Chapter 45: Peril on “Ice Soul Mountain”
In the following days, they cooked together, went shopping, and watched movies, their days passing by peacefully and fulfilling.
One day, they decided to go hiking.
The two arrived at the foot of “Ice Soul Mountain.”
Looking up, the snow-capped mountain towered into the clouds, the entire mountain covered in a blanket of white snow.
“Yu, we must climb to the top.”
“Okay, let’s go.”
They climbed upwards along the winding mountain path, the snow crunching “creak, creak” beneath their feet.
The cold wind was biting, like knives scraping across their cheeks, bringing bursts of stinging pain.
But their companionship made this difficult journey full of warmth.
“Yu, be careful, it’s a bit slippery here.” Ye Xingchen held Lin Yu’s hand tightly, his eyes filled with concern.
Lin Yu nodded, cautiously testing the ground with his feet.
The mountain path was rugged and uneven, with patches of thin ice in some places, requiring extra caution with every step.
Ye Xingchen walked ahead, scouting the path for Lin Yu, using his trekking pole to tap the ground, ensuring there were no hidden dangers.
Lin Yu followed closely behind, holding tightly to Ye Xingchen’s hand.
“Xingchen, let’s rest for a while, I’m a bit tired,” Lin Yu said, panting.
Ye Xingchen stopped and turned to look at Lin Yu, noticing his face was red from the cold, his forehead covered in sweat.
“Okay, let’s rest for a bit.”
Ye Xingchen helped Lin Yu sit down beside a large rock, taking a thermos from his backpack and handing it to him.
Lin Yu took the thermos and drank in large gulps.
After resting for a moment, they continued on.
The higher they went, the thinner the air became, and breathing became increasingly difficult.
Seeing Lin Yu panting, Ye Xingchen immediately took out an oxygen canister and handed it to him.
“Yu, take some oxygen.”
“Thanks!” Lin Yu took it and inhaled a few times, feeling less uncomfortable.
They encouraged each other, step by step, moving towards the summit.
Suddenly, Lin Yu’s foot slipped, and his body instantly lost its balance, falling down the mountain.
“Yu!” Ye Xingchen shouted, without a second thought, recklessly jumped down after him.
In the rapid descent, Ye Xingchen desperately reached out to grab Lin Yu, finally managing to grip his hand tightly.
The two of them fell through the air, the sound of the wind whistling past.
“You shouldn’t have jumped!” Lin Yu shouted, although touched, he remained rational.
“Don’t be afraid, I’m here!” Ye Xingchen responded loudly.
Luckily, they were stopped by a large tree that protruded from the mountainside, saving their lives.
After calming down, they took out their phones to call for help, but they discovered that there was no signal.
Lin Yu calmly took off a piece of clothing and tied it to a tree branch, creating a makeshift distress signal, waving it vigorously.
While waiting for rescue, the temperature dropped lower and lower, and it even began to snow heavily.
Their bodies grew colder and colder.
They hugged each other tightly, trying to give each other more warmth.
After a long time, Lin Yu gradually began to lose body heat, his face as pale as paper, his eyelashes covered in ice, and his lips frozen purple.
Ye Xingchen held Lin Yu tightly, his voice trembling as he said, “Yu, hang in there, someone will come to save us.”
Lin Yu’s consciousness gradually blurred, and he felt that he wouldn’t be able to wait for someone to come and save them.
He couldn’t help but reach out to stroke Ye Xingchen’s cheek, struggling to say, “Xingchen, I… I don’t think I can wait for someone to save us.”
Ye Xingchen was now sobbing uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face, choking out, “Yu, don’t say that, you’ll be fine, you will!”
“Xingchen, I love you, if I had known that we would have an accident, I definitely wouldn’t have avoided it, I would have bravely faced our feelings…”
Lin Yu’s eyes slowly closed, and his body grew colder, Ye Xingchen’s heart was pierced with pain, but he still held him tightly.
He kept muttering, “Yu, wake up…”
“Don’t sleep, please don’t sleep.”
Just as Lin Yu was about to lose consciousness completely, Ye Xingchen frantically tried to think of a way out.
He looked down, it didn’t seem too high, and waiting like this was not a solution. He remembered there was a simple shelter not far ahead.
Ye Xingchen made up his mind, holding Lin Yu tightly to his chest, positioning himself at the bottom, and jumped down.
At the moment of landing, Ye Xingchen felt a sharp pain in his back, sharp stones tore through his clothes, deeply piercing his skin, and blood gurgled out instantly.
But he couldn’t care less about his injuries, his mind and eyes were filled with the unconscious Lin Yu in his arms.
He endured the pain, struggling to stand up, carrying Lin Yu and staggering towards the shelter.
Every step felt like a million needles were pricking his back, but his pace showed no hesitation or pause.
With great difficulty, he reached the shelter, opened the door with trembling hands, and gently placed Lin Yu on the bed.
Then he took out a spare lamp and turned it on, quickly opened his backpack and took out a sleeping bag to wrap Lin Yu in.
In order to give Lin Yu more warmth, Ye Xingchen took off all his clothes and draped them over the sleeping bag, then got into the sleeping bag himself, holding Lin Yu tightly.
After a long time, Lin Yu finally responded, slowly opening his eyes.
He looked at Ye Xingchen and said weakly, “Xingchen, you saved me.”
Ye Xingchen forced a smile, his face pale and weak.
At this moment, Lin Yu felt something wet on his hand, he picked it up and looked at it, exclaiming, “Blood, it’s your blood, you’re injured!”
Ye Xingchen shook his head, “It’s nothing, as long as I can save you, this little injury is nothing.”
At this time, the snow outside was falling even harder, Ye Xingchen comforted, “Yu, we will definitely wait for someone to come and save us.”
Lin Yu’s condition had improved a bit, and he quickly got up and found emergency medicine and water from his backpack.
“Let me help you with the medicine.”
He carefully treated Ye Xingchen’s wounds, and after applying the medicine, he fed him water. They each ate two compressed biscuits and chocolate to replenish their strength, and then huddled back in the sleeping bag to wait for the snow to stop.
In the cold shelter, the two clung to each other, their body temperature and heartbeats becoming the only comfort.
The snow was still falling, in the shelter, Lin Yu and Ye Xingchen snuggled tightly in the sleeping bag.
To prevent hypothermia, Lin Yu took the initiative to get closer to Ye Xingchen, the two bodies pressed even closer together, trying to get more warmth.
His consciousness also gradually became clear, and his heart was filled with gratitude and pity for Ye Xingchen.
“Xingchen, when we get back, I won’t run away anymore.”
Ye Xingchen forced a smile on his pale face.
“Okay, then let’s pinky promise.”
The two intertwined their little fingers, looked at each other and smiled, as if making a lifelong promise.
After an unknown amount of time, faint shouts came from outside.
“It sounds like someone’s here!” Lin Yu said excitedly.
Lin Yu struggled to stand up, opened the door of the shelter, and loudly responded to the shouts.
Soon, the rescuers found them.
At the moment of being lifted onto the stretcher, Lin Yu and Ye Xingchen held each other’s hands tightly, unwilling to let go.
