TRMLCM Chapter 47
by VolareChapter 47: No Good Morning
Close to eleven o’clock, Cheng Yi finally woke up. Recalling his confession with Shen Chang’an last night and what followed, he was in such a good mood that he couldn’t help but want to roll around on the bed a few times.
Opening his somewhat sleepy eyes, he sat up and stretched, casually reaching for his phone to send a message to Shen Chang’an. However, when he opened the messaging app and looked at the chat interface, he realized that the other person hadn’t sent him a good morning message yet.
The unwavering good morning at around eight o’clock had disappeared?
Is An An still not awake? Or what’s going on?
Cheng Yi frowned slightly, feeling that this was unlikely. Ever since he met the other person, the morning good morning had seemed as regular as an alarm clock, never missing a beat.
Could it be that he was embarrassed by what happened last night?
So he’s too shy to contact me today?
But this idea also felt unrealistic. Cheng Yi didn’t think Shen Chang’an was a thin-skinned person. In any case, the other person’s skin was quite thick in front of him. Cheng Yi didn’t want to guess, so he picked up his phone and typed.
[Cy: An An, good morning]
Then he waited happily.
…
Eleven o’clock, no reply.
Twelve o’clock, still no reply.
One o’clock in the afternoon, three hours had passed.
Cheng Yi had gotten up, washed, and hadn’t even eaten yet. Looking at the screen full of green message bubbles, he felt a chill in his heart.
After waiting for so long, the other person hadn’t sent a single message. His brow furrowed, and his narrow eyes narrowed slightly, a trace of worry flashing in his deep eyes.
He couldn’t help but dial Shen Chang’an’s phone number.
Beep… beep…
A few seconds later, the call connected.
“Hello…?”
A clear, calm voice sounded, carrying a strange hint of fatigue amidst the loud static.
Cheng Yi’s eyes darkened, and after a few seconds, he said, “An An, it’s me.”
The other end seemed to be silent, with only the sound of whistling wind clearly transmitted through the phone. Cheng Yi stood in front of the French windows, watching the traffic outside, and calmly asked, “Are you outside?”
“…Mm, I…”
Shen Chang’an was sitting in the car, surrounded by darkness. Only the bright yellow lights outside illuminated his delicate features. Looking at the slightly open car window, feeling the gust of wind, he held the phone to his other ear, his long eyelashes fluttering gently. He said, “Cheng Yi, I…”
His pale lips trembled several times, but he couldn’t say anything.
Hearing his disjointed words, Cheng Yi’s brow furrowed even tighter. Something must have happened on Shen Chang’an’s end, but he didn’t want to tell him? Why? Were all those heartfelt words from last night just empty promises to Shen Chang’an?
A spark of anger rose in Cheng Yi’s heart, and he couldn’t help but guess wildly. His deep black eyes turned sharp and cold, and a fierce aura emanated from him. He gripped his phone with his slender fingers, and just as he was about to say something, he heard a long, relatively clear sentence from the other end of the phone.
“Something happened at my house, I… I haven’t had time to check messages, and I forgot to contact you… I’m sorry, I’m still on the road… The signal isn’t very good, can you wait for me? I’ll contact you when I get home… okay…”
“Beep, beep, beep…”
The phone hung up directly.
Cheng Yi, completely enraged, didn’t even have time to react before the other end terminated the call.
Cheng Yi stared with wide eyes, his pupils dilated. He looked incredulously at the abruptly disconnected phone, the ferocity around him solidified, still frozen there, his firm and handsome face paired with a blank expression, looking a bit silly at this moment.
…An An, I haven’t said anything yet!!!
I haven’t agreed!!!!
Isn’t my opinion worth asking?
On the other side, Shen Chang’an looked at the phone that had suddenly disconnected due to poor signal. His slender fingers twitched, and he couldn’t help but grip the phone tightly. His brows were tightly furrowed, and a trace of worry flashed in his clear, rippling eyes.
The signal in this tunnel is really bad…
I wonder if Cheng Yi heard what I just said…
“Xiao An, what’s wrong?”
Grandma’s kind voice slowly sounded from the side, interrupting his chaotic thoughts. Shen Chang’an came back to his senses, looked at his grandmother who was quietly taking care of his grandfather, and smiled, shaking his head.
“It’s nothing, just talking to my friend about something.”
He had completed the discharge procedures and taken his grandfather out of the hospital. Originally, he wanted to take him back to the apartment he bought in City C, but his grandfather opened his mouth and spoke anxiously without making a sound. His grandmother carefully looked at his expression and said that his grandfather wanted to go back to his old home.
Helpless, he quickly found a car and a driver, packed up a few things, and set off to return to that quiet little mountain village in his hometown.
He had been busy all morning, and the car had just left the city and was driving on the highway when Cheng Yi called.
He suddenly remembered what he had forgotten to do today and hurriedly told Cheng Yi, but he didn’t expect the signal to be so bad here.
His grandfather had been sick for too long and was very weak. His grandmother had wrapped him up tightly and he was already asleep.
His grandmother was also a little carsick, and she had been feeling uncomfortable just now, but she was trying to endure it and didn’t want to say anything. Shen Chang’an noticed that she was swaying, and her forehead and palms were covered in cold sweat.
He wanted to let her sleep for a while, but his grandmother shook her head, saying she couldn’t sleep. Her eyes were fixed on his grandfather, as if afraid that if she fell asleep, he would lie back in bed and never wake up.
Shen Chang’an had no choice but to lower the window a little, and the fresh air rushed in, making his grandmother feel a little better. Shen Chang’an took out a tissue to wipe the cold sweat from his grandmother’s face, but as soon as he wiped it, his grandmother took the tissue and wiped it herself.
Shen Chang’an couldn’t persuade her, so he had to let go of the tissue and sat aside, quietly watching her wipe away the sweat. Afterwards, she affectionately tucked the blanket around his grandfather.
Ever since his grandfather woke up this morning, his grandmother seemed to have woken up as well, no longer as silent as before, and her spirits were much better.
But looking at his grandfather and grandmother’s increasingly weak and aging bodies…
Shen Chang’an fell silent. It felt as if a huge rock was pressing down on his heart. The emotions in his heart were very heavy, his chest felt tight, and even his breathing became rapid for a moment. A little bit of sweat constantly seeped out of his pale, slender palms.
Someone who normally didn’t get carsick now seemed to be experiencing carsickness. His brain was dizzy, and all his thoughts were in a jumbled mess, impossible to sort out.
The car sped through the tunnel, and a cool breeze blew in through the slightly open window, slightly dispelling the uncontrollable irritability in Shen Chang’an’s heart, but even more irritability constantly welled up from the bottom of his heart.
…
