Chapter 40: Chapter 40 [Death] Descended Upon Them Here…
Qi Xiao spoke slowly, each word cold and hard.
“The future is death.”
“No one can change it.”
Xiang Li nodded.
“So, you abandoned Ning Le and came to find your so-called survival?”
Qi Xiao was still repeating herself, but her eyes were firm.
“The future is death. Mountain fire forests, stone flow houses, deep-sea inland.”
“We are powerless.”
Xiang Li was not one for wasting words. Seeing Qi Xiao like this, he knew there would be no results today. He took a deep breath, and the black Spiritual Power rod in his hand pointed directly at Qi Xiao.
“Where is Ning Li An!”
Qi Xiao seemed to finally snap back to reality after being shouted at. A coldness flashed in her eyes.
She hadn’t moved an inch since earlier. Even with Xiang Li pointing his Spiritual Power at her, she didn’t budge.
Qi Xiao: “Normally, I can’t beat you. But you dare to come alone while weakened and seriously injured? Hmph.”
She commented, “Reckless fool.”
She didn’t even need to act. The people who had been focused on the experiment suddenly turned their heads, rotating their heads 180 degrees, eerily.
“Ning Li An’s methods,” Xiang Li scoffed.
He described it as, “A despicable method that can only be hidden behind others’ backs.”
On the other side, Bai Yan hadn’t shown much emotional fluctuation after his initial anger, even watching Xiang Li fight two opponents with great interest.
Shen Gui: “Aren’t you worried?”
Bai Yan didn’t care. “Anyway, he won’t die. It’ll just hurt a bit.”
Although Bai Yan said that, the fingers he had resting on the back of the sofa slowly clenched.
On the screen, Xiang Li was dodging Professor Leinstitor’s attacks. Bai Yan also noticed that Xiang Li’s speed was much slower than before.
Several fists brushed past the camera lens. Bai Yan couldn’t help but want to stand up, but Shen Gui pushed him back down.
Shen Gui: “Don’t move.”
Bai Yan frowned, twisting his shoulders twice to get the other’s hand off. Even though he was currently in a cooperative relationship with Shen Gui, his eyes still showed undisguised disgust.
“Are your hands clean?”
Shen Gui was amused by his remark and wasn’t interested in arguing with him. The two focused on the person on the screen.
Xiang Li’s chest rose and fell slightly. Each breath seemed to be getting heavier. The weapon in his hand changed, but he was mostly just defending.
Qi Xiao retreated after a while. Her eyes sharpened, and she scoffed.
“You’re already this serious, huh?”
Perhaps at her instruction, Professor Leinstitor’s attacking movements also stopped.
His body was now twice as large, with a tiny head sitting on a huge body. He had lost his self-awareness and was completely controlled by others.
Xiang Li didn’t answer Qi Xiao because he couldn’t hear what she was saying. He could only see her lips moving.
Qi Xiao raised her hand, seemingly wanting to finish Xiang Li off. But the moment she raised it, her eyes suddenly widened, and all the blood drained from her face, leaving it deathly pale.
She clutched her heart with one hand. Professor Leinstitor also seemed like a puppet whose strings had been cut, his entire body collapsing.
Sweat beaded on Qi Xiao’s forehead. Her teeth bit her lower lip, and she could even smell a faint metallic scent of blood in her nostrils.
Shen Gui frowned, not knowing what was wrong with Qi Xiao. He glanced at the person next to him, who was also clutching his chest, almost sliding off the sofa.
Shen Gui: “! Bai Yan.”
Bai Yan felt as if someone had suddenly dug out half of his heart. It was painful and suffocating. There was an empty space in his throat, and the fresh air passing through felt like the sharp end of a dagger slowly scraping his trachea.
Several people clearly recognized that—
—[Death] had arrived.
Bai Yan was annoyed by Shen Gui’s worried voice in his ear, even in his current state, he didn’t forget to show his distaste.
“Dirty hands, don’t touch me.”
Shen Gui was amused, but he still reached out and grabbed Bai Yan’s arm. He looked up. The monitor was focused on Xiang Li’s chest, so they couldn’t see Xiang Li’s expression.
Xiang Li didn’t show any signs of pain, only his chest rising and falling slightly with his breath. Qi Xiao was kneeling on the ground because of the pain.
Xiang Li didn’t move an inch. Professor Leinstitor’s gaze seemed to have shifted to him, his eyes unblinking.
Xiang Li lowered his eyes and reached out, his fingers trembling, to touch a huge glass instrument next to him.
Perhaps it was too big. He couldn’t move it no matter how hard he tried. When the glass instrument was smashed on the ground, Xiang Li stared at the shards of glass all over the floor, his eyes widening slightly, as if confirming something.
…He couldn’t hear.
A few pieces of glass splashed in front of Qi Xiao. She couldn’t help but grab a sharp shard and stab it into her heart, forcefully tearing open the flesh around it.
Revealing the beating, scarlet heart inside.
Qi Xiao exhaled heavily. Beads of sweat on her forehead were so heavy that they slid over her eyebrows and onto her eyelashes. She also noticed Xiang Li’s abnormality and cursed softly.
“Damn it.”
Why now of all times?
Qi Xiao reached out, using her hand to support herself on a nearby table and chair to stand up, her steps unsteady. She met Xiang Li’s gaze.
Qi Xiao still managed to force a smile at this point. She stared at Xiang Li, her eyes still filled with triumph.
She reached out, her fair fingers pinching the scarlet heart. Red and white intertwined. She exerted force on her hand, and the heart’s beating visibly weakened, but the owner of the hand revealed a hint of relief on her face.
She nonsensically dropped the sentence, “We have already found [Life].”
The scenery in Xiang Li’s eyes changed, but no sound entered his ears.
Professor Leinstitor’s joints moved. The gigantic body rushed over, picked up Qi Xiao, and charged out of the house.
The room returned to silence. At Chu Qi’s house, Bai Yan was trembling all over, gritting his teeth and groaning softly. In his blurred consciousness, he looked at the screen, which only showed the tragic state of the basement. Xiang Li was not visible.
Bai Yan’s attention wasn’t on himself. His originally pitch-black figure now only had a thin layer of gray left. He could vaguely see the sofa behind him through him, the colors flickering constantly.
Shen Gui: “Bai Yan, Bai Yan!”
“What’s wrong? Bai Yan, say something! Don’t fall asleep!”
“I’ll take you to the doctor.”
Bai Yan closed his eyes.
Too noisy. If Xue Hu Su were here, he would blow him up.
Bai Yan reached out a hand and pressed down on Shen Gui’s arm, which was trying to lift him up. He shook his head, and his lips moved. Shen Gui leaned down, wanting to hear what he had to say.
Bai Yan said disdainfully, “Hands.”
After he said that, his breathing became heavy again. After a few slow breaths, he spoke dryly.
“I’ll be fine after I’m [Dead].”
He thought in his mind, making a fuss over nothing.
