    Chapter 42: Sudden Coldness

On the day Qin Yuanging returned, he was filled with anticipation, expecting Li Chongge to be waiting for him at their place, welcoming him back.

But after Qin Yuanging excitedly returned, he realized it was all wishful thinking.

Li Chongge went to work as usual, not caring at all whether he had returned or not.

Looking at the empty house, Qin Yuanging couldn’t deny his disappointment.

Fortunately, Jiang Muyuan hadn’t forgotten him and invited him out for dinner near suppertime.

Before going out this time, Qin Yuanging didn’t forget to report to Li Chongge.

“Are you free tonight? If not, I’ll go eat with Jiang Muyuan and the others?”

“Mm, I have something on tonight.”

Qin Yuanging could hardly believe that Li Chongge’s way of welcoming him back was this cold.

They were clearly fine just a couple of days ago…

Qin Yuanging couldn’t figure out what went wrong, so he said, “I think I’m just being sentimental.”

Jiang Muyuan swirled her wine glass, her eyebrows furrowed.

“That shouldn’t be the case, right? How come you were telling me a few days ago that you were making progress, and today he’s not even acknowledging you?”

Sun Qihao took a sip of wine, abandoning his usual cynicism, and seriously analyzed the situation for Qin Yuanging: “Did you do something to upset him? Think carefully.”

Qin Yuanging held his head in thought, finally shaking it helplessly.

    “I don’t think so.”

Jiang Muyuan tapped the wine glass with her knuckle and asked, “So what do you want to do now? Retreat?”

Qin Yuanging smiled wryly: “What else can I do? Li Chongge has made it clear that he only sees me as a friend, and doesn’t think of me in any other way. It’s good that nothing has happened yet, so it’s better for both of us to take a step back.”

“I don’t think so.” Jiang Muyuan thought for a moment, her expression very serious: “Li Chongge is a very emotionally stable person, so his sudden coldness is strange, don’t you think?”

Jiang Muyuan’s analysis made sense, and Qin Yuanging couldn’t find any words to refute her.

She was right, Li Chongge had never been like this before.

Sun Qihao was still worried for Qin Yuanging: “Why don’t you just give up? Li Chongge is not someone we can afford to provoke.”

Jiang Muyuan rolled her eyes at him.

“Then ask him yourself, are you willing to give up?”

Willing? How could he be willing? If Qin Yuanging was really willing to give up, he wouldn’t have bought that ring.

Qin Yuanging’s expression had already given the two of them the answer.

So Jiang Muyuan asked him: “Can you drink?”

    “Yes.”

    “Are you a good drinker?”

    “I’m alright.”

Jiang Muyuan poured three glasses of white wine and told Qin Yuanging: “No, you’re not a good drinker.”

Jiang Muyuan picked up a glass of wine and gave it to Qin Yuanging to drink for courage.

She used another glass of wine for Qin Yuanging to rinse his mouth, and finally sprinkled the last glass on Qin Yuanging’s collar.

    “Dare to try it?”

Qin Yuanging thought about it and said he dared.

Anyway, no matter what happened then, Qin Yuanging would claim he was drunk.

Having reached this point today, Qin Yuanging had gone back and forth testing the waters, completely trapping himself.

Perhaps it was because of that glass of wine, Qin Yuanging did suddenly feel a bit of courage.

“Sun Qihao, take Yuanging’s phone and call Li Chongge, tell him he’s drunk, and ask Li Chongge to come pick him up.”

Sun Qihao held up the phone and asked: “What if he doesn’t come?”

Jiang Muyuan looked at Qin Yuanging very seriously and said, “Then there’s no need to try anymore.”

If Li Chongge really abandoned Qin Yuanging, then there was no such thing as liking or not liking.

The phone connected, and Sun Qihao quickly finished saying the words he had rehearsed in his mind, swallowed his saliva, and waited nervously for Li Chongge’s reply.

Fortunately, Li Chongge didn’t make him wait too long.

    “Give me an address.”

Sun Qihao breathed a sigh of relief and quickly recited an address to Li Chongge.

“The rest is up to you.”

Jiang Muyuan patted Qin Yuanging’s shoulder, got up, and grabbed her bag to leave.

Sun Qihao called out to her: “Li Chongge is coming soon, why are you leaving?”

Jiang Muyuan turned her head and blinked innocently: “It’s precisely because he’s coming that I have to leave. It wasn’t me who made Qin Yuanging drunk like this, it was you!”

    Sun Qihao’s face darkened.

    “Jiang Muyuan, you’re so vicious!”

Jiang Muyuan nodded very modestly and then instructed: “When you hand him over to Li Chongge, remember to say that he was in a bad mood and drank a couple of extra glasses, got it?”

“Got it, got it, got it! You’re the smartest!”

Qin Yuanging was indeed in a bad mood and didn’t pay attention to the two of them singing a duet in his ear.

He leaned on the sofa, pretending to sleep, and didn’t know how long passed before Sun Qihao’s slightly pathetic voice rang in his ear.

    It was Li Chongge.

“I originally wanted to take him back myself, but I don’t know the specific address of where Yuanging lives now, and he’s completely drunk, and he can’t explain it even if I ask him. I happened to hear Yuanging say before that he seems to be neighbors with Mr. Li now, that’s why I made this call…”

Li Chongge lowered his eyes and glanced at Qin Yuanging, who was slumped on the sofa, hummed softly, and then said, “Okay, I understand, I’ll take him back.”

After Sun Qihao thanked him, he pretended to help Li Chongge get the man into the car, and then ran away as fast as he could.

Qin Yuanging sat in the passenger seat, his head hanging very low, the strong smell of alcohol on his body turning the entire car into a wine cellar.

Li Chongge stared at him for a while, without saying anything, silently driving towards their place.

Qin Yuanging also didn’t speak, he didn’t want to speak right now.

Li Chongge’s coldness had ultimately made him a little sad.

When they arrived at the garage, he got out of the car first, walked around to the passenger seat, opened the door, and unbuckled Qin Yuanging’s seatbelt.

“We’re here, get out of the car.”

Qin Yuanging sat there without moving, so Li Chongge had to half-drag, half-pull him out of the car.

As soon as his feet touched the ground, Qin Yuanging’s entire weight fell on Li Chongge, letting him support him towards the elevator.

Li Chongge was very strong and didn’t stumble because of it, steadily supporting him all the way into the living room on the twenty-first floor and laying him down on the sofa.

    “Li Chongge.”

Qin Yuanging stared at the ceiling, not looking at him.

Li Chongge looked down at the intoxicated person, and hummed softly.

    “I’m thirsty.”

So Li Chongge turned to pour him some water.

But Qin Yuanging wasn’t being cooperative. Most of the water didn’t go into his mouth, but rather flowed down his chin and into his chest, soaking his entire shirt and faintly revealing the outline of his skin.

Li Chongge averted his gaze, grabbed a blanket from the side, and covered Qin Yuanging completely.

    “Li Chongge, I’m hot.”

Qin Yuanging threw off the blanket, reached out to grab his hand, pulled him down to sit on the sofa, and buried his head in his lap.

Li Chongge’s body stiffened, wanting to push him away, but instead only made him more dissatisfied, and he was hugged tightly around the waist.

“The sofa doesn’t have a pillow, I’m uncomfortable.”

    “I’ll go get you one.”

Qin Yuanging didn’t let go, hugging him even tighter.

    “You be my pillow.”

So Li Chongge sat still, staring at the colorful night scene outside the window, not knowing what he was thinking.
