Chapter 48: Do you blame me?

“Qi Luzhi, what is going on with this recording? I clearly never said these things, but that is my voice. Why? What exactly happened after I left back then?”

Lian Xun’s mind crashed, unable to think. He could only bombard Qi Luzhi with question after question.

Instinct told him that there seemed to be a huge misunderstanding between them.

Qi Luzhi’s lips parted slightly, but in the end, he simply said dismissively, “It’s nothing. It’s all in the past.”

The nightmare that he once couldn’t escape from had now vanished.

As long as Lian Xun was still by his side, he wouldn’t care about anything else.

“Tell me! What exactly happened?” Lian Xun became anxious. “I don’t want any misunderstandings or barriers between us.”

Qi Luzhi sighed softly and gently wiped away the tears from the corners of Lian Xun’s eyes.

    ——

    Seven years ago.

Qi Luzhi and Lian Xun had just gotten together.

While he was still immersed in the sweetness of love, Lian Xun suddenly stopped coming to school.

Qi Luzhi was worried that something had happened to Lian Xun. He called him, but no one answered.

Then he received a text message saying that they should break up, that everything before had just been a game, and he shouldn’t take it seriously.

Qi Luzhi was panicked and confused. He frantically called Lian Xun, but still, no one answered.

Just when Qi Luzhi had resigned himself to his fate and was about to accept the fact that he had been played by his first love, Lian Xun reappeared in front of him, calling him “Qi-gege” in a flattering manner, as if nothing had happened.

    Qi Luzhi’s heart softened.

More importantly, he loved Lian Xun, loved him to the core. So he convinced himself that the text message was just a joke.

But the good times didn’t last long. Lian Xun only appeared briefly for a day before disappearing again without a trace.

This time, it was a complete disappearance.

Qi Luzhi went to the Lian Family Manor/Estate countless times, but it was already empty, not even a strand of hair was left behind.

He waited and waited, hoping for a miracle to happen, but what he got was a phone call that plunged him into Hell.

“Qi Luzhi, you are nothing but the most humble and lowly orphan in this world, the kind that no one would care about even if you died. You don’t actually think I really liked you, do you? Don’t dream, you and I are worlds apart in terms of money and status. You only deserve to be my dog, to be summoned when I call and dismissed when I’m done. But I’m tired of playing now. I hope you won’t bother me again in the future. Goodbye!”

No matter how deep the love, at that moment, it gave rise to a hatred a thousand times greater.

The most innocent and ardent love of a young man was ruthlessly trampled upon, turning into a deep-seated pain that was imprinted in his heart and could not be dispelled for the rest of his life.

From then on, Qi Luzhi vowed that one day, he would stand in a higher place and trample all those who had trampled on him and humiliated him under his feet.

    Love can inspire infinite potential.

    So can hatred.

Whenever Qi Luzhi couldn’t hold on, he would take out this recording and listen to it over and over again, reminding himself of how foolishly he had been deceived.

As time passed, he gradually began to lose sight of whether his persistence stemmed from love or hate for Lian Xun.

Until that night, when he and Lian Xun reunited…

After listening to all this, Lian Xun was already in tears. He hadn’t expected that after the two of them separated back then, the suffering Qi Luzhi endured was no less than his own.

“No, it’s not like that. I never wanted to break up with you. The text message, the phone call, none of that was me.”

Lian Xun choked as he explained, “After my dad found out that I was with you, he was strongly against it, saying that I was ruining the family’s reputation. He locked me up at home for a few days, and only after my mom pleaded with him did he let me go back to school. My phone was confiscated. I didn’t know he sent you that kind of text message.”

“Later… later…” Lian Xun took a breath and continued, “That day, I suddenly received news that my mom had died in an accidental fire.”

“Before I could even tell you, I was taken abroad. I insisted on returning to China, so my dad threw me into the wine cellar and locked me up. The injuries on my body were from that time.”

A hint of indescribable heartache flashed in Qi Luzhi’s eyes, and he reached out to hug Lian Xun tightly.

“When I got out, I contacted you as soon as possible, but… but all of your contact information had been changed.” Lian Xun continued, his voice filled with endless grievance. “I thought you were angry that I left without saying goodbye and didn’t want me anymore.”

He couldn’t understand why his father would forge that false phone call with his voice.

Perhaps Qi Luzhi’s persistent phone calls had annoyed Lian Yishan.

Or perhaps, it was to punish his rebellion and mischief, deliberately destroying the thing he cherished most.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” Qi Luzhi’s heart was already surging with towering waves, wanting to break through his chest.

The truth was actually like this!

He had almost single-handedly buried their future. If he could have waited just one more month back then, they wouldn’t have had seven years of regret.

Qi Luzhi held Lian Xun tightly, with countless words in his heart that he wanted to say, but he didn’t know where to start. In the end, they only turned into three words, “I’m sorry.”

Lian Xun’s ribs were hurting a bit from Qi Luzhi’s tight embrace, but he still couldn’t bear to push him away. “Why are you apologizing? It’s not your fault. You must have been very sad when you heard ‘me’ say those things. I should be the one apologizing.”

“Lian Xun, thank you for not giving up on me.”

Qi Luzhi was filled with emotions. It turned out that Lian Xun had loved him from beginning to end.

How could he be so stupid, almost being deceived for a lifetime by a strange phone call?

Qi Luzhi slowly released Lian Xun, looked into his eyes, and said with guilt, “Do… do you blame me?”

    “What?”

“You went through so much trouble to come back to me, and I still treated you like that…”

Qi Luzhi now regretted it so much that he wanted to slap himself a few times.

After their reunion, he really hadn’t been good to Lian Xun, not good at all.

“Now you know how excessive you were, right?” Lian Xun’s tone was full of complaint.

    Qi Luzhi’s heart sank sharply.

He deserved to die. If Lian Xun really blamed him, then he would use his entire life to atone for it.

Seeing Qi Luzhi’s face full of self-reproach, Lian Xun couldn’t bear to tease him any longer. “How could I blame you? I’m too happy to be with you again.”

Qi Luzhi’s dim eyes suddenly lit up. “Really?”

    Lian Xun smiled and nodded.

All the unwillingness, regrets, and misunderstandings could be put down at this moment. What remained was only a heart that was closer to each other.

“Lian Xun, I love you. Actually, from the day you appeared in the parking garage, I knew that I was already beyond saving.” Qi Luzhi affectionately stroked Lian Xun’s cheek.

Lian Xun’s tears, which had just stopped, flowed again. “You’re such a big idiot, so easily deceived.”

“Okay, I’m an idiot.” Qi Luzhi smiled bitterly. “I’ll only be deceived by you.”
