    Chapter 39: Compensating Him

Li Chongge’s expression wasn’t pleasant. His tone deepened, “Qin Yuanging, repeat what you just said.”

Across the phone, Qin Yuanging forced himself to say again, “I need to go on a business trip… for five days.”

    Li Chongge chuckled in anger.

“So, you called me back, and now you’re going on a business trip yourself?”

Qin Yuanging wanted to cry but had no tears. The decision to go on the business trip was sudden, completely unexpected.

But his sense of responsibility wouldn’t allow him to refuse.

Li Chongge felt a sense of being toyed with, but not quite anger.

He understood Qin Yuanging, and also his meticulousness at work.

“I didn’t do it on purpose. I called you the moment I received the notification… Li Chongge, are you angry?”

    “Yes, a little.”

Actually, it wasn’t that bad, but Li Chongge didn’t want to let it go so easily.

“Then wait for me to come back, and I’ll compensate you?”

Li Chongge’s breathing quickened for a moment, and some thoughts began to run wild again.

“How do you plan to compensate me?”

Qin Yuanging retorted, “What compensation do you want?”

“At least it has to be sincere.”

Li Chongge didn’t like being brushed off by Qin Yuanging, but Qin Yuanging was good at brushing people off.

“I have sincerity in abundance.” Before leaving, Qin Yuanging wanted to see Li Chongge one more time, so he probed, “I forgot to take my pajamas from last night. Could you bring them over? I can wear them at the hotel.”

Li Chongge was busy, but he was still willing to pay for Qin Yuanging’s carelessness.

“Wait for me for an hour.”

Li Chongge, who had a rare day off, resigned himself to getting up, grabbing the pajamas and car keys, and heading downstairs.

Even if Qin Yuanging hadn’t mentioned it, he would have found an excuse to go.

Just as he reached the garage, Li Chongge called Qin Yuanging again.

“Qin Yuanging, what about your luggage? Going on a business trip empty-handed?”

Qin Yuanging softly oh-ed, and said, “Then can you pack it for me and bring it over too?”

Li Chongge hung up the phone and dutifully went back upstairs.

However, he first went to get his own suitcase.

Qin Yuanging leaned back in his office chair, twirling a lighter in his hand.

He realized where the boundary line between him and Li Chongge lay; it seemed to depend entirely on him. And Li Chongge didn’t seem to have his own set of standards.

No matter how presumptuous the request Qin Yuanging made, he would always choose to fulfill it.

Li Chongge stood in Qin Yuanging’s walk-in closet, using his phone to search for the weather forecast for the next five days at his destination, and then carefully packed the clothes into the suitcase.

Actually, Li Chongge wasn’t good at these things, but he always had enough patience when it came to anything concerning Qin Yuanging. He was very willing to do some trivial things for Qin Yuanging in their ordinary days.

An hour and a half later, Li Chongge arrived at Qin Yuanging’s office in Wansheng, carrying the suitcase.

“Huh? I don’t seem to have this suitcase, do I?”

“This is mine. Your suitcase is a bit too big. You don’t have much stuff, so you don’t need it.”

Qin Yuanging kept Li Chongge’s request in mind and didn’t dare say thank you, but instead patted Li Chongge on the shoulder, feigning seriousness.

“Wait for me to come back.”

“Okay, I’ll be waiting for your compensation.”

The place Qin Yuanging was going to on this business trip was quite far, a four-hour drive, so he didn’t dare delay any longer. He took the luggage and set off.

    Secretary Bai reluctantly accompanied him.

When Qin Yuanging checked into the hotel, Secretary Bai showed rare perceptiveness and eagerly offered to help him carry the luggage, but Qin Yuanging didn’t appreciate it and insisted on doing it himself.

Qin Yuanging’s business trip was to represent Wansheng in discussing cooperation with Youxun and Rongxin, so social engagements were naturally unavoidable.

At exactly six o’clock, Rongxin’s car punctually took Qin Yuanging to an extremely luxurious Shanghai cuisine restaurant.

The Qin family was one of the top families in Jing City, and Wansheng was even more well-known, so the young CEO’s scale would naturally not be low.

There were quite a few people from Rongxin and Youxun. Qin Yuanging roughly scanned the room; the large table for twelve was only sparsely missing two or three seats.

This cooperation was one between equals. Neither side was begging the other to do business, so there was no situation of competing in drinking capacity. The overall atmosphere was pretty good.

But out of politeness and respect, alcohol was always unavoidable.

He had only taken a couple of sips when his phone rang.

It was after work hours, so Qin Yuanging guessed if it was Li Chongge calling him.

But he guessed wrong. It was Qin Haoting.

Qin Yuanging stood up and apologized to the crowd with a nod, “Sorry, I have an important call.”

Once outside, Qin Yuanging answered the phone.

    “Dad, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, your mother told me to tell you to drink less alcohol. Xiao Yuan, don’t feel pressured. Currently, Wansheng is the best choice for them, so you don’t need to lower yourself.”

“I know, Dad, you don’t need to worry about me. I’ve negotiated many such collaborations on my own.”

Qin Haoting laughed a few times on the phone.

“That’s what I said too, but your mother insisted that I make this call. You know how she is, very long-winded.”

Although it was a complaining tone, Qin Yuanging could clearly hear the affection in his words.

“Alright, Dad, I won’t talk to you anymore. People are still waiting for me inside.”

Qin Yuanging hung up the phone and turned to go back, but because he was distracted by checking if Li Chongge had sent him a message, he entered the wrong room.

    “Sorry.”

Qin Yuan said, about to retreat, but was stopped by a “Mr. Qin.”

He looked up to see two faces that he had seen but wasn’t very familiar with.

    One was Yang Yanqing.

And the other, was Tang Jingxuan.

Qin Yuanging was a bit surprised to meet the two of them in this place.

And he was even more surprised by the look of pleading for help on Yang Yanqing’s face.

Before Qin Yuanging could leave, a fat, greasy man tried to grab Tang Jingxuan’s wrist. After being dodged, he immediately started cursing.

“Damn, a used-up piece of trash, putting on airs with me? I knew you’d been kept by someone in Jing City. I don’t mind because you still have some looks. You better be sensible and come over here yourself! Or do you think you can walk out of here today? ”

Tang Jingxuan’s face was pale, but he remained silent, desperately protecting Yang Yanqing behind him.

Qin Yuanging frowned and said to Tang Jingxuan, “Come over here.”

Even for the sake of that one encounter, Qin Yuanging wouldn’t ignore Tang Jingxuan.

Yang Yanqing’s eyes lit up, and he quickly pulled Tang Jingxuan to Qin Yuanging’s side.

The people in the room all looked over at Qin Yuanging, their faces unfriendly.

“Oh, Tang Jingxuan, you have quite a few sugar daddies.”

The room burst into laughter, and Tang Jingxuan’s face became extremely ugly.

“I’m taking them away. Please continue with your chat.”

Qin Yuanging said, about to leave, but someone went around from behind and blocked his path.

“They are our guests that we finally invited. Is it too easy for you to just take them away like this?”

Qin Yuanging smiled insincerely and looked down at the ugly thing in front of him contemptuously, “Then what do you want?”

Qin Yuanging had “don’t mess with me” written all over him, but after all, a mighty dragon can’t suppress a local snake.

But those people weren’t so naive that they would just hand someone over simply because of his outstanding aura.

But they still left some room for negotiation.

“Pour each of us a glass of wine, and we’ll let this go. How about it?”

Qin Yuanging smiled and said, “Okay.”

“Mr. Qin, you don’t have to do this!” Tang Jingxuan’s pale, wooden expression finally showed a trace of emotion.

These people weren’t worthy at all!

Qin Yuanging ignored him, took the glass of wine that the person who had stopped him earlier handed over, and then poured it all over his head.

He was extremely arrogant, raising his chin and asking, “This is my way of toasting, but I don’t know if you can accept it?”

    “You’re fucking courting death!”
