    Chapter 44: Contradictory and Desperate

If Li Chongge hadn’t seen Qin Yuanging walking out of the hotel with that guy, then Qin Yuanging’s drunken flirtation with him tonight would have been enough to make him ecstatic.

But the reality was so cruel. He had driven four hours alone, full of anticipation, to the hotel where Qin Yuanging was staying, only to witness Qin Yuanging having someone else by his side.

What despaired Li Chongge the most was that he didn’t even have the position to question or be jealous.

    They were just friends.

This wasn’t betrayal, just Qin Yuanging making a choice.

But unfortunately, Li Chongge didn’t become Qin Yuanging’s choice.

So Li Chongge wasn’t angry at Qin Yuanging, he was just angry at himself.

But he couldn’t understand what Qin Yuanging’s actions that night meant. Was he drunk or… crazy?

But no matter what, Qin Yuanging was drunk, crazy, but Li Chongge wasn’t.

If he indulged himself tonight, then what would he and Qin Yuanging do in the future? What would they be to each other?

He couldn’t openly love Qin Yuanging, so what right did he have to touch Qin Yuanging?

Pushing Qin Yuanging away took great courage, but leaving Qin Yuanging took even greater courage.

The latter was absolutely impossible for him, so he chose the former.

Li Chongge had never been so rational as he was now. He knew what he wanted, and he knew what he was most afraid of losing.

There was no argument between the two because they both tacitly pretended that nothing had happened.

Their state seemed to have returned to when Qin Yuanging had just returned to the country, full of distance.

Qin Yuanging packed up some things and moved back home.

    Sometimes, avoidance is quite useful.

At least he didn’t have to recall the unbearable events of that night all the time.

Before leaving, he sent Li Chongge a message.

“I’m going back to stay with my parents for a while, so I won’t be coming here.”

After a long time, Li Chongge replied with an “Okay.”

Life at home was very warm. Yu Keci was determined to make up for all the weight her son had lost, and arranged for the maids to cook him all kinds of delicacies every day.

Qin Haoting also noticed that Qin Yuanging seemed to be in a bad mood, and would always find various reasons to chat with him and keep him company.

But Qin Yuanging still couldn’t help but stare at his phone every day.

He even occasionally flipped through their previous chat records, trying to fill the emptiness in his heart that he felt growing day by day.

The two met again on a Friday afternoon.

Qin Yuanging wanted to sneak back to pack up a few more things, but Li Chongge ran into him in the garage.

    “You’re back?”

Qin Yuanging was surprised that Li Chongge would be back at this time, and also noticed that he was carrying fresh vegetables in his hand.

This was very strange because Li Chongge never cooked.

Qin Yuanging couldn’t help but wonder if Li Chongge had come back early specifically because someone who could cook would be visiting him later?

    Who would it be?

Qiao Gongyu? Or a new girlfriend he had made sometime he didn’t know about…

“I came back to get something.”

The two entered the elevator together, and Li Chongge asked him, “Do you want to have dinner together?”

Qin Yuanging knew that this was probably Li Chongge giving him a way out, so he hesitated and agreed.

After all, although Qin Yuanging was still furious about Li Chongge’s words that night, he had never thought of breaking up with Li Chongge.

“Where should we go to eat? I’ll book a restaurant in advance.”

Li Chongge lifted the bag in his hand.

    “At home, I’ll cook.”

    Qin Yuanging’s eyes widened.

    “You can cook?”

Li Chongge said, “I’ve been learning recently, it’s not difficult.”

Entering the house, Li Chongge bent down to get him slippers.

“Entertain yourself, I’m not very skilled yet, so you’ll have to wait a little longer.”

Li Chongge’s expression and tone were very natural, as if he really didn’t care about what happened that night.

Qin Yuanging felt a lump in his throat, neither up nor down.

“Oh right, I remember my ID card is still with you.”

Qin Yuanging didn’t have a good storage habit. After casually stuffing his ID card into Li Chongge’s bag once, he never took it back.

“Yeah, I’ll get it for you after dinner.”

Li Chongge went into the kitchen, and Qin Yuanging stood sadly in front of the French windows.

Sad for his unrequited love that had come to nothing.

After this battle, Qin Yuanging had exhausted all his courage. In the future, he would no longer harbor any unrealistic fantasies.

He and Li Chongge, being friends for life, was enough.

The more greedy a person is, the more they lose.

That ring, like his unrequited love, would never see the light of day.

Li Chongge set the dishes, and called Qin Yuanging, who was huddled on the sofa in a daze, to come over for dinner.

The meal was very rich. For the two of them, Li Chongge made three dishes and a soup, all with great color, aroma, and taste.

Li Chongge was capable of doing everything perfectly.

Even cooking, he learned faster and did better than others.

Qin Yuanging hadn’t eaten well for many days. Only with Li Chongge by his side today did he have some appetite.

“How did you suddenly start cooking?”

Li Chongge looked at Qin Yuanging’s increasingly prominent collarbone, and his heart felt like it was scratched by a bamboo strip with thorns, both stinging and painful.

He just wanted to do better.

“I was tired of eating outside, so it’s not bad to do it myself.”

Li Chongge silently added more rice to Qin Yuanging’s bowl.

    He’s lost weight again.

“When are you planning to move back?”

Qin Yuanging held his bowl and drank the soup, not wanting to answer this question.

He was in a state of desperate contradiction. He really, really wanted to see Li Chongge, but at the same time, he knew that if he didn’t withdraw in time, he would go crazy sooner or later.

To this day, he could no longer bear to witness Li Chongge falling in love with someone else. What would he do then?

“We’ll see. It’s nice for me to stay at home, my parents miss me staying there too.”

Li Chongge didn’t say anything more.

“Do you need me to go up with you to pack up your things later?”

“No, I don’t have many things to take, it will only take two or three minutes.”

Qin Yuanging refused decisively. As soon as he returned to the twenty-first floor, his memories would uncontrollably return to that night.

It was enough for him to recall it alone, he didn’t want Li Chongge to remember anything.

After dinner, Li Chongge took a small card case from the study.

“Keep it safe, don’t lose it.”

Qin Yuanging returned to the twenty-first floor, quickly packed his things and was about to flee, but couldn’t help but stop when he caught sight of the velvet little square box being thrown aside.

It had done nothing wrong, but now it was left here all alone.

Qin Yuanging tried to put it on his finger, but unfortunately it wasn’t his size. The ring was loose on his hand and could be thrown off at any time.

But Qin Yuanging still took it away.

After all, the owner of this gift would not have a day to receive it.
