Chapter Index

    Illness comes

On the way back, although FP won the third game, Lao Tao still had some thoughts about the performance of the previous players.

After briefly communicating with a few people about the early issues in a friendly manner, Old Tao turned to Lin An.

Lin An still sat in the last row with He Chen. He Chen’s head rested on Lin An’s shoulder, and the side of his face was held in Lin An’s hand.

Catching Lao Tao’s gaze, Lin An made a silent gesture with him.

“No, you fell asleep again?” Fade was simply unbelievable. “If you don’t know, you’d think he was the one who played this game.”

Lin An gave him a warning look.

Qiao Zhi smoothed things over: “You’re a young man, you’re still a college student. I think it’s normal.”

“No…you are talking about someone’s age.”

Lin An looked into Old Tao’s piercing eyes and was speechless. He lowered his voice and said, “…Can you just say what you have to say? Looking at me like that makes me a little scared.”

Lao Tao was resentful of his choice of Isis in the first round. “In that situation, it was not the best solution for you to choose Isis, whom Lay was not familiar with. Why did you choose that way?”

Many players have experienced BP decision-making errors. In fact, no one can be sure that every choice is appropriate until the result of the game comes out.

But that was someone else, and Lin An shouldn’t be subject to this standard.

“…That’s the optimal solution.” Thinking of today’s first game, Lin An’s eyes darkened, and he felt a light touch on his shoulders.

Lao Tao wanted to say something else, but was interrupted.

“In the first game, the three opponents blocked the captain’s role. The top and mid laners were also specially selected players based on the combat characteristics of Venus and Fade.” He Chen woke up at some point and raised his head from Lin An’s shoulders. “In this case, Isis is the only way to break the game.”

“Why must it be Isis?” Qiao Zhi asked.

“Because she is the goddess who symbolizes kingship and life.” Hechen explained, “Isis’s last skill is to sacrifice 80% of her health to resurrect a teammate on the field.”

“If this skill works well with the captain, there is a chance for a comeback. In the end, she failed to play its due role because…”

“Because I died before the captain.” Lay said.

“It’s mine.” He was obviously quite dissatisfied with his performance.

Lao Tao couldn’t be cruel to children who admitted their mistakes before blaming them. “You can’t say that. No one can predict the situation in advance. We all see your efforts.”

“If you lose the first game, you lose.” Lay didn’t make any excuses for himself, “I’ll practice Isis when I get back.”

“It’s not just you.” Lao Tao’s sharp gaze swept across the entire car, “Go back and simulate today’s game again with this lineup, and practice for me until I win.”

    “Ah——”

Fade let out a small scream and didn’t have the nerve to retort.

Several people didn’t even eat when they returned to the base. The tactical analysts in the base had already prepared analysis videos and lineup simulations of the game. Even Coco almost vomited by the end.

“Are you done?” Qiao Zhi poked his head in and felt a little distressed when he saw Fade starting to stretch before he dared to speak out. “When it’s over, I’ll come down for supper.”

This time they were tired from traveling, so Qiao Zhi didn’t order pungent food like crayfish, but ordered delivery from a delicious private restaurant.

“Hey, how did you make this loofah? There’s no fishy smell at all.” Fade said and took another bite.

Venus took it seriously, “This meal isn’t cheap, is it? Manager Qiao spent a lot of money.”

“It’s a small matter. You guys have suffered so much today. Eat something delicious to calm your nerves.” Qiao Zhi gave Fade another chopstick dish. “If you like it, let them deliver it tomorrow.”

Fade performed with tears in his eyes, threw away his chopsticks and rushed to hug someone, “Qiao Qiao——”

“Without you, who else can be so kind to me?”

“Go away,” Qiao Zhi asked him to spit foam on his face, “If you don’t cause trouble, I can live a few more years.”

They were making a fuss over there, and in the corner, Lin An also grabbed the tip of a chopstick for He Chen.

“This is a seasonal dish at his place. The lotus roots that are newly grown in the lake are all taken away by them if they are slow.” Lin An is used to eating at this restaurant and knows what suits Hechen’s taste.

Sure enough, He Chen ate one dish after another according to his recommendations, and they were all his favorites.

“Why did you…” Lin An looked at him chewing and suddenly spoke.

“What?” Hearing him speak, He Chen didn’t care about eating and looked over directly.

There was still a mouthful of rice in his mouth, and his cheeks puffed out like a frightened squirrel.

Lin An chuckled and asked him in a low voice, “Why do you know the reason why I chose Isis? Even Tao Tao didn’t understand.”

He Chen paused his meal and stared at Lin An unblinkingly with his dark eyes.

Lin An’s heart softened, and suddenly he didn’t want to ask anything anymore.

The answer is it doesn’t matter.

But Hechen still gave it to him.

“What about you?” He Chen asked.

    Lin An raised his eyes.

    “Me what?”

“Don’t pretend to be stupid,” He Chen picked up the chopsticks and tapped the lotus root tips in his bowl, “Why do you know my taste?”

    Lin An laughed.

Hechen’s emotions have always been calm, and few people or things can arouse his emotions to be exposed.

But now he looked at Lin An, his eyes could even be called sharp.

“What are you thinking about?” He Chen asked him in a low voice, “I can’t think clearly unless you explain clearly.”

“I…” The emotions in Lin An’s heart seemed to have found a gate. He looked into He Chen’s eyes as if he were looking at water from a deep abyss.

“Keep eating from you, and I’ll tell you something.”

Lao Tao saw that everyone’s eating speed gradually slowed down until they were past the satiety stage, so he began to feel disappointed.

“After two rounds of competition in each group, judging from the points, our record is still remarkable.” Lao Tao first improved and then declined, “But…”

“There are two teams ahead of us in the current standings.”

“In the second round of BO3, we won two and lost one, but so far, there are two teams that have maintained a record of undefeated victory.”

“Who is it?” Fade said quickly, “It can’t be Tale, right? If so, I won’t sleep today and will train all night.”

Lao Tao shook his head, “I’m afraid there will be a big reshuffle in the domestic competition this year.”

The other two teams that have maintained a complete victory – HAH, and GND, who are at odds with each other.

Lao Tao looked at Fade as if he hated iron, “Although it’s not the Tale you expected, I still recommend that you adjust your fighting mentality and extend the training time appropriately.”

Hechen felt full all of a sudden when he heard GND.

He didn’t care about what he was saying to Lin An, “I went upstairs to train.”

“I’ll go too.” Coco licked her lips. She was full and chased He Chen upstairs.

Lao Tao was very satisfied with this, “Sure enough, a good team atmosphere requires appropriate pressure… Lin An, what do you see? Are you jealous of others who are willing to work hard?”

Lin An didn’t bother to pay attention to him, stood up directly, and opened a bottle of shaken ice-cold sparkling water towards Lao Tao.

“Fuck…Lin An! The clothes I just changed—”

    Hechen suddenly sneezed.

Coco was sitting next to him and could hear clearly, “Are you cold? You don’t have a cold, do you?”

“No way…” He Chen touched his forehead, which was at normal temperature, “It should be fine.”

Coco took the time to glance at him, “I have a thermometer and cold medicine there. If you feel uncomfortable, come to my room.”

“Perhaps I haven’t slept enough recently.” He Chen was just a little tired and would be fine after just a nap.

After half past one, people in the training room began to leave.

The players competing today have experienced nearly three hours of high-intensity competition, as well as more than three hours of review and simulation training, and are now almost at their limit.

Lao Tao looked at the last remaining He Chen and couldn’t help but sigh, he was still young, his body was really resistant.

“You can’t do this if you’re in good health,” he patted He Chen, “You’ve been working hard today, so go to bed early.”

He Chen checked the time and said, “Thank you, I’ll play two more rounds and then leave. You should also rest early.”

Lao Tao patted him and couldn’t bear it anymore and went back to his room to rest.

Lin An answered the phone and when he came back, there was only one person left in the training room.

The game client was hanging on Hechen’s desktop, but he did not enter the queue.

He shrank into a small ball and lay on the table, his thin shoulders rising and falling regularly under the large team uniform jacket.

As if asleep.Lin An didn’t even notice when he came to the side.

Lin An exited his program and turned off the device.

He Chen lay on the table with his face sideways, his white and thin chin tapped his fingers lightly, and his breathing was as light as feathers falling down——

    A very annoying little guy.

“Go back to sleep.” Lin An was afraid of scaring him, so she just squeezed his shoulder.

But He Chen’s body only twitched slightly and made no further reaction.

“Hechen?” Lin An frowned and reached out to touch his forehead.

The fingertips brushed He Chen’s breath, and Lin An touched the hot flashes in his hand.

My breath was so hot that my forehead felt like an omelette.

He Chen opened his eyes and stared at the snow-white ceiling, dazed for a full minute.

My body feels soft, my bones are hot inside, forget it all.

How did he end up in bed?

Why was Lin An sitting beside his bed with his eyes closed and meditating?

He Chen’s last conscious thought was that he was queuing in the training room. Feeling sleepy, he set the alarm and wanted to take a ten-minute nap before continuing.

    What then?

“…Are you awake?” Lin Anxu held his hand. He was counting the time silently to see how much medicine was left, but when he opened his eyes, he saw He Chen staring straight at the ceiling with a pair of deep black eyes.

“Would you like some water?” Lin An adjusted the position of the intravenous drip so that He Chen’s arm would not be pressed against it.

“…How did I come back?” He Chen’s voice was extremely hoarse, but he accidentally asked what was in his heart.

Lin An laughed angrily when he saw that his fever was almost 40 degrees Celsius and he still cared about it.

“You fainted in the training room, which alarmed Qiao Zhi and Lao Tao. They were so frightened by you that they called 120. After the emergency personnel rescued you, with the entire base watching, the staff carried you back here on a stretcher.” Lin An opened his beautifully shaped thin lips and said words that made people want to die in the gentlest tone.
