    Chapter 48 Change

Xu Wen was awakened by a heavy and disordered breathing sound.

He opened his eyes, and with the faint light outside the window, he saw Lu Qingrang trembling and struggling to get out of bed.

It was an almost collapsed look that he hadn’t seen in a long time.

    Xu Wen’s heart sank suddenly.

He immediately sat up and used all his strength to half-hug Lu Qingrang and push him back to the bed: “Brother Lu?! What’s wrong with you?”

He shouted several times, but Lu Qingrang seemed completely unable to hear him.

The eyes that were always silent were now empty and out of focus, the lips were cyanotic, and only intermittent and broken gasping sounds could be made from the throat, as if he had forgotten to even take a complete breath.

Fortunately, Lu Qingrang had seen this situation several times during his most depressed days.

Xu Wen immediately sat astride his lap, holding the back of his head firmly with one hand, and gently covering his cold lips with the other.

“Calm down, Brother Lu.” His voice was surprisingly calm, “Follow me.”

    “Exhale-”

    “Breathe in-”

Xu Wen repeated the guidance tirelessly, until the rapid breathing under his palm gradually subsided, and the trembling body finally calmed down.

He gently stroked Lu Qingrang’s forehead covered in cold sweat over and over again, feeling the tight muscles under his hands relax little by little.

In the darkness, he could clearly hear the gradually synchronized heartbeats and breathing of the two of them.

    “Brother Lu.”

“What’s wrong? Is it a nightmare?”

Xu Wen’s voice was very soft, filled with lingering worries.

Lu Qingrang closed his eyes. His thick eyelashes were still wet and sticky. He turned his head and said in a low and broken voice: “It’s okay…”

    “What’s wrong!”

“You looked like you were fine just now? What happened? Tell me.”

Xu Wen’s tone became urgent, he held his face and forced him to look at him.

Lu Qing let his Adam’s apple roll, avoiding his scorching gaze, and uttered a few words with difficulty: “I forgot. It’s just… the same nightmare as before.”

“How long has it been since you’ve been like this?”

“Do you think I’m a fool?!”

    “Lu Qingrang!”

“Look at me! What’s wrong with you?! I want to hear the truth!”

Xu Wen’s voice suddenly increased, with a stern tone, and he stared closely at the other person’s twinkling eyes.

Lu Qingrang was shaken by his fierce shouting, and the composure he had maintained was completely shattered.

He raised his head suddenly, tears welling up without warning, mixed with wet cold sweat.

    “I’m sorry”

    “I’m sorry Xu Wen, I didn’t mean to scare you, I’m sorry…”

His voice was shaking, and he was speaking incoherently like a child who had done something wrong.

He repeated his apology over and over again, as if he could say nothing else except these three words.

Those eyes that were always silent were now filled with pain and fear, and tears kept rolling down, wetting the clothes of the two of them.

Lu Qingrang subconsciously clenched Xu Wen’s sleeves, his knuckles trembling with force, as if this was the only piece of driftwood he could hold on to.

Xu Wen was stunned by this sudden collapse.

He had never seen Lu Qingrang looking so fragile and helpless, and all the questions he had prepared were stuck in his throat.

Xu Wen gently wiped away the tears that kept rolling down with his fingertips.

But the tears seemed to be unstoppable. As soon as one line was wiped away, new ones came out.

He wiped it patiently over and over again, as gently as if he were dealing with some fragile treasure.

The voice was very soft and soft, with a coaxing warmth:

    “Don’t apologize.”

“Brother Lu, it’s okay. Just tell me, just say it.”

    “Huh?”

He stared at those eyes blurred by tears and repeated the original promise clearly and firmly word for word:

“Lu Qingrang, look at me and listen to me -”

    “I’m here for you.”

    “You have to believe me.”

The moment Xu Wen finished saying this, Lu Qingrang seemed to have been triggered by a switch. He suddenly stretched out his arms and pulled Xu Wen into his arms with an almost brutal force.

His arms hugged Xu Wen’s back tightly, so hard that he almost crushed the person in his arms.

Xu Wen was stiffened by this sudden hug and subconsciously did not dare to move.

But then, he heard Lu Qingrang burying her face in the crook of his neck and explaining intermittently in a choked and broken voice:

“I dreamed that you were missing.”

“I can’t find it no matter how hard I look…Xu Wen, I’m so scared.”

His voice was filled with lingering panic and a thick nasal sound, and his warm breath brushed the side of Xu Wen’s neck:

    “Don’t leave me…please”

This almost pleading tone was like a soft thorn, accurately piercing the softest place in Xu Wen’s heart.First, there was a slight pain, and then my heart softened. I actually felt that Lu Qing was… a little cute like this.

He had never seen Lu Qingrang show weakness and dependence so straightforwardly.

Xu Wen no longer hesitated, raised his arms and hugged the other person hard, his palms caressing his back that was trembling slightly due to choking.

    “No.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Brother Lu. I’m right here, by your side.”

His voice was firm yet gentle, with reassuring power.

Xu Wen felt the person in his arms holding him tighter, as if to confirm his existence, so he softened his voice and repeated:

    “I won’t leave you.”

Lu Qingrang hugged the warm body in his arms tightly, as if he wanted to rub the person into his own bones and blood.

He listened to the almost harmonious heartbeats of the two of them.

A despicable thought quietly emerged. He clearly felt Xu Wen’s excessive indulgence and distress. He also realized that in this world, Xu Wen had no one to rely on like him, and they could only rely on each other.

Now that we have come this far, why not try to make this dependence deeper?

There was no need to rush, he wanted to test Xu Wen’s bottom line little by little, just like testing the water temperature.

He wants to quietly encroach into Xu Wen’s life until the other person gets used to it and can no longer live without his presence.

Once this thought arises, it is difficult to suppress it.

Lu Qingrang buried his face deeper, greedily breathing Xu Wen’s breath, carefully weaving a gentle trap in his heart.

He should tell Xu Wen what he has been doing recently.

Those codes spread through the anonymous account “A”, those secretly spying on Nangongchen’s business map, and every move he made carefully, must be made known to Xu Wen.

They are bound together and share every secret.

He wanted Xu Wen to understand that their fates were already inseparable.

As long as Xu Wen stays by his side, as long as those eyes always look at him.

Lu Qingrang tightened his arms and showed an almost paranoid smile in the shadow where no one could see him.

    So be it.

Keep him locked close to you.

Use his heartache, his tenderness, his dependence, and this seemingly solid bond.

He was never an aboveboard person anyway.
