Chapter 25: Fireworks in another world and revisiting old dreams

At the last second when consciousness disappeared, Ah Zhi was still holding Qi’s hand.

When I opened my eyes again, I was greeted by the familiar scent of cedar, which was stronger and more real than ever before in this world.

The young man in front of him was wearing a clean white sweater, with curved eyebrows. He was arranging his hair that was messed up by the sea breeze with his head lowered. There was a slightly cool temperature on his fingertips, a touch that was engraved into his bones and blood.

“Azhi,” Qi’s voice was clear and full of smile, “I won’t let you be alone this time.”

Azhi’s eyes suddenly turned red, and he stretched out his arms to hug Qi with such force that it felt like he was going to rub the person into his bones and blood. The tip of his nose touched the soft flesh between Qi’s neck, and the familiar scent came overwhelmingly, dispelling more than twenty years of longing and loneliness.

“I thought… I thought I would never see you again.” His voice was choked with sobs, buried in Qi’s shoulder, and his sweater was wet with tears.

Qi patted his back gently, his movements too gentle to be true: “I said, I will always be with you.”

There is no gap between yin and yang here, no distance limit of three meters, and no whispering into the void late at night. The sun is warm, the sea breeze is salty, and Qi’s embrace is real.

They live in a small wooden house by the sea, exactly as Qi dreamed of during his lifetime. There are large white roses planted in front of the house, and behind the house is the endless sea.Qi still likes to paint. The easel is placed by the window, and the sunlight shines on the canvas. The way he lowers his head and draws lines is exactly the same as the boy in Azhi’s memory.

Ah Zhi would accompany him in painting, grinding ink for him, handing him the brush, and occasionally kissing the side of his face secretly when he wasn’t paying attention.Qi Hui blushed and glared at him, but couldn’t help but curl his lips.

In the evening, they would walk hand in hand on the beach.Qi Hui took off his shoes and stepped on the soft sand like before, giggling at the waves.Ah Zhi followed him and looked at his running back, feeling unprecedentedly peaceful in his heart.

“Azhi, look!” Qi suddenly stopped and pointed at the sunset on the horizon, “Does it look like the “Stars Falling on the Horizon” I painted?”

Ah Zhi stepped forward, hugged him from behind, and rested his chin on his shoulder: “It’s even more beautiful than the one in the painting.”

Qi turned around, stood on tiptoes and kissed the corner of his lips. The sea breeze rolled up the corners of their clothes, and the sunset dyed their figures warm orange.

This is the situation that Ah Zhi has been dreaming of for more than 20 years in the human world, and now it has finally come true.

At night, the two of them sat on the sofa, covered with the same blanket, and read “Stars Falling on the Horizon” brought by Azhi. The pages of the book have turned yellow and are filled with messages from readers. Every word is a blessing for their love.

“Look,” Azhi pointed to one of the messages, “this little girl said that because of our story, she got out of depression and is now living a happy life.”

Qi’s fingertips lightly brushed the pages of the book, his eyes were gentle: “It’s really good.”

“And this teacher,” Ah Zhi continued to turn the pages, “she recommended the book to the students, so that more people could understand and be tolerant.”

Qi raised his head and looked at Ah Zhi, his eyes slightly red: “A Zhi, thank you. You have fulfilled so many wishes for me.”

Ah Zhi held his hand and intertwined their fingertips: “We did it together.”

The moonlight from the window shone in and fell on the hands held by the two of them, gentle and affectionate.

In this world without pain, they can finally stay together for a lifetime and never be separated again.
