Chapter 45
When the three of them had just discussed the issue of virus mutation, Lu Ziming didn’t mention that Zhou Yuanyuan might have been infected. Firstly, she was afraid of causing unnecessary panic, and secondly, compared to Jiang Juncheng who had saved her, she valued Zhou Yuanyuan more. Perhaps because the two of them had already experienced several life-and-death situations together, Lu Ziming subconsciously regarded Zhou Yuanyuan as one of her own.
Moreover, her concealing this wasn’t meant to harm Jiang Juncheng. She figured that since she and Zhou Yuanyuan would definitely be in the same space during rest, if anything really happened, she would be the first to eliminate Zhou Yuanyuan after she turned into a zombie. If she accidentally got bitten or injured herself, then she would have to steel herself and commit suicide.
These were originally Lu Ziming’s plans.
But what she didn’t expect was that the first to show abnormalities wasn’t Zhou Yuanyuan, but herself.
Zhou Yuanyuan struggled to support Lu Ziming, who was nearly half-unconscious, into the bathroom. Fortunately, there was a bathtub in the bathroom that was large enough for one person, so she slowly lowered Lu Ziming into the tub. After taking off her shoes, outer shirt, and work pants, Zhou Yuanyuan was already panting with exhaustion.
She plugged in the water heater, adjusted the water temperature, and watched as the water gradually covered Lu Ziming’s body before pulling her up to sit in the tub. However, the dazed Lu Ziming was so weak that she could only lean on her.
Zhou Yuanyuan supported Lu Ziming’s head with her shoulder and reached for Lu Ziming’s back, which was covered by a T-shirt. There was a small cut there, and the blood that had seeped out had already scabbed over.
She lifted the T-shirt on Lu Ziming’s back, and right next to the bra strap, diagonally above the shoulder blade, a thumb-sized wound appeared before her.
Lu Ziming had been carrying a bag all along, so this spot was covered. Zhou Yuanyuan hadn’t seen it, and Jiang Juncheng hadn’t noticed it either. And Lu Ziming, being the taciturn type, had more than one wound on her body, and the painful areas weren’t clearly defined. Her tolerance for pain was also very high, so she didn’t take it seriously. Because of this, her outward appearance seemed nonchalant and calm, making it impossible to tell anything was wrong. It wasn’t until the appearance of symptoms similar to Zhou Yuanyuan’s previous ones that Zhou Yuanyuan realized something was amiss.
But like Lu Ziming, she didn’t explain this to Jiang Juncheng; she concealed it as well.
After all, their previous conclusions were just guesses, and she couldn’t be sure if she had really been infected with the virus. But now that Lu Ziming had also been affected and was showing the same symptoms as herself, she thought now was the best time to verify their conjecture. However, she didn’t expect Lu Ziming’s symptoms to be even more severe than her own at the time; the whole person was clearly in a coma.
With immense effort, Zhou Yuanyuan managed to help Lu Ziming sweat a little with lukewarm water and then helped her wash her body.
But Zhou Yuanyuan didn’t know what was wrong with herself. When she was helping Lu Ziming take off her bra, her heart was beating so fast. She was already covered in sweat from exhaustion, and now she felt her face and ears were also burning. To avoid embarrassment, she didn’t dare to look closely at Lu Ziming’s body, only roughly wiping her down and treating the wound.
In the middle, Jiang Juncheng came to deliver towels and a change of clothes. Seeing Zhou Yuanyuan, her face flushed, attending to the dazed Lu Ziming, he gave an knowing and playful smile before retreating.
After helping Lu Ziming roughly clean her body, put on her clothes, and put her on the single folding bed that Jiang Juncheng had prepared, two hours had already passed.
Fortunately, Jiang Juncheng had continued to research whether he could create faster weapons to eliminate zombies and hadn’t noticed how long the two had spent just washing up. Only then did Zhou Yuanyuan feel relieved enough to return to the bathroom to take care of herself.
Although it was only afternoon outside, for Jiang Juncheng and the others, it no longer mattered whether it was early or late, considering they had experienced such a thrilling event in the morning and had just gone through it all over again. After Zhou Yuanyuan washed up, she felt so exhausted that she collapsed on the sofa and fell asleep.
Jiang Juncheng came to his senses and realized that both of them had fallen asleep. Thoughtfully, he switched the central bright white light to a deep blue ambient light before returning to his room to rest as well.
Under the deep blue light, a figure slowly sat up from the cot. In the dim light, in the opened eyes, the position that should have been the whites of the eyes was abnormally filled with red blood vessels.
The person who had staggered off the bed was none other than Lu Ziming, who had been attended to by Zhou Yuanyuan for two hours.
At this moment, Lu Ziming’s expression was dazed, as if she were being controlled by something. Her nose twitched a couple of times, and she stumbled towards Zhou Yuanyuan, who was sleeping on the sofa.
And at this moment, Zhou Yuanyuan was still sleeping soundly, completely unaware that danger was approaching.
It wasn’t until the dazed Lu Ziming bent down and brought her face close to Zhou Yuanyuan that the sleeping Zhou Yuanyuan seemed to sense something and slowly opened her eyes. Her blurred gaze was still a little confused when she saw Lu Ziming approaching.
Then, Lu Ziming, her eyes red, suddenly reached out her hands and pressed them on Zhou Yuanyuan’s shoulders.
Perhaps because she had already seen that the person in front of her was Lu Ziming, Zhou Yuanyuan wasn’t startled into screaming; she just quietly watched Lu Ziming’s face slowly approach.
The fragrance of the delicious food so close at hand made the redness in Lu Ziming’s eyes intensify. She obeyed the impulse within her, extended her tongue, and slowly licked the exposed collarbone of Zhou Yuanyuan, then opened her mouth, wanting to bite down…
However, at the same time that her tongue licked Zhou Yuanyuan’s body, Zhou Yuanyuan’s body had already reacted before her mind could. She reached back and hugged Lu Ziming.
Lu Ziming’s mouth was already open, and with Zhou Yuanyuan’s hug, her whole body fell directly into Zhou Yuanyuan’s arms. Her teeth bumped against Zhou Yuanyuan’s collarbone, shaking her head clear, and she finally broke free from the state of being controlled by something other than her reason.
After waking up, she immediately realized the strangeness of the situation…
Why… was she on top of Zhou Yuanyuan??? And the two of them were in such an extremely ambiguous and confusing position… What had she just done? What was she doing now???!!
After being bumped on the bone by Lu Ziming, Zhou Yuanyuan also finally recovered from the docile, submissive state she was just in and quickly removed her hands from Lu Ziming’s body.
The two of them were like two magnets with the wrong poles facing each other. Just now, they were getting closer and closer, attracting each other, but now, they were repelling each other, and they sprang apart.
