BC Chapter 81
by VolareChapter 80
“Too much talking.” Although Lu Ziming had Yao Jinglin’s knife against her neck, she didn’t feel scared at all. She grabbed Yao Jinglin’s combat uniform, pulled her deliberately distanced body closer, and then covered her mouth.
Yao Jinglin also understood that compared to the threat of Lu Ziming’s unknown identity, the rampaging giant zombie was obviously more dangerous to her right now. So, she struggled twice instinctively, then quieted down.
“Roar, roar, roar—” The giant zombie, completely deprived of its sight, seemed to be going crazy. It charged forward, destroying everything it could touch, as if determined to tear apart and kill the two people who had just hurt it. But around it were only a few ordinary zombies, who were unlucky enough to be torn and thrown about, and were quickly motionless.
Lu Ziming and Yao Jinglin hid in the shadows of the lawn bushes, watching the giant zombie’s body slowly disappear around the corner of the main street and the alleyway. The area in front of the People’s Park entrance where they were was finally quiet.
“Phew—finally gone.” After waiting a while longer, Lu Ziming saw that the giant zombie showed no signs of returning, and finally breathed a sigh of relief and muttered to herself.
“Mmm, mmm.” Yao Jinglin knew that the danger was temporarily relieved, so she twisted her body, trying to break free from Lu Ziming’s hand.
“Oh, sorry.” Lu Ziming then remembered that she was still firmly covering the mouth of the rescue team leader, and quickly apologized while letting go.
The two stood up from the bushes where they were hiding. Yao Jinglin, considering that Lu Ziming had just saved her once, didn’t threaten her with the weapon in her hand again, but still asked the previous question: “Who…are you?”
“Me?” Lu Ziming casually replied, dusting herself off, “An ordinary citizen.”
“A survivor from Clear Water City?” Yao Jinglin’s eyes lit up, and she re-examined Lu Ziming. She did look like an ordinary person, but then Yao Jinglin thought about how she had thrown a steel bar with her bare hands and blinded the giant zombie, and how she hadn’t been able to break free when Lu Ziming covered her mouth earlier, and felt that there seemed to be something fishy about it.
Could an ordinary person be this powerful? Yao Jinglin asked herself if she or anyone on the rescue team would have been able to injure the giant zombie with just a half-section of steel bar, but she had done it, and even saved her life in the process. Doubts arose in Yao Jinglin’s mind, but she didn’t continue to pursue the question. She had other things she needed to understand from Lu Ziming.
“Are you here to rescue the survivors of Clear Water City?”
“Do you know the location of other survivors?”
The two asked the questions they were concerned about almost simultaneously. Then they paused at the same time. Lu Ziming was the first to smile helplessly and said, “What if I do know? Do you want to save those people with your own power alone?” Staring at the somewhat disheveled Yao Jinglin in front of her, Lu Ziming didn’t say the sarcastic words that followed, but she believed that someone with the intelligence of a rescue team leader should be able to guess what she meant.
Even the rescue team leader needed to be saved by a survivor, so what was there to talk about rescue?
“Did the people in command send you here as cannon fodder? You rushed in without even knowing the actual situation in Clear Water City. I really don’t know what those people were thinking.” Lu Ziming certainly had a lot of resentment about the rescue team’s late arrival, and she believed that not only her, but anyone who was still alive would feel indignant about this. So, the words coming out of Lu Ziming’s mouth weren’t very polite, and were full of negative complaints.
“It is the nature of our work to take the lead and dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly. To sacrifice for the rescue of the people is a worthy death for soldiers! Please do not use your ordinary values to measure their sacrifices!” Yao Jinglin’s mood had already hit rock bottom because of the sacrifice of her team members, and now she heard words from Lu Ziming that denied their sacrifices, so she naturally became angry and retorted to Lu Ziming with a stern face.
“…Whatever.” Lu Ziming understood Yao Jinglin’s temperament when she saw her serious explanation, and understood that she was the least adept at dealing with such upright and serious people. She was too lazy to argue with her about these useless things, so she planned to gloss over it.
“…Then take me to find those survivors.” Yao Jinglin didn’t expect that the other party wouldn’t take her approach at all. She immediately felt like she had punched cotton, and felt awkward because she had used the wrong force. But the work still had to be done, so she had no choice but to say to Lu Ziming, who was the only one who could help her at this time.
“?” Lu Ziming looked at her in astonishment. Wait, who was it that just criticized her for having ordinary values? Now that she needed her, she was giving orders as if it was a matter of course. She really had a big official’s air about her!! On what basis! Am I supposed to do whatever you want me to do? I’m not a subordinate team member under your command!
“I’m not going.” In fact, if Yao Jinglin’s attitude was better and not so forceful, Lu Ziming might not have refused, even if she was asked to help with the rescue. After all, she had saved those people before. Although she didn’t like interacting with official people, she still wanted those people to be rescued. But Yao Jinglin’s condescending tone made Lu Ziming very uncomfortable, so she refused without thinking.
