Chapter 47: Chapter 47 On the Matter of the Bed

Lu Shangyan’s body was still weak, how could he withstand such teasing? He immediately arched his back, his legs began to tremble uncontrollably, and he gripped Pei Yumin’s arm tightly, his eyes starting to well up again.

How could an “honest man” like Pei Yumin have seen such a tempting scene? His wrist moved again, wanting to continue what they had started, but this time Lu Shangyan managed to grab his wrist first and dodge before he could exert force.

His face turned even redder, but this redness was very different from usual. In a trance, Pei Yumin seemed to see the first time they were in bed, Lu Shangyan grabbing his wrist, crying while saying, “No.”

Pei Yumin was about to lose control again. Even though his hand was caught by Lu Shangyan, he wasn’t behaving. Lu Shangyan was afraid that something serious would happen if this continued, so he had to temporarily move away from him, sitting on a chair to recite his textbook, relieving the heat in his body, and incidentally hoping that a certain spirited part would quickly calm down.

Halfway through his recitation, Pei Yumin sat down next to him. His expression had returned to normal, acting as if he wasn’t the one who had just been doing those things.

Lu Shangyan secretly cursed his lack of self-control, but the moment he lowered his eyes, he saw that Pei Yumin’s tent was pitched even higher than his. Pei Yumin was just better at pretending…

He took a deep breath, just regaining his composure, when Pei Yumin rubbed against him again, pressing close. The classroom air conditioning wasn’t on, and Lu Shangyan was terribly hot, especially where they were touching—it felt like fire.

The annoying thing was, the moment he moved away a little, Pei Yumin would inch closer, forcing him back until he had nowhere left to retreat.

He could only frown, putting on a fierce, impatient look.

But it held no deterrent power whatsoever. It looked more like a kitten showing its claws, and ones that had been clipped at that, making Pei Yumin itch with desire, wishing he could grab him and fiercely inhale his scent for a while.

However, Pei Yumin knew they couldn’t do it here. Lu Shangyan was thin-skinned; if he was going to inhale, it had to be done at home.

So he began to negotiate: “We won’t do it here. Can we go back?”

Lu Shangyan knew what he was talking about and immediately felt flustered again. He poked his own belly, signaling: “No.”

Pei Yumin poked back: “Yes, we can.”

“Do you remember when I took you for a check-up before school started? I secretly asked the doctor about your condition. He told me it’s okay to do it, but we need to be careful.”

Lu Shangyan gritted his teeth, looking at him in disbelief. He truly didn’t know how Pei Yumin had the nerve to ask about such a thing!

Pei Yumin saw through his thoughts and explained, “We are about to get married. We are already an old married couple. What is there to be embarrassed about?”

Lu Shangyan got a little agitated: “Who said I’m marrying you?”

“Wait, who is an old married couple with you?”

Pei Yumin grabbed his hand, gesturing toward the plain silver wedding bands they wore, each set with a tiny diamond, looking particularly exquisite on their fingers.

“You already gave me a ring. Isn’t marriage just a matter of time? Don’t be shy, I understand you completely.”

Lu Shangyan grabbed his finger: “I want it back now.”

Pei Yumin quickly withdrew his hand and pressed it against his chest: “No, it’s mine now. It has merged into my flesh and blood. If you try to take it by force, I will die!”

As he spoke, he put on a serious expression of lingering fear.

Lu Shangyan snorted lightly and turned his head away, ignoring him.

Pei Yumin started persuading him again: “I promise I’ll be gentle, okay? Look at how you were just now, you definitely want it too. You are so young, holding it in all the time is bad for your health.”

Lu Shangyan felt restless and completely at a loss. After a long pause, he managed to squeeze out: “The baby doesn’t want to.”

“What does he have to do with wanting or not wanting?” Pei Yumin placed his hand on Lu Shangyan’s slightly protruding lower abdomen and rubbed it several times. It was soft, and the texture was simply wonderful. “He just told me he’s willing.”

Lu Shangyan still frowned, seriously denying his words: “Your feeling is inaccurate. He told me he’s not willing.”

Seeing him like this, Pei Yumin’s words only turned into one sentence: “So cute, Lu Shangyan, my wife.”

Lu Shangyan absolutely could not stay alone in the same space with him anymore, or things would develop in unpredictable directions.

Fortunately, he had a competition in the afternoon, and Pei Yumin finally restrained himself. It was only when Lu Shangyan reported his student number and signed in to enter the venue that Pei Yumin suddenly covered his mouth, making a fist to cheer him on.

He looked as if Lu Shangyan was about to participate in some extremely high-risk challenge, rather than a university sports day event that was practically meaningless.

While Lu Shangyan was waiting, Pei Yumin quietly slipped outside the red line. He relied on his age to pretend to be a teacher, and no one came forward to stop him. He stood behind Lu Shangyan, holding a small fan for him, constantly telling him to be careful later.

Lu Shangyan urged him to leave: “So many people are watching from the stands. You’re embarrassing me like this.”

Pei Yumin said, “They are just envious of the divine love between you and me.”

As he spoke, he leaned over the red line, whispering in Lu Shangyan’s ear: “I saw the shot put the student in front is holding looks quite heavy. You must be careful when you throw it later. If you can’t throw it, just forget it, lest you exert too much force and the baby comes out early.”

Lu Shangyan rolled his eyes at him, full of disdain: “He’s not even five months old! He won’t come out!”

Pei Yumin said, “What if? I saw on the news that some people didn’t know they were pregnant and thought they were constipated. They pushed too hard, and the baby came out.”

“Your body is special, you must be extra careful!”

Lu Shangyan was momentarily speechless. Just then, his number was called. He stood up and told Pei Yumin, “Don’t worry. After the competition, I’ll beat you up. When you see what I do to you, you’ll know whether I need to be careful or not.”

Perhaps because Lu Shangyan had a fire burning inside, coupled with his regular exercise from multiple part-time jobs, he ended up winning second place.

Pei Yumin was so excited he wanted to pick him up and spin him around, but Lu Shangyan skillfully dodged him. He just wanted to distance himself from this crazy person and make it clear that he and Pei Yumin were not close.

That night when they returned, Lu Shangyan sternly warned him to restrain himself the next day, or he wouldn’t be allowed to visit him at school anymore.

Pei Yumin sat obediently and agreed readily, but the next day, when Lu Shangyan was running the 200-meter race, Pei Yumin started again: “I stayed up all night thinking of a dozen cheering slogans. I’ll send them to the main stage during your race and have them use the loudspeaker to cheer for you.”

“I didn’t have time to prepare yesterday because it was too rushed. You must have what others have, and it must be better than theirs.”

“Lu Shangyan, you are the eagle on the field, the arrow leaving the bowstring. Sprint towards the finish line! I will always wait for you at the finish line.”

“Shangshang baby is the strongest, Shangshang baby is the best, Shangshang baby…”

Lu Shangyan simply didn’t have the courage to read all the cheering slogans. He crumpled them all up and stuffed them into his pocket. He didn’t even dare to throw them in the trash, afraid Pei Yumin would rummage through the bins.

Pei Yumin tried to reach out and snatch them, but Lu Shangyan stopped him: “The 200-meter race is over quickly. The announcer won’t even have time to pick up this slip of paper.”

Pei Yumin stopped trying to grab them: “It’s okay, I memorized them all. I’ll recite them to the announcers later.”

Lu Shangyan: “You wouldn’t dare! If you go, I’m done with you!”

Pei Yumin said, “You are too shy. You are so outstanding, you should let everyone know.”

Lu Shangyan said, “I’m sorry, I don’t need that.”

Pei Yumin pinched his face, sighing with emotion again: “Such thin skin, no wonder it’s so tender.”

Jian Guo’s 5000-meter race was also scheduled for the morning. It was cooler in the morning, and he was warming up, preparing to run after the 200-meter race finished.

As soon as he arrived at the track, he saw Lu Shangyan and Pei Yumin. The more he looked, the more uncomfortable he felt, especially thinking that Pei Yumin was Tang Suichen’s good brother. He now held hostility towards everyone around Tang Suichen!

Except for Lu Shangyan. Lu Shangyan was always innocent in his eyes. He was even worried that Pei Yumin might be playing with Lu Shangyan’s feelings!

He ran over and gave Pei Yumin a look of disgust.

Pei Yumin let out a light chuckle, watching Jian Guo pull Lu Shangyan away.

He turned back, picked up his bag, and stood outside the finish line, waiting for Lu Shangyan.

Lu Shangyan had recently started experiencing low blood sugar again. Coupled with the crowd and poor air circulation, his steps felt a bit unsteady. Fortunately, he finished the 200-meter race, though his result wasn’t ideal, nor was it particularly bad.

The guy who came in first was already raising his hands high, ready to receive cheers, but Pei Yumin quickly floated past him, like a helpful spirit, pulling out a bottle of mineral water from his bag, twisting the cap, and handing it to Lu Shangyan. He then started fanning him and wiping away sweat that hadn’t even appeared yet.

The first-place guy looked bewildered and couldn’t stand it, reminding him: “I’m first place. He’s sixth.”

Pei Yumin said, “What does you being first place have to do with me?”

“He’s my boyfriend. Of course, I only take care of him.”

Lu Shangyan was feeling dizzy and was chugging water frantically. When he heard this, he promptly spat out a mouthful of water. Pei Yumin looked at him nervously: “Oh my god, did you choke? Are you okay?”

Lu Shangyan pushed his hand away and quickly floated off.

Pei Yumin saw his face was pale and lost the mood to tease him further: “Are you done now? Should I take you back first? My mom made some mung bean porridge, it’s in the fridge. It would be perfect to drink back home to cool off.”

Lu Shangyan sat down on the steps and shook his head. From now on, he decided not to say a single word and just treat Pei Yumin like air.

Until he saw Jian Guo running past him lap after lap, his figure becoming wobbly, biting his lower lip and shedding tears.

He thought Jian Guo would give up, but unexpectedly, he wobbled his way through the entire race. In the final lap, he was crying uncontrollably, tears and snot streaming down his face.

Lu Shangyan knew he was still heartbroken and sad over Tang Suichen. After all, according to Jian Guo, Tang Suichen had been extremely good to him, making him happy, giving him everything he wanted, the best things—it was unconditional indulgence.

But he hadn’t expected that person never loved him from beginning to end…

Lu Shangyan jumped off the steps and stood near the finish line. Xia Li had also finished her volunteer work and was already waiting there when Lu Shangyan arrived.

Jian Guo slowly dragged himself across the finish line. In this weather, it was already impressive that his small frame hadn’t collapsed halfway through.

His vision was extremely blurry. After crossing the finish line, he collapsed onto Lu Shangyan: “When I started the first lap, I swore I would let my body know who the master is. I’m going to exhaust myself to death, forcing myself never to think about him again.”

Lu Shangyan nearly failed to catch him. It was Pei Yumin, quick-witted, who supported his waist from behind, preventing him from falling to the ground.

But he didn’t have time to thank Pei Yumin; he immediately checked on Jian Guo’s condition.

It wasn’t until he had sent Jian Guo back to the dorm to rest that he noticed Pei Yumin’s face was ashen. He was angry, and he had been angry for an unknown amount of time.

Lu Shangyan felt baffled, unable to think of anything that might have angered him, until Jian Guo turned over and shouted at Lu Shangyan again: “Find me a boyfriend.”

Only then did Lu Shangyan finally catch a hint of what might have triggered Pei Yumin’s anger.

After Jian Guo fell asleep from exhaustion, Lu Shangyan stepped out, finally having time to explain to Pei Yumin: “Jian Guo and I are just friends.”

Pei Yumin took a deep breath: “I know.”

Now Lu Shangyan was confused: “If you know, why are you still angry?”

Pei Yumin stopped walking: “I’m not angry about that. I’m angry that you don’t take care of your body.”

“I do take care of it,” Lu Shangyan explained. “I signed up for the 200 meters, not the 2000 meters.”

Pei Yumin took a step closer, reaching out to pinch his waist, his thumb pressing on his lower abdomen: “I’m talking about him. You clearly knew you weren’t in the right state today, yet you still went to catch Jian Guo when he lunged at you. If I hadn’t supported you then, you would have fallen to the ground, do you understand?”

“Did you forget everything the doctor said a few days ago? Should I call them to our house today to repeat it until you learn to be careful and put yourself first?”

Lu Shangyan felt guilty after being scolded. He reached out and tugged at Pei Yumin’s sleeve: “I didn’t think much at the time.”

“Besides, there were only Xia Li and me in front of him. Xia Li is a girl, so he could only lunge at me.”

Pei Yumin said, “What about me? I was there too!”

Lu Shangyan looked at him: “You were standing behind me then.”

Pei Yumin wasn’t buying it. He was so angry his teeth were grinding, and he turned his head away, refusing to look at Lu Shangyan.

Lu Shangyan sighed and quietly said, “I’m sorry.”

Pei Yumin’s heart instantly softened. He forgot everything else, pulling Lu Shangyan into a hug and rubbing him for a while: “If there’s a next time, I won’t forgive you.”

Just as they were talking, someone came up the stairs—it was the guy who won the 200-meter race earlier.

He had just experienced the trauma of being bombed by a “cannonball” and had gone to wash his face to calm down. He wanted to return to his dorm to continue cooling off, but instead, he faced a second attack!

He met Pei Yumin’s gaze. Now he couldn’t walk away, nor could he stay. He was so embarrassed his toes were curling. Finally, he forced a smile and greeted them: “You two are very affectionate.”

Pei Yumin nodded: “Yes, we’re getting married soon.”

Lu Shangyan’s face crumpled. He wanted to explain but was too flustered to know how to open his mouth.

A plume of white smoke seemed to rise from the guy’s head.

    Good heavens, a third attack!

He leaned against the wall and slowly walked away with difficulty.

Pei Yumin sincerely lamented: “This person’s physical fitness is not as good as yours. He’s so exhausted after running 200 meters. How did he get first place?”

“Is the gold content of your university sports day champion very high? Worth using stimulants?”

Lu Shangyan turned and walked away: “It’s obvious he was scared by you!”

“I scared him? How is that possible!” Pei Yumin chased after him: “I’m so handsome and charming. Since kindergarten, I’ve benefited greatly from this face. My handsomeness is known far and wide. Later, when I grew up, I became devastatingly handsome. You wouldn’t believe it, when I was your age, I relied on this face…”

    —

The sports day lasted for five days in total. Lu Shangyan didn’t go for the last two days; his attendance was already sufficient.

Furthermore, only the first-place winner from each college needed to compete against other colleges, so there was even less need for him to go. He hadn’t advanced, Jian Guo was last place, and Xia Li was a volunteer, constantly running errands, so she didn’t need his help at all.

The hall for the final day’s award ceremony had limited capacity. He didn’t want to go, so he stayed home, lying down and also tidying up the house.

Unexpectedly, halfway through cleaning, he received a photo from Xia Li.

[Sugar-coated Chestnuts: I thought your boyfriend was just ordinarily rich, I didn’t realize he was the sole successor of Chengyu!]

He clicked on the photo. Pei Yumin was standing on the stage, speaking eloquently, looking cool, noble, indifferent, and detached—completely different from how he was when he was around Lu Shangyan.

[Sugar-coated Chestnuts: My friend in the photography club took a high-definition video. I’ll ask him for it and forward it to you later.]

[Sugar-coated Chestnuts: He was super handsome today!]

[Sugar-coated Chestnuts: Can I cling to your leg from now on? Madam CEO~]

These words swirled in Lu Shangyan’s mind, unable to recombine.

He remembered that Pei Yumin had indeed asked him to help choose a suit today. He had thought it was for an important meeting and hadn’t given it much thought.

Before leaving, Pei Yumin had asked several times if he was going to school, saying they could go together. Lu Shangyan had assumed Pei Yumin was just insisting they go together even if it wasn’t on the way.

But he hadn’t expected that Pei Yumin was actually going to Z University. He had heard Xia Li mention before that Chengyu had donated a lot of money to Z University. After the sports event, someone would come to the school to give a speech, and the school attached great importance to it, preparing for days in advance. Even members of small clubs like Xia Li were pulled in to help for several days.

He just hadn’t expected that person to be Pei Yumin!

He had only guessed before that Pei Yumin’s family was wealthy, but only ordinarily so.

But now it seemed that Pei Yumin’s earlier statement that his whole family were tycoons wasn’t a lie. He had just been unwilling to believe that someone like him would become acquainted, let alone involved, with someone several social strata above him.

He wiped his face and looked at the ring in his palm.

Before, he thought that after receiving a million yuan, if he worked harder, the gap between him and Pei Yumin wouldn’t be too large. If he ran hard, maybe he could catch up to Pei Yumin’s pace.

But now it seemed that this enormous gap couldn’t be closed even if he ran for several lifetimes.

He took off the ring and put it back in the bedside table drawer.

The greater disparity made him feel panicked again, perhaps even inferior.

When Pei Yumin returned, Lu Shangyan happened to receive the video from Xia Li.

He didn’t dare to look at it and immediately closed his phone screen.

Pei Yumin took off his jacket as he spoke: “It was annoying. I told them I didn’t want to go, but my dad insisted. He said it was your school, and it would be meaningful if I went.”

He drank half a glass of water before his throat finally felt better: “However, since you weren’t sitting in the audience this afternoon, I haven’t had a chance to fully grasp the meaning yet.”

Lu Shangyan didn’t reply. He went into the kitchen and brought out the noodles he had spent over an hour preparing, pushing the bowl that clearly looked better toward Pei Yumin.

Pei Yumin instantly came back to life: “Alright, now I’m starting to grasp the meaning.”

At this moment, Pei Yumin didn’t notice anything amiss, until he picked up Lu Shangyan from work that evening and realized Lu Shangyan seemed preoccupied.

He tried asking several times, but Lu Shangyan vaguely brushed him off. He could tolerate it for a day or two, but by the third day, he couldn’t stand it anymore.

As Lu Shangyan was about to get out of the car, Pei Yumin grabbed his hand: “We need to talk tonight. I need to know why you’ve been like this lately.”

“You haven’t been wearing the ring either. Is it because of me?”

Lu Shangyan didn’t dare to look him in the eye, but Pei Yumin looked like he wouldn’t let him leave without an answer. Now, whenever he was with Pei Yumin, he felt restless. He couldn’t find the optimal solution to the problem: “I want to be needed by you.”

Pei Yumin leaned closer: “What did you say?”

Lu Shangyan took the opportunity to push him away, opening the car door and stepping out: “Give me a little more time. I’ll figure it out.”

After speaking, he practically fled, slowing down only after entering the hotel lobby. Fortunately, Pei Yumin didn’t chase after him like before, otherwise, he really would have…

He sighed. Just as he was about to change into his work uniform, he accidentally bumped into someone.

He remembered Pei Yumin’s warning and instinctively protected his stomach. When he regained his senses, the first thing he saw was the man’s flashy gold watch on his wrist.

Then his gaze moved up, and he saw the man’s face. He was slightly overweight, dark-skinned, and looked rather intimidating.

The man complained angrily: “Watch where you’re going! The road is wide enough, how can you still bump into people!”

Lu Shangyan could only lower his head and apologize. The man was still dissatisfied, but the tall woman beside him intervened, and he suppressed his anger, putting his arm around the woman’s waist and getting into the elevator.

Less than half an hour later, someone called the front desk, asking him to deliver takeout.

Li Xiaorui was in the restroom, so Lu Shangyan noted the room number and made the trip. When the door opened, he realized it was the intimidating man, asking him to bring the items inside.

Lu Shangyan could only try his best to avoid the clothes, tissues, and various messy items on the floor, placing the bag on a nearby table.

He left quickly, in less than two minutes.

He spent the entire night in a daze, still unable to figure out how to talk to Pei Yumin. Pei Yumin had clearly told him everything early on. It was his fault for not understanding, and now being so difficult seemed overly dramatic.

    But he couldn’t pretend he didn’t know…

He finally made it to the end of his shift, preparing to avoid Pei Yumin for another day, when the intimidating man rushed out wearing only a towel.

He grabbed Lu Shangyan’s wrist: “You think you can steal something and run! You’ve been staring at my watch since I walked in. You took the opportunity to steal it when you came in to deliver the food, didn’t you!”

Lu Shangyan quickly shook his head: “I haven’t seen your belongings.”

The man looked him up and down, seeing the bulge in his stomach, and then said: “You hid it in your waistband, didn’t you! Lift your shirt, let me see!”
