Chapter 2 I! Bandit? He Can Only Move Forward

Lin Yu first heard a sound like a small animal whining, and then another language he could understand was simultaneously played in his mind.

He looked at the white fluff ball in front of him with some wariness.

Yet, he couldn’t detect any offensive weapons from its soft and adorable appearance. Moreover, unlike the giants outside, its height was roughly the same as Lin Yu’s.

Lin Yu remained silent, watching the white fluff ball approach him curiously and familiarly, rubbing against him.

“You don’t have a tail, why?”

“And you look so much like them.”

    “Just as bare, no fur.”

“Wait, An Qiao has fur on his butt too.”

    “Who are you?”

After these few sentences, Lin Yu was almost certain that the creature was the source of the voice in his head.

But why was he simultaneously hearing two completely different sounds?

Due to the mistake he made when speaking earlier, Lin Yu decided to maintain silence this time.

The white fluff ball, however, did not stop its curiosity. It seemed prepared for Lin Yu’s silence and brought over a smaller white fluff ball, which it held in its mouth. “Here, play with this.”

Lin Yu grew even more silent.

However, the room was truly cool, infinitely better than staying under the eaves outside. The owner of the house who went out must have gone to work. With such advanced technology here, the hard labor of the working class must be indispensable.

Lin Yu guessed the owner wouldn’t be back anytime soon.

So, he planned to rest here properly and think about what to do next.

He took the white fluff ball’s toy and then threw it out.

    White fluff ball: “???”

Its voice carried a hint of confusion. “I’m not a dog.”

    Lin Yu: “…”

    It was an automatic reaction.

But the white fluff ball only said that; its dash toward the toy was clearly much more joyful, like a dandelion swaying in the wind.

It felt like it would be nice to touch.

When the white fluff ball returned, carrying the small white fluff ball in its mouth, Lin Yu reached out and smoothed the long fur that had been ruffled by the wind.

The texture was incredibly fluffy and soft, like the clouds he had fantasized about countless times when he was a child.

The white fluff ball tilted its head and looked at him for a few seconds, then flipped onto its back, exposing its belly.

    Lin Yu: “!!”

He continued stroking it with reserve. The fur on the white fluff ball’s abdomen was also extremely soft, as if it would absorb his skin.

It was a truly magical experience.

The white fluff ball forcefully pushed the small toy into his hand, its head constantly looking toward the spot where Lin Yu had thrown it earlier. Its bright black eyes were full of anticipation.

    Lin Yu: “…”

This was not much different from a dog, actually.

Since he was enjoying someone else’s air conditioning, it seemed only right to play games with their Pet. Lin Yu played back and forth with the white fluff ball several times before it finally gave up.

The white fluff ball sprawled on the floor like a marshmallow. It occasionally looked up at Lin Yu, then trotted over and brought out a few small bags of snacks.

They were all green, and just by looking at them, Lin Yu guessed the creature might be a herbivore.

He didn’t refuse the creature’s kindness but chose a snack that looked relatively appetizing and tore it open.

Under the creature’s fiery gaze of anticipation, Lin Yu struggled to swallow the dry biscuit, which was full of the fresh scent of earth. He felt as if his throat was being tightly squeezed.

He fought to swallow it down with saliva, then collapsed onto the ground, exhausted. He gasped for air.

The white fluff ball looked puzzled and extended its tongue to lick him.

A large pile of soft, light fur enveloped him. “Sleepy.”

    Lin Yu: “…”

Was this the life of a Pet? This was… too comfortable.

At this moment, he was genuinely envious.

He turned his head back and found that the white fluff ball, which had just been awake, had already closed its eyes. It looked like a quiet, plush toy, its breathing shallow and still.

    It had fallen asleep.

    Lin Yu: “…”

He was also very envious of this speed of falling asleep.

For the first time, Lin Yu entertained the idea of finding a ‘scoop-shoveler’ for himself.

If his body size couldn’t increase in the future, this might truly be his only path, but it would severely test his psychological endurance.

Of course, Lin Yu hoped that this world did not have entertainment industries like freak shows, which exploited people’s self-esteem for sensationalism.

Amidst the soft, white fur, drowsiness gradually crept over him. His taut nerves and previous physical exertion made his body crave relaxation. Unconsciously, he quietly drifted into a deep, sweet dream.

White stone pillars outlined mysterious, curving script. The glazed dome was clear and colorful, like a spreading rainbow, casting shimmering light on the flawless white floor.

An Qiao couldn’t stop weeping internally, feeling incredibly unlucky. He had to leave his little Pet on such a hot day to serve the expressionless Tyrant.

The King of the Soler Empire disliked noise and commotion. The vast Palace was inhabited only by him, and the Palace itself was situated in a lush forest, like a vagrant expelled from society. Although they initially had some objections, this insignificant dissent was quickly suppressed by absolute military force.

An Qiao was here this time to adjust the reimbursement ratio for Solerians’ Pet medical expenses.

Tearfully clutching the documents he had organized, he also cursed his despicable colleagues. Thinking of his own terrible luck and his adorable Pet waiting hungrily at home, a sudden surge of courage rose within him.

He raised his right hand and placed it on the doorknob.

    “Bang!”

A powerful and vast Mental Power suddenly descended upon him, spreading quickly and ruthlessly. Then, with a splat, it coldly knocked An Qiao to the ground.

The meaning behind this could not have been clearer. An Qiao could even grasp the unspoken word ‘scram.’

An Qiao’s legs trembled, his hands shaking as he picked up the scattered papers, and he quickly ran away without stopping.

It wasn’t until he was completely away from the quiet Palace that he slowly straightened up, proudly puffing out his chest.

He typed “Danger” on his Opticomp.

As soon as this message was posted, it was like bait dropped into a fish pond, instantly stirring up all the lurkers. The messages spread like ripples, instantly drowning out An Qiao’s words until not a trace could be seen.

An Qiao was satisfied, receiving admiration and condolences from his colleagues. Then, he logged onto another platform website and changed the most prominent question mark on the homepage to a lightning bolt symbol.

After stirring up an even greater reaction, he nodded, concealing his merit and fame. He waved his sleeve and eagerly connected to his home surveillance system.

He planned to remotely admire his cute, obedient Pet before heading back.

Although he hadn’t submitted the report, it felt as if a huge stone had been lifted. An Qiao felt nothing could defeat him now. His heart was filled with longing for his little Pet waiting at home. He began to let his mind wander, wondering if his Rongrong was eating and sleeping well.

He stared excitedly at the high-definition screen, but the smile on his face vanished instantly at the speed of light. It turned into uncontrollable horror.

Who could tell him why his little darling suddenly grew legs?!

An Qiao’s eyes widened. As he rushed home in a panic, he pressed his eyes against the screen. He saw that in the Pet’s usual resting spot, concealed by the long white fur, a pair of fair, slender legs were clearly visible.

An Qiao’s first thought was Genetic Disorder.

Since the meteor collision a hundred years ago, evolution began on Soler Star. In a short time, some species underwent massive changes in size, gaining extremely high intelligence while retaining some primitive features, such as tails, ears, and scales. They built the vast mechanical empire. Meanwhile, a small fraction gained some particularly mysterious abilities, unknown to the public. An even smaller fraction of creatures retained their original appearance, developing in a gentle and harmless direction.

Both were different evolutionary paths, yet both were favored lucky ones.

But at the same time, many diseases arose because of this.

Genetic Disorder was one of them, specifically manifesting as short-term changes in body shape, signaling the collapse of the gene chain.

An Qiao’s heart pounded wildly all the way. He contacted a private doctor with trembling hands, and both parties began rushing toward An Qiao’s residence.

If Genetic Disorder occurred, the earlier the treatment, the greater the chance of survival.

Lin Yu was completely unaware. He dreamed of many things. Those things captured him like a heavy net; the nightmares of years were relentless.

The moment he opened his eyes, Lin Yu felt quite exhausted.

He slowly exhaled and turned to look at the white fluff ball beside him, rubbing his forehead.

    “Quick, quick, quick!”

    “Wuwuwu Rongrong… I’m coming…”

Suddenly, several hurried and chaotic footsteps sounded at the door, accompanied by the house owner’s tearful, collapsing voice.

    What happened?

He suddenly realized something and looked around. He didn’t see any suspicious monitoring equipment, but Lin Yu quickly suppressed this sense of luck. With technology so advanced here, it was not impossible for there to be even smaller surveillance devices.

It seemed he might truly be an anomaly in this world.

Lin Yu strongly suspected that the owner saw him in this state and rushed back, bringing others, thinking he was going to harm the white fluff ball.

    “Awoo.”

    “So noisy.”

The white fluff ball beside him also blinked its eyes, saying sleepily.

It also heard the familiar voice and exclaimed in surprise, “Ah, back so soon?!”

The white fluff ball was very happy. It rubbed against Lin Yu with its bright black eyes. “An Qiao is very capable. You should stay and play with me.”

    Lin Yu: “…”

So this was what it felt like to be a playmate for a young master in ancient times—free room and board without pain. However, he really couldn’t bring himself to say: Your very capable An Qiao is probably not here to solve his living problems, but to solve him directly.

Lin Yu rubbed the creature’s fluffy fur and turned to leave without hesitation.

If he didn’t run now, he really wouldn’t be able to. The moment Lin Yu climbed onto the chair, onto the table, and over the windowsill, he heard the front door emit a loud, overwhelmed clang, followed by a burst of chaotic noise.

The white fluff ball was clearly well-cared for, and Lin Yu wasn’t worried that it would be harmed.

However, this was a good opportunity to understand how he was perceived by others. Lin Yu thought for a moment and decided not to leave completely, finding a hidden corner to hide in.

The open door and window accurately transmitted the sounds from the other side to his ears.

    “Rongrong!”

    “Awoo,” you’re so noisy.

“Quick, let the doctor check you. Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Let me see—where are your legs?!”

Lin Yu frowned slightly, unable to glean any information from this nonsensical conversation.

“An Qiao, calm down first. I brought gene stabilizers. Don’t panic.”

“No, I clearly saw a pair of feet just now.”

An Qiao nervously held up his little Pet, but no matter how he looked, the creature was just plump and fluffy. It seemed the smooth, white legs he saw in the previous footage were just his hallucination.

He had never heard of Genetic Disorder healing itself.

An Qiao’s heart was pounding violently, like it had run several kilometers.

It was his friend, Duan Mingyue, who pulled him down, sternly connecting an instrument to the white fluff ball. A moment later.

He frowned and shook his head. “It’s very healthy.”

But when he communicated with An Qiao, he clearly saw related morphological changes in the footage sent by his friend.

He said in a deep voice, “Pull up the surveillance video from that time. I want to see it.”

Hearing his friend say this, An Qiao felt slightly relieved and immediately pulled up the previous surveillance footage on his Opticomp.

Time sped forward minute by minute.

Finally, both their gazes settled on the small figure that had tumbled in.

The figure looked about the same height as An Qiao’s Pet but appeared much smaller. Black hair, black eyes, fair and smooth skin, delicate features, but without any other biological characteristics.

    Like a human doll.

    “This…”

An Qiao and Duan Mingyue exchanged glances, both seeing shock in the other’s eyes.

The figure was far too different from the Pets they were familiar with.

Lin Yu, however, quietly slipped away at this moment.

Upon hearing them mention pulling up the surveillance, Lin Yu didn’t dare stay any longer, fearing they would track him down through the monitor.

His mind was still replaying the words of the two people.

The good news was that the white fluff ball’s owner didn’t mistake him for a Bandit committing a break-in. The bad news was that he was indeed an anomaly in this world; otherwise, they wouldn’t have been so surprised, with eight out of ten sentences revolving around his legs.

The worse news was that he forgot to grab a few bags of the Green Grassland biscuits on his way out.

    He felt hungry.

But he couldn’t go back, so he could only move forward.

Lin Yu had no specific destination. He circled around a cluster of buildings, deliberately avoiding crowds. He only relaxed slightly when night fell. This meant his figure wouldn’t be as conspicuous as during the day, and he didn’t need to be as mentally tense, fearing that he might be taken away and dissected at a research facility the next moment.

The night provided excellent cover for his figure.

Lin Yu cautiously poked half his head out from a dense, tall green belt, spitting out the blade of grass in his mouth. He looked around somewhat wistfully at the clearly bustling crowds coming and going. Various food aromas constantly drifted into his nose.

The giants of this world also enjoyed delicious and juicy nightlife.

The location he chose was right on the edge of what looked like a commercial center. At night, many people were resting and eating here, creating a completely different kind of hustle and bustle than the daytime.

This caused his already empty stomach to sing a symphony, becoming even more shriveled.

Lin Yu lowered his eyes and pressed his stomach, trying to make it quiet—it was useless.

He slowly exhaled. Sleeping was the best way to solve hunger, but right now, in this place, Lin Yu didn’t think he had the nerve to fall asleep peacefully.

He was afraid that the robots he saw earlier might appear on the street again and dispose of him as trash.

He emptied his mind, trying to distract himself from his craving for food, when he suddenly heard the sounds of the crowd outside become somewhat chaotic and noisy. Something or someone worth discussing seemed to have appeared.

Lin Yu gently shifted his body, ensuring he didn’t make any noticeable, abrupt sounds, and observed the external environment through the gaps in the grass.

Unexpectedly, he saw a figure that was familiar beyond familiar on a distant billboard.

In the image, a simply dressed small figure was sleeping quietly with the white fluff ball. The pure white soft fur surrounded him. His long eyelashes were gently lowered, carrying a kind of pristine sanctity under the halo of light, looking incredibly peaceful and serene.
