Chapter 51: Chapter 51 It Became Swollen

Pei Yumin immediately jumped up, his face full of hostility. If Lu Shangyan hadn’t been sitting opposite him, he would have thrown the freshly grilled, sizzling piece of meat directly into his face!

Lu Shangyan’s ears instantly turned red when he saw his face. “Senior, please stop talking.”

Liu Ronghan stood up again and patted his shoulder with a smile. “It’s been a while. You look like you’re doing quite well.”

Then, meeting Pei Yumin’s fiery gaze, he retracted the foot he had stepped out with, turned back, and instead of sitting opposite them, he went straight to Lu Shangyan’s side and sat down, leaning against his shoulder.

Pei Yumin couldn’t stand it anymore and walked over, intending to pull him up.

Liu Ronghan looked at him, as if only just realizing something, and gave Lu Shangyan a meaningful look before repeating, “First love?”

Pei Yumin slammed the tongs heavily in front of him, shaking the ring in his face repeatedly. “We are getting married soon, so could you please stay away from my boyfriend?”

Liu Ronghan shrugged. This time, he did stand up and moved to sit opposite the two of them.

Pei Yumin, guarding his treasure, held Lu Shangyan’s hand under the table, terrified that the man opposite them might trick him away!

But then, Liu Ronghan immediately changed the subject, acting as if he wasn’t the one who had deliberately provoked them by mentioning “first love.” The surge of anger Pei Yumin had felt was choked back, burning painfully in his lungs.

Liu Ronghan said, “The place where I interned before is hiring now. Are you interested? I mentioned you to the professor when I was interning there. He really admires you and asked about you just two days ago.”

“If you’re interested, I can give you his number. The salary during the internship period is this much.” He held up two fingers. “Two thousand is a bit low, but it’s a big hospital. As an internship experience, it’s enough to serve as a stepping stone.”

Pei Yumin snorted. That little money? The current Lu Shangyan was sitting on millions in assets and wouldn’t even look at that.

He looked at Lu Shangyan, only to find that Lu Shangyan was actually lowering his head and considering it. Frowning, he grabbed Lu Shangyan’s wrist and shook it a few times.

Only then did Lu Shangyan speak. “If it’s next year, maybe. I need to think about this year.”

Liu Ronghan was a little surprised by his answer. He remembered Lu Shangyan being very short on money and working multiple jobs. Lu Shangyan rarely refused work, especially professional, relevant jobs like the one he was offering.

But clearly, he shouldn’t pry into Lu Shangyan’s private matters. He simply said, “Then take your time to consider it. If you decide, you can contact me anytime.”

He had finished eating, and his friend was waiting for him outside, so he didn’t stay long before leaving.

Pei Yumin made a few cutting motions with the meat scissors at his retreating back. When he came back to his senses, he saw Lu Shangyan still looking down, deep in thought.

He felt stifled. After trying to hold it in, he couldn’t resist leaning over and blowing into Lu Shangyan’s ear. “When did you have a first love?”

“When you first moved in with me, you weren’t even sure about your sexual orientation. Looking back, were you lying to me then?”

Lu Shangyan shrank his neck. His ears were very sensitive, and every time Pei Yumin leaned in to talk, he felt half his body go numb.

He looked at Pei Yumin’s exaggerated “hurt” expression, opening and closing his mouth several times before finally giving in. “No, he’s a senior two years ahead of me. Last year, he was our class’s teaching assistant, and that’s how I met him.”

“Then one time, he overheard me and Xia Li talking.” He lowered his head, biting his lip as if it was hard to say. His eyelids fluttered a few times before his shoulders finally slumped, and he said resignedly, “We were saying that you were my first love. He overheard it accidentally, and since then, he always brings up the ‘first love’ thing. He just does it to tease me. There are no other feelings involved.”

Pei Yumin’s heart settled back into place, but before two seconds passed, it started pounding wildly again!

“You told someone I was your first love?!”

His voice was so loud that several tables around them looked over. Lu Shangyan wanted to hide under the table right then and there, but in the end, he only covered his face with his hand.

Pei Yumin’s voice continued. Lu Shangyan knew that if he didn’t answer, Pei Yumin would probably keep talking until the entire barbecue restaurant, even the auntie washing vegetables in the back kitchen, knew about it.

He had no choice but to cover Pei Yumin’s mouth with his other hand. “Yes, stop talking.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Pei Yumin let out a muffled, excited, “Woohoo! I knew it! I’m the only one in your heart!”

He was satisfied, leaving Lu Shangyan alone with a flushed face.

The phone resting beside his hand lit up. A person labeled “Senior Liu” had sent him a message.

[I forgot to wish you a happy marriage. When is the wedding banquet? Remember to send me an invitation.]

Lu Shangyan rested his forehead on the edge of the table. He was doomed. Senior Liu was a big mouth who liked to spread news. Now that he knew this, it would spread everywhere within half a day!

Lu Shangyan gritted his teeth, slowly tapping on his phone under the table.

[S: Senior, don’t listen to his nonsense. We are not getting married.]

A piece of juicy meat slipped down, and then a trembling hand reached over the top of the screen, fingers tapping repeatedly on the display. “What do you mean by that?”

“Recall it! Recall it quickly! What do you mean, ‘We are not getting married’? Say it again, say, ‘We are definitely getting married!’ Quick!”

The reply from the other side came quickly:

[I didn’t expect this, Junior. I always thought you were a pure college student. Turns out you were just playing around?]

Lu Shangyan knew he was testing him, trying to extract useful information from his response by using harsh words.

Lu Shangyan sighed, wondering how to reply, when Pei Yumin whispered faintly beside him, “Are you really just playing around with me? You must love me, right?”

Lu Shangyan looked troubled. He resignedly scrolled through the chat, recalled the message Pei Yumin had demanded he recall, and then replied to Liu Ronghan’s question about the wedding invitation.

[S: The date hasn’t been set yet. I will definitely let you know once it is confirmed. Thank you!]

The other side also recalled their previous question, and as if nothing had happened, replied with an [ok].

But half a minute later, they started adding fuel to the fire again.

[We’re all men, I understand why you recalled it.]

This time, Lu Shangyan hid his phone behind him, and Pei Yumin didn’t manage to see it.

Because Pei Yumin had achieved his goal, he was now diligently grilling meat to show off.

Lu Shangyan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. “Don’t make so much. I’m almost full.”

Pei Yumin turned his head and very skillfully touched his stomach. “Really? Why does it feel empty when I touch it?”

Lu Shangyan glanced down. The doctor had said his body structure was special, and his belly wouldn’t be very noticeable, currently looking just like he was bloated from overeating. But he didn’t know what it would be like later on. Lu Shangyan calculated, hoping the weather would turn cold early this year so he could hide it with thick clothes.

“I’m really full. Eating too much makes it uncomfortable to sleep at night.”

Perhaps because the fetus was slowly growing and pressing on his organs, he got hungry quickly these days, but he couldn’t eat as much as before during meals. This had made him feel frustrated when eating buffets over the past two months; with his current appetite, he couldn’t even eat enough to make it worth the money.

Pei Yumin became a little nervous. “Are you feeling very uncomfortable? Why didn’t you tell me?”

Lu Shangyan shook his head. “It’s not very uncomfortable, as long as I don’t eat too much.”

Pei Yumin took out his phone and consulted the doctor. Only after learning that this was a normal pregnancy symptom did he relax. “We’ll go grocery shopping after we finish eating. The fridge is almost empty. We’ll buy some things to take back, and I’ll cook for you when you get hungry tonight.”

Lu Shangyan originally wanted to say it wasn’t necessary to go to so much trouble, but Pei Yumin seemed to have anticipated his thoughts and spoke first. “You pay. I need to buy a lot of things. You have money now, so you should spend more on me.”

This was the first time Pei Yumin had actively asked to spend his money, proving that he needed him especially…

Lu Shangyan blinked. “Alright, but don’t buy too much. The fridge isn’t omnipotent, and it will be wasteful if we can’t finish it.”

Pei Yumin succeeded again. The last incident had been a blessing in disguise. He had now accurately found a way to make Lu Shangyan soft-hearted, and he could also use this trick to more naturally treat Lu Shangyan well.

At the supermarket, he put two boxes of chopped pork ribs into the shopping cart.

He planned to have Lu Shangyan buy some ribs to make soup, but he could secretly add some ginseng to the soup. Since Lu Shangyan knew it was his money being spent, he would drink a little more of it.

While thinking, he suddenly had a flash of inspiration. “You used to love taking on part-time jobs for money. Why didn’t you go when he called you just now? Did you refuse because you saw that I didn’t like him?”

Lu Shangyan was staring intently at a bunch of grapes. Hearing the question, he shook his head without thinking. “No, it’s because my current physical condition makes it inconvenient.”

He walked as he spoke, finally taking two bunches and putting them in a bag. Pei Yumin naturally took it, intending to weigh them together later.

He wasn’t sad because of Lu Shangyan’s denial. Instead, he said happily, “Stop making excuses. I knew you did it for me. You’re just too embarrassed to say it!”

He poked his finger at Lu Shangyan’s belly. “There’s half of me in here. If you do it for him, fifty percent of it is for me. Rounding up, it’s all for me.”

Lu Shangyan looked speechless and moved slightly to the side, but Pei Yumin followed, leaning closer. Pei Yumin kept staring at him, making him extremely uncomfortable. Lu Shangyan now understood that even if he continued to deny it, Pei Yumin would always find new arguments to confirm his incorrect assumptions.

Eager to go home and eat grapes, he said, “Fine, think whatever you want.”

Pei Yumin had a “I knew it” expression. “You really like me.”

Lu Shangyan humored him. “Mhm, like, like.”

He didn’t want Pei Yumin to keep chattering, but the opposite happened. Pei Yumin became even more excited when he heard this. “Say it again.”

Lu Shangyan saw him take out his phone, looking ready to record. “I’ll use it as my ringtone.”

Lu Shangyan now knew he was a boss at a branch company with hundreds of employees under him. Given his personality, if he really changed his ringtone, he would probably deliberately tour the entire company and have Dai Qin secretly call him from behind, making sure everyone in the company heard his ringtone.

Just thinking about it made Lu Shangyan want to find a hole to crawl into. “No, absolutely not, you can’t!”

Pei Yumin still recorded it and pestered him to say it again, but Lu Shangyan walked quickly and pointed at a row of pomelos. “Help me pick one. I don’t know how to choose.”

“Coming, Wife.” Pei Yumin immediately turned around with a smile.

Lu Shangyan sighed in relief, but he hadn’t expected Pei Yumin to settle for using his refusal as an alarm clock ringtone.

Hearing his own voice while half-asleep startled him!

His voice of refusal had been particularly crisp, though slightly lowered because they were outside. But hearing it in the morning gave it a completely different flavor.

Especially since they were currently spooning, in a very intimate position, and the alarm kept ringing. Lu Shangyan’s breathing changed repeatedly. Finally, he couldn’t stand it anymore. He reached over Pei Yumin’s body, grabbed his phone, and turned off the alarm.

When he climbed over, Pei Yumin let out an involuntary groan.

That segment of his voice sounded even more like the kind of words someone would grit out when they couldn’t bear the “culprit” who was being rough with them in bed.

Lu Shangyan’s ears were red. He sat up, unlocked the screen, and prepared to change that wicked ringtone!

After opening the phone, he saw that Pei Yumin’s lock screen was a photo of him holding the little goldfish, and the wallpaper had changed from the picture of him kissing his eyelids to a side profile of him sleeping.

In the photo, he was resting his head on Pei Yumin’s arm. Pei Yumin was clearly awake, tilting his head and showing a smiling eye to the camera, using his bent arm to pinch Lu Shangyan’s cheek.

Lu Shangyan must have been annoyed in his sleep, his brows slightly furrowed, and his mouth involuntarily pouting, looking very wronged.

Lu Shangyan had no memory of this. The photo made him feel hot all over. “When did you secretly take this?”

Pei Yumin said, “I take many photos every day. They’re all in the album, but I put a password on it. It’s your birthday. You can open it and take a look.”

Lu Shangyan was very curious, his fingers pausing for a few moments, but he didn’t look.

Because he felt that if the two of them were lying in bed together looking at those photos right now, something would definitely happen!

    No, something big would happen!

Lu Shangyan took a deep breath. This time, he only changed the ringtone, not the wallpaper or the lock screen.

Pei Yumin raised an eyebrow, taking in his little actions, then rolled over and wrapped his arms around his waist again. “Record a new alarm for me. I also think using that one isn’t good. If I keep using it, I’m afraid I’ll be overcome with lust for you first thing in the morning.”

As he spoke, he brought his face close to Lu Shangyan’s side waist, rubbing his lips against it through the thin pajamas.

Lu Shangyan felt ticklish but couldn’t dodge. “Later, when I have time.”

“I need to get up now. I have class this morning with an old professor who takes attendance ten minutes early every day.”

Only then did Pei Yumin sit up, quickly kissing his lips before getting out of bed.

After sleeping together for a long time, Pei Yumin had also become bolder. He knew Lu Shangyan wouldn’t mind, and besides, they were already like an old married couple. What couldn’t they do?

Pei Yumin slipped into the bathroom, squeezed toothpaste onto both toothbrushes, and when he returned after washing up, Lu Shangyan had already changed his clothes.

To hide his belly, he now wore very loose casual wear or sportswear, but even so, it still drew Pei Yumin’s gaze every time.

The clothes were baggy everywhere on him, except for his butt, which looked slightly fleshy, but it was well hidden under the pants and didn’t cling to the fabric. Every time Lu Shangyan walked ahead of him, Pei Yumin had to make a great effort of will not to touch it.

Pei Yumin turned around to tidy the bed, mentally cursing himself.

You beast! Wasn’t kissing him enough?!

    —

When the baby was over five months old, the temperature started to drop. It wasn’t strange for Lu Shangyan to wear bulky coats, so he wore loose-fitting clothes every day without fail.

Xia Li couldn’t help but say, “If it weren’t for your face, your outfit would be unbearable.”

Lu Shangyan chuckled lightly. “Then why do you still need my help?”

Xia Li replied seriously, “I already said, it’s because you still have that face.”

Xia Li’s club was hosting a flea market event recently. Many graduating students were about to start their internships outside and wouldn’t be in school for long. They could sell things they couldn’t take with them at a low price, or others could sell their unwanted items.

Jian Guo, with her delicate face, venomously complained, “What club activity? It’s clearly just treating you as cheap labor. You do all the work, get no benefits, and any honor is completely taken by your so-called president.”

Xia Li sighed. “We were young and foolish. If someone asked me to join a club now, I wouldn’t agree no matter what!”

“It’s too late to regret it now. If you quit, you have to write a ten-thousand-word application and read it aloud in front of all the club presidents. Do you know what kind of scene that is?”

Xia Li had witnessed it once and had completely abandoned the idea of quitting the club. She still shivered thinking about it. “Anyway, I’m graduating soon, so I can’t be bothered to make a fuss.”

Despite her complaints, Jian Guo obediently helped her move tables and set them up. “But they can’t make you manage twenty stalls alone. How long would it take you to move everything yourself?”

Xia Li looked around. “The previous president graduated, and now there’s a new one. New officials always start with a bang, trying to establish authority.”

“Who told me to mistake the time and be late for the last meeting? When I got there and saw her stern face, I knew I was done for.”

Lu Shangyan wiped his sweat with a tissue, rolled up his sleeves, but still didn’t intend to take off his jacket. “Actually, I think it would be fine if you just didn’t participate in the club activities.”

Xia Li was even more speechless. “That’s what I thought too. The one time I didn’t go to an activity, the senior found my counselor, and my excellent scholarship evaluation… You know, I can’t give up my money.”

When money was mentioned, Lu Shangyan strongly related, nodding without speaking further.

However, setting up these twenty-plus stalls was slow, even with helpers. Finally, Xia Li had no choice but to call Zhao Jian over as well.

Lu Shangyan didn’t dare exert too much force and was slowly moving a table. When he turned around, he saw Zhao Jian, wearing a white dress embroidered with a small strawberry on the collar, holding a chair in one hand and charging forward quickly.

This action drew the attention of many people on campus, and some had already started taking photos on their phones.

Lu Shangyan could only try to stay as far away from him as possible, but he couldn’t help but sigh.

    Zhao Jian, a true man.

When Pei Yumin arrived after work, they were still setting up the canopy. Seeing that Lu Shangyan’s back was completely soaked, he told him to sit aside and rest.

Jian Guo said sourly, “He’s the one who refuses to take off his clothes. We didn’t deliberately make him work hard and get tired.”

Zhao Jian, covered in sweat, floated past. “Little President Pei, why didn’t you bring your bodyguard team to help with the work?”

Pei Yumin “Tsked,” and Zhao Jian walked away with a grin.

Now Pei Yumin finally had a chance to talk to Lu Shangyan. “You’ve changed.”

Lu Shangyan took a sip of water. “How?”

He looked down at himself. “Did I get fat again? I don’t think so. I’ve been controlling my weight.”

Pei Yumin pinched his face. “You wouldn’t have participated in this kind of activity before.”

Lu Shangyan paused, then belatedly nodded. “I’ve never participated in group activities, let alone club activities.”

He looked at the people standing on chairs, fiercely arguing about how to tie the ribbons better. “It’s a very novel feeling.”

“I also didn’t expect that I would have so many friends this year.” He moved his leg, his knee bumping Pei Yumin’s knee. “And family.”

Pei Yumin knew what he meant, and the smile on his face became unstoppable.

When they were almost finished, Pei Yumin received a message from Tang Suichen. It informed him that Chen Hao’s matter had been completely handled, ensuring that no “scandal” would affect him and Lu Shangyan.

    Then, it immediately followed up.

[Bitter Orange: But I’m feeling very annoyed right now and desperately need to vent. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up and we can drink.]

Pei Yumin took a photo of their legs pressed together and sent it to him.

[M: Can’t go. I’m helping my boyfriend with a campus event.]

[Bitter Orange: Stop showing off your affection. I can’t handle this right now.]

[Bitter Orange: That guy Song refuses to have a wedding with me. I’m going crazy!]

[M: Then you can come to our wedding.]

    [Bitter Orange: Get lost!]

[Bitter Orange: I’m coming to find you now. Let’s eat together tonight. I’ll allow you to bring your boyfriend. Is that acceptable?]

[M: Jian Guo is here too. Do you still want to come?]

Tang Suichen, who was rushing out the door with his keys, saw the message, turned back, and flopped onto the sofa.

[Bitter Orange: Damn it! Forget it!]

[Bitter Orange: You guys are terrible friends!]

[M: Do you want me to help you persuade Song Yuxin?]

[Bitter Orange: Good people live long lives. Love you, President Pei.]

Pei Yumin couldn’t help but laugh out loud and said to Lu Shangyan beside him, “That’s all he’s good for.”

Jian Guo finished tying the ribbons and turned to see the two of them still sitting and talking. “You guys are here to help. Don’t slack off. Finish quickly so we can go home.”

“Lu Shangyan is even fatter than before. Get up and exercise.”

Xia Li already felt bad for asking them to help. If she didn’t even let them rest, it would be too much.

She also knew that Jian Guo held a grudge against Pei Yumin because of Tang Suichen.

Hearing this, she quickly smoothed things over. “This is happy weight gain. Besides, he was indeed a bit too thin before. It’s good to gain some weight.”

She pulled Jian Guo away. Pei Yumin also stood up, mimicking Jian Guo’s gesture, and took Lu Shangyan’s hand, trying to pull him up from the chair.

But as Lu Shangyan stood up, his body involuntarily flinched, and his waist bent slightly.

Pei Yumin broke out in a sweat and quickly asked, “What’s wrong?”

Lu Shangyan found it a bit hard to say and leaned closer to whisper, “My chest hurts a little.”

The faint sound reached his ears. Pei Yumin looked down.

Lu Shangyan’s clothes were very loose. When he bent down, if you leaned close, you could see inside.

Pei Yumin saw the two red, swollen points inside and his breath hitched. “Did it get chafed and swollen? Do you want me to help you rub it?”

Lu Shangyan gritted his teeth, originally intending to say no, but ultimately couldn’t bear the stinging pain. “I guess it needs rubbing… right?”
