Chapter 22: Love-Struck Brains Are Hopeless
Li Yang: “…”
Wei Xueming: “…”
A brief silence filled the private room.
“Are you serious?” Li Yang asked. “Aren’t you afraid he’ll dump you again?”
Although he had long expected this day to come, he couldn’t help but worry for his brother when it actually arrived.
“Won’t happen!”
“I won’t give him the chance.” Qi Luzhi’s tone was firm.
Since heaven had sent Lian Xun back to him once more, he would tie him down and keep him by his side, even if he had to use force.
“Sigh, hopeless love-struck brain!” Wei Xueming sighed with a look of pity. “I really don’t understand you guys who are into pure love. Why hang yourselves from the same tree?”
Li Yang nudged Wei Xueming with his elbow, telling him to shut up.
“Since you’ve already decided, then follow your heart. If that kid dares to let you down again this time, your brother will teach him a lesson for you,” Li Yang said righteously.
Qi Luzhi cast a sidelong glance at him. “Dare to touch him and see what happens.”
Li Yang was speechless.
“You’re already protecting him?”
He’d go to hell and back for his brother, and his brother would stab him in the back twice.
Where was the justice?
However, to prevent the little boat of his friendship with Qi Luzhi from capsizing, Li Yang softened his tone. “I was just saying. You two will definitely have a love stronger than gold, a hundred years of happiness together.”
“A hundred years of happiness together,” a tipsy Wei Xueming echoed, raising his glass in agreement.
After a few rounds of drinks, Qi Luzhi excused himself, saying he had to work the next day, and got up to leave.
In reality, he was concerned about Lian Xun at home.
It was already so late; Lian Xun should have finished what he needed to do, right?
At the thought of Lian Xun sitting alone and forlorn on the swing in the yard waiting for him, Qi Luzhi wished he could grow wings and fly back immediately.
As soon as Qi Luzhi said he was leaving, Li Yang took the opportunity to slip away as well, effectively ending the gathering.
Wei Xueming was very unhappy, pointing at the two of them and complaining, “You guys are too unkind! You’re leaving me alone again.”
“Especially you, Qi Luzhi! We agreed on a thank-you dinner! You’re leaving after only a few drinks, so disappointing!”
Qi Luzhi put on his windbreaker and said lightly, “That bottle of Tequila I have, I’ll give it to you.”
Wei Xueming was stunned for a couple of seconds, then asked blankly, “Really?”
Wei Xueming had been coveting that bottle of liquor for a long time; it was said to be worth over two hundred thousand US dollars. He’d asked Qi Luzhi for it several times, but the other man had been unwilling to part with it.
Why was he being so generous today?
Wei Xueming blinked, still unable to believe it.
“Never mind if you don’t want it,” Qi Luzhi said, opening the door as if to leave.
“Want it, want it! I’ll come to your house to get it tomorrow, don’t you dare go back on your word,” Wei Xueming hurriedly shouted at Qi Luzhi, who had already walked away.
The first floor of Phantom Bar had a completely different atmosphere from the private rooms. The mixed air was filled with the smell of smoke and alcohol, and the deafening music was turned up to the maximum. Well-dressed men and women twisted wildly on the dance floor under the flashing neon lights.
As Qi Luzhi and Li Yang were walking through the hall, Li Yang suddenly grabbed Qi Luzhi’s arm and raised his chin, pointing to a booth in the corner.
Qi Luzhi followed Li Yang’s gaze, and his face instantly turned ashen.
The young man who was talking head-to-head with a Black-Clothed Man in the distance, who else could it be but Lian Xun?
A dangerous cold light shot out from Qi Luzhi’s eyes, and his clenched fist trembled slightly.
Why was Lian Xun here? Could this be the important matter he spoke of?
Wasn’t he enough? Why was he still hooking up with others outside? He really wasn’t going to change!
He had been thinking of giving them another chance to start over.
Now it seemed he was a complete joke.
Li Yang, who was next to him, patted Qi Luzhi’s shoulder with a look of sympathy, wanting to comfort him, but felt that any words would seem pale.
Alas, his brother was truly too pitiful.
After a long while, Qi Luzhi withdrew his gaze and silently turned to leave.
On the drive home, Qi Luzhi’s face remained gloomy. The various intimate actions Lian Xun had taken towards him in the past were still vivid in his mind.
He called him Brother Qi, said he liked him, and personally prepared a yard full of snowdrops for him…
But now he was flirting with another man.
What exactly was this supposed to be?
The more Qi Luzhi thought about it, the angrier he became, not only at Lian Xun but also at himself, for still harboring a shred of unrealistic fantasy even now.
At another intersection, Qi Luzhi gritted his teeth, abruptly made a U-turn, and drove back.
Returning to Phantom again, Qi Luzhi parked his car on the nearby roadside, in a position where he could see the entrance of the bar, waiting for Lian Xun to come out.
Time passed by, minute by minute, and the unease in his heart grew stronger and stronger. He wanted Lian Xun to come out quickly, but he also didn’t want him to come out so quickly.
Finally, a familiar figure appeared at the entrance of the bar.
Qi Luzhi flashed his headlights twice, successfully attracting Lian Xun’s attention.
After seeing the license plate clearly, a trace of panic flashed across the other man’s face. Then, he put on a familiar smile and ran over.
“What a coincidence, what are you doing here?” Lian Xun skillfully sat in the passenger seat and asked Qi Luzhi with a smile.
Qi Luzhi was expressionless, but the hand gripping the steering wheel was so tight that his fingertips had turned white.
“Yes, what a coincidence. What are you doing here?”
“I… I’m handling some personal matters,” Lian Xun said evasively.
“What matters?” Qi Luzhi continued to press.
At this moment, his heart was in his throat. He had already decided that if Lian Xun was really doing what he thought he was, then that would be the end of them.
From now on, they would no longer have anything to do with each other.
“Actually, there’s something I’ve been hiding from you,” Lian Xun glanced at Qi Luzhi and said nervously.
For some reason, Qi Luzhi’s gaze was so scary today.
It was as if he was going to eat him alive in the next second.
“Speak,” Qi Luzhi said in an icy tone.
After pondering for a moment, Lian Xun slowly opened his mouth. “That day, Jingqian Brother contacted me and said that the fire that caused my mother’s death wasn’t an accident. So, I’ve been looking for someone to investigate this matter these days.”
“Today, the person helping with the investigation said they had news and asked me to meet at Phantom, but there was really no useful information at all.”
After Lian Xun finished speaking, he lowered his eyes, feeling a little disappointed.
The atmosphere in the car was a bit heavy.
Suddenly, he was pulled into a fierce embrace by a pair of strong arms.
“Hey, Qi Luzhi, what are you doing?”
Lian Xun was completely stunned by the sudden hug.
He struggled a few times, but to no avail. The two of them were separated by the armrest, and his body was twisted into a strange position, making him very uncomfortable.
“Let go of me, my back hurts,” Lian Xun pushed against Qi Luzhi’s chest.
Qi Luzhi was unmoved, and his arms tightened even more, as if he wanted to knead the person in his arms into his bones and blood.
“Lian Xun, swear to me that no matter what happens in the future, you can’t lie to me,” Qi Luzhi whispered in his ear, his voice carrying a trembling plea.
At this moment, his heart was still filled with lingering fear. Fortunately, he had turned back. Fortunately, he had asked Lian Xun.
Otherwise, they would have missed each other once again because of a misunderstanding.
“Yeah, I won’t lie to you,” Lian Xun patted Qi Luzhi’s back and replied softly.
He thought that Qi Luzhi was showing sympathy for him after hearing about his experience.
After a long time, Qi Luzhi finally let go of him and stared into his eyes, asking, “Do you still want to be with me?”
A look of surprised joy appeared on Lian Xun’s face. “You… you’re going to agree?”
