Chapter 55: The Best Boss in the World

“What’s wrong?” Lian Xun put down the work documents in his hand and asked with concern.

“My mom needs money for surgery, and my salary isn’t enough,” Ling Yu’s voice trembled slightly.

He was the only child in a rural family. His family had almost emptied their savings to support him through college.

A week ago, his mother was walking home on the side of the road after finishing her work at night when a car suddenly rushed out from behind and knocked her to the ground.

By the time the villagers found her, the perpetrator had long disappeared, leaving only Ling Yu’s mother lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

There were no surveillance cameras in the village, and the perpetrator could not be found. Even calling the police was useless.

Ling Yu’s father didn’t want to disturb his work, but now he had borrowed from everyone he knew, and the surgery fee was still not enough, so he had no choice but to tell him the truth.

Ling Yu felt extremely guilty upon receiving the news.

He studied hard and worked hard to give his family a better life, but his mother had such an accident, and he only found out after so long…

As he spoke, Ling Yu’s tears fell like raindrops.

Lian Xun quickly pulled out a few tissues from the box on the table and handed them to him.

Ling Yu took the tissues, blew his nose hard, and sobbed softly.

“I can approve your application for advance salary, but the finance department can only release the funds on Monday,” Lian Xun frowned slightly, a hint of pity in his eyes.

Ling Yu’s situation was indeed sympathetic.

“What should I do then? I can’t wait that long at all,” Ling Yu’s newly ignited hope turned into despair again.

He couldn’t delay any longer; he had to raise the surgery fee before tomorrow.

“How about this?” Lian Xun took out his phone and transferred 80,000 yuan to Ling Yu. “I’ll lend it to you first, and you can pay me back when you have extra money after you get paid. The extra amount will be my little help to you.”

“Wuwu, boss, thank you,” Ling Yu said tearfully.

At this moment, he was determined to follow Lian Xun for the rest of his life.

If Lian Xun didn’t fire him, that is.

“Don’t cry. No need to thank me, you’re my assistant, I certainly won’t sit idly by,” Lian Xun comforted him.

Ling Yu sniffed, “Boss, I have another request.”

“Taking leave, right?” Lian Xun guessed in a second, “How many days do you need?”

“Three, three days is enough,” Ling Yu hesitated and held out three fingers.

“Okay, I’ll give you five days off,” Lian Xun said.

Ling Yu’s tears streamed down again, “Boss…you’re really the best boss in the world.”

At this moment, Lian Xun was radiating a sacred golden light in Ling Yu’s eyes.

At noon, Lian Xun had lunch with Qi Luzhi in his office and told him about this matter.

Qi Luzhi pondered for a moment and asked Lian Xun, “Do you want to tell Li Yang?”

Lian Xun shook his head and refused.

Ling Yu didn’t want Li Yang to know, and he had to respect his wishes.

“Alright then,” Qi Luzhi no longer dwelt on it.

The matter between Li Yang and Ling Yu should be resolved by themselves.

Lian Xun had only eaten half a bowl of rice when he put down his chopsticks. Seeing this, Qi Luzhi picked up a few pieces of beef and put them in Lian Xun’s bowl, and advised, “Eat some more, you’ve been working too hard recently, you need to keep up with your nutrition.”

After watching Lian Xun finish eating, Qi Luzhi added some other dishes to his bowl.

“The preparation work for the internal testing is almost complete. Promise me, don’t force yourself to work such long hours anymore, okay?”

Qi Luzhi’s gaze fell on the dark circles under Lian Xun’s eyes, and he felt distressed.

Lian Xun lowered his eyes and said perfunctorily, “Aiya, I know, don’t keep staring at me, hurry up and eat.”

It wasn’t that he wanted to work hard, but this project was too important to him. It could only succeed, not fail.

This was his bargaining chip to return to the Lian family.

On Monday, Li Yang first wandered around the entrance of Lian Xun’s office early in the morning, but didn’t see Ling Yu. He asked Lian Xun where his little assistant had gone. Lian Xun made up a lie, saying that he had asked for leave to go back to his hometown for a few days.

“I see,” Li Yang said with a face full of regret, it seemed he wouldn’t see Ling Yu for a week.

April was supposed to be a season of gentle spring, but in the afternoon, it suddenly started pouring rain without warning. On the streets, rainwater quickly accumulated, flowing rapidly. In just two or three hours, it had reached half the height of the tires.

In order to avoid the heavy rain affecting travel later, Sheng Shao Group notified all employees to leave work early and go home.

Lian Xun was still working overtime, with only one lamp on in the huge office.

“What did you promise me at noon, have you forgotten?” Qi Luzhi appeared at the door at some point, his slender figure casting a long shadow on the ground.

“It’ll be done soon, give me five minutes, no, ten minutes,” Lian Xun sped up his hand and typed on the keyboard.

Li Yang walked over and nudged Qi Luzhi with his elbow, “The internal testing is coming up in two days, it’s normal for him to be anxious, why don’t you say something to enlighten him?”

Qi Luzhi glanced at him and asked, “Why haven’t you left yet?”

“Well, I have something to ask your Lian Xun, please let me in.”

Qi Luzhi moved two steps to the side, and Li Yang walked straight to Lian Xun’s desk, smiling ingratiatingly.

“What do you want?” Lian Xun looked wary.

“I just wanted to ask, is it convenient for you to tell me where Ling Yu’s hometown is?”

Lian Xun: “It’s not convenient, go ask him yourself.”

“If he told me, I wouldn’t have come to ask you,” Li Yang said helplessly.

Lian Xun’s attitude was firm: “Then it’s still not convenient.”

He was a very principled boss, resolutely safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of his employees.

After a lot of coaxing, Li Yang couldn’t get a single word out of him, but instead annoyed Qi Luzhi, who told him to get lost and not delay Lian Xun from getting off work.

“Never mind if you don’t tell me, I’ll check it myself,” Li Yang didn’t want to stay and eat dog food anymore, so he left the office first.

The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and occasionally lightning flashed across the night sky, followed by deafening thunder, as if the sky was roaring.

Li Yang was driving home, and was about to enter the garage when he inadvertently saw a familiar figure standing under the dim street lamp through the rearview mirror.

He slammed on the brakes, opened the car window, and took a closer look.

That figure was clearly Ling Yu.

The umbrella covered half of his face, and most of his clothes were wet, as if he had been waiting here for a long time.

Li Yang was puzzled, didn’t he ask for leave to go back to his hometown? Why would he appear here? But he immediately got out of the car, held up an umbrella, and ran towards Ling Yu.

    “Ling Yu,” he called out.

The figure of the young man under the street lamp paused, took half a step back, and then stopped in place.

Ling Yu slowly raised the umbrella a little, revealing his pale face, and looked at Li Yang, who was walking through the rain and mist, approaching him step by step. In those eyes, a firm and resolute light shone, and there seemed to be a trace of sadness hidden in the depths of his eyes.

Li Yang stood in front of Ling Yu, with a happy smile on his face, “Ling Yu, what are you doing here? It’s raining so heavily, why don’t you go to my house first, my house is upstairs.”
