    Chapter 111: A Gift’s Sentiment

    Chapter 111: A Gift’s Sentiment

Once inside, the housekeeper brought in the items from the car – gifts that Shen Chang’an had bought for Cheng’s family.

For Cheng Fu, it was a tin of tea leaves. For Qin Yun, a pure white silk scarf. And for Cheng Hua, a chess set.

The gifts weren’t particularly expensive, nor were they from top-tier brands. After all, the Cheng family wasn’t lacking in material possessions. The gifts themselves weren’t important; it was the thought that counted. These were all carefully selected by Shen Chang’an, within his means, after gathering information about their preferences from Cheng Yi.

Qin Yun pulled Shen Chang’an to sit on the sofa, picked up a sandalwood box from the coffee table, placed it on her lap, and opened it. Inside was a familiar black card, the property certificate for a villa in a prime location in the city that Shen Chang’an had heard about, and its transfer agreement.

“It’s our first time meeting, and I didn’t know what you’d like, so I went with something a bit cliché. An An, don’t mind it too much.”

Her gentle voice carried reassurance. She placed the opened box on Shen Chang’an’s lap. The box seemed light, but it actually had some weight to it.

The heavy weight on his lap pulled Shen Chang’an back to reality. He lowered his eyes, pursed his dry lips, and said softly, “Thank you, Sister Qin. I like it very much.”

Qin Yun hadn’t watched his livestreams many times, but she hadn’t expected that the gentle and outgoing man in front of the camera would be so cold and soft in person, like a glutinous white snow skin mooncake.

She was so surprised that she found it somewhat unbelievable.

Cheng Fu, who was on the side, was speechless, “…”

So he was the only one who forgot to prepare a gift?

After lunch, Cheng Fu called Cheng Yi to the study to discuss business matters. Cheng Hua was handling company affairs, while Qin Yun pulled Shen Chang’an to watch TV and chat.

“An An studied at S University before?”

“Yes, I was in the class of ’14, majoring in finance.”

“Then you’re Cheng Yi’s older classmate!”

Qin Yun was surprised by their connection and sighed, “You were in the class of ’14, so you graduated in ’18. Cheng Yi was in the class of ’20. You missed each other by just two years.”

She suddenly remembered something and mentioned casually, “I remember when Ah Hua was studying at S University, Cheng Yi went to visit his older brother there. Ah Hua is even one class ahead of you, so you should have still been at school at that time.”

As one of the best universities in the country, the faculty at S University was undoubtedly excellent. And City S happened to be the main area where their family’s businesses were developing, so both Cheng brothers had initially applied there as their first choice.

Cheng Yi, who was in high school at the time, was still very well-behaved, but he would occasionally run to S University to hang out with his older brother.

Her gaze towards Shen Chang’an carried a hint of regret, but seeing him sitting obediently on the sofa, she suddenly felt relieved.

Maybe their fate hadn’t arrived yet.

Recalling Cheng Yi’s arrogant and rebellious behavior after graduating from high school and becoming an adult, Qin Yun suddenly felt that it was better for them to have met later… At least now Cheng Yi wouldn’t suddenly go crazy and run abroad to do extreme sports.

Shen Chang’an was also a little surprised. He rarely asked Cheng Yi about these things. Cheng Yi would tell him fun stories from the past to make him happy.

Shen Chang’an didn’t have many memories of his college life either. He only remembered being on a routine, going to class, spending time in the library, or working part-time. He had very little time for leisure and entertainment.

It seemed that he hadn’t even finished exploring his own university campus in four years.

Shen Chang’an smiled. He didn’t feel regret.

After all, even if he and Cheng Yi had met in college, he didn’t think he would have been interested in Cheng Yi at that time. His eyes were only focused on academics and money, and he couldn’t see anyone else.

Cheng Yi had already informed his family about Shen Chang’an’s background.

So, skipping over this small episode filled with youthful regret, Qin Yun simply chatted with Shen Chang’an, asking about his hobbies and such. With his obedient attitude, she found him quite interesting.

Shen Chang’an wasn’t as boring and rigid as Cheng Hua, nor as glib as Cheng Yi. He would blush slightly when teased, and his cold and obedient nature was completely different from the cunning Cheng family.

Seeing Shen Chang’an’s shy appearance, her bright eyes flickered. She just asked Shen Chang’an to wait for her for a moment and then gracefully went upstairs.

Seeing her leave and finding themselves alone, Shen Chang’an suddenly breathed a sigh of relief. He reached out and touched his flushed cheeks, feeling a sense of frustration.

He was already so old, so why did he blush so easily in front of Qin Yun?

Shen Chang’an couldn’t understand it. He tried to calm himself down, and as his complexion improved slightly, he heard the sound of shoes on the stairs. He looked up and saw Cheng Yi coming down. His tense heart suddenly relaxed, and he smiled, but a faint, unexplainable sense of loss slipped through him.

    “Why are you here alone?”

Cheng Yi walked over and sat next to him. He casually picked up a strawberry from the plate and fed it to Shen Chang’an, only taking one for himself after Shen Chang’an had eaten his.

After swallowing the strawberry, Shen Chang’an spoke, “Sister Qin went upstairs. She told me to wait for her here.”

Cheng Yi glanced at him, then touched his face and then his own, looking worried. “Why is your face so hot? Do you have a fever?”

“I don’t have a fever.” Shen Chang’an blinked, touched his cheek with the back of his hand, and felt that the temperature wasn’t as high as before, but he was still unsure. He asked Cheng Yi, “Is it really hot?”

Cheng Yi nodded. “Your fair skin makes it very obvious.”

His eyes were dark as he gazed at Shen Chang’an. He asked, “Did my mom do anything to you just now?”

The question was a bit strange. Shen Chang’an shook his head slightly, defending Qin Yun. “No, we just chatted for a while.”

Suddenly, he tightly grasped Cheng Yi’s hand, looked into his eyes, and, suppressing the shyness in his heart, said with some difficulty, “I, I just feel that your mother is… very warm and gentle. I just inexplicably like her closeness.”

His clear eyes were looking at him with confusion and trust. Cheng Yi’s eyes darkened, and he sighed softly in his heart.

He lowered his voice and said gently, “She is also your mother.”

Shen Chang’an’s eyelashes trembled slightly for a moment, and he blinked in confusion. Then, his eyelids slowly lowered, covering his slightly red eyes.

He had an epiphany and suddenly woke up.

The familiarity and unfamiliar tenderness he craved was simply an emotion he hadn’t felt in twenty years.

After being clean for twenty years, even just experiencing that little bit of it that flowed from Cheng Yi…

    Was enough to trigger him.

Cheng Yi put his arm around him without saying anything, waiting for him to slowly digest the complex emotions that were surging within him.

By the time Qin Yun came down from upstairs with something in her hands, Shen Chang’an had mostly returned to normal. He was still leaning against Cheng Yi, simply enjoying the other man’s body heat.

Hearing the footsteps, he quickly pushed Cheng Yi’s arm away and sat up straight.

Cheng Yi looked at him resentfully, his gaze too unrestrained. Shen Chang’an looked at Qin Yun walking over, his ears turning red. He poked Cheng Yi’s waist with his fingertip, glaring at him with still-moist eyes.

Unexpectedly, Cheng Yi didn’t panic at all. Right in front of Qin Yun, he grabbed the hand that was secretly playing tricks on his waist and brazenly placed it on his thigh.

Shen Chang’an’s fair cheeks flushed red. He didn’t struggle anymore, lowering his head and eyes in resignation.

Qin Yun could tell at a glance that Cheng Yi was the one causing trouble, but she didn’t want to interfere with the couple’s little fun. Pretending not to see anything, she sat down on Shen Chang’an’s other side with the item in her hands.

    “Here, try this on.”

Before Shen Chang’an could react to what she was talking about, a jet-green bracelet had already been slipped onto his wrist.

His fingers were slender and his knuckles were distinct, but his frame was only slightly larger than a woman’s, so the jade bracelet went on very easily.

The jet-green color appeared blackish in the room, and was transparent and smooth. The contrast against his fair skin was striking. There was a hazy, androgynous beauty to it.

Qin Yun stroked the slightly cool jade bracelet on his wrist, a hint of nostalgia in her eyes. “This was made by an old craftsman when my mother-in-law was still alive. She had one made for each of the brothers, saying they were for their two granddaughters-in-law.”

She sighed and said with a smile, “The box was kept in the safe for too long and was pressed down, so I only remembered it just now.”

Cheng Yi glanced at the bracelet on his wrist, but his gaze unintentionally moved forward a bit, looking at the somewhat plain diamond ring. He asked casually, “Do you like it?”

“I like it. Thank you, Sister Qin, and thank you, Grandma.”

Shen Chang’an genuinely liked it, and he couldn’t bring himself to refuse.

Although he didn’t know much about expensive things like jade, he could simply feel that the jade used to make the bracelet was of extremely high quality. But now that it was labeled as something he liked, even if he didn’t particularly care for it, he liked it very much.

Ignoring Cheng Yi’s displeased gaze, Qin Yun gently ruffled his hair, saying slowly, “It’s good that you like it. It won’t let his grandma’s good intentions go to waste.”

Sensing her affectionate gesture, Shen Chang’an couldn’t help but shrink away to the side.

Cheng Yi put his arm around him, raising an eyebrow at Qin Yun triumphantly. Just as Qin Yun’s fist was about to harden, Shen Chang’an turned back, his ears red, and lowered his head.

Qin Yun was stunned. She looked at Cheng Yi. Although he was unhappy, he didn’t say anything.

She smiled and lightly touched Shen Chang’an’s soft, short hair with her fingertip, her voice very gentle. “Okay, okay.”
