    Chapter 6 Going Home

Xu Wen stayed glued to his precious, fragile charge for two full days. Seeing that the various vital signs had finally struggled back into the range of barely healthy, he immediately set about handling the discharge procedures.

The doctor stood nearby, earnestly advising, “Please observe him for a few more days. The patient is severely malnourished, and his constitution is too weak. Discharging him now carries a significant risk.”

Xu Wen sighed internally, feeling helpless. Of course, he wanted this esteemed gentleman to stay until the end of time, perfectly healthy! But the reality was, the emergency rescue plus these two days of hospitalization had completely drained his meager savings.

Furthermore, he didn’t dare leave the room for a second, terrified that the moment he stepped out, this ancestor would try to take his own life.

As for the malnutrition… Xu Wen glanced at the silent person on the hospital bed. For the past two days, let alone drinking porridge, he would vomit up even water. It was only by gritting his teeth and cooperating with the nurses to force-feed him glucose repeatedly that they had managed to keep this ancestor barely alive.

    “Lu Zong, shall we… go?”

Xu Wen leaned closer, his tone extremely gentle and laced with utmost caution, his eyes fixed on Lu Qingrang, watching for any subtle reaction.

As expected, the man leaned back motionless, enveloped by a silence more profound than the smell of disinfectant. Forget responding, he wouldn’t even grant a glance.

Xu Wen looked at the unresponsive Lu Qingrang and sighed silently. Ignoring any concerns about propriety between two men, he bent down, wrapping one arm around the slender waist and scooping the other beneath the knees. With a slight exertion of force, he lifted the man into his arms once more.

Well, the second princess carry of his life was still not dedicated to a soft, cute girl, but to this handsome man radiating brokenness. Xu Wen silently complained that this plot development was completely irrelevant to his dream of Domestic Bliss.

The weight in his arms was still alarmingly light, like holding a pile of bones about to fall apart. The man didn’t even struggle or react, completely passive.

Xu Wen lowered his head, looking at the pale face in his arms, whose refined contours were still evident. A faint pang of heartache crossed his mind. He didn’t dare delay, quickly walking to the borrowed wheelchair and carefully settling Lu Qingrang into it.

    “Lu Zong, hold on tight.”

He adjusted his tone, deliberately adopting a slightly exaggerated cheerfulness, like coaxing a child. “We’re going home now!”

Lu Qingrang, who had been silent like a doll, moved his head slightly. He raised his eyelids a fraction, his gaze finally resting briefly on the young man beside him.

The young man was tall and lean, but the continuous exhaustion of the past few days made him look even more gaunt and tired. His overly long hair was messy, a faint blue stubble dotted his chin, and his clothes were wrinkled. If not for the gentle, handsome face holding up his appearance, he would look almost indistinguishable from a vagrant.

    “…What is he after?”

An extremely faint thought surfaced in his long-stagnant mind.

    “…Why insist on saving me?”

This brief confusion lasted only a moment.

    “…Forget it.”

He lowered his eyelashes again, shutting out all emotions, leaving only a cold decision in his heart.

    “I’ll wait until he’s not around… then I’ll die.”

Xu Wen pushed the wheelchair, slowly moving Lu Qingrang out of the hospital building. Along the way, he continued to chatter, spouting dry, motivational platitudes that even he found tedious. The person in the wheelchair remained as unresponsive as he had been for the past few days, like an exquisite but soulless doll.

Xu Wen shut up, only able to complain frantically in his mind as usual. But the damned System, ever since answering who he was last time, had completely played dead, always blocking him with the same line:

This System only provides basic consultation, special event notifications, and Redemption Value reminders. No response will be given to other unrelated content.

Xu Wen had no choice but to resign himself to continuing to look after this porcelain doll. In this unfamiliar world, he was all alone, and the only person he could claim any connection to was this half-dead, villainous beauty whom he had forcibly bound himself to.

He pushed Lu Qingrang outside the building, bent down again, and skillfully lifted the man into his arms, heading toward his battered little electric scooter.

“Lu Zong, we’re heading back now,” Xu Wen muttered worriedly as he settled the man onto the back seat, acting like an anxious old father. “You must sit tight, and don’t even think about jumping off. If you jump, we might actually end up holding hands on the way to the Underworld, and that’s a sight too beautiful for me to imagine.”

He had wanted to take a taxi, but he couldn’t bear to abandon his scooter, nor did he dare let Lu Qingrang leave his sight for more than a meter, so he had to resort to this plan.

He repeated his instructions until he saw Lu Qingrang’s head nod slightly downward, then he secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, this gentleman hadn’t yet entertained the idea of dragging him along for a mutual demise.

Xu Wen straddled the front seat. Two tall, long-legged men, even though both were lean, looked particularly cramped on the small scooter. Lu Qingrang’s chest inevitably pressed tightly against Xu Wen’s back, and his long legs had to be slightly curled due to the lack of space, his inner knees resting against Xu Wen’s side.

Xu Wen could even clearly feel the outline of the other man’s bones, and the slightly cool body temperature transmitted through the thin fabric.

“Luckily this scooter is small enough.”

Xu Wen thought, finding humor in his misery. “Otherwise, if Lu Qingrang just lifted his leg and jumped off, I probably wouldn’t even react in time.”

The little scooter started with a whir, and the wind instantly messed up their hair. The wind carried the lingering scent of hospital disinfectant, along with the unpleasant odor they had both accumulated over the past few days. Xu Wen squinted in the wind, his heart issuing a firm declaration:

The first thing to do when they got home was to take a thorough shower!
