ASSHKHME Chapter 78
by VolareChapter 78: Entanglement
Xu Qingyou glanced sideways, lowering his eyes to look at the paper cup in his hand, a myriad of emotions difficult to express.
He had always been rational, understanding the principle that the past cannot be Chase.
But recently, he often regretted that if he had discovered Chen Zhuo’s inclinations earlier, would today’s outcome have been different?
From the corridor next door, the sound of crying reached his ears.
Xu Qingyou sighed almost imperceptibly, raising his hand to gently pull Chen Zhuo’s collar upwards.
Chen Zhuo was momentarily puzzled, then his face flushed red, and he stammered, unable to speak.
Fortunately, Xu Qingyou didn’t ask anything, only inexplicably said, “Xiao Zhuo, I was too conceited, too confident in my own judgment.”
Chen Zhuo’s face was red, and he was completely bewildered, “Huh? What?”
Xu Qingyou shook his head with a wry smile, changing the subject, “Xiao Zhuo, are you happy now?”
Chen Zhuo fiddled with the paper cup, assuming that Xu Qingyou had discovered his relationship, and said frankly, “I’m quite happy. I have family, friendship, and…”
Chen Zhuo lowered his head, smiling shyly.
The surgery door opened with a sound, and the chief surgeon walked out, taking off his mask, “Mr. Xu, your father’s surgery was very successful. We are currently sewing up the incision. He will be out in a little while. I’ll go change my clothes first, and we can talk later.”
Xu Qingyou stood up and said, “Thank you, I appreciate your hard work, Director Qian.”
Director Qian waved his hand, “It’s my duty.”
Chen Zhuo stood next to Xu Qingyou, a sigh of relief in his heart. Looking at Director Qian’s back, he was filled with many emotions.
It is often said that everyone is equal in the face of illness and death, but how can that be true? Power and money can enjoy the fastest rescue channels.
Just like Director Qian today, ordinary people would have to find scalpers to buy his appointment, but one phone call from Xu Qingyou could get the hospital director to call him from home to perform surgery.
Xu Qingyou turned to look at Chen Zhuo, “What are you thinking about?”
Chen Zhuo said softly, “I’m hating the rich.”
Xu Qingyou was stunned for a moment, realizing the circuitous route of his thoughts, and smiled silently, “You.”
After waiting for another twenty minutes or so, Xu Keyuan, who had undergone surgery, was wheeled into a private room.
Xu Qingyou raised his hand and looked at his watch, “It’s getting late, Xiao Zhuo. I’ll have Secretary Liu book a room for you at a nearby hotel.”
Chen Zhuo waved his hand, politely declining, “No need. I’ll leave after Uncle Xu wakes up and there’s nothing else. I have, um, still have a drawing to finish, and it’s due tomorrow.”
Xu Qingyou pondered for a moment, “Okay, then I’ll have the driver take you back. It’s too late, I’m worried.”
Chen Zhuo waved his hand again, “Hey, I’m a grown man, you don’t have to worry. I, um…”
Xu Qingyou asked directly, “Is someone coming to pick you up?”
In Chen Zhuo’s mind, Xu Qingyou was a serious and rigid social elite.
He didn’t plan to come out to Xu Qingyou yet and didn’t know how to explain, when his phone rang.
The five words “Spoiled Little Wild Boar” flashed on the screen, clamoring for attention.
Chen Zhuo pointed to his phone, indicating that he had a call to answer, and hurriedly left the ward, avoiding Xu Qingyou’s question.
Xu Qingyou looked at the closed ward door, a rare hint of fatigue on his face, and said quietly, “Secretary Liu, has the caregiver been found?”
Secretary Liu, standing to the side, adjusted his glasses, “Mr. Xu, rest assured, the person has already been found and is on their way. Ten years of experience, very professional.”
Xu Qingyou nodded, “Good, thank you for your hard work.”
Secretary Liu: “You’re welcome, it’s my duty.”
Xu Keyuan, deeply sunken in the hospital bed, moved his right hand, frowning, his expression looking painful, and slowly opened his eyes.
Secretary Liu said in surprise, “Mr. Xu, Director Xu is awake! I’ll go get the doctor.”
He hurried out.
Xu Qingyou leaned down to look at his father, “Dad, how are you feeling?”
Xu Keyuan had not yet fully awakened from the anesthesia, his mind was muddled, and he couldn’t understand Xu Qingyou’s words.
The ward door was pushed open.
The doctors came in to examine his father, and after confirming that there were no problems, they informed him of some post-operative precautions and left.
Xu Qingyou said, “Thank you for your hard work.”
Chen Zhuo finished his call, pushed the door open and came in, softly said, “Brother, I just saw the doctor leave. Has Uncle woken up? How is he?”
Xu Qingyou was covering Xu Keyuan with a blanket, raising his eyes to look at him, “He’s awake. The doctor said the surgery was very successful, there’s no problem. I’ll be here with him today, Xiao Zhuo. It’s getting late, if you have something to do, go ahead.”
Chen Zhuo looked at Xu Keyuan, lying in the hospital bed, his eyes tightly closed, seeming to have been drained of his energy, “You’re here alone? Or, I also…”
Xu Qingyou shook his head, softly said, “There’s a caregiver. Don’t you have a draft to finish? Go back, tell me when you get home.”
Chen Zhuo immediately felt a little guilty. He lied; the draft had already been completed. Xie Yu was waiting at the hospital entrance.
Chen Zhuo held his phone, feeling that Xu Qingyou suddenly had some inexplicable sadness, “Brother, are you okay?”
Xu Qingyou picked up his coat and put it on, “I’m fine, maybe just too tired. Let’s go, I’ll take you downstairs.”
Chen Zhuo glanced at the sleeping Xu Keyuan, “No need, you stay with Uncle, I can go by myself.”
Xu Qingyou said, “Then I’ll take you to the elevator.”
Chen Zhuo didn’t refuse, and the two walked a short distance along the corridor, standing side by side waiting for the elevator.
Xu Qingyou suddenly said, “Xiao Zhuo, what if the person I like doesn’t like me?”
The corridor was cold, and Chen Zhuo pulled his collar tighter, scratching his head, “Then just change to someone else you like. You can’t be so stubborn.”
Xu Qingyou chuckled softly, “Crude but true.”
The elevator door opened, and Xu Qingyou put his scarf around Chen Zhuo’s neck, gently pushing his shoulder, “Go in.”
Chen Zhuo blocked the elevator door, hesitating, “Qingyou-ge, I used to think that the person I liked didn’t like me either, I can really understand you. Sigh, I don’t know how to comfort you, but anyway, don’t hang yourself from one tree, switch to another.”
Someone came to take the elevator, and Xu Qingyou took a step back, “Go back, take care on the way.”
Chen Zhuo waved his hand, “I’m leaving, call me if you need anything, bye-bye.”
The elevator door slowly closed, Xu Qingyou watched the numbers on the display screen descending, and sighed, “It’s not that easy to switch.”
After the display screen numbers reached “1,” Xu Qingyou slowly walked towards the ward, his tall back lonely.
The ward was quiet, Xu Keyuan was sleeping soundly under the effects of the pain pump.
Xu Qingyou sat next to him, softly said, “Dad, I don’t seem to be good at either family or love. What do you think I should do? I’m really… too stupid.”
