Chapter 20 Why Did You Steal a Kiss?

Tian Sheng was furious seeing Chen Shuo’s unrepentant attitude: “How many times have I told you not to clash with Lu Shangyan again? Why won’t you listen at all!”

Chen Shuo leaned back in the passenger seat, turning his head away impatiently when he heard this: “Why not? You keep saying I can’t afford to provoke him, but I’ve been bullying him for over two years, and I haven’t seen him do anything to me.”

“You said he has someone backing him, but you haven’t been able to name who it is for so long. I think you and my dad are just overly cautious! What’s so scary about Lu Shangyan? Last time at the police station, my dad spoke up for him and even made me apologize to him! It’s because of that that Lu Shangyan dared to scheme against me today, along with his lowlife friends!”

“If you’re scared, then you stay away from now on. Anyway, the suffering I endured this time, I must get back double, otherwise, he’ll just keep walking all over me!”

Tian Sheng watched him, chin tilted up to the sky, eyes wide and utterly unrepentant, and a surge of irrational anger rose within him. Unable to hold back, he slapped the back of Chen Shuo’s head.

He didn’t hold back any strength. The pain made Chen Shuo clutch his head and involuntarily hunch over. The look in his eyes when he turned to Tian Sheng had changed.

Meeting his gaze, Tian Sheng felt a sudden wave of frustration: “You’ve caused so much trouble, big and small, at school. Which time did you come to me and I didn’t side with you or help you smooth things over?”

“Just like you said, Lu Shangyan and you have been at odds for over two years. Which time did I advise against it and make you feel wronged? Isn’t it because this time you truly can’t afford to provoke him? He has someone behind him! Otherwise, if he was just a poor kid from a small place, and he made you suffer such a huge loss today, I would have already found a way to make him disappear!”

Chen Shuo pursed his lips and sat back properly: “Then tell me, who exactly is the person behind him?”

Tian Sheng opened his mouth, radiating frustration: “I don’t know.”

That was the most dangerous part. If they truly provoked him, he wouldn’t even know who to approach to beg for mercy for Chen Shuo!

Chen Shuo gave him a deep look, cursed under his breath, and sent a message to his mother:

[Mom, Uncle has completely defected too. Now only you can help me.]

    The other party quickly replied:

    [Wait for me at home.]

Chen Shuo regained his confidence. In his view, the only powerful people someone like Lu Shangyan could possibly contact were the school leaders. Because he was a good student and often represented the school in competitions and won awards, he had a lot of contact with the school leaders, and thus managed to hook up with one of them.

And his biological uncle, for the sake of his own promotion and iron rice bowl, didn’t dare to fall out with the higher-ups, so he refused to name the person and wanted Chen Shuo to let the matter rest.

As for his father, he had always looked down on him.

Chen Hongfei, at any time, for the sake of so-called company development, never stood up straight. He was always begging and pleading, and never once backed Chen Shuo up.

When he was little, he got into a fight with another child in kindergarten. The first thing his father did when he was called was to make him apologize to the other party, completely ignoring the fact that the other child had first knocked over his blocks and then kicked his butt.

When he got home, he was unconvinced and cried as he explained the whole story, but Chen Hongfei still scolded him, saying he had provoked someone he shouldn’t have. That child’s father was the secretary of his current business partner, and if that person said a few words to the boss, the deal they were about to secure would be gone!

In his father’s words, there were too many people Chen Shuo couldn’t afford to provoke, couldn’t mess with. Chen Hongfei always demanded that he back down everywhere, so Chen Shuo became increasingly rebellious. He absolutely had to see who exactly he couldn’t afford to provoke!

Later, as he got older, he learned to read the room and knew his mother had married down, so when he got into trouble, he didn’t go to Chen Hongfei; he went to his mother.

He just hadn’t expected that this time Lu Shangyan would involve his father, and his father, just like many years before, forced him to apologize the moment he saw him.

What was even harder for him to accept was that his own uncle, who had always protected him, was now choosing to abandon him for his own self-interest! Now, no one was willing to stand behind him and back him up regardless of the consequences—only his mother.

He closed his eyes, feeling his eyelids burn.

Lu Shangyan’s eyes were also red when he returned, not because he was touched by Pei Yumin’s firm public support today, but because his eyes had been poked by Pei Yumin’s lips!

The warm sensation on his eyelids was still there. He even felt like Pei Yumin’s mouth was poisonous, otherwise, why would it blur his vision and numb his brain nerves, leaving him unable to think clearly, everything in chaos!

He huddled in the passenger seat, not daring to look up at Pei Yumin, and even less daring to turn around and talk to the people in the back.

Zhao Jian had put his wig back on, and Xia Li thoughtfully took out his own compact powder for him to touch up his makeup: “I must praise you highly in front of Da Yu this time!”

Lu Shangyan had just learned why Xia Li called Shi Yu “Da Yu”—because Shi Yu was on top, the “Big Woman” in Xia Li’s heart.

    On top…

Lu Shangyan lowered his head, quickly glancing at Pei Yumin from the corner of his eye.

Pei Yumin had also been on top the last time at the hotel when things got heated.

Thinking of this, his pupils dilated. He looked completely flustered, burying his head even lower, even more afraid to look at Pei Yumin.

Zhao Jian’s voice continued: “Then you must praise me well. A Yu has been so focused on work lately that she hasn’t been able to do me.”

Xia Li “tsk”ed, saying deliberately, word for word: “Watch your language!”

In his opinion, Lu Shangyan was still innocent, a young gay man who hadn’t experienced the world and didn’t know how to protect himself, otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so easily caught by Chen Shuo.

Zhao Jian chuckled a few times: “Come on, you know just as much as I do.”

Xia Li ignored him. Fortunately, they finally arrived at the location arranged with Shi Yu.

Zhao Jian got out of the car, limping toward Shi Yu: “You have no idea how brave I was just now! I almost got disfigured protecting your employee!”

As he spoke, he showed her the scratch on his face, which was actually caused by a stranger’s zipper when he was tossed up in the air while receiving praise: “But this is my medal. Even if it leaves a scar, I won’t regret it!”

Xia Li was going to help out at Shi Yu’s shop, so he got out of the car with Zhao Jian and rode in Shi Yu’s car to the shop, telling her about Zhao Jian’s “glorious deeds” along the way.

Through the car window, Lu Shangyan saw Shi Yu cup Zhao Jian’s face and kiss his reddened cheek, comforting him softly: “Aiya, our little butterfly was so brave today.”

Lu Shangyan tensed up all over, quietly watching them get into the car. Zhao Jian kept chattering until they drove away, and only then did Lu Shangyan finally withdraw his gaze.

Zhao Jian and Shi Yu were dating, so Shi Yu could kiss him in front of many people. But why did Pei Yumin kiss him just now?

Lu Shangyan hesitated several times, finally deciding when they turned a corner and he saw the tree where he had fought with Chen Shuo.

The shadow of the tree flashed past, and he finally made up his mind, asking quietly: “When we were at the milk tea shop just now, why did you steal a kiss from me?”
