    Chapter 7: Dark Night’s Fall

The bedside lamp emitted a soft, warm yellow light, casting an ambiguous and tender glow on the figures in the bed.

Lian Xun lay on Qi Luzhi’s chest, his arms wrapped around his waist, looking every bit like a loving couple.

“Qi Luzhi, I’ve already slept with you, can you be a little less angry with me?”

“What do I have to do for you to stop hating me?”

“I really like you, Qi Luzhi!”

Qi Luzhi leaned against the headboard, his gaze fixed on Lian Xun’s moist lips as they opened and closed, completely oblivious to what he was saying.

Damn, it’s really making me thirsty!

If this continues, Lian Xun won’t be able to get out of bed tomorrow.

Qi Luzhi raised his foot and kicked the person aside, “Get out and go sleep in the guestroom!”

Lian Xun almost got kicked off the bed. He sat up, looking aggrieved.

“Get out!” Qi Luzhi said with a dark face, grabbing the pajamas and throwing them at Lian Xun.

Heh, it really is just a bed-warming relationship; he disowns me after using me.

Lian Xun lowered his eyes, suppressing the gloom in his heart, turned around, and got out of bed.

After Lian Xun left, Qi Luzhi gradually calmed down, realizing how absurd his behavior had been, and felt annoyed and frustrated.

When facing Lian Xun, he always uncontrollably acted irrationally, which was not a good thing.

The night was already deep, and the temperature in the second half of the night was the lowest of the day. Even through the blanket, he could feel a faint chill. Qi Luzhi lay there for a long time, his thoughts in a jumbled mess.

He remembered when they were in University, Lian Xun came to his small apartment for the first time. The small twenty- or thirty-square-meter apartment was truly an eye-opening experience for Lian Xun, a young master born in a mansion.

People could actually live in such a small space!

However, Lian Xun was only slightly shocked and didn’t laugh at him. He even joked that he would buy a big villa for him to live in later.

The two of them imagined a beautiful and happy future in the cozy little apartment, and even thought of names for the dogs they would keep.

Now, the big villa was there, but he and Lian Xun were no longer the same.

Qi Luzhi turned over and switched on the bedside lamp.

He hadn’t been able to fall asleep since Lian Xun left.

He wondered if Lian Xun had fallen asleep. The guestroom was uninhabited all year round, cold and desolate, and he wondered if Lian Xun could get used to it.

Qi Luzhi struggled inwardly for a long time, but still got up, intending to go see Lian Xun.

The guestroom was right next to the master bedroom, just a few steps away. In the dimly lit corridor, sconces cast mottled shadows on the walls.

Qi Luzhi tiptoed to the door of the guestroom. Just as he touched the doorknob, the door shook slightly; it wasn’t closed.

Qi Luzhi pushed the door open, walked to the bed. The person on the bed was tightly wrapped in a not-so-thick blanket, curled into a ball, with only his messy hair visible.

“Idiot, you know it’s cold, so why not add another blanket?”

Qi Luzhi said with a cold face. Suddenly, he noticed that the body under the blanket seemed to be trembling slightly.

He frowned, stepped forward, intending to lift the blanket to check. The moment his fingertip touched Lian Xun, the other person trembled violently as a conditioned reflex, then desperately waved his hands as if driving away something terrifying.

    “Go, go away… don’t hit me… please…”

Lian Xun closed his eyes tightly, the blanket on his body knocked aside by his flailing hands. Qi Luzhi struggled to grab his wrist and pulled him forcefully into his arms.

“Don’t be afraid, no one is going to hit you, I’m here, don’t be afraid.” Qi Luzhi sat on the edge of the bed, holding Lian Xun in one arm and gently stroking his back to comfort him.

A few minutes later, Lian Xun finally calmed down, but his forehead was covered in a thin layer of sweat, as if he was having a very restless sleep.

Qi Luzhi slowly laid Lian Xun back on the bed, his gaze falling on his back. Several gray, raised scars snaked across his fair skin, grotesque and frightening, seeming very out of place.

Qi Luzhi’s already furrowed brows tightened even more, his eyes filled with not only heartache but also unfathomable anger.

To leave behind such scars, Lian Xun must have suffered very serious injuries.

But he couldn’t understand. Lian Xun was a young master from a prominent Wealthy Family, growing up spoiled and doted upon. How could he have suffered such serious injuries?

In the years they were separated, what exactly had happened to Lian Xun?

At this moment, Qi Luzhi seemed to have forgotten that Lian Xun was a Scumbag ex-boyfriend who dumped him twice and made him hate him to the core. Now, he only wanted to drag out the person who hurt Lian Xun and cut him into a thousand pieces.

    “Cold!” Lian Xun murmured softly.

Qi Luzhi snapped back to his senses and simply climbed into bed and pulled Lian Xun into his arms. The person in his arms subconsciously moved closer to the source of warmth and reached out to hold Qi Luzhi tightly.

The two shared the same bed again. Qi Luzhi didn’t want to think about how things had developed this way. At this moment, all his actions were simply following his heart.

He was like an animal traveling in the dark, hiding himself tightly during the day. Only in the late night when no one was watching did he dare to sneak out and expose his true self under the moonlight, and when the first ray of sunlight rose on the horizon, he would put on his disguise again.

He despised his behavior, yet was infinitely fascinated by the warmth of this moment, so he had to repeatedly find excuses for himself.

This was the last night. After tonight, he and Lian Xun would return to their proper relationship, ordinary business partners.

He, Qi Luzhi, would never be fooled by love again!

The sun was high in the sky, and the empty Villa was unusually quiet.

Lian Xun was woken up by the ringing of his cell phone. He impatiently reached for the phone on the bedside table and pressed the answer button.

“Hello, who is it? You better have something important. Don’t you know it’s rude to wake someone up early in the morning?”

“Bo, Boss, it’s already after ten o’clock, and you haven’t come to work yet. Is everything alright?”

    It was Ling Yu.

Lian Xun’s mind instantly cleared. He brought the phone to his eyes and looked at it. Yikes, it was already 10:40. No wonder Ling Yu called to urge him.

“Um, I have some urgent matters, so I won’t be coming to the company this morning. Get ready, and go to Sheng Shao to sign the Contract this afternoon.”

Lian Xun hastily finished his instructions and hung up the phone, threw on his clothes, and went out to look for Qi Luzhi.

He searched the entire Villa, upstairs and downstairs, but still couldn’t find Qi Luzhi. Only a slightly cold breakfast was left on the dining table.

It seemed that Qi Luzhi had left a while ago. Lian Xun couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.

He was left alone at home again. Did he really not want to see him that much?

Absentmindedly chewing on the Sandwich in his hand, Lian Xun was thinking that he seemed to have had a dream last night, a particularly realistic dream.

Qi Luzhi gently held him in his arms, and he could clearly recall the warm touch of that embrace, which was reassuring and captivating.

He hadn’t slept so soundly in a long time, actually sleeping until almost noon.

“Alas, if only this dream were real.”

Lian Xun sighed, finished the remaining Sandwich in two or three bites, changed his clothes, and prepared to go to the company.

Before leaving, he wanted to say hello to Qi Luzhi, but when he opened his phone, he suddenly realized that they had met several times, but never exchanged contact information.
