Chapter 1: He’s Back

    Chapter 1: He’s Back

[Dear readers, have you read the introduction? I hope everyone can read Lin Xi’s rebirth in one go, thank you!]

    Nanxi Village.

There is a Nanxi River at the entrance of the village, and a highway crosses the river.

It snowed a few days ago, and the ice on the river hasn’t completely melted. The wind is chilling to the bone.

Lin Xi stood by the river as if he couldn’t feel the cold, looking at the highway entering the village, his eyes yearning.

He was waiting for someone, someone he had hidden in his heart and never dared to confess to.

The other person was named Mu Chuang, three years older than him. He was tall and had a “rogue-handsome” look. He left the village two years ago and has been thriving outside.

With his own abilities, he became a department head in a certain company. The position wasn’t too big or too small, and the salary was pretty good, which Lin Xi envied to death.

Ever since Mu Chuang left the village, Lin Xi had been absent-minded, afraid that one day he would suddenly bring back a girlfriend.

He was nervous every day, which ultimately led to his failure in the college entrance exam.

But he felt relieved instead. Not only did he reduce the burden on his not-so-wealthy family, but he could finally go out and follow Mu Chuang.

Finally, at the end of the year, he sent a message to Mu Chuang, saying that he wanted to go with him next year.

Mu Chuang readily agreed and told him that he would return to the village tomorrow, asking him to wait somewhere.

With a heart pounding with nervous excitement, Lin Xi went to the designated location early, which was the Nanxi Riverbank where he was now standing, staring unblinkingly at the passersby in front of him.

“Beep—” The harsh horn almost scared him out of his wits. He moved away a few steps as if fleeing, only to find that the luxury car parked in front of him was occupied by the person he was waiting for.

“Chuang-ge?” He looked at the man in the car, dressed in leather clothes and leather pants, his hair permed shiny, with a cigarette in his mouth, with a hint of hooliganism, but also handsome as hell, and couldn’t quite believe his eyes.

He remembered that this guy bought a ticket to come back last year. How could he suddenly be so impressive this year?

He subconsciously glanced at the front passenger seat and the back seat, and only felt slightly relieved after discovering that there was no one else.

“You came back alone?” To reassure himself, Lin Xi specifically asked another question.

Mu Chuang finished the last puff of his cigarette and casually threw the butt into the roadside bushes. “Lin Xi, why are you asking as if you care so much about Chuang-ge’s lifelong happiness?”

He smiled and looked at the fair-skinned and handsome young man in front of him, without any consideration. “You don’t have to worry about that. Someone like your Chuang-ge can have someone anytime I want. There are plenty of them, so many that I don’t know who to choose.”

“But Chuang-ge can tell you that all the girls chasing after me are very pretty. Chuang-ge is struggling to deal with them every day. Having too many women is not a good thing. When you go next year, I’ll introduce one to you?”

Knowing that a single sentence would reveal so much information, Lin Xi would rather not have asked. He felt blocked up, and his whole heart was cold.

The excitement on his face gradually faded away, and the whole person was like a deflated ball.

“What’s wrong?” Mu Chuang noticed his odd behavior and suddenly opened the car door, gesturing for him to get in. “Did Chuang-ge neglect you? Get in, come to my house, I’ll give you good food and fun.”

Lin Xi hesitated for a moment, looking at the man in front of him who was as always unchanged, and couldn’t refuse.

“Okay.” He responded and then slowly climbed into Mu Chuang’s car, sitting in his passenger seat.

“You know,” Mu Chuang closed the car door, smiled, and said with a hint of sarcasm, “Those women fight every day to sit in this passenger seat, and I’m too lazy to mediate.”

“But our Lin Xi is different. As long as you want to sit, Chuang-ge will ask them to let you.” The way he said this almost made Lin Xi misunderstand.

But he knew that Mu Chuang only treated him as a younger brother and had no other intentions at all.

Lin Xi smiled and said nothing.

Mu Chuang wasn’t one to dwell on details. Seeing that the other person smiled, he took it as a tacit agreement, stepped on the clutch, and drove towards his house.

Along the way, some villagers cast jealous glances, but Mu Chuang pretended not to see them.

The luxury car braked and stopped in his yard.

Mu Chuang’s parents happily came out to greet him. Their son’s success had brought them honor.

Lin Xi got out of the car first, followed by Mu Chuang.

Who knew that as soon as he set foot on the ground, a matchmaker came to the door. Aunt Zhang from the same village came over with a beaming smile.

“I was wondering who was driving the new car. I followed it and saw that it had driven into your yard. You’re really successful, kid.” The way she said this didn’t sound like jealousy, but more like genuine envy.

Mu Chuang, rarely, didn’t classify her with the others and politely greeted her, “Hello, Aunt Zhang. It’s been a year, and you’re still so energetic.”

“That’s right, that’s right.” Aunt Zhang laughed happily. What she said next surprised everyone, especially Lin Xi. He never expected that she would rush over with a smile to act as a matchmaker for Mu Chuang.

And the person she wanted to introduce was her own niece, which clearly meant that she saw Mu Chuang’s success and was eager to get close to him.

Lin Xi had seen her niece before. She was okay-looking. But the fact that she was mentioned in front of Mu Chuang made Lin Xi’s heart clench instantly.

Mu Chuang hadn’t expressed his position yet.

But his parents seemed very happy. In this era with more men than women, it was naturally a cause for celebration to have someone act as a matchmaker.

“Sister Zhang, you’re so kind. Come in and have something to eat.” Mu Chuang’s mother happily invited Aunt Zhang in and also invited Lin Xi.

Lin Xi thanked her, but couldn’t move his feet. He felt that what he was about to hear might be unbearable for him.

“What’s wrong?” Mu Chuang saw him standing still and asked, “Do you feel embarrassed?”

He had no idea what Lin Xi was thinking, and all his guesses and questions were ordinary ones.

“A little.” Lin Xi answered along with his words, then looked at his toes, not daring to look directly into Mu Chuang’s eyes. “Or… should I go back?”

Mu Chuang laughed, stretched out his long arm, and put it around his waist. “It’s not like it’s your first time at my house. We’ve been playing together since we were little. Why are you acting so awkward now? Didn’t you hear my mom invite you too?”

“Go in, don’t be embarrassed.” He hooked Lin Xi’s waist again, but didn’t know that this was fatal to Lin Xi—

    A fatal temptation.

Lin Xi couldn’t resist and had no choice but to go in with him, half willingly.

The meal had already been served, as if it had been specially prepared to welcome Mu Chuang.

There were already five sets of bowls and chopsticks on the table, clearly accounting for Lin Xi.

Mu Chuang pressed Lin Xi into a seat, and then he sat next to him.

Aunt Zhang then spoke endlessly to Mu Chuang’s parents about her niece’s situation. With her glowing praise, the girl was as outstanding as could be, as beautiful as could be, feeling like she and Mu Chuang were a match made in heaven.

Listening to this, Lin Xi felt that he had lost his appetite for all the delicacies on the table.
