Song Keling, a sophomore at Xinda University’s School of Biology, accidentally discovered a small white snake crushed by a falling rock during a field internship. The little white snake was incredibly beautiful, with crystal scales, a distinct spine, and striking crimson vertical pupils. Her classmates gathered around and confirmed: “Highly venomous!!” Nevertheless, Song Keling rescued the dying creature.

Her senior classmates teased her, calling her the modern-day Xu Xian, predicting that the white snake would eventually cultivate into human form and come back to repay her kindness. She laughed and told them to bring it on, saying she certainly wouldn’t faint from fright.

After the white snake recovered, Song Keling took it back to the wilderness to release it. However, when she woke up, she found it resting right beside her pillow. Song Keling shot up in bed, nearly hyperventilating from the shock! The little snake, the culprit of her terror, tilted its head slightly, seemingly confused about her reaction.

Later, Song Keling told her roommates about the strange incidents suggesting the white snake might be sentient. Her roommate joked, “Yes, yes, it’s about to transform into a human and propose marriage to you to repay the debt.” Song Keling, unconvinced, wrote a note asking the white snake if it was a demon. Since the little snake couldn’t read, it swayed seductively across the A4 paper for a while, then wrapped its slender tail around Song Keling’s fingertip, flicking its tongue in a display of cute affection.

Song Keling thought for a moment and tentatively asked, “Can you understand human speech? Will you give me a kiss?” The snake understood. It zipped toward her with startling speed! In the nick of time, Song Keling grabbed its tail, exclaiming nervously, “Wait! It’s highly venomous!” The little snake looked back, utterly confused.
