Chapter Index

The actions of Yan Shaohang and his group of four were, of course, not going smoothly either. After leaving the school, they kept encountering scattered zombies that came to surround them. Fortunately, their physical abilities after the changes were far beyond what they used to be, and they had each picked up some sticks to use as temporary weapons during their escape. They finally managed to escape into a hotel with some close calls to hide temporarily. The people hiding in the hotel had probably taken the opportunity to run away long ago, so there were no supplies inside that could be used to satisfy their hunger.

After this escape, the four were exhausted. Originally, they had escaped the school to find food and supplies, but the supermarket outside the school had been swarmed by a large number of zombies mindlessly rushing inside during Wan Murong’s last search for supplies. The bustling zombies were crowding inside, so they couldn’t go in to find supplies anymore.

After the group changed direction, they only encountered small restaurants and hotels, dry cleaners, and other shops along the way. There were quite a few zombies wandering outside those shops, so the group could only pick some relatively safe routes to run and fight zombies, relying on their good physical strength and speed, and they really did solve a lot of zombies.

Seeing that everyone was quite tired, they slumped in the swivel chair at the hotel front desk without saying a word. Yan Shaohang, who had recovered some energy first, suggested to the three of them that he go out for another round to see if he could find something to fill their stomachs and replenish their strength.

Yan Song immediately sat up straight, a little worried, and said, “Then I’ll go with you.” He really didn’t want to experience the feeling of losing a partner again, so he seemed a little anxious.

“No need. You stay here. Can you rest assured leaving just the two girls here?” Yan Shaohang smiled and waved his hand. After patting Yan Song’s shoulder reassuringly, he left.

Fortunately, Yan Shaohang, carrying a weapon, quickly found a small supermarket nearby that was relatively out of the way. So he cautiously opened the door and walked in.

It is worth mentioning that after the group had a second injection of the extract, their night vision ability had greatly improved, so although the supermarket was dark, it did not affect Yan Shaohang. He shuttled through it, carefully guarding against zombies that might attack him, and also memorized the locations of various foods.

After walking around, Yan Shaohang did not find any zombies in the supermarket, so he was a little relieved. Then he tucked his weapon under his arm, grabbed a bag of potato chips nearby, tore it open, and tilted his head back to pour a mouthful directly into his mouth – he was really too hungry and didn’t have time to worry about whether it was a staple food. Then, while chewing potato chips, he turned around and took a bottle of Coca-Cola off another shelf.

If Yan Shaohang were to follow his lifestyle before the virus outbreak, he would never eat or drink such high-calorie junk food. Because out of fanaticism for research, he would not allow his body to have problems with diet that would affect his plan to do research. So his diet was structured as clearly and reasonably as doing experiments, with everything from carbohydrates to fiber to vitamins to trace elements to ensure sufficient nutrition intake so that it would not affect the speed of his thinking when he was thinking about problems.

But now he was devouring potato chips and draining more than half a bottle of Coke in one gulp, he was completely different from before. But at this time, he was in no mood to think about anything else. For some reason, seeing food in front of him, he had an impulse to eat and drink it all.

While Yan Shaohang was frantically satisfying his appetite, the door of the utility room at the innermost part of the supermarket was quietly opened. A man in all black slowly walked out of it. The heels of his black leather shoes made a soft clicking sound on the supermarket’s tiled floor. Yan Shaohang, who was tearing open a bag of instant noodles and chewing on them in front of the food shelves, did not hear it.

It wasn’t until the black figure slowly appeared at the end of the same row of shelves as Yan Shaohang, and Yan Shaohang, who was stuffing food into his backpack and eating, finally felt something, and his movements stopped. After pausing for two seconds, he quickly zipped up the backpack in front of his chest, picked up a drink from the shelf, and smashed it in the direction of the dark shadow he had glimpsed out of the corner of his eye, and then ran towards the outside.

However, the speed of the black shadow was not slow at all. He caught the drink that Yan Shaohang threw over with one hand and then suddenly accelerated and chased after Yan Shaohang who was running away.

Although Yan Shaohang did not distinguish whether the other party was a human or a zombie, he sensitively sensed the dangerous aura emanating from the other party. While running, he recalled the scene just now in his mind – no matter what the other party’s actual identity was, he was obviously ill-intentioned, otherwise it would not be possible to appear there quietly in such a ghostly state, but not say hello, nor immediately make a move.

In that situation, the other party’s behavior can be said to be very abnormal, but it is not impossible to explain. With Yan Shaohang’s IQ, a little thought was enough to understand the reason – obviously, what the other party had just done was like wild beasts quietly observing their prey and then preparing to seize the opportunity to take down the other party in one fell swoop.

    That black shadow was hunting!
