That Nameless Summer Chapter 11
byfever
The dormitory was so quiet in the second half of the night that only the sound of breathing was left. Song Li was woken up by the burning sensation in his throat.
He turned over, his throat was as dry as smoke, his head was extremely dizzy, and his whole body was hot.Fumbling for his phone, he squinted his eyes when the screen turned on – three seventeen in the morning.
“Tsk.” He cursed in a low voice. Just as he was about to climb out of bed to find a drink of water, his movements were too large and his throat was stretched. He couldn’t help but cough. His voice was particularly clear in the silent night.
Suddenly there was a slight noise on the bed board of the upper bunk, and Ling Qingye’s voice was hoarse as if he had just woken up, and he said in a deep voice, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s okay.” Song Liqiang said, his voice hoarse.
Ling Qingye didn’t speak anymore, but a few seconds later, the emergency light in the dormitory was turned on. Under the warm yellow light, Song Li saw Ling Qingye jump down from the upper bunk and walk to his bed.The young man was wearing gray pajamas, his hair was a little messy, but he still couldn’t hide the coldness between his eyebrows.
“Do you have a fever?” Ling Qingye’s hand gently covered his forehead. The slightly cool touch made Song Li flinch, but the burning sensation was instantly dissipated.
“A bit.” Song Li looked away, not wanting him to see her embarrassment, “It’s okay, just drink some water and it’ll be fine.”
Ling Qingye didn’t listen to him, turned around and rummaged in his cabinet, and quickly took out a box of antipyretics and a bottle of mineral water.”Get up and take medicine.” He handed the medicine and water to Song Li, his tone unquestionable.
Song Li sat up slowly, took the pills, and swallowed them with water. The medicine tasted bitter, and he frowned. Just as he was about to lie down, Ling Qingye held his shoulders: “Sit down for a while, don’t choke.”
He had no choice but to sit obediently, leaning against the bedside, watching Ling Qingye walking back and forth in the dormitory. The other party took out a thick blanket from the cabinet and covered him. Then he went to the bathroom to twist a cold towel and put it on his forehead.
“Cool.” Song Li subconsciously wanted to avoid it.
“Cool down.” Ling Qingye pressed his shoulders with very light fingertips, “Be patient.”
Song Li didn’t move anymore and let the cold towel be applied to his forehead. The coolness seeped in little by little, sobering up his groggy mind.He looked at Ling Qingye’s side face. The light fell on his eyelashes, casting tiny shadows. His serious look was particularly beautiful.
“Ling Qingye,” Song Li suddenly spoke, his voice still hoarse, “Why are you so nice to me?”
Ling Qingye paused and turned to look at him with a deep look: “What do you think?”
Song Li’s heartbeat skipped a beat, and her cheeks instantly heated up, even higher than a fever. He looked away, not daring to look into his eyes: “I don’t know.”
Ling Qingye didn’t say anything, just picked up his water glass, poured some warm water and handed it to him: “Drink some more water, lie down and sleep.”
Song Li took the water glass and drank it in small sips, but his heart was in a mess.He knew that Ling Qingye’s kindness to him went beyond the scope of ordinary friends. But he didn’t dare to ask, and he didn’t dare to think, for fear that if the window paper was broken, he would not be able to maintain the current relationship.
After lying down, Ling Qingye pulled the blanket up again to cover his shoulders.”Call me if you need anything,” he said.
Song Li nodded and closed his eyes.In a daze, he felt Ling Qingye sitting beside his bed, reaching out to probe his forehead from time to time, his movements as gentle as handling a fragile treasure.
I don’t know how long it took, but when Song Li woke up again, it was already dawn. The sun shines in through the gaps in the curtains, making it warm.He touched his forehead and saw that the fever had gone away and his throat felt much better.
Ling Qingye was already awake and sitting at the desk reading.Hearing his movements, he turned around and looked over: “Are you awake? How do you feel?”
“Much better.” Song Li sat up, “Thank you, thank you for your hard work last night.”
“It’s okay.” Ling Qingye closed the book, stood up and walked to his bedside, “Don’t go to class today. I’ll ask the teacher for leave for you.”
Just as Song Li was about to refute, he was blocked by Ling Qingye’s eyes. There was a determination in the other party’s eyes that could not be rejected, so he could only curl his lips and said: “Okay, I won’t be able to understand Old Man Guo’s class anyway.”
The corners of Ling Qingye’s mouth curved, and he turned around to pack his schoolbag: “I’ll go to the classroom to help you bring back your notes. What do you want to eat? I’ll bring it to you at noon.”
“Whatever, just don’t be too sweet.” Song Li shrank back into bed, looking at Ling Qingye’s busy back, feeling warm in his heart.
After Ling Qingye left, Song Li was the only one left in the dormitory. He was scrolling through his phone boredly and saw a message from Xu Jiangyou, asking him why he didn’t come to class.Song Li replied that he had a fever and asked for leave. Within two minutes, Xu Jiangyou’s message popped up again, along with a photo – in the photo, Qin Jiangwen was sitting on his seat, holding two notebooks in his hand, one was his own, and the other was obviously Song Li’s, with neat and neat handwriting.
[Qin Jiangwen said that he helped you sort out last night’s math notes and asked you if you wanted him to bring some fruit back to the dormitory]
Song Li couldn’t help laughing when he saw the message, and replied [Thank him for me, and tell him by the way, don’t take the opportunity to put small notes in the notes to please you]
Putting down his phone, Song Li lay back on the bed, his mind filled with thoughts of how Ling Qingye took care of him last night. He thought of the other party’s slightly cold palms, of the other party’s gentle instructions, and of the other party’s focused gaze on him when he was sitting by the bed.
Those thoughts hidden deep in my heart are like sprouts sprouting from the ground, rising up little by little and can no longer be suppressed.
At noon, Ling Qingye came back with a cooler bag and a stack of notes in his hand.He put the thermal bag on the table: “Porridge and side dishes, just hot, eat them quickly.”
Song Li sat up and opened the thermal bag. Inside was warm preserved egg and lean meat porridge and a plate of cold cucumbers, both of which he loved.”How do you know I want to eat this?”
“Guess.” Ling Qingye put the notes on the bedside, “These are today’s notes. I have marked the key points. If you don’t understand anything, ask me tonight.”
Song Li looked at Ling Qingye while drinking porridge. The other party was sitting at the desk reading a book, and the sun fell on the top of his hair, coating it with a layer of gold.
Early the next morning, the snow finally stopped.
The moment he pushed open the dormitory door, Song Li was stunned by the scene outside the window – a night of snowstorm, the entire campus was covered with thick snow, the roof, treetops, and playground were all completely white. Even the familiar paths were buried tightly, leaving only a few scattered footprints of different shades.
A notice from the class teacher came over the radio, requesting that the first two classes in the morning be changed to snow clearing on campus. Each class was divided into areas of responsibility, and everyone had to form a team nearby to complete the task.
Song Li followed the class team to the playground with his hands that were not yet completely warm.
As soon as they arrived at the designated area, they saw Ling Qingye already standing in the snow with a shovel. He was wearing a dark blue jacket with the collar zipper pulled high, revealing only a section of his fair neck.
He moved neatly, and with one shovel he could shovel up a large piece of snow, and slowly piled it aside to form a hill. Compared with the classmates chatting and laughing around him, he looked particularly focused.
“Song Li, come here and lend a hand!” Liu Qiuhao called him not far away, waving a broom in his hand, “We are responsible for sweeping this snow into the flower bed over there.”
Song Li responded, and just as he was about to walk over, he heard Ling Qingye’s voice: “Liu Qiuhao, you are in a group with someone else.”
Liu Qiuhao was stunned: “Ah?”
“Song Li and I are in a group.” Ling Qingye’s tone was calm, but there was no doubt about it. He turned to look at Song Li and raised the shovel in his hand, “You use the broom to gather the loose snow, and I’ll shovel it.”
Song Li didn’t say much, nodded, picked up a broom from the tool pile and walked to Ling Qingye. The two shoveled and swept, and they cooperated very well – Song Li swept the scattered snow into small piles, followed closely by Ling Qingye, scooping up the snow with a shovel, and accurately threw it into the flower bed not far away, the movements were clean and neat, without any unnecessary delay.
The cold in the snow was very strong. Soon, Song Li’s fingers turned red from the cold, and the hand holding the broom became stiff. He secretly rubbed his hands, trying to warm his fingertips, but Ling Qingye saw it.
“Stop.” Ling Qingye put down the shovel, took out a pair of black woolen gloves from his pocket, and handed them to him, “Put them on.”
