    Chapter 92: Apology

Song Huaixi’s earnest expression amused Zhao Fangye of the Ning district.

He reached out and wrapped his arms around his waist, pulling him completely into his embrace.

Zhao Fangye’s light-colored eyes held an unreadable expression, with a hint of obscurity.

“Silly Huaixi,” Zhao Fangye said, tapping the tip of his nose, without further explanation.

How could he and Song Huaixi have their own child? Even so, Song Huaixi’s question set Zhao Fangye’s mind racing with possibilities.

If he and Song Huaixi were to have a child, he would want the child to be as adorable as Song Huaixi. Regardless of whether it was a boy or a girl, he would cherish the child.

“Zhao Fangye, you still haven’t answered me,” Song Huaixi persisted, tugging at his sleeve, not letting go when he saw the gentle smile on Zhao Fangye’s face.

Seeing how insistent he was about this question, Zhao Fangye was intrigued and wanted to tease him.

“Does Huaixi want a child?” Zhao Fangye asked with a smile, his gaze falling on his naive face. He placed his hand on his lower abdomen.

The sensation beneath his hand was soft and pliant, just like Song Huaixi, like a docile little rabbit.

Imagining a little one nestled in this slender stomach, Zhao Fangye couldn’t help but feel a strange sensation in his heart.

Song Huaixi shook his head, not really knowing.

He didn’t really have any strong feelings about children either. He was the youngest in the Song Mansion.

“Do you want one, Zhao Fangye?”

If Zhao Fangye liked children, then he would like them too. He had seen children before; they were short and had short limbs. They were very cute.

“I don’t want one,” Zhao Fangye said, placing his hand on his face, his tone full of affection. “Having Huaixi is enough for me, especially since our Huaixi is still a child himself.”

He didn’t want anyone else to steal Song Huaixi’s attention, not even in imagination.

Furthermore, Zhao Fangye was unwilling to subject his slender Huaixi to the pain of childbirth.

He had always been indifferent to familial affection, so having offspring was not important to him.

“Really?” Hearing his words, Song Huaixi immediately forgot about the previous topic.

He grinned, reached out and hugged his neck, looking intently at Zhao Fangye, “Me too! I like Zhao Fangye the most.”

Song Huaixi’s love was always direct and fervent. Every time, it left ripples in Zhao Fangye’s heart.

A person whose love has dried up needs a lover who is generous with their affection.

Telling him again and again, “I love you, I love you.”

His light-colored eyes fixed on him, Zhao Fangye reached out to caress his face, his expression gentle, “Huaixi is such a good boy.”

After saying that, he lifted his chin and placed a tender kiss on his lips.

After a period of affectionate closeness, Song Huaixi climbed off him. He reached out to rub the thigh he had been sitting on, afraid of making it go numb.

Zhao Fangye stopped his movements, “I’m not tired. The journey is long. What does Huaixi want to do to pass the time?”

“Tell a story!” Song Huaixi blurted out, sitting up properly.

    “Alright.”

Zhao Fangye raised an eyebrow, not expecting his little Prince Consort to be so eager to learn.

He bent down, took a book from the small table in the carriage, likely a local gazetteer. He picked out a few relatively interesting stories and began telling them to Song Huaixi.

Song Huaixi listened with great interest, showing no sign of impatience. Zhao Fangye noticed his attentive expression.

He couldn’t help but think of what Song Huaixi had said a few days ago during a meal.

Due to the Crown Prince Zhao Jingshuo’s interference, Song Huaixi was unable to continue studying at Yi Cai Academy.

Zhao Fangye planned that once the situation in the Northwest was stable, he would find a tutor to teach Song Huaixi, allowing him to pursue what he enjoyed.

Song Huaixi’s world shouldn’t only revolve around him; he deserved better.

A piercing pain shot through Liang Xiuzhu’s foot. He knew that if he continued like this, his foot would definitely be ruined.

He was usually someone who knew how to adapt to circumstances. He knew that he shouldn’t be stubborn at this time, and that it would be better to yield.

    He knew all of this.

He had lived his life like this for decades. But today, he just wanted to prove something, even if it meant ruining his foot. He didn’t want Sun Shu to look down on him anymore.

He had thought that their relationship had grown closer in the past few days, but it was all just wishful thinking on his part.

    It was truly laughable.

Sun Shu was walking behind him and noticed that he was limping with great difficulty. Yet he was still stubbornly trying to act tough.

He felt even more annoyed. He knew that he had been excessive earlier and felt some remorse.

He quickened his pace, came to Liang Xiuzhu, and reached out to stop him. “How long are you going to keep this up? Do you not want your foot anymore?”

Liang Xiuzhu gave Sun Shu a cold glance and continued walking forward. “My foot is none of your business. I don’t need Deputy General Sun’s concern.”

It had to be said that Liang Xiuzhu’s sarcastic remarks were no less lethal than Sun Shu’s.

Sun Shu was somewhat speechless after being choked by his words.

The tables had turned for once.

Unable to bear seeing Liang Xiuzhu limping, and knowing that his foot would really be useless if he continued, Sun Shu took a few steps forward, grabbed him, and carried him over his shoulder.

With his feet off the ground, Liang Xiuzhu was hanging upside down, his abdomen pressed against Sun Shu’s shoulder, which was very uncomfortable.

The anger in his heart hadn’t subsided. He struggled and shouted wildly on his shoulder. Sun Shu almost couldn’t hold him down.

“Put me down! I don’t need your help! You look down on people like me anyway! Don’t disgrace Deputy General Sun if word gets out!”

Liang Xiuzhu’s face was flushed and pale, both angry and annoyed. He didn’t want to accept his kindness at all.

Sun Shu ignored him. He knew that Liang Xiuzhu was in a state where he wouldn’t listen to anything he said. There was no need to waste words.

After struggling for a while, Liang Xiuzhu ran out of strength. His stomach was being pushed up, making him want to vomit, and his head was hanging upside down, causing it to be congested with blood. His face was red and white.

Seeing him quiet down, Sun Shu found a place to put him down. Sitting on the ground, Liang Xiuzhu turned his head, not wanting to look at him.

Sun Shu squatted in front of him, saw the disheveled look on his face, and said with some guilt, “Just now… just now, I shouldn’t have said those things. Don’t take it to heart. I don’t dislike you, it’s just that your actions were really…”

“Easy to misunderstand,” he didn’t say the words completely, Liang Xiuzhu exploded.

“You think I really want to seduce you?! Get this straight, I don’t like men! I just admire your physique! What’s wrong with touching it?! Such a stingy man!”

Liang Xiuzhu was red-faced with anger, speaking very quickly, as if afraid that Sun Shu would misunderstand him.

“Is that so?” Sun Shu was taken aback. He looked down at his figure.

Then he looked up at him, his tone sincere, “I shouldn’t have said those things. It won’t happen again in the future.”

Liang Xiuzhu’s anger hadn’t completely subsided, and he didn’t want to talk.

Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Sun Shu took the initiative to bring up a topic.

“What did you mean by what you said just now?” Sun Shu sat down beside him, “Did you come to the Ning Wang Mansion for another reason?”

“What else could it be?” Seeing that he was relatively sincere in admitting his mistake, Liang Xiuzhu said unhappily, “I said from the beginning that I came to the Ning Wang Mansion for my mother.”

After some conversation, Sun Shu only learned what kind of life Liang Xiuzhu had been living, and he felt even more guilty for his assumptions.

After a long silence, Sun Shu didn’t say anything.

He squatted down in front of him and was about to reach out and touch his foot, when Liang Xiuzhu suddenly retracted it. “What are you doing?”

Sun Shu took out the medicine from his pocket and said seriously, “I’m going to check the wound on your foot. If you don’t treat it, it will really be ruined.”
