Chapter Index

Wen Mian nodded, glancing at her own hand out of the corner of her eye. “Fine, then you go for it.”

The audience in the live stream reacted immediately.

[Haha, why ask if she’s tired? You should ask if she can handle it!]

    [You guys…!]

[Stop! Don’t mock our Manman, she has dignity too, okay!]

[Hahaha, we’re not mocking, we just purely want to laugh, hahahaha…]

Gu Man put down the water bucket filled with water and lowered her head to roll up her sleeves.

Wen Mian picked up the water scoop and bent down to carefully water the seedlings.

After everything was done, the two were led by the eldest sister to the backyard, followed by looks of envy and jealousy.

Song Xue exerted force with her hand, snapping a seedling which fell to the ground.

Zhang Yunxi immediately cried out, “Xuexue, the seedling! The seedling!”

Everyone and the live stream’s attention were instantly drawn over. Song Xue quickly retracted her gaze, her face instantly turning pale. She hurriedly squatted down, “O-okay!”

Zhang Yunxi chuckled inwardly. With me here, don’t even think about causing trouble!

Everyone who manages to survive in the entertainment industry isn’t exactly simple-minded. Seeing Song Xue’s reaction, they awkwardly turned their heads away.

Director Wang Qiang waved his hand dismissively, signaling that it was fine, but he was internally fuming. He regretted not filming Wen Mian instead!

The people on site were all old foxes and paid her no mind. Song Xue secretly gritted her teeth, a hint of viciousness in her expression, but the moment she saw the camera, she instantly looked pitiful.

Her eyes suddenly reddened. Song Xue quickly lowered her head, standing there silently and helplessly, her hands trembling slightly.

Her fans in the live stream were heartbroken beyond words.

    [Wuwu, my Xuexue, don’t cry!]

[Exactly, tears are pearls, don’t cry!]

[It’s all Zhang Yunxi’s fault. Why did she speak so loudly? She scared our Xuexue. Doesn’t she know Xuexue is prone to self-blame!]

[Hmm… although, I can’t stand this. Xi Xi was clearly speaking normally, okay? She didn’t say anything excessive!]

[Exactly! She was speaking normally. They’re acting like someone hit her!]

[Our Xuexue wouldn’t cry if she was speaking normally. It’s because Zhang Yunxi spoke too harshly!]

    [Agreed!]

[Too lazy to deal with you, a bunch of idiots missing a few screws. Might as well go watch Wen Mian!]

[Don’t drag our Mianmian into this!!!]

A massive battle erupted in the live stream, while the atmosphere between Wen Mian and Gu Man on the other side was calm and peaceful.

It was harvest season. The sky was cloudless, and sunlight filtered through the branches, bathing Wen Mian entirely.

Wen Mian comfortably closed her eyes, enjoying the gentle breeze.

In the courtyard behind them, the smoke of cooking rose, and a fragrant aroma wafted over.

A slight tickle came from her calf. Wen Mian looked up in confusion. A hand, translucent like jade, shielded the sunlight filtering down.

Looking down, a completely white dog was pawing at her pant leg. Wen Mian’s eyes softened. She bent down and rubbed its body.

“What is it? Want to play with Jie Jie?”

The dog lay down on all fours, its tail wagging happily, letting out a soft “woof woof.”

Wen Mian stroked its head. It immediately rolled over, exposing its belly.

Wen Mian simply squatted down from the stool, tapped its head, and said affectionately, “Why are you so friendly!”

The puppy rolled over, stopping when it bumped against Gu Man’s feet. It looked up curiously, and upon seeing Gu Man, its tail wagged even faster, staring at her with bright eyes.

Gu Man quietly met its gaze, a hint of hesitation in her expression. Finally, she chose to squat down and extend her hand.

A cool sensation transmitted through her fingers. Wen Mian suddenly looked up. She was very close to Gu Man, close enough to see the flawless pores on her face.

Gu Man hadn’t expected to touch Wen Mian. She blinked in confusion, momentarily stunned.

The happy puppy, which had been fighting with all its might for attention, suddenly stopped being stroked. It turned its head in confusion, saw the two women’s touching fingertips, and nudged them, letting out two “woof woof” sounds.

Like a clap of thunder, Gu Man quickly withdrew her hand, unsure where to look.

Wen Mian slightly curled her fingers, then slowly placed her hand on the puppy’s head and rubbed it.

The puppy immediately became happy again, jumping and frolicking.

The sunlight fell gently. Wen Mian lowered her eyes and smiled faintly. Gu Man glanced over from the corner of her eye and froze, unable to look away.

    […I don’t know if I should say this, but I feel something…]

[Sister, you get me. Such a feeling moment. I want to ship them…]

[Me too, but I also feel like I shouldn’t.]

[You guys overthink things too much. Unlike me, this is exactly what I like!]

[Me too! Who cares? I’m shipping it! We’ll worry about the consequences later!]

Thus, the bewildered “Man Guang” audience watched as a CP super-topic named “Gu Wen Yu Sheng” (Gu Wen’s Remaining Life) was established, surviving in the cracks of the fandom.

The vegetable patch owner walked out of the courtyard and smiled honestly, “Time to eat.”

Wen Mian turned around. “Let’s go.”

With that, she stood up and walked ahead.

After quickly washing her hands, Wen Mian looked at the rich farmhouse dishes on the table, her eyes sparkling with hunger.

The pot-stewed chicken was tender but not dry, the potatoes were soft and flavorful, and paired with corn cakes, it had an indescribable taste.

The small green vegetables grown on site were crisp, refreshing, and slightly sweet.

Not to mention the braised pork ribs with chestnuts, which was absolutely delicious with rice.

Wen Mian ate with immense satisfaction. One bowl of rice wasn’t enough, so she served herself another.

Gu Man quietly observed her, watching her pick up a piece of chicken, eat it, and close her eyes in satisfaction, her cheeks puffed out.

Gu Man’s fingers twitched, feeling a slight itch, but she quickly averted her gaze.

After eating, Wen Mian covered her full stomach and happily slumped onto the stool, completely disregarding her image.

Gu Man thought for a moment, put her hands behind her back, and took out her thermos, placing it on the table.

“Whoosh!” Wen Mian straightened up, opened the cup, and took a big gulp, her eyes shining.

Wang Qiang glanced at the screen full of inquiries in the live stream, and curiosity welled up. “Mianmian, what do you have in your cup?”

A mischievous glint flashed in Wen Mian’s eyes. She shook the thermos and drew out her words, “You want to know?”

Wang Qiang smiled ingratiatingly, “I am a little curious.”

Wen Mian placed her index finger between her lips, blinked her foxy eyes, looking alluring and beautiful. “You want to know—”

She drew out the final syllable, delaying the answer.

Wang Qiang sighed inwardly. He knew this would happen. He nodded. “Tell me, what are your conditions?”

Wen Mian pretended to think. “Then—we rest this afternoon.”

“This afternoon—rest this afternoon! Okay!” Wang Qiang thought he had misheard and agreed readily, afraid Wen Mian would change her mind.

Hearing Wang Qiang agree, Wen Mian held the thermos and spoke. “Actually, there’s nothing much inside. It’s just cola.”

“Cola?” Wang Qiang’s voice cracked. He looked at the thermos in Wen Mian’s hand in disbelief. So he had agreed to let her rest this afternoon just for this?!

His heart ached unbearably. Wang Qiang wanted to cry.

The audience in the live stream enjoyed the drama.

[Hahaha, so it’s cola. I thought it was something good!]

[Director, face reality. You can’t win against Wen Mian.]

[Hahaha, is putting cola in a thermos a new fashion trend?]

[The Director is being played by Wen Mian.]

[Wait, I remember Wen Mian put something else in there.]

[It seems so. Does anyone know what she put in?]

Wang Qiang seized these two comments from the barrage of mockery and asked Wen Mian, unwilling to give up, “I see everyone saying Mianmian put something else in. What was it?”

Wen Mian thought for a second and replied decisively, “Codonopsis root!”

“Co-Codonopsis root?” Wang Qiang repeated, unable to believe it, his tone full of doubt.

“Yes, Codonopsis root!” Wen Mian was puzzled. What’s wrong with adding Codonopsis root? Is he looking down on my health secret?

Wang Qiang was speechless. After a long while, he spoke, “Why add Codonopsis root to cola?”

Wen Mian first took a sip, then replied, “It’s simple. I’m physically weak, so I need a tonic.”

Physically weak, so add Codonopsis root. Nothing wrong with that! Nothing wrong with that, my foot!

Wang Qiang complained internally, maintaining a suffering smile on his face. “But will adding Codonopsis root to cola have any effect?”

Wen Mian nodded firmly, without the slightest hesitation. “Of course it will have an effect. Psychological effect is also a good effect.”

“That’s true…” Wang Qiang had nothing left to say and closed his mouth meekly.

The live stream audience was laughing hysterically.

[Hahaha, how is psychological effect not an effect?]

[Exactly! Whether it works on the body or not, as long as I feel good about it!]

[Nonsense! How is it useless for the body? At least we feel comfortable mentally, and the heart is the most important part of the body!]

[Hahahaha, I let out my first burst of laughter today!]

[Wen Mian knows what’s up. Cola plus Codonopsis root, nourishing and comfortable. I’ve learned something!]

[Quick, take out your little notebooks and write this down!]

[Haha, why are you writing down such useless things!]

[Nonsense! It’s very useful! Shut your mouth!]

Gu Man also revealed a faint smile, her phoenix eyes slightly upturned, and the small mole at the corner of her eye danced with them, reducing her usual distance and coldness, adding a touch of allure.

Wen Mian’s gaze drifted uncontrollably towards her. The dimple on her right cheek held a sweet honey.

After the date ended, Wen Mian flopped onto the soft bed, sighing comfortably.

The others in the small house hadn’t returned yet. Wen Mian glanced around the room. Just as everyone thought she was going to tidy up, Wen Mian rolled over and sank back into the quilt.

“Lying down is still the most comfortable!” Wen Mian picked up her phone, put a novel on the side, and slowly drifted off to sleep.

[Alright, disperse, Wen Mian is sleeping.]

[Who invented Wen Mian? How can she be so hilarious.]

[Isn’t this just me? I really don’t want to do anything at home, just want to lie down.]

[Me too. My bed and I cannot be separated, except for bathroom breaks.]

    *

The sky was hazy, and the sunlight gradually dimmed. Wen Mian stretched and climbed out of bed.

Downstairs, Zhang Yunxi and Su Shiqiu had already prepared dinner. Seeing Wen Mian come down, Zhang Yunxi immediately went to her side. “You’re awake.”

Wen Mian nodded, inhaling deeply. She smiled broadly. “It smells so good! Didn’t you say you couldn’t cook? Were you lying to me?”

Zhang Yunxi scratched her head and laughed. “I really can’t. Part of it is takeout, and part of it I learned on the spot. The delicious smell you’re noticing is probably the cream of mushroom soup Gu Jie made.”
