Chapter Index

Lin Yu walked out of the forest, slightly discerning the direction. There were no giant Beastfolk nearby, which calmed his heart somewhat. The path connecting the forest to the bustling human society was a flat, wide expanse of grassland.

Although his figure was very small, more than half of his neck and head were still visible above the lush grass, his dark hair particularly conspicuous.

An Qiao spotted his figure immediately from the aircraft. He excitedly grabbed his friend’s hand and said, “See that?! He’s right there!”

“His head is so round, like a small, dark mushroom.”

Duan Mingyue controlled the aircraft, glancing out of the corner of his eye at the small person who had already noticed their presence. The person was quickly looking for cover.

But the timing was too unfortunate; whether he moved forward or backward, he was a considerable distance from both the forest and the human settlements.

A distance he absolutely could not cover quickly.

Duan Mingyue activated autopilot, and the aircraft began to circle. He looked at his friend, “Jump!”

    An Qiao: “??”

He was an office clerk, not a pilot.

Duan Mingyue frowned, looking at the distant, lush forest. He vaguely glimpsed an open area where sunlight shone into a patch of crimson, creating a beautiful yet eerie aesthetic. His heart skipped a beat.

He kicked his dawdling friend out!

Then he quickly assumed a parachuting posture and left the cockpit himself. The instant they left.

A massive fireball erupted behind them! Like a scorching sun.

    Boom—

Lin Yu stopped and looked up at the two pure white mushrooms drifting in the air. The appearance of the person beneath the mushroom that was shouting became gradually clearer.

It was none other than the owner of the white fluffball.

Lin Yu pondered for a moment, then walked toward the location where the parachute was gliding.

An Qiao was nearly scared senseless. Countless names flashed through his mind, but he couldn’t figure out who hated him so much they wanted to take his life.

He stammered, looking at his friend, “It couldn’t be that you had a change of heart…”

And couldn’t bring yourself to do it.

    Duan Mingyue: “…”

He wore an expression that said, “What nonsense are you spouting?” like he was looking at a mentally challenged child. Finally, he sighed and explained, “I saw something unusual in the Gert Forest. There’s a patch of ground that’s empty.”

It took a moment for An Qiao’s brain to catch up to the unspoken meaning of his words.

In the Imperial Historical Records, 23 years ago—the most recent incident—a similar event occurred. In the northwest of the Gert Forest, broken trees lay everywhere. Wherever the colossal entity went, only withered branches and leaves remained. The immense power recorded during that incident is still revered as a miracle today.

Of course, the highly praised new generation of surveillance aircraft were mostly damaged during that event.

Tens of billions of Star Coins instantly turned into fireworks exploding in the sky.

Just like the brief sea of fire behind them.

An Qiao nervously tapped his Opticomp a few times.

No wonder such a well-behaved and intelligent Pet left that forest; it must have sensed the abnormality too.

An Qiao felt a worried gaze fall upon him. He looked down, meeting the small person who had obediently stopped and was looking up at him, and tears immediately welled up in his eyes.

Wuwuwu, he truly was a cute little Pet, like a small angel.

Duan Mingyue raised an eyebrow slightly.

His gaze lingered for a moment on the other party’s calm eyes.

Indeed, he was a different kind of creature.

In fact, he was unlike almost all creatures in this world. According to some residual records, his body structure and appearance were closer to the Old Humans before the meteor strike.

However, his body seemed to have undergone some changes, tending toward the physique of the Pets of this era.

    He held significant research value.

Lin Yu, knowing what he needed to do and without the slightest hesitation, quietly watched An Qiao approach him.

The vast shadow enveloped him, giving him the realistic feeling of watching Ultraman fight monsters when he was a child. Unfortunately, he was the helpless human below.

Lin Yu suppressed his urge to run away and obediently showed a smile.

An Qiao’s eyes were practically glowing!

He said to the small person, “My dear little darling, do you want to come home with me?”

    “Rongrong is home too.”

Duan Mingyue glanced at his friend, whose voice was strained into a thin squeak, but chose not to expose him, quietly observing the small person.

Judging by the feedback from the white fluffball’s words earlier, Pets had a certain level of intelligence; the other party could understand the giants’ speech. The fact that the owner couldn’t understand the white fluffball’s body language might simply be because the owner was foolish.

So Lin Yu didn’t pretend to be weak-witted. He tilted his head, merely showing a slight look of confusion and doubt.

An Qiao was practically melting from the cuteness.

He opened the Pet bag he had prepared, snapping it open to reveal the pink cotton lining.

Lin Yu looked at the delicate light pink and felt a little speechless.

He didn’t think any part of him matched the color pink.

But when under someone else’s roof, one must bow one’s head. At least it looked comfortable.

He obediently stuffed himself into the inner pocket, then tied the straps on both sides to prevent the other party from accidentally dropping him if they got too excited.

A flicker of interest crossed Duan Mingyue’s eyes. When he saw his friend’s stunned, almost frozen expression from being overwhelmed by cuteness, his look turned to resignation.

    “Let’s go.”

An Qiao snapped out of his daze, his mind still replaying the scene of the small person obediently pulling open the bag and climbing inside.

    It was simply! Too cute!

He righteously declared to Duan Mingyue, “I’ve decided to revoke your qualification to keep a Pet.”

There wasn’t a single expression of being moved by cuteness on the other man’s face.

How could his darling live with someone so devoid of sentiment?

An Qiao quickly calculated his salary and the outstanding loan for Pet clothes. Two streams of silent tears fell from his heart.

He realized a tragic truth: he might not be able to afford two small Pets.

    Damn it.

What difference would one more rich person make in the world!

He tearfully handed the bag to his friend.

He attempted to awaken the other party’s compassion for the small Pet at close range.

At a time like this, put away that damned ice-cold face!

Lin Yu widened his eyes, meeting the confused, dark eyes above him in a blank stare.

    Was he? Being given away?!

But this was not part of his plan. Lin Yu poked his dark head out and reached out a small hand to grasp An Qiao’s pinky finger.

    Lin Yu: *Ying* “…”

    Don’t do this, hey.

An Qiao’s body stiffened. He looked at his friend, his eyes flashing with several huge words.

    HE! IS! HOLDING! ME!!!

    Did you see that?

    Duan Mingyue: “…”

    I saw it.

    An Qiao: He likes me!!!

Completely unable to refuse, An Qiao snatched the small person back and hugged him close to his chest.

He decided to take on a second job.

“Maybe I can teach those stupid guys on the Star Net how to prepare Pet-friendly snacks.”

    “I can earn money, right?”

He looked at his friend expectantly.

    Duan Mingyue: “…”

“Next time, I won’t lend you money to buy Pet clothes.”

An Qiao let out a mournful shriek, suddenly embracing his friend and rubbing Lin Yu along with him frantically against Duan Mingyue’s broad chest, “Daddy!”

    Lin Yu: “??”

This was the first time he had seen someone so adaptable.

    Duan Mingyue: “…”

His temple twitched. He reached out to peel the head off his chest, his earlobes slightly red, “An Qiao!”

An Qiao clung like sticky candy, refusing to retreat, “Are you going to abandon your child?”

Duan Mingyue sighed, “I’m a month younger than you, An Qiao.”

“I don’t possess the ability to reverse time and give birth to you.”

“If you keep rubbing, forget about this month’s subsidy.”

An Qiao immediately stood at attention.

    Lin Yu: “…”

    He was utterly amazed.

An Qiao looked at Lin Yu with loving eyes, then affectionately rubbed the small person’s cheek, feeling the soft side of the small person’s face. The joy in his eyes was almost overflowing.

    His cute, cute little Pet.

Duan Mingyue clearly didn’t want to linger. He looked back at the forest, his brow still furrowed, “An Qiao, we need to leave here quickly.”

An Qiao finally remembered where they were. A sharp set of fangs was still hanging over his head.

He quickly ran away, taking Lin Yu with him.

The three of them quickly left the area. One giant was worried, the other excited, and neither noticed the reluctance that flashed across the face of the small person held in their arms.

Lin Yu looked back from the pink bag, trying to spot his own patch of blue among the myriad of intertwined trees.

Whether before or after crossing over.

He seemed to have never strayed too far from that sea.

As his scent rapidly departed, the massive beast lying in the Gert Forest suddenly lifted its head. It flicked its scarlet tongue, its eyes fixed on the direction the small person had left. Just now, it had smelled the scent of other creatures.

Their scent had mixed with the small person’s scent.

    And then…

Jiaojiao’s scent was moving away from him at an unusual speed.

The dried blood from his tail dragged across the coarse ground. If someone were watching from the sky, they would be astonished that any creature could burst forth with such speed, like a blue lightning bolt. Tens of thousands of miles seemed like a mere inch, and in an instant, he appeared at the forest’s edge.

Yanyan’s eyes looked at the tracks sliding across the distant grass.

Besides Jiaojiao, there was another, somewhat familiar scent.

    An Qiao.

    Jiaojiao went with him?

At this moment, Yanyan didn’t know whether to be relieved that he knew the other party’s whereabouts or to be annoyed that the other party had taken his Pet away.

He remembered that the other party already had a Pet at home.

And now he was trying to abduct his Jiaojiao too.

Yanyan continuously flicked his tongue, trying to alleviate the anxiety in his heart.

His mind kept flashing back to the scenes of Jiaojiao interacting with him. He didn’t want to dwell on whether their future interactions would be just as harmonious.

Would Jiaojiao call that guy “Caretaker Sir” too?

    He didn’t like it.

After stopping, the pain in his tail became more pronounced. The blinding red, like a burning charcoal fire, calmed the surging flood of inner rage.

    Yanyan lowered his eyelids.

Lin Yu was taken home by An Qiao. Duan Mingyue wanted to take him to the Research Institute, but thanks to Lin Yu’s coquetry, feigned foolishness, and panicked helplessness, An Qiao completely rejected the suggestion.

An Qiao, fierce as a mother hen protecting her chick, aggressively shielded the small person in his arms. However, the moment he opened the door, he switched to an incredibly friendly expression and gently placed Lin Yu on the ground.

    “Be good, go play.”

Lin Yu blinked, then walked toward the interior without looking back.

The white fluffball had smelled three scents early on, one of which was the “friend” it had been thinking about for a long time.

So it had hidden early in the blind spot behind the door. When Lin Yu passed by, a white ball of fluff rushed toward Lin Yu with lightning speed.

    “Yingying.”

    Long time no see.

    Lin Yu was not startled.

The other party’s fluff was too conspicuous in the shadows.

But for the sake of appeasement, he still pretended to be startled, a hint of surprise flashing in his dark eyes.

The white fluffball kept making whistling sounds around him.

An Qiao watched the scene with loving eyes.

He said to Duan Mingyue, “Look how well they get along.”

Duan Mingyue looked at the small person completely surrounded by white fluff and was noncommittal.

It was rare for Pets to become so close after only one meeting.

There was definitely a secret about the other party.

Lin Yu had already led the white fluffball into a corner. An Qiao only managed to see the white, fluffy backside of his Pet. The next moment, the two small figures disappeared into the depths of the wall.

    Duan Mingyue scoffed.

He said to An Qiao, “You’ve been abandoned by your Pet.”

    “How pitiful.”

An Qiao retorted, “Not as pitiful as you, who doesn’t have a Pet.”

    Duan Mingyue was noncommittal.

An Qiao watched the small person completely vanish from his sight. He wrestled with his inner conflict for a moment, then finally scurried after them.

He couldn’t understand them anyway, but it was still good to go over and show some concern.

Lin Yu was practically buried in the white fluffball’s fur.

He leaned close to the other party’s ear canal and had already fully explained the confusing situation.

So when An Qiao arrived, he heard his Pet’s chirping sounds.

    “Awoo awoo!”

    “Wuwu!”
