Chapter 64: The Style of Intimacy

After a brief moment of pain, Tuntun quieted down again. Lu Shangyan didn’t think much of it and continued replying to their messages.

[Jian Fugui (Must Be My Godfather): Are you really sure you’re okay?]

He was still bothered by the previous incident. He had been about to go home, but he was afraid that if Lu Shangyan was truly locked up and called for help, he wouldn’t be able to reach him immediately.

Zhao Jian initially said he was overthinking things, but later, when Lu Shangyan showed no signs of activity, he also started to feel uncertain.

After all, from the moment he first met Pei Yumin, he felt that Pei Yumin was definitely not as harmless as he appeared on the surface.

[S: How could anything happen? It really was just a small misunderstanding.]

[S: But thank you for your concern. When you come to the hospital tomorrow, I’ll treat you to a meal.]

[Jian Fugui (Must Be My Godfather): Eating at the hospital?]

[S: Of course not, but I can’t go too far from the hospital. You can check if there’s anything you want to eat nearby.]

[Jian Fugui (Must Be My Godfather): You’re paying?]

Lu Shangyan thought for a moment, typed out an “I,” and quickly deleted it.

[S: Pei Yumin is paying. You can eat whatever you want.]

[Jian Fugui (Must Be My Godfather): Then I’m going to fleece him mercilessly!]

He had to find a way to vent this frustration, or he wouldn’t feel comfortable.

When they came to the hospital last time, Xia Li was supposed to come along too.

But she was temporarily called back to school for manual labor and was completely unaware of the recent events. Seeing the messages in the group chat today made her feel utterly confused.

[Sugar-Roasted Chestnuts (Future Godmother Edition): What’s going on? What have you all been hiding from me?]

[S: Nothing much. Are you free tomorrow?]

He wanted to quickly move past this topic.

[Jian Fugui (Must Be My Godfather): I’ll tell you privately!]

Lu Shangyan sighed helplessly, hoping that when they arrived tomorrow, this matter wouldn’t be brought up again.

    —

After Lu Shangyan finished dinner that evening, Pei Yumin washed the dishes and warmed his hands before going back to massage him. Lu Shangyan was served comfortably, leaning back on the bed, unable to resist closing his eyes and stretching his legs into Pei Yumin’s palms.

He stared at Pei Yumin’s profile for a while and couldn’t help but ask, “Who do you think they will look like?”

Pei Yumin paused his movements and countered, “Who do you hope he looks like?”

Lu Shangyan tilted his head, still looking at him. “I hope his eyes are like yours.”

Pei Yumin was stunned. This time, he truly didn’t understand why Lu Shangyan would say that.

Lu Shangyan lay down a little further. “Because I think your eyes are very clean.”

If possible, he hoped Tuntun could also be this pure in the future, undisturbed by external voices, and not face too many setbacks during his growth.

Pei Yumin thought about it. He suddenly recalled that when he was little, Yuan Qingyu also said that no matter how big a mistake he made, every time he looked up at her, she couldn’t bear to hit him when she looked into his eyes. But that was when he was very young.

Now that he had grown up and changed a lot, Yuan Qingyu had never said such a thing again. But he hadn’t expected that now, almost thirty years old, he would hear that sentence from Lu Shangyan again.

Pei Yumin pinched his ankle. “It’s better if he looks like you. Your eyes are more beautiful.”

They always managed to evoke his protective instincts.

If Tuntun looked more like Lu Shangyan, perhaps he would be willing to like Tuntun a little more.

However, no matter how similar Tuntun looked, he couldn’t divide his love for Lu Shangyan and give it to him.

Lu Shangyan didn’t reply after hearing him, wanting him to continue explaining his reasons, but Pei Yumin was unwilling to say more.

Lu Shangyan moved his calves a few times, trying to prompt him, but Pei Yumin only understood the hint and remained silent this time.

After the massage, Pei Yumin covered his legs with the blanket and patted them. “Tuntun is about to be born anyway. We’ll know what he looks like soon.”

When he returned with a hot towel to apply heat to Lu Shangyan, he noticed Lu Shangyan looked listless.

He brushed the hair from Lu Shangyan’s forehead. “What’s wrong?”

Lu Shangyan was unusually dependent on him today, even without realizing it himself. When he felt Pei Yumin’s hand on his forehead, he couldn’t help but rub against his palm before speaking. “I’m a little nervous, actually.”

Pei Yumin acknowledged him, unbuttoned the top of his shirt, placed the hot towel on his chest, and signaled him to continue.

Lu Shangyan said, “I’m scared of the surgery.”

He had endured so much hardship and so many injuries since childhood, so Pei Yumin knew he wasn’t afraid of the surgery itself, but afraid that the results wouldn’t be satisfactory.

Pei Yumin didn’t leave. He held his hand and sat by the bed. “Uncle Wu said you will definitely be safe and sound.”

Lu Shangyan asked again, “What about Tuntun?”

Pei Yumin rubbed his palm. “He will also be safe and sound.”

Lu Shangyan closed his eyes and said nothing more.

That night, both of them were preoccupied with their thoughts. Lu Shangyan lay on his side, embraced by Pei Yumin. With Pei Yumin’s heartbeat sounding behind him, he counted the beats and slowly closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Pei Yumin, however, slept restlessly, and Tuntun also became restless.

Tuntun would kick from time to time. Pei Yumin kept his hand on Lu Shangyan’s belly, and when he sensed movement, he would immediately wake up. Seeing Lu Shangyan frown, he would instantly get up to soothe Tuntun, and then soothe Lu Shangyan.

Lu Shangyan didn’t sleep soundly in the latter half of the night either, tossing and turning until he was covered in sweat. Pei Yumin had to fetch a towel to wipe him down. It wasn’t until past four in the morning that he could finally lie down and get some proper sleep.

When Lu Shangyan opened his eyes, it was already past ten. He turned over and bit his teeth against the pain.

Pei Yumin immediately jumped out of bed, his face full of worry. “What’s wrong?!”

Lu Shangyan groaned and turned over again. “My leg! It cramped!”

This was the first time his leg had cramped during his pregnancy, completely different from his usual condition. The pain was so intense he felt like he might pass out.

Pei Yumin exhaled a breath. Hearing this, his mind finally cleared a little, and he started massaging him.

Lu Shangyan’s face was flushed from the pain. It took a long time before he finally recovered. He had originally wanted to get up quickly and wash up, but now he truly didn’t dare to move, afraid that if he wasn’t careful, the other leg would cramp next.

He definitely didn’t want to experience that feeling again.

He was lying in bed sighing when Jian Guo and Xia Li peeked through the doorway. Jian Guo looked alert. Seeing Pei Yumin, he couldn’t help but shrink his neck, but then he saw Lu Shangyan lying on the bed, frowning and looking pained. He immediately straightened up, rushed in quickly, and looked ready to confront Pei Yumin.

Xia Li tried to stop him several times but failed.

Lu Shangyan saw his posture and immediately understood what he was about to do, but spoke before him. “My leg just cramped. Sorry, I can’t get up right now. Let me lie down a little longer.”

Jian Guo’s rising anger immediately subsided. A wisp of smoke seemed to rise from his head, but no firecrackers went off.

Xia Li stood behind him, pressing her lips together to forcefully suppress a smile.

Pei Yumin had planned to leave once they arrived, but seeing how uncomfortable Lu Shangyan looked after the leg cramp, he hesitated again. He was afraid no one would look after Lu Shangyan if he left.

Lu Shangyan gave him a reassuring look. “You should go quickly.”

Pei Yumin still stood there, unwilling to move. Lu Shangyan had no choice but to say, “Go call the nursing attendant over before you leave, okay?”

Pei Yumin reluctantly nodded. Since he had promised Lu Shangyan yesterday, if he didn’t go to the mall today, it would definitely dampen Lu Shangyan’s spirits, and he didn’t want to see Lu Shangyan’s disappointed expression.

So, he waited until Lu Shangyan’s leg felt better, helped him put on a thick coat, assisted him to the bathroom to wash up, and set out the still-warm food before finally preparing to leave.

Before leaving, he repeatedly instructed Xia Li that if she noticed anything wrong with Lu Shangyan, she must immediately notify the doctor. “Lu Shangyan likes to tough things out. Don’t listen to him.”

Xia Li stood there stiffly, only nodding.

Jian Guo watched his retreating figure, looking displeased. “Why didn’t he tell me? Is he feeling guilty talking to me?”

Xia Li smiled. “It’s because he thinks you’re unreliable and tend to get emotional, losing your judgment.”

Jian Guo opened his mouth but couldn’t find a retort.

After the nursing attendant arrived, she went to sit in the living area so as not to disturb their conversation.

Lu Shangyan saw that although Jian Guo looked disgruntled, he thankfully didn’t bring up the matter Lu Shangyan didn’t want mentioned.

He breathed a sigh of relief and proactively asked Jian Guo, “Where is Zhao Jian? Didn’t he say he was coming with you?”

Given the opening, Jian Guo spoke. “We agreed last night to meet at the hospital entrance, but neither Xia Li nor I saw him when we arrived. When we first called, he said he’d be here soon, but we waited for a full half hour, and he didn’t show up. When we called again, he didn’t answer.”

As he spoke, he took out his phone and found his chat with Zhao Jian. “He didn’t answer the call but sent a message telling us to come up first and that he’d arrive later.”

Lu Shangyan felt that Zhao Jian was the most reliable among them. This behavior today was too unusual.

Lu Shangyan couldn’t help but take out his phone and call Zhao Jian. The call still went unanswered.

Xia Li glanced at him. “Try again later. Maybe he really is busy.”

Lu Shangyan had doubts, but there was nothing he could do now but wait. If he still couldn’t reach Zhao Jian later, he would have to think of another way.

Pei Yumin seemed to have timed it perfectly with his meal. Just as he wiped his mouth clean, a video call came in. Lu Shangyan propped the tablet on the table, with Xia Li and Jian Guo sitting on either side.

Xia Li found every little piece of baby clothing adorable. Influenced by her, Lu Shangyan unconsciously bought a lot until he realized that Pei Yumin could barely carry everything in his hands, and then he stopped.

Pei Yumin realized Lu Shangyan’s interest hadn’t completely waned, so he called people to help, finding several assistants to carry the items for him.

Xia Li even commented, “Lu Shangyan, your CEO Pei is so handsome.”

Jian Guo snorted. “The CEO who massacres baby stores—he’s probably the first.”

Lu Shangyan pointed to his belly. “Then what am I? The first male college student to give birth?”

Xia Li laughed out loud. “You’re the first male CEO’s wife who can give birth.”

Jian Guo was so annoyed he laughed too, rolling his eyes at both of them. “Are you even my friends? You two are ganging up on me.”

Lu Shangyan knew Jian Guo’s anger came and went quickly. He patted his shoulder and said, “There are a few luxury brand stores downstairs from the baby store.”

Since he got to know Jian Guo and Zhao Jian, he had learned about many brands he never would have known before. He had just glanced at them while passing by the baby store last time and remembered them.

Jian Guo’s eyes immediately lit up. “Are you saying?”

Lu Shangyan said, “I’ve been investing with Pei Yumin recently and made some money. Ask for whatever you want.”

Pei Yumin stopped in his tracks upon hearing this, staring at Lu Shangyan across the screen with a look of sorrow. “Wife, you haven’t given me a gift in ages!”

Lu Shangyan leaned closer to the screen and whispered, “I’ll buy you the most expensive one later.”

Jian Guo also lowered his voice like him. “Actually, we can hear everything you say.”

Lu Shangyan knew they could hear, but so what? Pei Yumin was indeed a unique presence in his heart now.

Pei Yumin immediately cheered up. “Alright, don’t worry, Wife. I won’t let you go bankrupt.”

Jian Guo made several “tsk tsk tsk” sounds, rubbing his arms and shivering. “Wife~ Wife~~ Wife~~~”

“Oh my god, that’s so cheesy! Lu Shangyan, you’ve changed, you’ve really changed! Do you remember back in school, you were the ‘High Mountain Flower’ that everyone was afraid to approach, the cold male god in countless people’s hearts? Even though I lived in the same dorm as you for so long, I didn’t dare to talk to you much.”

“But look at you now, you’re always giving him a happy smile. That look is truly sickening! Half a year ago, you could have beaten me to death, and I wouldn’t have believed you’d be coaxing CEO Pei, who’s almost thirty, like a child!”

“Look at how you reacted just now when he called you ‘Wife.’ My goodness, do you call him ‘Husband’ even sweeter than he calls you ‘Wife’ in places we don’t know about?”

Lu Shangyan’s earlobes turned red. If it were before, he would definitely try to refute or cover it up, but after everything he and Pei Yumin had been through, he no longer wanted to argue or hide.

So, he tried his best to look composed. “We’re married. Is there a problem with calling each other that?”

Jian Guo made a “disgusted face,” clearly uncomfortable. He couldn’t take it anymore and stood up, pacing around the table and sofa several times before finally calming down. “Lu Shangyan, I misjudged you!”

As soon as he finished speaking, Pei Yumin on the other side of the screen spoke again. “Wife~~~” He drew out the sound with several inflections, even more exaggerated than before. It was obvious he was doing it on purpose!

Lu Shangyan gave him a look of distaste, reminding him that enough was enough.

But when Pei Yumin received the signal, he instead said, “Wife, I’m so embarrassed. I’m still outside, and you’re giving me such flirtatious looks. It’s not good if others see.”

The expression on Lu Shangyan’s face instantly vanished. He looked at Pei Yumin like a mannequin, afraid that any extra expression would be “misinterpreted” by Pei Yumin again.

Pei Yumin still felt unsatisfied. He leaned on the railing, twisting his body, moving his legs and waist in a very delicate and affected manner. “Wife, what else do you want to buy later?”

Xia Li covered her mouth, bending over, her fingers digging into the sofa. She simply said, “You found a gem of a man. Lu Shangyan, you’re so lucky.”

Lu Shangyan completely broke down, letting out a burst of laughter. “I think so too.”

Because when he saw Pei Yumin twisting his waist while leaning on the railing, several people walking past looked at Pei Yumin with the eyes one reserves for a “patient.”

One woman even forcefully pulled her daughter, moving half a meter to the side. The child was dragged on the floor, but the mother didn’t dare to stop until they were five meters away, finally pausing their steps.

Pei Yumin was oblivious to all this. “Wife, why aren’t you answering my question?”

Jian Guo was also disgusted. “That’s enough! I know you two are very loving, alright?!”

Pei Yumin proudly lifted his chin. “You should have known that a long time ago.”

Jian Guo curled his lip in distaste. Lu Shangyan saw Pei Yumin continue walking and said, “Where is the toy section? I want to pick out a few small plushies for Tuntun.”

Pei Yumin looked around, then accurately walked into the toy store. “There are many. Take your time looking.”

He paused for more than ten seconds in front of every small plushie, trying his best to let Lu Shangyan see every detail clearly.

Lu Shangyan didn’t feel like time was passing quickly while sitting there. Only when the door was pushed open did he realize that Pei Yumin had been on a video call with him for almost three hours.

Yuan Qingyu came over for a look, didn’t disturb them, and then went out with the food to talk to the nursing attendant.

Lu Shangyan asked Pei Yumin if he was tired, but Pei Yumin denied it. “Not tired. How big is this mall anyway?”

Jian Guo remarked leisurely from the side, “Then when your child grows up, you can give him an even bigger mall.”

Lu Shangyan frowned, feeling something was amiss. “Did you also secretly read Pei Yumin’s CEO novels?”

Pei Yumin said, “That’s literature. I learned a lot about love from it.”

Lu Shangyan didn’t want to hear him continue. “That little white fluff ball is so cute.”

Pei Yumin didn’t even think, taking it directly from the shelf. “Do you have a new one of this?”

The saleslady quickly said yes and turned to fetch it for him. Pei Yumin continued walking. Lu Shangyan was afraid he was too tired, so he said it was enough and told him to come back to eat first.

Tuntun wouldn’t be born for another two weeks anyway. If he wanted to buy anything else, there was still time.

Pei Yumin didn’t refuse him but didn’t want to hang up the phone either. Lu Shangyan was about to hang up himself when Jian Guo reacted first. “There’s something more important you haven’t bought yet.”

This time, Pei Yumin and Jian Guo were on the same page. Pei Yumin seized the excuse not to hang up and kept staring at Lu Shangyan. “Wife, you said you were going to buy me the most expensive gift, but you haven’t bought it yet.”

Lu Shangyan had no choice but to tell him to hurry downstairs. After three or four hours of continuous activity, Lu Shangyan had noticed Pei Yumin’s complexion wasn’t great when he left, so he knew Pei Yumin hadn’t slept well last night.

He planned to have Pei Yumin take a nap with him in the afternoon to catch up on sleep when he returned.

Jian Guo picked out a bracelet that cost over a thousand yuan. Pei Yumin looked smug. “I’m going to buy one ten times more expensive than yours later!”

Xia Li felt too embarrassed to choose. She had already received a very expensive wallet. In the end, Lu Shangyan proactively helped her pick one out, also a bracelet, similar in price to Jian Guo’s.

Xia Li still didn’t want it. Lu Shangyan had given her so many expensive things, and she didn’t know how to repay him.

Lu Shangyan didn’t mind. “You guys helped me a lot before. This amount of money is truly nothing to me now.”

Pei Yumin also said, “Don’t worry about it. He’s quite rich lately. Besides, after Tuntun is born, he definitely won’t be able to stay at school all the time like before.”

Jian Guo understood. “So you’re trying to butter us up now, thinking that if something happens at school in the future, you want us to cover for you.”

Xia Li stopped refusing this time, thinking that accepting the gift would put Lu Shangyan at ease.

Jian Guo also said, “When Tuntun is born, I’ll definitely give you a big red envelope.”

Xia Li thought the same. They were friends, and constantly refusing would only make things awkward.

Pei Yumin browsed for a while and chose a watch. “I want this one.”

Lu Shangyan looked at the price, his eyes rolling back, almost fainting—over two hundred thousand!

“Pei Yumin, if you dare to buy that, the study room in the new house is gone.”

When Pei Yumin heard this, he stood in front of the counter, silent, but didn’t leave. He just looked at the watch, then looked at Lu Shangyan.

Finally, Lu Shangyan resigned himself. “If you really like it, buy it.”

After all, his one million had turned into over three million, thanks in no small part to Pei Yumin’s efforts. Spending over two hundred thousand on Pei Yumin was acceptable.

The saleslady wanted to recommend the watch model he usually wore, the cheapest of which cost over two million, but seeing that he showed no interest and was only smiling with his eyes curved at the two hundred thousand watch, she temporarily gave up.

Pei Yumin took several photos with the watch on his wrist. Before even returning to the hospital, he couldn’t resist posting on his Moments.

[M: New gift from my wife. Love it!]

The comment section was full of congratulations and flattery.

    [Jian Fugui: Disdain/Disdain]

[Sweet Little Orange: Oh, how did you know my wife just gave me a custom set two days ago? Are you copying me because you saw the gift I received?]

[M replied to Jian Fugui: Thank you for the blessing/Smile]

[M has blocked Sweet Little Orange]

[Jian Fugui replied to M: May your shamelessness grow thicker]

[S: Can you stop doing that?]

    [M replied to S: Wife~ Love you, touched/Tears]

Lu Shangyan gritted his teeth and deleted the comment.

After Pei Yumin returned, the hospital room was instantly filled with various shopping bags. Lu Shangyan hadn’t realized he had bought so many things unconsciously. When he stood up, he didn’t know where to step to walk forward.

Pei Yumin told him, “I also bought a small gift for you. I’ll secretly show it to you after they leave.”

After saying that, he mysteriously pinched Lu Shangyan’s earlobe, his tone very ambiguous. “I turned back to buy it just before returning. I guarantee you’ll love it.”

Lu Shangyan looked down and happened to see the lace edge peeking out of the bag Pei Yumin was holding.

A voice in his head told him he had seen this item before, and Pei Yumin had tried to sell it to him, only to be rejected once.

This time, he refused without hesitation. “I don’t want it!”

Pei Yumin pretended not to hear and spoke to himself. “You haven’t even tried it on. How do you know if it suits you?”

“Try it on later and let me see the effect. If it fits, we’ll keep it, and I’ll go buy you a few new ones.”

Lu Shangyan lowered his voice, wishing he could bite him. “But you can’t buy such intimate styles!”

    Note
