Chapter 2: Reward is Punishment
“Use justice to land on your forehead,
To land on your hand,
Let the golden freedom
Reflect in your eyes…”
“Huh?”
Cheng Yi sat on the sofa in the living room, leaning back with his eyes slightly closed. His ears twitched slightly, and his originally irritable heart seemed to pause for a second before beating faster. He looked at the phone screen, his finger hovering in the air.
His nerves, long deprived of sleep, were exhausted and tense in his brain, but seemed to loosen for a moment just now.
He seemed to have missed something.
Cheng Yi straightened his back and sat up, his slender fingers tapping the screen and sliding it back to the previous livestream.
Cy entered the livestream.
A notification flashed across the bottom of the public screen. An animation of a snake head with level zero, whose avatar hadn’t even been changed, was inconspicuous among a group of accounts with not very high levels.
A gentle voice, a low melody, and a soft and pleasant sound reached his ears, soothing his impatient and annoyed mood. He couldn’t help but look at the host of the livestream.
A male streamer was playing the guitar and singing.
Cheng Yi’s gaze involuntarily stopped at the mole below the corner of his eye. His deep eyes darkened for a moment, and his Adam’s apple bobbed slightly before he finally looked away after a long while.
In the public screen of the livestream, the audience sent cat emojis to show their support.
“So good!!!”
“Question: Does anyone in the livestream know the name of this song? Please post the name.”
“Cat call, cat call”
“Sisters, I know. The song is called “World’s Center”, it’s a very good song @Cute”
“The PK is one minute away, sisters, please submit tickets for the streamer.”
“”World’s Center” @Cute”
“Okay, thank you sisters, I’ll slip away for a while and be right back, I’ve followed the streamer.”
“Sisters, please submit tickets, don’t let the streamer lose too badly.”
The blue progress bar representing Qiqi’s score of over 50,000 directly suppressed Shen Chang’an’s three thousand red health bar to a small segment, which, upon closer inspection, was probably less than the length of a thumbnail.
Many of the fans who had just started following Shen Chang’an came from Qiqi’s side. They knew that Qiqi’s strength was nothing to worry about, and now they only hoped that this streamer they had just started following wouldn’t lose too badly. Moreover, the little streamer was still singing to them, so of course they had to repay the streamer.
Fans who could afford it naturally sent gifts to Shen Chang’an, but their strength was too insignificant. Qiqi was, after all, a top female streamer, with more than a dozen whales and countless small fans with some strength in her livestream.
This was still the case when many of the whales from Qiqi’s side hadn’t submitted tickets. After all, there was no need to use a bull knife to kill a pig. Qiqi had somewhat controlled her fans, directly telling the big brothers and sisters in her livestream to play it by ear, after all, they were here to make friends.
“Sisters, I’m back.”
“Does everyone have tickets? Submit, submit, submit.”
“Good, good, good.”
The PK time passed in a flash. Shen Chang’an also stopped the last piece of melody. When singing, he was thinking about the music score in his head, and he had to look at the strings from time to time, so his attention was focused on singing, so he didn’t look at the livestream screen on the computer just now.
“Huh?” Shen Chang’an put the guitar on his lap and hugged it, leaned closer and looked at the PK settlement on the computer. The expression that had been managed well finally cracked a corner at this time, and his eyes widened.
Gift special effects were flying on the livestream screen, obscuring the public screen, and it hadn’t all passed yet. He couldn’t see the barrage. A Carnival special effect had just ended, and he was about to look at the barrage when another Carnival special effect rose. Shen Chang’an narrowed his eyes. He had a feeling that something was happening.
“Two hundred and thirty thousand points?” Shen Chang’an looked at the settlement on the stage. His score was 232589, and Qiqi’s was 271090. He was about 30,000 points behind Qiqi on the other side.
This was an unexpected surprise to him.
He knew his own limits. He thought that this PK should be around 10,000 points at most. If he didn’t perform well, he might not even be able to reach 10,000, but 230,000 tickets…
This was something he couldn’t imagine, at least not yet.
The special effects quickly disappeared. He waited for two seconds and there were no other special effects, so he quickly opened the gift list.
“Thank you Cy for the three carnivals, thank you boss, the boss is generous”
“Thank you Lucky for the romantic lover, thank you Lucky”
“Thank you Strawberry Mousse Little Cake for the Porsche, thank you Strawberry”
“Thank you Aquar for the Heart-shaped Bunny, thank you Aquar”
“Thank you for everyone’s gifts, thank you for your support, there are still three minutes left for the fortune bag in the upper left corner, everyone swipe for the badge and draw the fortune bag.”
Shen Chang’an finished reading the thanks, and his mood quickly calmed down. He glanced at the upper right corner. The passerby who sent him the carnival was still in the first place on the list and hadn’t left. He followed the account with level 31, but that person didn’t follow him back.
Could it be from the other side?
He didn’t think much about it, turned on Qiqi’s microphone, Qiqi was still thanking for the gifts, so he didn’t speak, and waited quietly while looking at the barrage from time to time.
“Handsome guy, your family is good, you almost let your family surpass us and lose just now.”
Qiqi finally finished thanking the list and opened the microphone to tease Shen Chang’an. She thought that this game would pass so plainly, but she didn’t expect that the other side suddenly started to score in the last few seconds. If her big brothers and sisters hadn’t been used to guarding the list with one or two carnivals to prevent the other side from stealing the tower, they wouldn’t have been able to react all at once.
“No, no, Sister Qiqi is joking, these are all crowdfunded by the many family members in the livestream. I lost this PK. What does Sister Qiqi want to reward me with?” Shen Chang’an smiled, and his delicate face made it easy for people to feel good.
“Reward?” Qiqi knew that he was changing the subject, and followed suit. She wasn’t angry about this little thing, after all, a tense and exciting PK was more interesting to watch. A PK where the result could be seen at a glance would also make the fans lose their energy.
In the camera, she blinked her big eyes, and her slender eyelashes followed. Her black, round eyes rolled around, and her pretending to be thoughtful looked very cute.
“You can sing, right?” Qiqi stopped her rolling eyes and looked at Shen Chang’an in the screen to ask.
Shen Chang’an nodded, “Yes, I can sing.”
“Okay, then which one are you best at?”
“Um… I know quite a few.”
Qiqi sat up straight, obedient and well-behaved like an sensible little girl from the neighbor’s house. When she smiled, two dimples on her cheeks also showed up. “Okay, then I’ll just say the reward.”
Shen Chang’an thought that she had figured out which song she wanted him to sing, and nodded in agreement, “Tell me.”
Qiqi pouted slightly, her small, white, and tender index finger placed on her mouth, her manicured nails lightly touching her lips, with a sly look in her eyes, she said with a smirk:
“Then you can do a poetry recitation of the song “Pig Pig Hero”.”
“Remember to turn on the accompaniment~”
