Chapter 5 Having a Wife Who Cares is Truly Wonderful

Wuming stopped her attack and smiled faintly, “It’s been a long time. I was just testing your martial arts.”

Wuming had not held back her strength, and He Song had nearly had his bones broken. Hearing Wuming’s irresponsible comment, he stared at her with resentment.

“It’s certainly different once you’ve made it big. You have quite the impressive demeanor now.”

Wuming simply smiled without speaking. The more she said, the more likely she was to slip up; she just wanted to get through this.

“Speaking of which, why didn’t you invite the Divine Doctor to your big day? He taught you the art of disguise, and he deserves much of the credit for your current success!”

    The art of disguise?

Wuming regretted letting Xi Ni die too easily. If she had interrogated her before killing her, she wouldn’t have missed out on such a valuable skill.

If she possessed the art of disguise, wouldn’t she be able to switch identities effortlessly? Traveling the jianghu would be incredibly convenient!

“The Divine Doctor is busy with his affairs. How could a great figure like him have time to attend my wedding?”

“True. Only the current Emperor can invite the Divine Doctor out of seclusion. What are we, after all?”

Wuming keenly sensed the bitterness in his tone. Was he jealous of the relationship between Xi Ni and the Divine Doctor?

He clearly knew the Divine Doctor possessed such a valuable skill, and he clearly envied the Divine Doctor’s influence, so why hadn’t he sought out the Divine Doctor himself?

    Was it unwillingness, or inability?

“I still need to rush off for the procession. I’m afraid I don’t have time to catch up. Why don’t you leave me your address, and I’ll visit you another day?”

“Good!” He Song readily gave Wuming the name of the inn where he was staying, holding nothing back.

Wuming patted his shoulder in satisfaction, “Good brother, I’ll come find you after I’m done with my duties.”…To send you on your way.

If he knew that Xi Ni had obtained the art of disguise through the Divine Doctor, their relationship couldn’t have been too distant. If he calmed down and thought about it, he could easily detect that something was wrong with Wuming.

Wuming didn’t want anyone to discover that she had killed Xi Ni, as that would lead to endless trouble. Therefore, it was best if he died as silently as Xi Ni had.

He Song squeezed his shoulder. Wuming’s pat had been light, but given their recent fight, that gentle tap was genuinely painful for him.

He stared darkly at Wuming’s retreating back.

“Hmph, so what if you managed to sculpt an androgynous face? Would the Eldest Young Miss of the Hou Manor even look at you without that face? I will expose your true colors sooner or later!”

Wuming’s procession was grand and ostentatious. The Hou Manor was extremely generous, scattering flower petals and lucky money all over the streets, and the faces of the onlookers were all wreathed in smiles.

The lively atmosphere made Wuming briefly forget her worries. Now that things had progressed this far, the fake marriage was indistinguishable from a real one. Today was her big day.

On a big day, one should naturally be happy.

Wuming rode out from the Hou Manor, circled the area, and then returned to welcome Hou Danxue.

Hou Danxue was dressed in full wedding attire, and Wuming found the sight refreshing.

Hou Danxue usually preferred plain colors, making her seem like snow. Now, the vibrant red she wore made her look like rouge-colored snow.

Wuming lifted Hou Danxue and carried her into the sedan chair.

Wuming’s mouth suddenly pressed close to Hou Danxue’s ear. Hou Danxue thought she was about to say something sweet, but Wuming merely asked, “Do you know the Divine Doctor?”

“The Divine Doctor? I’ve only heard that the Emperor invited the Divine Doctor years ago to extend his life.”

“That must be the person! Do you have any other information?”

Wuming wanted to ask more, but music started playing around them. The procession was about to move again, forcing Wuming to duck out of the sedan chair.

She rode around the Hou Manor once more before returning to the estate.

The number of people coming and going had noticeably increased, with guests from all corners of the land gathering here.

Wuming secretly heightened her vigilance, fearing she might run into another acquaintance of Xi Ni. Fortunately, she did not.

With so many people watching them, she couldn’t continue discussing the Divine Doctor with Hou Danxue and proceeded through the wedding rituals properly.

Hou Danxue retired to her room afterward, but Wuming could not. As the man who had entered into a Matrilocal Marriage, she had to stay and socialize with the guests.

To end the event quickly, Wuming simply grabbed a wine pot and started toasting everyone.

It was just drinking, wasn’t it? She was naturally good at holding her liquor and never got drunk, no matter how much she drank.

Her public identity was that of a jianghu member; what was wrong with being a little unrestrained? It didn’t break her persona at all.

Wuming’s actions roused the competitive spirit of the crowd, and they began to drink wildly, quickly knocking out a large number of people. The banquet soon drew to a close.

With a smile, Wuming entered the inner courtyard under the gaze of the crowd. No one would suspect her true intentions.

A groom eager for his wedding night—how perfectly normal.

Wuming walked into Hou Danxue’s room and lifted her head covering.

    “You’re back so soon?”

“Yes, I need to go kill someone soon. I’m in a hurry.”

Hou Danxue’s expression cracked for a moment, “Kill someone? On our wedding day, you’re going to kill someone?”

“The wedding night is the best alibi.”

“Who are you going to kill?”

“An old acquaintance of Xi Ni came to the wedding. He’ll probably guess that I’m an imposter.”

“So what if you’re fake? As long as the benefits offered are sufficient, a fake can become real. You don’t need to worry about this.”

Wuming couldn’t take it so lightly. A blood feud concerning life and death wasn’t so easily dismissed.

Hou Danxue only knew she was impersonating Xi Ni, but she didn’t know she had killed Xi Ni. This matter was far more serious than she imagined.

“That person seems ill-intentioned. What if he exposes this before we’ve settled down? Won’t that cause you trouble?”

Hou Danxue watched as Wuming changed out of her wedding attire into black clothes. She was serious.

“Wait, since you want to kill him without a trace, taking action will always leave marks. Why not use poison?”

Hou Danxue stood up and dragged a small box out from under the bed.

Wuming watched her open the box, which was filled with various sizes of medicine bottles.

Without any hesitation, she took out a bottle and handed it to Wuming, “The effect of this poison makes it look like death by excessive drinking.”

    Truly… inherited family expertise.

Wuming felt a chill rise inexplicably from the bottom of her heart. Her seemingly innocent wife was actually a master of poison!

Did she truly need saving? Was this alliance necessary?

Could it be… that she valued Wuming herself more? Had she fallen in love with her at first sight?

Wuming couldn’t help but let the corners of her mouth curl up. She cleared her throat twice, trying to suppress her smile.

“You won’t poison yourself like your mother, will you? I don’t want a wife who dies young.”

    “Don’t worry! I won’t!”

“Go and come back quickly.” Her voice was muffled.

Wuming took the medicine bottle, completely unaware of the implications, and slipped out the window. Hou Danxue watched her figure merge into the darkness.

She clenched the red wedding dress, “On our wedding night… you just wait. I will certainly make you pay me back!”

Wuming easily found the inn He Song had mentioned and hid in the rafters, waiting for him to return.

He Song stumbled drunkenly as he pushed open the door. As soon as he entered, Wuming dropped down from above and closed the door.

“Xi Ni? Why do you have time to see me now?”

    “You’re jealous of me.”

“Yes! Haha! I am jealous of you!”

Their subtle relationship was exposed by Wuming, and the emotions He Song had suppressed in his heart completely erupted.

“Why? We were all the same originally! You went to Luomu Valley and gained an incredible opportunity! Now you’ve even used that fake face to become the son-in-law of the immensely wealthy Hou Family!”

“If you were so jealous, why didn’t you go to Luomu Valley?”

“Heh! So many people seek medical help in Luomu Valley, but only a handful walk out alive. If you had told me the secret of Luomu Valley, I would have gone long ago! With our kind of friendship, you weren’t even willing to tell me the secret of Luomu Valley!”

It seemed he only knew this much.

Wuming said nothing, directly pinching his chin and pouring the entire bottle of poison Hou Danxue had given her down his throat.

He convulsed on the ground for a while, then fell still.

    This poison was truly effective.

Wuming circled the corpse. It certainly looked convincing, and she wouldn’t have to deal with the body.

Otherwise, if she had broken his neck, the discovery of the body would clearly point to murder, and she would have had to dispose of the corpse.

Having a wife who cares is truly wonderful.

With the matter easily resolved, Wuming returned to the room in a cheerful mood. She embraced Hou Danxue, but Hou Danxue pushed her away.

“You reek of blood, I don’t want you to hug me!”

    ??

Where had she gotten blood on her? Thanks to the poison provided by Hou Danxue, not a single drop of blood had been spilled when the man died!

    “Let’s wash up together…”

To maintain Wuming’s alibi, Hou Danxue hadn’t dared to let anyone in. Now, there was no water in the bath for her to wash.

“No, now is not the time to call for water!”

The bed curtains were semi-transparent. If maids or wet nurses passed by, they would surely see the situation on the bed.

“I’ll go change into a simple robe.”

Hou Danxue bit her lip tightly. She had changed her clothes, but she was still fully dressed and neat. It looked strange no matter how one viewed it.

The servants… would definitely think she was ferocious, a weak and pitiful woman who dominated her highly skilled martial arts partner.

As Wuming changed, her peripheral vision caught sight of the bed, “Why did you spread white strips of cloth on the red bedsheet? It looks so inauspicious!”

“That’s for catching the fallen red.”

    “Fallen red?”

“Yes. When the time comes, you can use your finger to help me.”

Wuming’s face flushed, and she suddenly felt a little warm.

    Her finger?

    She looked at her hand.

She practiced Palm Technique; her hands were her weapons of attack.

Now, to use a weapon for such a tender act—would she really not hurt Hou Danxue?

“If you’re willing, using yours isn’t out of the question either. Anyway, it all looks the same.”

Hou Danxue suddenly leaned closer. Wuming’s robe was loose, and Hou Danxue’s hand slipped right inside.

“Hmph, now you don’t mind that I just killed someone…”

“You have the nerve to mention it! Abandoning me on our wedding night—I still need to settle the score with you! Tell me, how are you going to compensate me?”

“I will do whatever Young Miss asks. I will make sure Young Miss is satisfied tonight. Will that suffice?”

    “You promised that yourself!”

Hou Danxue’s smile was too bright, making Wuming feel uneasy.

She suppressed the apprehension in her heart.

Young Miss was just a delicate girl who only knew how to use poison. Wuming was a martial artist with a strong physique. What could she possibly do to torment her?
