    Chapter 86: Mishap

The pool water in early spring was bone-chillingly cold.

Liang Xiuzhu was stunned by the impact of the pool water. It took him a while to recover.

    “Cough, cough, cough…”

He choked on several mouthfuls of water before surfacing. He was often bullied at home.

The water in this pool was much better than the lotus pond in winter.

He reached out and paddled on the surface, searching everywhere but couldn’t see Sun Shu’s figure.

They had clearly fallen together just now, so why was he nowhere to be seen?

“Hey! Deputy General Sun! Where are you?”

Liang Xiuzhu soaked in the water and shouted a few times at the surface, but there was no response.

Remembering the wicked smile he had given just before he released his grip without warning, Liang Xiuzhu began to curse.

“Wasn’t he looking all fierce just now? Serves you right if you drown!”

Although he had inherited his mother’s beauty, Liang Xiuzhu had made a life for himself in the courtyard for so many years, and his temperament wasn’t as gentle as his appearance suggested.

On the contrary, he had a bit of shrewishness about him and was never one to suffer losses.

Soaking in the water, he felt like he was about to freeze to death. He originally swam towards the shore, intending to just leave.

But the image of Sun Shu blocking a sword for him in a moment of crisis suddenly flashed in his mind, and his conscience struggled slightly.

He turned around and shouted at the lake surface a few more times, his voice tinged with impatience: “Hey! Did you drown or something? At least answer if you’re still alive!”

Still getting no response, Liang Xiuzhu suddenly felt panicked.

Sun Shu must have been injured fighting the assassins, and he had carried him down from such a high cliff.

Could he have exhausted his strength?

Once this thought arose, Liang Xiuzhu really panicked. He was only joking; he didn’t really want to curse Sun Shu to die.

“Deputy General Sun! Deputy General Sun!” Liang Xiuzhu shouted in the water.

His face was filled with panic.

Looking at the wide, calm surface of the lake, his heart trembled.

Complex emotions intertwined. A sense of sorrow spread through his heart.

No, he couldn’t let him die. Even if he died, he should at least have a complete corpse.

Taking a deep breath, Liang Xiuzhu dived into the water to look for Sun Shu. His eyes stung from being submerged in the lake.

The green lake water was murky, and with the sky gradually darkening, visibility was very low.

Looking for someone in this environment was extremely difficult.

Soon Liang Xiuzhu couldn’t hold his breath any longer. He surfaced to breathe, then repeated the previous action.

He dived again and again but couldn’t find Sun Shu’s figure.

It was as if he had disappeared into thin air.

Floating on the water, Liang Xiuzhu looked at the wide surface and felt a huge sense of helplessness and despair rise in his heart.

He didn’t even know where this was. How was he supposed to escape alone?

After being soaked in the cold water for too long, his limbs began to lose sensation.

Liang Xiuzhu floated on the water, feeling a bad premonition and laughing self-deprecatingly.

“This is great. I should have known not to look. Damn Sun Shu! It’s all your fault; now I’m going to die here too.”

“What ‘die here too’! Liang Xiuzhu, are you sick in the head!”

Just as his vision was blurring, an angry shout came. Then Sun Shu’s face suddenly appeared before him.

Liang Xiuzhu, his lips purple from the cold, looked at him weakly and said, “Damn! Are you a person or a ghost?”

Sun Shu looked at him babbling nonsense with a look of disgust and quickly grabbed him to swim towards the shore.

While swimming, he grumbled, “Didn’t you say you could float? You’re really troublesome.”

They were separated by the water when they fell. Sun Shu knew Liang Xiuzhu could float, so he didn’t pay attention to him and hurried to the shore to make a fire in case they froze to death there as the sky darkened.

Who knew that he had already started the fire on the shore, but this person still hadn’t come ashore. Worried that he might have drowned, Sun Shu hurriedly went into the water to look for him again.

He saw this person inexplicably swimming back and forth in the water. Because of the distance, he couldn’t hear what he was shouting.

By the time he got to his side, this person was almost frozen to death in the lake.

After bringing him ashore, Sun Shu stripped off all his wet clothes neatly and threw them aside, leaving only his underpants.

Sun Shu pulled him closer to the fire and found that he was very light, not the weight an adult man should have.

He frowned, looking at his smooth back, which was trembling non-stop: “Quickly warm yourself by the fire; don’t freeze to death in a moment.”

Liang Xiuzhu sat by the fire, his hair disheveled, his face pale from the cold. He hugged his arms, shivering.

Coupled with his extraordinary appearance, he looked even more fragile, like a magnolia about to wither.

This was a cave beside the pool, semi-open, barely enough to shield them from the wind.

Sun Shu was also only wearing his underpants. He was roasting his own clothes as soon as he got ashore and picked up Liang Xiuzhu’s wet clothes and draped them by the fire.

After a long while, Liang Xiuzhu finally recovered.

Looking at Sun Shu making a fire on the side, he was filled with anger. At least they had gone through thick and thin together; couldn’t he have taken him along?

Hugging his arms, his teeth chattering, he shouted at him, “You! I thought you had died in the lake, did you know that!”

“Heh!” Sun Shu glanced at him and retorted unceremoniously, “You should take care of yourself first. I don’t know what crazy thing you were doing in the water, making me have to save you again.”

    “You!”

Liang Xiuzhu was so angry. He had clearly thought he had drowned and had kindly gone to save him.

On second thought, that was also true. Sun Shu’s martial arts were strong; how could he compare?

He gritted his teeth and said, “Yes, yes, yes, I overestimated myself. I thought you had exhausted yourself and drowned, taking kindness for ill intent.”

Sun Shu’s action of roasting clothes paused. Only then did he realize that Liang Xiuzhu’s behavior in the water was to save him.

Realizing that his tone just now had been a bit harsh, he awkwardly touched his nose.

His gaze flickered slightly, and he saw the white, reflective flesh still shivering under the firelight.

    Sun Shu quickly looked away.

He picked up his outer robe with a pole and threw it to him: “It’s dry, put it on.”

Liang Xiuzhu looked at the clothes in front of him in astonishment.

He didn’t understand why this person had suddenly changed his attitude. But never mind, he was about to freeze to death.

    “Thank you!”

Liang Xiuzhu wrapped the clothes around himself, feeling much better. He wasn’t as cold as before.

Touching the dry fabric of the clothes, he said, “What is this clothes made of? It dries so quickly?”

Seeing him put on his clothes, finally covering up his fair skin,

Sun Shu looked at him properly and said indifferently, “A specially made material for military use. You can’t buy it.”

“Oh.” Liang Xiuzhu nodded and responded dryly.

    The atmosphere became awkward.

Although they had gone through life and death together, the two had never spoken face to face like this. He really didn’t know what topics to talk about.

Moreover, Liang Xiuzhu could feel that Sun Shu didn’t seem to like him.

    “Gurgle…”

Just as he was thinking about how to ease the atmosphere, a slight sound came from Liang Xiuzhu’s stomach.

Touching his stomach, Liang Xiuzhu grimaced: “Ah, my stomach is singing an empty city stratagem.”

He had been avoiding pursuit all the way, then fell into this ghostly place, enduring moments of life and death. Only now did his body react that he was hungry.

Sun Shu glanced at him, got up, and put on the rest of his clothes. He took a short blade in his hand and walked outside.

Seeing that he was leaving, Liang Xiuzhu became anxious and quickly called out to him, afraid that he would leave him behind: “Where are you going?”

Sun Shu walked outwards without looking back, took a few steps, then turned his head and gave him a warning look.

“Stay put, don’t run around, wait for me to come back.”
