Chapter 18: The Pure-Hearted Young Man

Lu Shangyan’s steps halted, his gaze cutting through the crowd toward Chen Shuo.

Pei Yumin grabbed his arm, his face a picture of shock, and shouted dramatically, “So this student Chen is actually deeply closeted!”

His voice drew the attention of many people. Even those who hadn’t noticed Chen Shuo before now stopped and looked over.

Lu Shangyan felt the back of his neck flush. He moved half a meter away, wanting no part in the situation. Pei Yumin, however, seemed completely oblivious to his discomfort and raised his voice further: “He even got someone to track him down at school! How shameless!”

He mimicked the exaggerated expressions and tones of gossiping aunties in a village drama. Lu Shangyan tilted his head, his eyes full of curiosity: “Pei Yumin, are you running a fever again?”

Pei Yumin winked at him, leaning close to his ear and lowering his voice to a whisper: “How could I be getting excited in this kind of situation?”

He wasn’t the kind of extremely casual man who got aroused just by seeing two men being intimate. He was a pure-hearted little vir— a little man.

Besides, to protect his eyes, he didn’t even watch adult films; he only read CEO novels on a certain green website.

All these facts combined proved that he was at least a hundred times more morally upright and self-respecting than Chen Shuo.

Lu Shangyan didn’t know what he was thinking, only that his expression suddenly turned smug. Lu Shangyan glanced around, clutching his backpack, wanting to take a shortcut and leave quickly. Based on his past experience, nothing good ever happened when he ran into Chen Shuo, and with so many people watching now, it would only get worse.

Pei Yumin, seeing him about to leave, grabbed his wrist instead: “Wait and watch. What’s the rush? He’s always saying nasty things to you. How can we not seize this chance to step on him and vent our frustration?”

Lu Shangyan explained, “Actually, he always repeats the same few insults. Besides, what he says is true: my parents are gone, and I do like men. I’ve heard these things since I was little, so I’m used to it. Moreover, whenever I clash with him, I always get my own back right then and there. He never really gets the upper hand.”

Pei Yumin retracted his sharp, expectant gaze from Chen Shuo and looked back at Lu Shangyan: “Hearing you say that, it’s quite heartbreaking.”

Lu Shangyan pursed his lips, lowered his eyes, and said nothing more, the shadow of his eyelashes falling onto his cheeks. Pei Yumin couldn’t resist reaching up and touching him lightly, but he quickly pulled his hand away. It was so fleeting that if his hand hadn’t still been hovering in the air, Lu Shangyan would have thought he’d imagined it.

Lu Shangyan tilted his head slightly to look at him: “What is it?”

Pei Yumin whispered, “Poor little thing.”

Lu Shangyan blinked a few times, deciding not to leave just yet.

Pei Yumin stared at him for a moment longer. Just as he was about to say something about protecting him, fantasizing about Lu Shangyan becoming emotional and seizing the chance for a kiss that would seal their relationship—

Chen Shuo’s furious roar broke the fragile moment of ambiguity.

“I told you, you have the wrong person! Now get lost!”

The other person was truly like a little imp, clinging to Chen Shuo no matter how much he pushed.

Chen Shuo was so angry that the veins on his face bulged, his whole body turning purple with rage: “What the hell do you want!”

The boy flashed an ambiguous, shallow smile: “I already messaged you last night about what I want. You know everything perfectly well. Do you really want me to say it again in front of all these people?”

Chen Shuo’s expression became unnatural: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You definitely know.” The young man pressed his face close to Chen Shuo’s: “You even called me ‘Little Fish’ in bed. You messed around with me all night, and you were still talking about me when you left the next day.”

Seeing the crowd of onlookers grow after class, Chen Shuo became more frantic: “Who said that! Do you have proof!”

Little Fish giggled: “I have proof on my phone. Do you want to see it now? I not only took photos, but I also recorded several videos.”

“There’s even a clip of you confessing your love to me in front of the camera and kissing my little belly. Do you want to watch the video? Should I help you remember?”

As soon as the words fell, Chen Shuo’s face instantly turned red and then white, looking terribly strange: “Don’t talk nonsense!”

Afraid that Little Fish would reveal more, he quickly added: “You want money, right? How much? I’ll give it to you now! Stop slandering me here!”

With his usual personality, he would never admit defeat or take a loss; he would fight the other party to the end. But now, Little Fish hadn’t even released the so-called evidence, and Chen Shuo had already “backed down.”

Everyone who knew him could tell that this time, Chen Shuo was different. Lu Shangyan even commented, “It seems real.”

Pei Yumin nodded: “He’s bisexual and yet he has the nerve to talk about you. At least you dare to admit it, but him? He just hides like a turtle!”

Lu Shangyan straightened his back. He was no longer in a hurry to leave and stood watching Chen Shuo from a distance.

Little Fish said, “I don’t want money. I told you, either you become my boyfriend, or you sleep with me again until I get tired of you.”

Chen Shuo ground his teeth: “I don’t like men!”

Pei Yumin seized the opportunity: “You don’t like men? If you don’t like men, why were you holding him so tightly, calling him ‘little imp’ and ‘Little Fish’? Don’t you feel ashamed saying that?”

Chen Shuo found an opening and immediately directed his anger at him: “Are you two plotting against me behind my back!”

Pei Yumin retorted, “I don’t have time to deal with your affairs.”

Lu Shangyan also spoke up: “When something happens, look for the reason within yourself first. Don’t push the blame onto others!”

Pei Yumin lifted his chin, looking smugly triumphant. Chen Shuo sneered even harder: “If it’s not you two, who else could it be! You’re both homosexuals. Only you two would come up with this kind of trick to target me!”

Pei Yumin stepped in front of Lu Shangyan: “Stop slandering us. We like men, but our values are fine, and our character is fine. Unlike you? You mock every dog you see on the street for not being as tall as you. A guy like you, who looks down on everyone, is the one most likely to use these underhanded tactics to bully people!”

Chen Shuo tried to retaliate, but Little Fish didn’t give him the chance: “Young Master Chen, why don’t you answer my question first? I’m in a hurry to leave.”

Chen Shuo couldn’t vent his frustration and felt like he was going crazy: “You must have colluded! I don’t admit to this! You’ve slept with so many men, go find them, and stop bothering me!”

Little Fish narrowed his eyes: “Chen Shuo, that’s not fair.”

Pei Yumin finally found the loophole in his words: “You admitted it. You and Little Fish really slept together.”

Chen Shuo’s pupils dilated, realizing belatedly what he had just said.

Little Fish looked at Pei Yumin, raising an eyebrow: “Not only that. The reason I remember him so clearly is that other men know to give gifts, but he only wanted to get a free ride. He even ran off after waking up, and I had to pay for the room. I’ve never met such a stingy man.”

“I know he hadn’t slept with a man before, but when he was with me, he didn’t show any signs of homophobia at all. I found it novel, so I couldn’t forget him, and I even chased him here. I also wanted to see if he would always be this cheap.”

He smiled innocently and harmlessly, completely unlike the sharp, quick-witted person who had climbed his way up in the pleasure industry: “I’ve said my piece. So, Chen Shuo, I’ve given you two choices. You must pick one today, or I will keep chasing you.”
