    Chapter 55 Tonight… Hehehe

Lu Shangyan maintained a calm facade, but in reality, the hand hidden beneath the table was trembling. This was the first time he had actively acknowledged his relationship with Pei Yumin, especially concerning their marriage.

Xia Li looked at the ring on his finger, staring for a long time without reacting. Lu Shangyan was intensely nervous, afraid of their reaction, and even more afraid if they had no reaction at all.

Xia Li slowly covered her mouth, a look of horror spreading across her face. She barely managed to suppress a scream: “What?!”

Jian Guo gasped heavily. He couldn’t remain composed either: “Your progress is a little too fast, isn’t it?”

Lu Shangyan put his hand down: “It’s alright.”

If they knew he was currently carrying a baby in his belly, he couldn’t imagine if these two would faint outright.

Jian Guo said, “What do you mean, ‘it’s alright’? How long have you even known each other? You haven’t even properly dated for a few days, and you’re already married?!”

“Did he trick you! Don’t you know that you can’t trust what men say when they’re dating? They’ll say anything to coax you!”

“No, he must have tricked you! Is it too late to get a divorce now? I’m taking you to confront him right now!”

Lu Shangyan looked blankly at him: “But aren’t I a man too?”

Jian Guo’s hand, which was reaching for him, froze. He was instantly speechless.

Lu Shangyan said, “I know what I’m doing. Thank you for your concern.”

Jian Guo sat down beside him, deflated: “I’m just afraid he’s been pretending to be devoted to trick you. What if…” He trailed off, “I’m afraid you’ll be hurt both emotionally and physically.”

Xia Li finally recovered from her shock and said, “If he really wanted to trick Lu Shangyan, he definitely wouldn’t marry him. If he just sweet-talked his way into a relationship, it would be easier to break up later.”

That was true. Jian Guo fell silent for a moment, having nothing more to say.

He only spoke up because he was afraid Lu Shangyan wouldn’t be happy. If Lu Shangyan said he was happy now, then that was good.

Jian Guo finally said, “Alright then. If he bullies you, you must tell us immediately.”

Xia Li extended her arm next to him: “I feel like telling me is better than telling you.”

Jian Guo glared at her: “I am a dignified man!”

Xia Li licked her lips: “Then it’s even better to tell Zhao Jian.”

Jian Guo looked at her in disbelief: “Are you crazy? We two have much more to talk about! When Lu Shangyan isn’t at school, I’m the one who spends time with you every day and helps you with your work. How many times has Zhao Jian been here? You can’t side with him!”

He gritted his teeth and said again, “If you absolutely have to choose between the two of us, you must choose me!”

Xia Li knew his temper; he was as stubborn as a child. Seeing his eyes genuinely redden with anxiety, she immediately patted his head to soothe him: “I promise, I will definitely choose you.”

Jian Guo gave an arrogant huff: “That’s more like it.”

Xia Li and Lu Shangyan exchanged a look, then grabbed his hand to examine his wedding ring: “The diamond on it is so dazzling. Even in this dim light, I feel blinded. Did President Pei spend a fortune?”

Lu Shangyan thought about the stones he had stored in his safe: “I don’t think so.”

Xia Li reached out to touch it, then quickly pulled her hand back as if she had been pricked: “I’ve been wounded by its brilliance.”

Lu Shangyan was amused: “How can you be so dramatic?”

Pei Yumin had indeed designed many rings, but he was afraid Lu Shangyan would find them too flashy and refuse to wear them to school, so he finally settled on this simpler style at the last minute.

Pei Yumin wanted to show it off but couldn’t, and he was sad about it for several minutes.

Lu Shangyan looked at the ring and couldn’t help but laugh. Xia Li teased him: “Oh, oh, oh, a man immersed in love really does become different from usual.”

Jian Guo also asked, “Did he propose to you?”

Seeing Lu Shangyan nod, Jian Guo continued, “When are you planning to hold the wedding? We weren’t there for the proposal, but I definitely have to be there for the wedding.”

“You helped me get my breakup fee back, so I will definitely give you a big red envelope, whatever I can afford.”

Lu Shangyan shook his head, smiling: “We’re not in a hurry yet.”

Jian Guo, however, was anxious: “Your sudden marriage registration has already sounded the alarm for Xia Li and me, so I must warn you: if you don’t notify us about the wedding banquet, we won’t forgive you!”

Jian Guo glared with wide, round eyes, which had zero deterrent effect.

Lu Shangyan leaned back in his chair and nodded at him again.

Jian Guo started to sigh with emotion: “I really didn’t expect you, who has always been so quiet, to secretly pull off such a huge thing.”

Xia Li agreed: “This is what they call, quietly achieving great things.”

The phone in Lu Shangyan’s hand vibrated a few times. Pei Yumin had sent him a new message, asking if he was wearing the ring properly and demanding a photo for inspection.

Lu Shangyan was figuring out how to take the picture when Xia Li suddenly said, “Give me your phone, I’ll help you take it.”

Seeing her enthusiasm, Lu Shangyan agreed.

Xia Li took the phone, opened the camera, pulled Jian Guo closer, and the three of them took a photo together, which she then sent to Pei Yumin.

Afterward, she used her own phone to text Pei Yumin:

[President Pei, we have all received the gifts!]

[Also, congratulations to you and Shangyan on your marriage! May you be happy together forever!]

    The next second:

[M: Transferred 20,000 yuan to you]

    [M: Reward!]

    Lu Shangyan: …….

Jian Guo glanced over and immediately found Pei Yumin:

[President Pei, Lu Shangyan’s diamond ring truly matches his temperament. You have excellent taste.]

[M: Transferred 20,000 yuan to you]

[M: You get a reward too!]

Lu Shangyan was speechless. He only had time to talk to Pei Yumin secretly after class started.

[S: Why did you suddenly transfer money to them?]

[M: Because they congratulated us. I was very happy to hear it, and that little bit of money is nothing.]

[M: If you ask, I can give you more, ten times, a hundred times, a thousand times! I can give you as much as you want.]

    [M: Little Shark Tycoon.jpg]

    [M: Little Shark throwing money.jpg]

Lu Shangyan’s fingers hovered over the keyboard. For a long time, he didn’t know how to reply.

The more Lu Shangyan thought about it, the more he felt a headache coming on, because he genuinely believed that given Pei Yumin’s style, he might actually do something like that!

Especially since he could already picture the scene.

Lu Shangyan pinched his brow, unable to resist warning him.

[S: Don’t randomly transfer money to others again.]

[M: Then why don’t you manage the money, Wife? I’ll hand over all my salary cards. If you manage me, I won’t dare to give money to others.]

[M: You can give me pocket money on time and in the right amount every day. How about that?]

Lu Shangyan was stunned. He realized belatedly that Pei Yumin was deliberately setting a trap for him!

[S: I don’t want to. Just manage yourself.]

[S: If I catch you doing it again, you’ll go back to your old room to sleep.]

[M: Wife, saying that makes me so sad. We just got married, we’re still in our honeymoon period, and you’re already saying things like that to me.]

    [M: Little Shark collapsing.jpg]

    [M: Little Shark crying loudly.jpg]

Lu Shangyan: ……. He also felt that what he had just said was a bit harsh.

    [S: That’s not what I meant.]

    [S: Little Pufferfish patting.jpg]

[M: Then take my salary cards, otherwise I absolutely won’t forgive you.]

This was the first time Lu Shangyan had encountered such a request.

He sighed, knowing that he ultimately couldn’t win against Pei Yumin.

Rather than remaining deadlocked, it was better to agree from the start. After all, it wouldn’t hurt either of them.

That evening, Pei Yumin handed over all his cards and locked all his real estate deeds in Lu Shangyan’s safe.

“You can check my accounts whenever you like from now on.”

Lu Shangyan had no intention of checking his accounts, but he knew that agreeing would make Pei Yumin happy, so he nodded and said, “Alright.”

Pei Yumin then asked, “So, how much pocket money will you give me every day?”

Lu Shangyan considered that Pei Yumin’s situation was different from his own, so he held up one finger: “One thousand?”

One thousand yuan was what Pei Yumin received as pocket money when he was in kindergarten.

But now that he was married, he felt one thousand yuan was a bit too much.

Seeing Pei Yumin purse his lips without speaking, Lu Shangyan tentatively suggested, “Then ten thousand?”

Pei Yumin shook his head: “You’re being too good to me. I’m not satisfied.”

He began to instruct Lu Shangyan on how to manage him: “Didn’t you say you wanted to watch over me? If you give me so much money every day, how is that watching over me?”

“Whatever amount of pocket money you have for the day, I’ll take the same amount. And I absolutely won’t secretly touch the bank card money. If I need to use it, unless it’s an emergency, I will definitely submit a report and apply beforehand.”

Hearing this, Lu Shangyan felt a little better. He was just worried that Pei Yumin would genuinely run out of money and find it inconvenient when socializing.

Lu Shangyan stuffed all of Pei Yumin’s bank cards into his wallet. His previously flat wallet instantly bulged.

Then he transferred fifty yuan to Pei Yumin.

Pei Yumin accepted it and kissed him heavily on the cheek: “Thank you, Wife, for the reward!”

“I will definitely serve you well tonight, guaranteed to satisfy you!”

A trace of helplessness flashed in Lu Shangyan’s eyes. This situation was so strange.

How could someone link pocket money to what happens in bed?

Only Pei Yumin could abruptly steer the conversation there: “No, I have to work. I have an 8 AM class tomorrow, and I’ll be very tired.”

Pei Yumin replied, “Then I’ll just save it up and give it to you tomorrow.”

Lu Shangyan wanted to refuse, but Pei Yumin preempted him: “You don’t have class the day after tomorrow, so you can sleep in properly.”

“We are newlyweds, dry wood and fierce fire. You can’t keep splashing cold water on me and extinguishing the fire in me, can you?”

When they were dating, he would take verbal advantage, but if Lu Shangyan was unwilling, he wouldn’t dare to force the issue.

But now that they were married, it was different. He dared to boldly reach out and tease. He was gradually becoming familiar with Lu Shangyan’s body and knew where to touch to elicit a reaction.

So… as he reached out, Lu Shangyan immediately stood up: “I’m very tired right now. I’m going to take a shower and sleep.”

“We can talk about that kind of thing after I get off work tomorrow. The specifics will have to wait until then.”

After saying that, he fled as if escaping.

Pei Yumin brought his hand up to his nose and sniffed, then followed him to the bathroom with a mischievous smile: “Shang Shang~ Your belly is big now, it must be inconvenient to shower alone. Can I come in and hold you?”

Lu Shangyan had already started taking off his clothes, but hearing this, he returned to the door, feeling uneasy.

Pei Yumin saw his silhouette appear through the glass and thought Lu Shangyan was finally going to be proactive, but the next second, he heard the sound of a lock clicking.

Lu Shangyan, feeling uneasy, had added another lock to the door.

Pei Yumin pressed his hand against the glass door and laughed softly in resignation. Yes, this was exactly what his Lu Shangyan would do.

Showering was indeed a bit inconvenient for Lu Shangyan now. His belly was starting to sag, and when he looked down, the protruding bump blocked some of his vision. The floor tiles were also slippery, so he had to be extra careful when applying soap, terrified of slipping and falling.

His birthday had passed several days ago, and they were officially entering November. The little cub in his belly was now over six months old.

He would be able to meet the baby around the time of the New Year.

Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but reach out and poke his round belly. The doctor told him that the belly would get even bigger in the third trimester.

He started to feel a little nervous and helpless, but the one thing he didn’t feel was fear.

The baby in his belly seemed to sense his touch, stretching its arms and legs and pushing against his belly. He found it amusing and couldn’t help but touch it again.

The sound of the water continued. He was taking much longer to shower than before. Pei Yumin leaned against the door, listening for a long time. When he didn’t hear any movement inside, he immediately panicked.

He pounded on the door a few times and started shouting, “Lu Shangyan, what’s wrong? Why is there no sound at all!”

“Did you fall? Are you feeling unwell? Answer me! If you don’t say anything, I’m going to kick the door in!”

After speaking, he pressed his face against the glass door, trying to see if Lu Shangyan was behind the door, so he wouldn’t hurt him when he kicked it open.

Lu Shangyan’s hand rested on his belly, looking at the door with confusion. Pei Yumin had startled him just now, and he was only now recovering.

“I’m fine. I’ll be out soon.”

Pei Yumin forcefully lowered the leg he had raised: “Good, you scared me.”

“Tomorrow when you shower, I’m going to bring a small stool and sit next to you to watch. In your current condition, I’m too afraid for you to shower alone.”

Lu Shangyan reasonably suspected that while Pei Yumin was genuinely afraid, he was also genuinely trying to satisfy his “private desires.”

Lu Shangyan quickly lathered up, rinsed off the foam, and walked out with a towel wrapped around his head.

The weather was getting colder. Pei Yumin saw his wet hair and immediately went in to grab the hairdryer: “Even though the air conditioning is on, you should dry yourself before coming out. What if you catch a cold?”

Lu Shangyan allowed Pei Yumin’s fingers to run through his hair. While drying it, Pei Yumin occasionally leaned down and quickly kissed the top of his head.

Lu Shangyan felt warm behind him and couldn’t help but squint: “I know. I came out quickly because I was afraid you’d worry outside.”

Pei Yumin paused, then pinched his chin to make him look up. He bent down and quickly kissed his lips.

This posture was a bit awkward for Lu Shangyan, and Pei Yumin was afraid of hurting his back, so he only dared to kiss him lightly.

But unexpectedly, when he pulled his lips away, Lu Shangyan still had his eyes closed, looking like he wanted the kiss to continue.

Pei Yumin smiled and kissed his forehead again: “Ah, I wish time would fast-forward to tomorrow night. That way, I can kiss you however I want, without worrying about getting burned.”

Lu Shangyan lowered his eyes and lightly tapped Pei Yumin’s toes with his own.

    Pei Yumin laughed even louder.

Lu Shangyan had been sleeping in a lot lately. His body was inexplicably sore, and once awake, he didn’t want to leave the warm covers.

Pei Yumin had to wake up twenty minutes earlier than usual. After making breakfast, he had to spend another twenty minutes calling Lu Shangyan to get up.

Initially, Lu Shangyan felt that having Pei Yumin help him with something as small as getting up was too improper, so he generally wouldn’t let Pei Yumin call him more than three times. But now it was different. Pei Yumin had to hug him, lift him up, and bring his clothes to his hand.

He felt he was being fussy, but he couldn’t help it. If Pei Yumin did these things, he felt awkward, but if he didn’t, he felt even more awkward. He didn’t know how to adjust, so he could only temporarily attribute it to his special physical condition and the influence of pregnancy hormones.

Lu Shangyan struggled to get up again. Thinking about what Pei Yumin wanted to do with him tonight… he dressed much faster, afraid of being stripped bare by Pei Yumin before he could even put his clothes on.

Pei Yumin was warming milk for him. When Lu Shangyan went to wash up, he noticed that the floor, which was bare last night, was now covered with anti-slip mats. He narrowed his eyes and saw that the edges of the sink and cabinets were all covered with anti-collision stickers.

He walked out with his high-quality toothbrush. It was the same outside. Areas on the balcony where watering the plants might cause leaks were also covered with anti-slip mats, featuring a pattern of a little shark following a little pufferfish.

The little pufferfish held its head up, flicking its tail proudly, while the little shark’s eyes were filled with heart bubbles.

Lu Shangyan looked at Pei Yumin busy in the small kitchen. Pei Yumin must have put thought into these anti-slip mats too.

Lu Shangyan went to water the flowers. Looking at the withered leaves, his eyes suddenly stung, and then tears started falling uncontrollably.

He wiped his eyes several times, but he couldn’t stop. His eyes were like a broken faucet.

Pei Yumin brought breakfast to the table and saw Lu Shangyan still standing on the balcony. He called him several times, but Lu Shangyan didn’t answer.

Pei Yumin felt something was wrong. He walked over and realized Lu Shangyan was crying with red, swollen eyes.

Pei Yumin was startled: “Why are you crying? What’s wrong?”

He looked down at the floor: “You don’t like the anti-slip mats? I’ll go change them later, okay?”

Lu Shangyan shook his head: “I don’t know.”

Pei Yumin took his hand and asked again, “Are you sleepy and want to go back to bed? Should I ask for leave for you now? I’ll stay home with you all day.”

Lu Shangyan still shook his head: “It’s not that. I need to go to school.”

Pei Yumin scratched his head: “Then you don’t want to eat today’s breakfast? What do you want to eat? Tell me, and I’ll make it for you.”

The more he talked, the more Lu Shangyan’s nose felt sore, and his eyes watered even more uncontrollably.

Pei Yumin sighed, unable to figure out the reason. He had to pull Lu Shangyan into his arms and stroke his back: “Good boy, what is it? Why are you suddenly crying so sadly?”

Lu Shangyan sniffled and said something nonsensical: “Grapes.”

After saying it, even he was stunned for a moment. He didn’t know why he suddenly thought of grapes.

Pei Yumin seized the “ray of hope”: “Do you want to eat grapes, or do you want to go to a vineyard to pick grapes?”

Lu Shangyan was helped to sit on the sofa, and Pei Yumin used a wet wipe to clean his face: “No, I suddenly thought of the grape vine you planted at home.”

“It’s so cold, will the grape vine freeze to death?”

Pei Yumin let out a long breath: “I’ll figure out a way right now to build a greenhouse for the grape vine. I’ll make sure it survives the winter, okay?”

Lu Shangyan bit his lip. His emotions came and went quickly. He didn’t want to cry anymore and felt that his behavior just now was completely unlike Lu Shangyan.

He lowered his head, fiddling with his fingers: “Forget it.”

Pei Yumin’s forehead was starting to sweat: “We can’t just forget it. It’s important to us, isn’t it? So I must protect it well.”

“Thank you for telling me the grape vine needs attention. You did very well. Next time you’re unhappy, you must tell me immediately. Without your reminder, I might forget a lot of things.”

The grape vine could survive the winter, and Lu Shangyan knew it, and Pei Yumin knew it too.

But as soon as Lu Shangyan cried in front of him, all his principles and past experiences ceased to matter.

Pei Yumin sighed: “You don’t have to hold it in. The doctor said during the last check-up that emotional fluctuations are normal.”

“I can’t get pregnant for you, nor can I share the pain of pregnancy. If you don’t vent your temper at me more often, won’t I seem even more useless?”

Lu Shangyan shook his head. Hearing him say this, his nose stung, and he wanted to cry again: “You’re already doing very well. I just don’t know why, but the tears are completely out of my control. It’s like a broken faucet; no matter how I try to turn the switch, it doesn’t work.”

Pei Yumin continued to wipe his tears: “It’s normal. This side of Lu Shangyan is rare, and I like it very much. If possible, I hope you never restrain your temper.”

“If you suddenly feel irritable, it’s okay to use me as a punching bag.”

He knelt in front of Lu Shangyan. After he said this, Lu Shangyan suddenly pursed his lips, then raised his hand and tugged at Pei Yumin’s hair: “I suddenly think your hairstyle is ugly. I want to see what you look like without hair, so can you shave your head bald?”
