    Chapter 91 Heartbeat

    The office door closed gently.

Almost at the same moment the door lock clicked, Lu Qingrang lowered his head and gently pressed his forehead against Xu Wen’s shoulder. His soft hair rubbed against the side of Xu Wen’s neck, causing a slightly itchy touch.

“Hug.” His voice was soft and dependent, and his breath brushed Xu Wen’s ears.

Xu Wen didn’t hesitate at all. He opened his arms almost habitually, accepted the hug indulgently, and let Lu Qingrang’s arms wrap around him.

He raised his hand, gently patted Lu Qingrang’s back, and softened his voice: “I’m here, Brother Lu.”

Lu Qingrang buried his whole body into Xu Wen’s shoulder and tightened his arms.

In the tight hug, the corners of Lu Qingrang’s mouth slightly curved, and his voice was slightly hoarse, and he whispered intermittently: “Obviously, it was clearly found that he was from the Nangong family, I didn’t expect that…”

The complex emotions in these words made Xu Wen feel weak.

His patting movements became gentler, and his tone was firm: “It’s not your fault, do you hear me? Don’t get into trouble yourself, don’t allow internal friction.”

There was a muffled response with a nasal voice coming from the hollow of the shoulder: “Hmm…”

Xu Wen patiently coaxed him for a while, until he felt the arms around him loosened slightly.

After Lu Qingrang sat down and his expression seemed to be calm, Xu Wen returned to his seat.

However, he was a little worried after all. When handling work, he couldn’t help but pay attention to Lu Qingrang’s movements over there, and his efficiency was inevitably lower.

That worry made him a little upset. He subconsciously picked up his phone and moved his fingertips unconsciously across the screen, trying to find something to relax, but he didn’t know where to start.

Just when I was aimless, a local news notification popped up.

[A large-scale fireworks show in the south of City A will bloom brightly at 20:00 tonight!】

    Xu Wen’s eyes lit up.

All in all, after returning to City A, the two of them have been working at home and at work almost all the time. They are busy dealing with various things and barely have any decent rest.

Isn’t this a good opportunity?I’ll take Brother Lu to watch the fireworks in the evening, enjoy the breeze, change the environment, and I should feel better.

He immediately raised his head and looked at Lu Qingrang with some expectation: “Brother Lu, I read on the Internet that there will be a fireworks show in the south of the city tonight. Let’s go and see it after work. How about taking a break?”

Lu Qing asked Wen Sheng to stop typing on the keyboard, look up at him, put a gentle smile on his lips, and nodded: “Okay.”

Seeing that he readily agreed and looked normal, Xu Wen felt a stone fall in his heart. He couldn’t help but reveal a relaxed smile on his face, and he was finally able to calm down and get back to work.

    ———-

The winter night in City A was lit up by countless neon lights, and there was a bit of chill in the air, but it couldn’t dispel the excitement in the square.

Xu Wen and Lu Qingrang got off work early and were strolling side by side in the square in the south of the city.

The two of them had no clear destination, and just took a walk according to their mood, until more and more people gathered around them, and the noise gradually became louder.

“Brother Lu, we have been back to City A for so long, and it seems we have never had a good stroll like this.” Xu Wen turned his head and said in a brisk tone, “Don’t think about anything today, just take a walk to relax.”

“Yes.” Lu Qingrang responded, his eyes sweeping over the growing crowd around him, his voice gentle, “There are more and more people.”

“Is it almost time?” Xu Wen also noticed the gradually crowded crowd.

“Almost.” Lu Qingrang glanced at the phone screen.

Both of them were wearing well-tailored dark woolen coats. Their slender and tall figures stood out among the crowd, attracting passers-by’s glances from time to time.

They walked slowly side by side, chatting about interesting things and plans for tomorrow.

Xu Wen’s steps suddenly stopped, and almost at the same time, Lu Qingrang also stopped.

“Let me check the specific time.” Xu Wen muttered, “Why hasn’t it started yet?” He took out his mobile phone from his pocket and just lowered his head to light up the screen——

    “Bang!”

A dull loud noise pierced the night sky, as if it exploded directly in the ears.

Xu Wen felt his wrist being gently held by a warm palm.

    “It’s begun.”

Xu Wen immediately stuffed his phone back into his pocket and raised his head suddenly.

A huge golden firework is blooming, shining brightly.Immediately afterwards, the second, third… countless colorful fireworks burst into bloom, and the strong light illuminated the originally dark night sky again and again, reflecting on the countless upturned faces below.

Xu Wen was attracted by this grand scene and stared at the sky blankly.

But at some point, his eyes had quietly dropped while looking at the fireworks, and stopped uncontrollably on the side of Lu Qingrang’s face next to him.

Lu Qingrang was looking up at the sky intently. When he noticed Xu Wen’s movements, he naturally lowered his eyes and looked back.

The moment their eyes met, Xu Wen’s breathing stagnated slightly.

He clearly saw that Lu Qingrang’s beautiful peach blossom eyes were reflecting the brilliance of the sky, and the light was flickering in the depths of his pupils, just like the stars in the sky.

And in the center of the starry sky, he was reflected.

That Xu Wen was looking at Lu Qingrang blankly.

Lu Qingrang’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and his eyes reflecting the glory and Xu Wen slowly curved, outlining a gentle arc, which was more dazzling than any fireworks in the sky.

    So beautiful.

This thought came to mind without warning.

For a moment, Xu Wen felt as if the mute button had been pressed on the world around him.

The noise of the crowd, the roar of fireworks, and all the noisy background sounds quickly faded away, becoming blurry and distant.

In his field of vision, only Lu Qingrang’s face was close at hand, and the gentle smile in his eyes remained.

It was in this sudden silence that another sound became deafening, that was the extremely violent heartbeat coming from his own chest.

    “Plop-plop-”

One after another, heavy and rapid, hitting his eardrums hard.

Xu Wen subconsciously raised his hand and pressed it on his heart. The uncontrollable beating under his palm made him panic.

It seems like something is wrong.

He was so immersed in this physiological reaction and inner confusion that when Lu Qingrang’s concerned voice sounded in his ears, he slowed down for half a beat.

    “What’s wrong, Xu Wen?”

Xu Wen just stared blankly at the face in front of him that made his heart beat out of control, and shook his head in confusion.

Fireworks still bloomed brilliantly in the night sky, illuminating his confused eyebrows.

A question that has been pressing in my heart for a long time is constantly circling and amplifying:

In the end, what is wrong?
