Chapter Index

    Free clinic 3

In the new week, all the children in the village went to school in the town, and it suddenly became a lot deserted. As soon as the day dawned, the chickens in each house began to crow, making An Yan sleepless. Looking from the window, he saw that someone was already passing by on the road. It was just past ten past five when he picked up his mobile phone.

The roosters crow outside rose and fell. As soon as I closed my eyes, there were roosters crowing. As soon as I opened my eyes, it became quiet, as if they were in a fight with him.

He simply stopped sleeping and walked along the edge of the field. There were many people with bent backs in the field, all of them working hard.

“Doctor Big Eyes, why do you get up so early?”

It was the person who called An Yan Big Eyes at the entrance of the village last time. She was tanned and busy in the fields. Even if she saw a familiar person talking, she would not be delayed in her work.

“Hello, I can’t sleep and I want to go for a walk.”

The woman laughed and said, “Don’t you young people like to stay up late? If you stay up late, you won’t be able to sleep.”

An Yan was embarrassed to say that he couldn’t sleep because he was disturbed by the chicken, so he could only smile with her and mean it.

    “Yes.”

Anyan walked a long way. The land was like the sky, and it was endless. When he came back, the village chief’s family had already prepared a meal. There were two children missing this time, but the amount of food was still as large as before.

“Dr. An, you haven’t been to the health center in this village yet. Can I take you to see it after dinner?”

Anyan knew what the main purpose of coming here was, which was to check as many people in the village as possible. This was no small project.

If you ask the people in the village to do nothing every day and just wait for inspection, it will definitely not work. You can only ask them to take time to go to the health center after finishing their own things.

    “Okay.”

The health center in the village is not big. There is only one medicine room and three rooms. Each room has three beds. It makes me nervous to stand up and move around. All of this is managed by only one person. He is an old man who is over sixty years old. He has more hair than the director of the hospital, but not as black as him.

“Old doctor, this is the doctor from Ancheng No. 1 Hospital, and he is also the doctor for this free clinic.”

The man known as the old doctor just glanced at him lightly and said nothing. The village chief explained for him: “Dr. An, don’t be surprised. This is because the doctors who came in the past were all experienced people, and they left after less than half a month, so people in our village don’t like him very much.”

An Yan looked at his frightened look and smiled, “I understand.”

“Can I just take a look?”

The old doctor didn’t even raise his head. He just waved his hand and told Anyan to go see it by himself and not to bother him.

The medicine here is very complete and can cure ordinary minor disasters and illnesses, but if you encounter a serious illness, you have to send it to the town.

It only took An Yan five minutes to visit the entire health center. He sat on the sidelines and waited for people to come. No one came until it was about to close at night.

Seeing An Yan so disappointed, the old doctor suddenly interrupted him behind his back: “Why, do you want someone to get sick?”

Anyan stood up and said, “Of course not, I just want to help them check up. This is the purpose of my coming here.”

The old doctor didn’t continue, his thick eyebrows knitted together, and he hurriedly drove him away, “Let’s go, let’s close.”

Anyan walked on the way back without any interest and didn’t even eat dinner.

A week passed quickly, and the children from the town came back in groups. Anyan could count the number of people who checked on two hands. There were hundreds if not thousands of people in the whole village. According to this trend, they might not be able to complete the check in half a year.

There were footsteps outside the door, and the next second someone came in quietly. An Yan thought it was a villager, but when he looked up, he realized it was Pang Yuan. When he saw her, another scent came from the door. An Yan didn’t pay attention. She hadn’t had time to change out of the school uniform she had just returned from.

An Yan raised his eyebrows and said, “Little Pang Yuan, what’s wrong?”

Upon hearing this title, Pang Yuan’s face turned red. She took out the thing hidden behind her, which was a roasted sweet potato wrapped tightly in a plastic bag, still steaming.

An Yan was surprised: “Is this for me?”

The two of them sat in the clinic all afternoon and saw only two people, and they came just to watch the fun.

Anyan didn’t leave the stool until evening. When he came out, he realized that the color on the ground had become heavier and thin and dense rain was falling in the sky.

The old doctor left early today. An Yan rummaged through the clinic and only found an umbrella, so he sent the patient back first, and then returned to the room only to find that half of his body was soaked.

The rain had no tendency to stop, and it kept falling, until a man rushed in from the rain. He was holding an umbrella in his hand, but no part of his body was dry. As soon as he ran in, he lay panting on the table. Seeing this, An Yan hurriedly helped him up. It turned out to be the bald man who came to pick him up last time.

“Dr. An, please help me. Our family Yuanyuan is missing. She often comes to see you. Do you know where she has gone?”

“I didn’t see her today.” An Yan told him truthfully.

The face of the bald head couldn’t tell whether it was rain or tears. Anyan picked up the umbrella and prepared to look for it with him. His eyes were covered with a layer of fog under the rain. Anyan groped to an open space and shouted her name loudly. Only the echo was wandering. When he turned to leave, he heard a faint sound, and Anyan immediately followed the sound.

It was a very big pit, which looked quite deep. The accumulated rainwater in it had already reached the ankles. It must have been dug by the villagers. There were many trees planted next to it. Anyan lay down at the entrance of the hole and saw Pang Yuan clinging to the wall of the cave. The surrounding area became slippery due to the rain, making it impossible to climb up. After An Yan calmed down her emotions, she turned around to find the rope. Pang Yuan cried harder when she couldn’t hear the sound.

The bald head tied the rope to the tree and jumped down without saying a word. Pang Yuan hugged the bald head tightly, her voice drowned out the sound of the rain. The bald head tied the rope around her waist and asked An Yan to pull it on top while he supported it below.

After coming up, Pang Yuan lowered his head in fear, fearing that he would be reprimanded. He looked at his hands scratched by stones with a bald head. He felt very uncomfortable and said, “Dr. An, thank you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been able to find her so quickly. Thank you very much.”

An Yan wiped his hair with a towel and said nonchalantly, “It’s okay. I’ll drink some ginger tea to warm myself up when I get back.”

After the bald head agreed, he still stood there, hesitating to speak, something a little unlike him. Anyan looked at him doubtfully and said, “Is there anything else?”

The bald man bowed nervously to him. An Yan froze on the spot, and it took a long time to help him up.

“Dr. An, I want to apologize to you, because at first I thought you were the same as those people before, so I said a lot of bad things to you behind your back, but now I think you are different from them. I believe you are sincere in doing this, although I don’t know the use of this kind of free clinic. Even if we are diagnosed with the disease, we have no money and can only wait to die, but we can only understand that we can die.”

An Yan didn’t blame him. He just smiled and turned the story over. Seeing how generous he was, the bald man felt even more ashamed and led Pang Yuan away.

The rain lasted for three full days, and the whole village took on a new look. There were more people in the clinics one after another. Except for the elderly and children, there were no major problems with anyone else.
