In the last week of the winter vacation, the court summons was finally delivered to Ling Qingye. The court date written in black and white on the paper was like a tame hammer, shattering the peace that had lasted for days.

Song Li learned the news at the breakfast shop in the alley. He had just bought breakfast that day when he saw Ling Qingye standing under the locust tree, holding a piece of white paper in his hand, his face whiter than the morning frost.

“Is the court time set?” Song Li walked over and handed him the hot soy milk in his hand.

Ling Qingye took the soy milk, his fingertips trembled slightly, but his voice was still restrained: “Next Wednesday, nine o’clock in the morning.” He paused and added.

Song Li could hear the subtle tension in his tone.He knew that Ling Qingye had complicated emotions towards that man, including hatred, resentment, and even a trace of care that he didn’t want to admit.”I’ll go with you.” Song Li didn’t hesitate at all, and his tone was as firm as if he was promising something that must be completed.

Ling Qingye raised his eyes and looked at him, a wave of fluctuation flashed in his eyes, so fast that people couldn’t catch it.He opened his mouth, wanting to say “no”, but when the words came to his lips, it turned into a soft “hmm”.

Reason told him that Song Li should not be involved in this family dispute, but deep down in his heart, he was greedy for this unhesitating companionship.

In the next few days, Ling Qingye became even busier. He spent every day between the library and the law office, sorting out the final evidence and checking every detail.Song Li didn’t bother him too much. He just waited for him at the alley every morning and handed him a hot breakfast. When he came back in the evening, he would leave a lamp in front of his desk and a glass of warm milk next to him.

Xu Jiangyou also knew the news. For the first time, there was no gossip. He just gave Song Li an umbrella when he went out: “I heard it will rain on Wednesday. Please tell Ling Qingye not to get wet.” She paused and added, “Brother, you should also take care of yourself.”

On the day of the trial, it rained lightly.Song Li and Ling Qingye sat in the back seat of the taxi, silent all the way.Raindrops knocked on the car window, blurring the street view outside the window and making the atmosphere in the car a bit more solemn.

The steps of the court were cold and slippery. Ling Qingye walked very steadily, his back straight, like a pine and cypress facing the wind and rain.Song Li followed him, and he could see his clenched fists, his knuckles turning white.

When he entered the court, Ling Qingye’s father was already sitting at the plaintiff’s table. He was wearing an expensive suit, his hair was combed meticulously, and there was no trace of father-son tenderness in his eyes when he looked at Ling Qingye, only cold scrutiny and impatience.

Song Li subconsciously leaned closer to Ling Qingye and touched his arm lightly, as if conveying a silent force.Ling Qingye glanced sideways at him, the tension in his eyes eased slightly, and he nodded lightly.

After the trial began, lawyers from both sides launched a heated debate.Ling Qingye’s father insisted that the house was his pre-marital property and he had the right to dispose of it; while Ling Qingye’s lawyer took out Zhou Yan’an’s diary, the house purchase contract from that year, and evidence obtained from the archives to refute them one by one.

Song Li sat in the auditorium, his heart still hanging. He watched Ling Qingye calmly answer the judge’s questions with clear organization and rigorous logic, completely unlike a teenager who was still in school. But he also saw that when the lawyer mentioned Zhou Yanan’s name, Ling Qingye’s Adam’s apple moved slightly, and a trace of unconcealable sadness flashed in his eyes.

The trial lasted for more than two hours. When the judge banged the gavel and announced that “the defendant won the case and the property involved belongs to Ling Qingye,” Ling Qingye’s tense shoulders finally slumped. He didn’t cheer or get excited, he just sat there quietly, his eyes slightly red.

When we walked out of the court, the rain had stopped. The sun penetrates the clouds and shines on the wet ground, refracting dazzling light.

Ling Qingye’s father walked past them, stopped, and looked at Ling Qingye coldly: “Do you think that winning the lawsuit means you have won everything? Don’t even think about getting a penny from me in the future.”

Ling Qingye didn’t look at him and just said lightly: “I never counted on you.”

The man snorted coldly, turned around and left with a determined look from behind.

Song Li looked at Ling Qingye’s profile and wanted to say something, but didn’t know what to say.

“It’s okay.” Ling Qingye spoke first, his tone as calm as if he was talking about something that had nothing to do with him, but Song Li could see the relief deep in his eyes, “It’s all over.”

The two walked side by side in the sunshine, and the air was filled with the fresh breath after the rain.Song Li suddenly smiled: “I’ll treat you to hot pot at the one Xu Jiangyou talked about.”

Ling Qingye turned his head to look at him, and the sunlight fell on his face, outlining soft outlines. He was silent for a few seconds, then nodded slightly, with a faint smile on his lips, like the clear sky after the rain, clean and warm.

    “Okay.”

This winter vacation finally came to a successful end after the rainy and sunny court hearing.

The pain and haze of the past gradually dissipated under the sunshine.

And Song Li and Ling Qingye, the two teenagers who supported each other through the cold winter, finally ushered in their own warm spring in the cold spring days.
