    Chapter 33

Huang Xiaolin’s tears streamed down her face, yet she couldn’t understand why she was crying. Crying for such a scumbag? Was it worth it?

She asked herself the same question. But regardless of whether it was worth it, her tears fell uncontrollably, and her heart felt as if someone was squeezing it hard, the pain suffocating her. After her heartbreak, she rebelliously cut her long hair short. Until graduation, until leaving school, and even after working at her current company, she hadn’t dated again.

She felt like something about her had changed, but not completely. She still didn’t dare to disobey her parents, only choosing to remain silent when faced with their questioning. She felt like she hadn’t grown up the way she imagined she would as a child, as if her soul had been twisted into a deformed shape. But now, it was too late to correct it. She no longer knew what the real her was like. Having escaped her parents’ arrangements, what kind of person did she want to become? She didn’t know anymore.

    What is right?

Now, facing this life-or-death situation, she thought of this question again. Actually, she used to enjoy sports as a child, but her mother said that sports would darken her skin, so she was made to learn piano, which only required moving her fingers indoors. But she had no natural musical talent, and in the end, she gave up after wasting a lot of money. She had experienced too many things like this from childhood to adulthood. Whatever she liked, her parents would find reasons to dissuade her and then recommend what they wanted her to do.

So, she became who she was today.

But, to be honest, she felt a deep sense of powerlessness in everything she did, and she often felt inexplicably self-loathing. So she had become someone who didn’t understand the meaning of life. However, at this moment, in this truly life-or-death situation, the real her gradually revealed herself. She thought she didn’t care about life and death, but now she knew she was also afraid of being left behind and dying alone. She thought she was timid, but now that she had to overcome herself, a sense of fearlessness inexplicably arose in her heart.

With Hu Ying’s help, Huang Xiaolin finally gritted her teeth and climbed onto the small window, then slowly used her hands and feet to safely descend to the first floor using the curtain rope ladder left by Lu Ziming and Zhou Yuanyuan.

Safely landing, Huang Xiaolin suddenly felt an unparalleled sense of accomplishment. She thought that she wasn’t completely useless after all. If she could start a normal life again, she would definitely pursue the sports she loved. If she couldn’t do anything well, she would at least die trying on the path she loved.

To hell with gentleness! And to hell with being a lady!

Hu Ying followed behind Huang Xiaolin and slowly slid down the rope ladder. However, just when they thought they had finally escaped the business office building, Hu Ying stretched out her long leg and accidentally stepped on a pebble about half the size of her foot in the grass. The stone rolled, and Hu Ying, who had already let go of the rope, fell directly.

“Thump.” Although the sound of the fall wasn’t loud because of the grass, Hu Ying uncontrollably cried out “Ouch,” which was fatal.

In less than a minute, a black figure appeared from the corner of the front of the building. The figure first slowly ran over, but after turning the corner and seeing Hu Ying and Huang Xiaolin supporting each other in the moonlight, the black figure finally seemed to discover its prey, like a wild beast, and sprinted towards them.

In the moonlight, it could be seen that the black figure was wearing a tight-fitting sports outfit and running shoes. As he ran, the wired Bluetooth earphones around his neck swung back and forth.

It seemed that this zombie was just an innocent passerby running around the park when the zombie outbreak occurred.

And at this moment, the muscles he had trained in peacetime had undoubtedly become a nightmare for Huang Xiaolin and Hu Ying.

He was running too fast, unlike the zombies they had seen struggling to move on the streets before.

“Run!! Run!!” Seeing this zombie, the two hadn’t recovered at first, but seeing the zombie rushing towards them, they suddenly woke up, screamed, and ran in another direction.

Because they were frightened and didn’t choose their path carefully, the two women, who were close together, separated after only a few steps. However, the black figure zombie single-mindedly followed behind Hu Ying, chasing her relentlessly.

Huang Xiaolin’s body was already weak, and she didn’t exercise regularly, and her job required her to sit in the office, so her overall physical fitness was poor. She had already gotten a stitch in her side before she had run for two minutes with all her strength.

At this time, as her speed slowed down, she unconsciously looked back worriedly, but she only saw a large group of zombies rushing out one after another from the previous corner.

But she couldn’t run very well anymore.

Looking back at Hu Ying, who was running desperately ahead, she knew very well that it was only a matter of time before she was caught by those zombies. Then why not buy Hu Ying more time?

Thinking this, she ran towards Hu Ying, successfully positioning herself between Hu Ying and the black figure zombie behind her.

Then, she used all her strength to shout to Hu Ying in front of her: “Sister Ying!! Thank you!!”

Hearing this, Hu Ying shouted anxiously to her while running: “What time is it, why are you saying this!! Run!!” After shouting, seeing Huang Xiaolin’s speed slowing down, she wanted to slow down to pull her.

Unexpectedly, Huang Xiaolin actually stopped, then waved to Hu Ying in front of her and smiled slightly: “Don’t worry about me, you have to live well! Live for me…”

Before Huang Xiaolin could finish speaking, the black figure zombie, who had already run behind her, jumped up and pounced on her, opening its stinking mouth and biting her shoulder.

Seeing this scene, Hu Ying, who was running in front, stopped in shock, and turned around incredulously, watching the black figure zombie bite Huang Xiaolin again. Huang Xiaolin screamed loudly, but she flipped over with all her strength, clamping the zombie tightly under her. Blood flowed non-stop from her shoulder, and the pain affected every nerve in her body, but she still used all her strength to prevent the black figure zombie from getting up and continuing to chase Hu Ying.

“Run! Run!! Run quickly!!” Huang Xiaolin shouted angrily at the stunned Hu Ying, enduring the pain.

Hu Ying finally recovered. She took steps backward in disbelief, her lips trembling and unable to speak. Then, with tears filling her eyes, she finally ran away again.

This time, she didn’t look back. But she left many sparkling teardrops along the way.
