Chapter Index

    angel

The gentle wind has gradually been sharpened by time, and the air can flow through the fingertips. Those who are afraid of the cold have already put on cotton-padded clothes, and the branches on the street are exposed withered bodies. If you get up early enough in the morning, you can still see the shining frost flowers on the ground.

Even in the cold weather, Shen Luo still did not forget the free-range kitten outside. He would visit it whenever he had time. If he was afraid of the cold weather, he would prepare a thick cotton coat for it and help it fill the nest. When the kitten walked up, it would feel like stepping on snowflakes.

That day, Shen Luo was still calling him on the roadside as usual, but the cat that was supposed to run out the next second was nowhere to be seen. Shen Luo pushed aside the grass that was blocking him, but there was no sign of the cat. Shen Luo shouted twice, but there was still no movement. A feeling of nervousness and fear arose spontaneously, and soon cold sweat emerged from his pores. Shen Luo walked very far along the roadside, almost crying in anxiety.

The discussion at the intersection caught his attention. He pushed away the crowd and looked around. Only a pool of red in the middle of the road caught his eye. Shen Luo slowly approached. The strong smell of blood made Shen Luo subconsciously retching. He suppressed it and found cat hair scattered beside the blood stain. He picked up the blood-stained cat hair with trembling hands.People passing by pulled Shen Luo back, muttering, “Just now, a car ran over a cat. The car drove away without even stopping. I was right next to it and the blood spurted out for a long distance. I felt sorry for the cat, but it didn’t look like a stray. Their family members haven’t been found yet. How pitiful.”

Every time he heard a sentence, Shen Luo’s face turned pale, and his voice trembled as he asked, “Where is that cat now?”

“They were all crushed like that. They must have been thrown into the trash can. I guess even my mother wouldn’t be able to recognize her when she came.” The man pointed in a general direction and left.

Shen Luo was left alone looking at where he was pointing, wanting to run over, but his legs felt like they were filled with lead. His world was so quiet that he could only hear the sound of his shoe soles rubbing against the ground.

    One minute……

    Two minutes……

    Three minutes……

It took a full three minutes to walk to the place that could usually be reached in three steps. Shen Luo didn’t dare to open the lid. The strong smell of blood was accompanied by the stench of the trash can. Even if he got closer for a second, he would throw up in his stomach.

Taking courage, Shen Luo opened the lid, and a stench hit his face. He immediately saw the kitten lying in the garbage. Shen Luo pulled away the garbage covering him. Its body was shriveled than the branches on the roadside. He endured the discomfort in his heart and took the kitten out of the trash can.

The temperature in his arms was only thirty-seven degrees, but it was like an ice cube, unable to hold any heat. His tears could no longer fall, and now he just felt like the world was spinning.

Shen Luo carried it back to its familiar and warm home, then found a suitable place and prepared to bury it in the ground. As soon as he put it down, Shen Luo couldn’t bear it anymore. His legs were weak and he knelt on the ground, holding on with both hands to prevent himself from falling down.

After sorting out his emotions, he used his hands to push away the weeds on the ground and dig out a home for him.The gaps between his fingers were filled with dirt, and he didn’t care even if sharp objects in the dirt cut his hands. Shen Luo’s tears dripped to the ground and seeped into the soil. He was like a zombie, only repeating one action, digging a deep hole and putting it in with its home.

“That way you won’t have trouble finding a home.”

The originally milky-yellow nest had become dirty, and it seemed to be stained with large and small blood stains. Shen Luo did not move next, but just looked at it dreamily, kneeling on the ground, his eyes were like reservoirs, which were about to overflow, and said: “Every time I tell you something unhappy, I am the one who hurts you. Will you blame me? You should blame me. You are a gentle kitten like you who never gives up even if you are abandoned. You will definitely be an angel in your next life.”

Countless frames of their interactions in the past flashed through my mind. I took out the sausages I wanted to feed him from my pocket and put them into his warm home with him. No matter how cold the weather was, there was always a warm place for him to hang out.

“I’m sorry, I should have taken you home, so that you wouldn’t be left alone and nameless. I’m sorry, I’m really sorry…” Shen Luo’s face looked like a tabby cat, with mud and blood stains spread on his cheeks and forehead.

After crying for an unknown amount of time, Shen Luo stood up and left. Many people along the way covered their noses and stayed away. Even he couldn’t stand the smell on his body.

When An Yu saw what he had done to her, she frowned slightly, put down the water glass in her hand and ran over in a hurry.

Shen Luo didn’t let him get close, took a step back and said, “Don’t come over, it’s very dirty.”

An Yu didn’t listen to him. She took the clothes he took off and wiped off the dirt and blood on his face with her hands. She ran her warm hands across his cold cheeks and handed him a warm wet towel. His dirty face quickly returned to its original appearance.

    “Not dirty.”

When Shen Luo came out of the shower, he looked as if he had been seriously ill. His steps were a little shaky, his hands hung weakly by his side, and his lips were dry and white. He did not take the water glass from An Yu’s hand, but said with the last bit of strength: “I’m tired, let’s go rest first.”

Then he entered the room without looking back. An Yu followed him uneasily. As soon as he opened the door a crack, he heard Shen Luo sobbing on the bed. He smothered himself in the quilt and did not dare to cry loudly. An Yu silently withdrew and closed the door for him.

Two hours later, Anyu didn’t hear any sound coming from the house, so he quietly pushed the door open and went in. He wrapped himself tightly, leaving only his head exposed. Anyu didn’t lie down, but sat on the floor he had just mopped, with his arms on the edge of the bed, looking at him silently.

Shen Luo didn’t wake up all night, and An Yu didn’t call him. Instead, he sat on the ground until dawn. When Shen Luo opened his eyes, he saw the profile of An Yu sleeping on the edge of the bed. His eyebrows were high, the bridge of his nose was just right, and his lips were tight for some unknown reason.

Just when Shen Luo was in trance, the person in front of him opened his eyes. An Yu’s eyelashes were drooped, and his eyes were as tired as when he just woke up. He moved his numb legs and did not get up. Shen Luo got out of the bed and pulled him, letting him lie down on the bed and take it easy.

“Don’t you ask me what’s wrong?”

“Is it because of the kitten raised outside?”

“How do you know?” Shen Luo looked at his swollen eyes and pressed his hand on his numb leg. An Yu hissed in pain, and Shen Luo quickly squeezed it gently for him.

An Yu smiled with an “I knew it” look and said, “I guessed it.”

“The guess is so accurate, how do you know about that cat?”

Shen Luo lay down next to him, ready to hear what he had to say. An Yu rubbed her sore eyes and said, “Last time you went to feed it, I bumped into you.”

“You guessed it, it’s that simple!!”

Shen Luo didn’t want to believe that he could guess that yesterday’s embarrassed look was because of the kitten just because he had fed it, so he continued to ask.

“Then when did you see it?”

An Yu pretended to think about this question for a while, then looked into his eyes guiltily and said, “Actually, I know every time you go there.”

Only then did Shen Luo realize that something was wrong. No wonder every time, no matter how late he came back, he never asked a question. It turned out that he already knew what he was doing. Then he grabbed his neck and asked loudly: “You are following me!!”

An Yu immediately raised his hands in surrender, and the smile at the corner of his mouth gradually became wilder. Seeing his angry appearance and swallowing his saliva, Shen Luo clearly felt his Adam’s apple rolling in the palm of his hand, and almost blushed and let go of his hand.

“But what I don’t understand is, since you want to raise it, why don’t you bring it back.” An Yu still doesn’t understand this. Shen Luo seems to like small animals very much, so he doesn’t want to bring it back because he finds it troublesome.

Shen Luo’s mood changed quickly. He was still embarrassed just now, but now his eyebrows instantly lowered and he said, “It’s not that I don’t want to take it back, I’m afraid. I’m afraid that when I return home, which one will come first, it or the accident.”
