Chapter 20: I Choose Pei Huaixue

    Chapter 20

“Emperor Gu, are you alright?” Xiao Shu was startled by Gu Minghe’s expression.

That feeling—like his wife had been stolen and he wanted to destroy the whole world—was too terrifying!

Gu Minghe regained his composure, and the gloomy look in his eyes became calm again, as if the man radiating coldness just moments ago hadn’t been him. He put on his usual professional smile and spoke normally: “I’m fine.”

    Is he really fine?

    Xiao Shu was suspicious.

She felt like she had just witnessed a very scary side of Emperor Gu!

But then again, his beloved likes his Elder Brother, but his Elder Brother ignores his beloved because he likes someone else, and the person he secretly adores insists on chasing someone else like a dog—anyone would be upset, right?

This four-way relationship is truly dramatic!

After everyone’s individual interviews were recorded, everyone gathered in the living room that evening for a small game to determine the bedroom assignments for the night.

The Director said: “Because of Gu Minghe’s addition, the bedrooms need to be reassigned. Also, to keep things fresh between everyone, we will reassign bedrooms every week from now on.”

“This week happens to be the last day of the first week, so tonight’s game will decide who you share a room with next week.”

“Currently, there are four rooms: one single room, one triple room, and two double rooms. The game we are going to play is Musical Chairs.”

Seven chairs were placed in a circle in the living room.

When the music started, everyone walked around the chairs. When the music stopped, they quickly sat down, and whoever failed to grab a chair was eliminated.

In the second round, one chair would be removed based on the number of people eliminated.

This continued until the final round.

“Based on the order of elimination, the person who wins until the end gets to choose their room type and roommate first. The last person remaining will move into whichever room still has an empty spot. Those are the rules. Does everyone understand?”

    “Understood.”

Everyone nodded, and the game began.

As soon as the music started, everyone began circling.

Pei Huaixue deliberately walked at the end of the line, just to stay far away from Gu Minghe.

Because he was slightly distracted, he almost didn’t react when the music stopped. The scene instantly devolved into chaos as everyone rushed to grab a chair, but he was still standing there blankly.

Suddenly, a hand appeared from nowhere and yanked him hard.

Pei Huaixue was pulled over and plopped down onto a chair. By the time he recovered, he was firmly seated.

Gu Minghe was sitting right beside him, his large palm tightly intertwined with Pei Huaixue’s fingers.

Pei Huaixue felt like he had been electrocuted and hastily pulled his hand away.

    His face was flushed.

The first person eliminated was Shen Zhimian, the homebody whose physical strength was lacking.

    The second round continued.

This time, they were fighting for five chairs, and two people would be eliminated.

Pei Huaixue was also someone who didn’t exercise much; he was physically weak and couldn’t compete with the others. As soon as the music stopped, he lunged toward the chair he had targeted, but Xia Mu suddenly bumped into him from the side, pushing him away with immense force.

Pei Huaixue felt like he was about to be knocked flying and nearly landed on the floor. Just then, someone pulled him again.

This time, he didn’t land on the ground, but on someone’s hard thigh.

The moment his soft backside touched the thigh, he sensitively wanted to spring away, but the arm around his waist, hard as iron, hugged him tightly. Their lower bodies were pressed closely together, and Pei Huaixue’s back was against the hard chest behind him. He could almost feel the vigorous heartbeat of the other person.

Warm, familiar breath sprayed onto his vulnerable nape, causing Pei Huaixue’s body to tremble violently.

His face was crimson, and he tried to get up and leave, but he was fiercely pressed back down.

    “Mm, don’t…”

Pei Huaixue pleaded softly. His eyes were misty, and his waist felt utterly weak.

At the same time, the man behind him let out a muffled groan.

“Be a good boy, don’t move, okay?”

Gu Minghe bit Pei Huaixue’s ear and whispered.

Pei Huaixue felt the change in him and completely froze. He sat there motionless, like a docile, beautiful doll ready to be manipulated, though his cheeks were already bright red.

When this round ended, Su Jin failed to grab a chair.

Pei Huaixue hadn’t grabbed a chair either, but for some reason, he ended up sitting on Gu Minghe’s lap.

Everyone stared at the scene, dumbfounded.

“Pei Huaixue, how—how can you sit on Emperor Gu’s lap??” Xia Mu was furious just watching it.

So you could play the game like that?

If he had known, he would have deliberately missed a chair and gone straight for Gu Minghe’s lap!

Zhou Jingyuan’s expression also changed slightly.

How could Pei Huaixue be so promiscuous? He was already with him, so why was he still trying to hook up with Gu Minghe?

Gu Yanchen, however, curved his lips into a smile, looking completely accustomed to the sight.

The live comments were also stunned.

-What’s going on? I wasn’t paying attention. Why did Pei Huaixue run into Gu Minghe’s arms again?

-So Pei Huaixue acting like he disliked Gu Minghe during the date was just playing hard to get? Why else would he throw himself into his arms so actively now!

-Wait, does Pei Huaixue like the Elder Brother or the Younger Brother? He was chasing Gu Yanchen before, and now his target has changed to Gu Minghe?

-Gu Minghe is great! As long as he stops ruining the Gu-Su couple, I’ll forgive him.

-I have to say, this scene is pretty shippable!

-Don’t you think the way Gu Minghe is holding Pei Huaixue is too practiced? And he seems to be hugging him really tightly!

-Holy crap, they are pressed so close, they must be rubbing sparks down there!

-My face is turning yellow just watching (shy)

-I’ll quietly say this: I think I saw Gu Minghe pull Pei Huaixue into his arms… I might be wrong, damn it, I wish there was a replay!

The live comments were scrolling non-stop, and after sensing everyone’s gaze, Pei Huaixue lowered his head in embarrassment and patted the back of Gu Minghe’s hand.

Only then did Gu Minghe reluctantly let him go.

Freed from the restraint, Pei Huaixue sprang up like a small coiled spring and hid behind Su Jin on the opposite side.

The Director finally reacted and said: “The other person eliminated is Pei Huaixue.”

Two more rounds followed, eliminating Xia Mu, Zhou Jingyuan, and Jiang Leran. In the final showdown, only one chair remained.

Gu Minghe looked at Gu Yanchen, his eyes determined to win.

-The biological brothers are about to fight!

-I wonder if the Elder Brother or the Younger Brother will win?

    -Go Gu Minghe!!

Gu Minghe’s fans in the live stream started cheering for him.

Finally, under Gu Minghe’s unstoppable charge, he won first place in the Musical Chairs game!

-Gu Minghe is so competitive. I feel like he wasn’t fighting for a chair, but for a person…

-His eyes looked like he wanted to tear Gu Yanchen apart. He was so ruthless, completely disregarding brotherly affection!

-The Elder Brother lost to the Younger Brother, but looking at Gu Yanchen’s expression, he seems to be smiling.

Gu Yanchen pursed his lips and patted Gu Minghe’s shoulder meaningfully, “Good job, dear brother.”

Gu Minghe’s face darkened, looking incredibly foul.

“C-Congratulations, Emperor Gu?” The Director was also stunned by the fierce struggle. Seriously, it’s just musical chairs, there’s no need to be this serious, right?

“Now Emperor Gu can choose his room type and roommate first. Which room would you like to choose?”

The Director took out a whiteboard with photos of the four room types for Gu Minghe to choose from.

Gu Minghe chose the double room with a sea view.

That room had an excellent view, a large floor-to-ceiling window, and was spacious and bright—it was arguably the best room among them.

It had previously been occupied by Xia Mu and Shen Zhimian.

Seeing his room chosen, Xia Mu’s heart skipped a beat, and he couldn’t help but start fantasizing about Gu Minghe choosing him as a roommate.

“Then, Emperor Gu, who do you want to choose as your roommate?” the Director asked.

Gu Minghe’s gaze swept over the people present.

When Xia Mu met his eyes, his heart was pounding in his throat with nervousness.

    Choose me, choose me.

Then, Gu Minghe’s steady, magnetic voice, carrying a faint smile, rang out. His eyes passed through the crowd and landed on Pei Huaixue, who was hiding behind Su Jin, shrunk into a little quail.

“I choose Pei Huaixue as my roommate.”

    W-What?

    At the choice, everyone froze.

The live comments were also stunned and started frantically flooding the screen.

-Is Gu Minghe sacrificing himself for the greater good? Deciding to sacrifice himself so Pei Huaixue won’t ruin the relationship between his brother and sister-in-law anymore?

-Well done! Now Pei Huaixue finally won’t be crammed into the same room as Gu and Su! That super third wheel is finally gone!

-Truly worthy of being a biological brother. Gu Yanchen must feel like he didn’t spoil him for nothing.

-Pei Huaixue is doomed. I wonder how cruelly Gu Minghe will treat him. Pei Huaixue’s small frame probably can’t handle it (smirk)

After the initial shock, netizens in the live stream quickly found a reason for Gu Minghe’s choice, and everything became logical!

However, Pei Huaixue quietly asked, “Can I refuse?”

Gu Minghe’s eyes narrowed, his expression instantly tensing, and his hands instinctively clenched into fists. His expression only slightly softened after hearing the Director’s refusal.

“I’m sorry, you can’t. Because you were eliminated early in the game, you must abide by the winner’s arrangements.”

    “Alright…”

    Pei Huaixue reluctantly agreed.

He had spent the whole day with Gu Minghe, and since nothing unexpected had happened, there shouldn’t be any problems in the short term, right?

He would try hard to switch rooms next time they reassigned them.

    Pei Huaixue thought.

That night, in the sea-view double room on the second floor.

Pei Huaixue sat cross-legged on his bed, nervously picking at his fingers.

The sound of running water came from the bathroom; Gu Minghe was taking a shower.

Listening to the sound, Pei Huaixue felt his mind wander. It had been a month since he had done anything with Gu Minghe. When he wasn’t seeing the man, he didn’t miss it as much, but after spending the day with Gu Minghe and being hugged twice, that familiar heat in his body returned.

He lifted the blanket, buried himself inside, and continuously recited the Heart-Cleansing Mantra.

Calm down, calm down, Pei Huaixue. You are divorced from your Husband. You have no right to do that kind of thing with him anymore.

Pei Huaixue whined, feeling incredibly wronged.

He wished Gu Minghe would stop showering and come out and hug him immediately.

As if sensing his call, the sound of the shower stopped.

Then, Gu Minghe’s magnetic, reverberating voice came from the bathroom: “Pei Huaixue, can you help me grab the underwear I left on the bedside table?”
