The Flower Of The High Mountain Is Pregnant With The Son Of The Sand Sculpture Ceo Chapter 26
byChapter 26 Lu Shangyan is Mine
The mix-up, to some extent, still affected Lu Shangyan, so he could only try harder to distract himself, hoping to dispel the fear of the unknown.
With exams approaching, and summer vacation right around the corner, most of his part-time jobs had stopped. Only the hotel front desk, Shi Yu, and Dong Shufan remained, but he had temporarily taken a week off from those three as well.
It was exactly six days from now until the exams finished. He still had one day to go to the hospital for a check-up. If it wasn’t anything serious, he would work for another month, earn enough money, and return to his hometown.
The clearer he planned his life, the more peaceful and secure he felt.
He looked over his schedule and the calculated list of part-time earnings repeatedly before tucking them into the last page of his notebook. Then, he buried himself back in his studies.
Classes had ended, and he had moved out of the dorms, so he spent every day immersed in the library. Since he didn’t have a part-time job during lunch, he didn’t return to his rented apartment. This way, Pei Yumin didn’t need to pick him up and make him lunch, and Pei Yumin could get some rest from all the back-and-forth hassle.
He hadn’t been reading for long before his mind drifted to Pei Yumin.
Money used to be extremely important to him, and the scholarship was a considerable sum. Therefore, when he was studying, attending class, or preparing for exams, no one could ever distract him.
Pei Yumin was the first.
This realization struck him as very strange.
He pressed his index finger against his forehead, rubbing it back and forth several times. Figuring out things related to Pei Yumin was at least dozens of times harder than winning the school’s top scholarship.
While he was thinking, the phone on his desk cooled. For the past two days, Pei Yumin had been sending him messages punctually at 1:30 PM, asking what he had eaten for lunch.
Now, he couldn’t focus on the book at all. He pushed it aside, picked up his phone, and began the arduous task of typing.
His phone had been slow since sophomore year, and now that junior year was over, it was infuriatingly laggy.
It took five seconds just to register a single press, so he could only reply very concisely:
[s: Clear soup noodles.]
It was light, not heavily flavored, comfortable for his stomach, and didn’t make him nauseous when he smelled it. He had been eating it for two days straight.
Pei Yumin had been staring at his phone since sending the message. Lu Shangyan’s reply came quickly:
[m: Took you so long to type, I thought you were going to send the entire Manchu Han Imperial Feast.]
After sending it, he remembered Lu Shangyan’s broken phone, which he had long wanted to secretly throw away, and immediately hit retract.
After retracting, he consoled himself: It’s a good thing the phone is broken; it gives him many chances to salvage things.
[s: Today I added a tea egg. I finished it all.]
Another minute passed.
[s: What did you send and retract? I can’t see it.]
Pei Yumin didn’t reply, only stiffly changing the subject:
[m: What time are you staying at the library today? I’ll come pick you up.]
Normally, the library closed at 11:30 PM, but it stayed open during exam week.
Lu Shangyan thought for a moment:
[s: It will be very late. You don’t need to wait for me.]
Since childhood, he had been the smart and diligent child praised by teachers. Many happy, well-adjusted families would use him as an example of a resilient child from a difficult background after hearing his story.
But no one cared about how much effort he put in behind the scenes. Furthermore, he didn’t want to be labeled “resilient” just because he lacked a family, so he didn’t want any of those compliments.
He pursed his lips. Lately, besides frequently getting distracted by thoughts of Pei Yumin, he had also become particularly emotional, often feeling distressed over old memories.
Lu Shangyan took a deep breath. When he raised his eyes again, a new emoji appeared on the screen.
Pei Yumin must have secretly photoshopped it while slacking off at work that morning. Around his head was a cute, chibi shark, his lower body transformed into a shark tail, and his fins were clasped together in front. He had thoughtfully enlarged his eyes to be big and round, making him look especially innocent and harmless, and added two fake tears.
Lu Shangyan zoomed in on the image, secretly screenshotted it, and saved it to his own emoji collection.
Pei Yumin’s voice message came through: “Let me come, please.”
His voice trailed off, sounding less like a plea and more like simple coaxing.
Lu Shangyan was in the library and had plugged in his earphones early, fearing his phone might ring uncontrollably. The earphones were old, and the wires were tangled.
He played the voice message, listening three times until his ears felt numb.
[s: Then I’ll go back earlier. Is eleven o’clock okay? Will that be too late?]
Pei Yumin tasted the sweetness of success and continued with another voice message: “You don’t need to accommodate me. I’ll come find you after I get off work. I promise to sit quietly next to you and not disturb you. You can study until whatever time you want.”
“I’m not good at studying; I only got this far because of my parents. You have no idea how much I envy how smart you are. If I were as capable as you, I probably would have started my own successful business by now.”
Lu Shangyan felt his face flush, and he saved these two voice messages as well.
[s: Okay, I’m on the third floor of the library, in the corner by the window.]
Pei Yumin replied with a laugh, his voice sounding sweet: “Great, thank you, great scholar, for giving me a chance to keep you company~”
But his smile quickly vanished.
He had left work early and gone home to spend a full hour getting ready, changing clothes over ten times. After all, he was pursuing Lu Shangyan now, and blatant seduction was an important part of the plan.
Moreover, he was Lu Shangyan’s future boyfriend; he needed to make sure Lu Shangyan looked good in front of his classmates.
However, after all that effort getting dressed up, he arrived to find people sitting next to and across from Lu Shangyan. It was a four-person table, and when he sat down, he felt like the outsider.
Sitting across from him was Xia Li, Lu Shangyan’s former admirer. Pei Yumin clutched his chest.
He was also familiar with the person sitting on Lu Shangyan’s left—the Z University student Tang Suicheng always mentioned. The two had been quite close recently.
Yet now, this person was sitting right next to Lu Shangyan, discussing problems and laughing with him. They were talking about things Pei Yumin couldn’t understand, and Lu Shangyan had a smile in his eyes. Ten minutes passed without any sign of them stopping.
Pei Yumin secretly gritted his teeth and messaged Tang Suicheng:
[m: Hurry up and come to school to pick up your boyfriend! He is seriously disrupting my boyfriend’s studies!]
Fearing Tang Suicheng wouldn’t see the message in time, he secretly turned off the volume, sent a vibrating call, and hung up after two seconds, making no sound.
He narrowed his eyes. This was the attitude of a prospective boyfriend—doing everything not to disturb Lu Shangyan.
Tang Suicheng was woken up by the frequent vibrations and messaged back in a hoarse voice: “I have many boyfriends. Which one are you talking about?”
After waking up a bit, he remembered: “That… Guoguo? We broke up a long time ago.”
Pei Yumin had been completely unaware of this, but now that he knew, alarm bells went off in his mind.
[m: Why didn’t you tell me about such a big thing sooner! He’s trying to hook up with my boyfriend right now!]
After sending the message, he slammed his phone face down on the desk, grabbed Lu Shangyan’s wrist, and drew the attention of everyone at the table.
Once he was sure they could all hear him, he looked directly at his potential love rivals and declared, “Excuse me, Lu Shangyan is mine.”
