Chapter 77: If I don’t beat you to death today, I’ll take your surname! Congratulations…

The door was pushed open with a bang, and the young man in a black, fitted trench coat stood against the light. His silver-white hair swayed in the breeze, almost transparent in the light.

    *Thud*.

All the vines instantly emitted black smoke and fell to the ground with crackling sounds. Accompanied by a painful groan, a semi-humanoid figure fell from the roof and crashed to the ground.

The newcomer looked at the withered vines shattered at his feet and raised a leg. A crisp sound came from his slightly heeled, knee-high boots as they landed on the floor.

There was another rustling sound, this time as countless grey-black grains of sand fell from the walls.

“Come here.” This time, he didn’t move forward, but simply crooked a finger with his black leather-gloved hand.

“Coming, Boss.” The Great Angel fluttered his wings and happily ran over.

    “Sacranus.”

The Great Angel trembled instantly upon hearing his full name and turned to run.

However, he was still a step too slow.

As a flash of silver light passed, a crisp tapping sound rang out. The Great Angel covered his head, stunned for a few seconds, then pouted, drooping his wings and running away.

“It hurts.” He tearfully hid behind Xuan Bai, his six snow-white wings drooping on the ground, looking extremely pitiful.

“You’ve got some nerve, daring to slip through a space-time rift.” The silver-haired, golden-eyed youth raised an eyebrow slightly, lightly tapping the silver “weapon” in his hand.

“We’re done for, our plans have been exposed.” The Great Angel hid behind the snake, poking its back in a very low voice.

“…” Who are you ‘we’ with?

Xuan Bai swore he had never instigated the Great Angel to sneak through a space-time rift.

But the Great Angel’s arrow had saved him a lot of trouble, and it had indeed taken on the pressure of causal backlash for him.

“It was me…” The snake decided to take the blame.

    “Shut up.”

“…” Xuan Bai shut his mouth, pitifully lying on Ji Mo An’s shoulder. He didn’t need to take the blame, because the snake was likely to be implicated.

“Who is he?” Ji Mo An asked softly, feeling a sudden surge of familiarity the moment he saw the other man.

The feeling was very strange, even more so than the first time he met Xuan Bai.

“Our boss. He sheltered me when I sent you back here.” The snake’s eyes darted around.

“Sheltered?” Ji Mo An was taken aback. The words didn’t sound good no matter how he thought about them.

“Ugh…” Xuan Bai stared intently at the basin. He hadn’t seen this prop before. “That would have been a serious violation. I wouldn’t have been able to leave the Star System through normal procedures.”

“I am, Yun Chuan.” The man walked in, his long silver hair scattering behind him, swaying slightly, interspersed with a few strands of gold.

“This name…” Ji Mo An looked at those light golden eyes, stunned, and subconsciously turned his head to meet Jing Junze’s gaze.

Jing Junze nodded slightly. It was the strangely dressed black-haired youth from before the family banquet.

Even though he was still wrapped up tightly, what was hidden beneath might be his true appearance.

“We meet again. You are still healthy.” Yun Chuan said something odd, then handed the silver bowl in his hand to Ji Mo An.

    “A meeting gift,” he said.

“…Thank you.” Ji Mo An gripped the bowl tightly. As he received it, the other man seemed to look him up and down.

No… Not at him… More like he was looking through his body at his soul.

The moment he met those golden eyes, he felt like he had been plunged into icy water, his soul freezing inch by inch.

But fortunately, the other man only glanced at him, and the feeling was fleeting.

Just as Ji Mo An was stunned, several lines of silver text floated up from the bowl.

[Custom Prop – Basin Bowl [S-Rank]

Prop Description: [One hit, one sound; dazed but no brain damage] Only effective against S-Rank bosses. Must strike the designated area of the S-Rank’s head, inflicting a (1-5 second) stun effect depending on the force.

Note: A labor of love from the Department Head of Prop Design. Voted one of the top ten most useless props in Star System. After all, no player can hit an S-Rank boss’s head.]

“…” What a ‘Basin Bowl’. How was it so much like the iron basins used to bonk dogs on the head in those videos?

Ji Mo An looked at the basin, then at Yun Chuan, and finally turned his gaze to Xuan Bai’s head.

The snake widened its eyes, no longer daring to cling to Ji Mo An. It ran off to stand with the Great Angel, afraid of being used as a test snake.

This wasn’t a meeting gift; it was a Snake-Beating Stick Plus Version Snake-Beating Basin!

“May I ask, what is the situation like outside now?” Ji Mo An suddenly asked.

He was a little anxious; after all, they had been trapped for so long, and the most important thing was the banquet hall outside.

“It’s over. There were no abnormalities.” Yun Chuan opened his five fingers, and a large clump of pure golden flames spilled from his fingertips.

“This is a good place. How about building a teleportation gate here?”

“Haha.” Xuan Bai snuggled back to Ji Mo An’s side, unable to stop himself from shaking with laughter.

“He’s going to be furious then. Oh, right, Little Bird killed Losde’s star identity.”

“I did it, hurry and praise me.” The Great Angel puffed out his chest proudly.

“I felt it.” Yun Chuan looked the Great Angel up and down. “How didn’t you shatter into pieces?”

“Because he came through the space-time rift. He’s bug abusing. He might shatter when he goes out.” The snake replied immediately.

“Don’t say unlucky things. Boss, quickly save my fur.” The Great Angel suddenly remembered the thirteen he had forgotten at his feet.

“…” Yun Chuan stared at his expectant, glowing eyes for a full minute before finally taking off his gloves, revealing a hand covered in golden patterns.

He placed his hand on Thirteen’s forehead, and the golden flames flickering at his fingertips slowly drilled into the young man’s brow.

“Their repairs should still take some time.” Xuan Bai poked his head over to watch for a while and decided to start his own business here first.

“Su Nai.” He pointed at the prostrate, inhuman mass of green vines in the corner and picked up the twins, handing them to Fourteen.

“Let Sasha be taken care by them. You guys come with me.” The snake surreptitiously reached out and touched Ji Mo An’s hand, trying to pull the Basin Bowl away with its fingertips.

They walked to a corner of the wall, and Xuan Bai used his hand to draw an ∞ symbol on the wall.

As he did so, a black snake gradually appeared on the wall, where the paint had already peeled off. The snake was biting its tail and swam quickly, growing until it filled half the wall.

*Hiss*… The black snake made a sound, and the part where its body circled began to turn white, brightening until it formed a pure white vortex.

“Grandfather shouldn’t go in,” the snake said to Ji Mo An with a cheeky grin.

“What are you going to do?” Ji Mo An asked, watching his grandson and the snake holding hands tightly, feeling like nothing good would come of it.

Xuan Bai raised his hand and pointed to his left chest.

His heart. Ji Mo An instantly understood what he meant.

Was he… going to replace his heart?

Ji Mo An felt like he couldn’t take it, but how could he feel at ease waiting outside while they were replacing his grandson’s heart?

“What are you being so mysterious about?” Ji Mo An knew nothing. The snake’s actions and his grandfather’s reactions only made him more confused.

“Nothing, nothing.” The snake savored the emotions emanating from the old man, unable to resist being a jerk again.

“Generally speaking, humans can’t go in. But if Grandfather begs…”

“Xuan Bai.” Ji Mo An tapped the snake’s shoulder with the basin.

“But Grandfather is Grandfather. Please, Grandfather, come in.” The snake immediately took a step back, elegantly clasping his fingers together in a gesture of invitation.

“Snake Bro, you kneel way too fast.” Fourteen was dumbfounded.

“Go in.” Xuan Bai went behind Fourteen and kicked him into the vortex.

The feeling of walking into the vortex was strange. One moment it seemed like a gentle breeze was blowing, and the next moment it felt like being soaked in ice water.

But these feelings lasted less than a second, and even memories couldn’t capture them.

Ji Mo An looked around. At some point, this space had been reduced to only him.

“Hiss…” A snake-like voice came from the void, and two doors slowly unfolded before him.

One pure white, one pure black.

He had to enter one of these two doors.

Even though the snake had conjured them up, Ji Mo An still dared not act rashly.

He carefully touched the pure white door with the end of his stick. In the blink of an eye, a pure white snake poked its head out of the door and hissed fiercely at him.

“Hiss… Hiss…” The small snake on the end of the stick was not to be outdone, opening its mouth to hiss back, but it was quickly frightened into retreating by the huge snake head.

    [Life]

Two big words appeared on the white snake’s head before it slowly retreated back into the door.

    Life?

The Ouroboros, who controls time and cycles, also represents the alternation of life and death. Ji Mo An suddenly remembered this sentence.

White was life, so black was death.

He poked the black door again with the stick. A pure black giant snake immediately swam out of the door.

The snake only rubbed against the stick affectionately before slowly retreating back into the door, then revealing a black tail tip that gently hooked Ji Mo An’s ankle and pulled him inward.

No words appeared above its head. After tugging him, it retreated back into the door.

It was time to choose. Ji Mo An looked at the two doors, unable to decide.

Logically, this should be Xuan Bai’s territory, but he still felt a inexplicable heartbeat.

He had to choose carefully, a voice echoed in his heart.

Obviously, anyone would choose the Door of Life. But the roaring giant python was too intimidating.

It was as if his head would be bitten off in the next second, and he would be reincarnated to start a new life.

And the Door of Death, apart from its unpleasant name, was gentle in every other aspect, even carrying an irresistible sense of intimacy.

Ji Mo An struggled for a while, then decided to close his eyes and respect his heart.

He walked forward, closing his eyes tightly, relying entirely on his senses until he heard the sound of the door.

“Hiss…” The pure white snake head opened its mouth and hissed fiercely again.

Too close, so close that Ji Mo An could see the venom dripping from the snake’s fangs.

*Drip*. The light yellow venom fell, smashing a pit into the ground.

Forget it, Ji Mo An steeled his heart, closed his eyes again, and rushed inside.

In the split second before the world went dark, he saw with the corner of his eye that the scene beside him had turned into white walls and a few sharp fangs.

The snake had actually opened its mouth and swallowed him whole.

Ji Mo An opened his eyes. Everything he saw now was pure white.

That unreliable Xuan Bai… He was about to criticize Xuan Bai when he felt his feet go empty, and the sensation of weightlessness quickly spread throughout his body.

    *Plop*…

He fell into a firm embrace. All he felt under his palms was slippery scales.

“Congratulations, you chose the correct answer.” Before him was a pair of familiar golden eyes. Xuan Bai hugged him and lowered his head to kiss his lips.

“What do you mean, the correct choice?” Ji Mo An was hugged and kissed in a daze, so much that his glasses were crookedly hanging on his ear.

“Shut your mouth.” He struggled to free his hand, grabbed Xuan Bai’s hair, and pulled the snake off his mouth.

“Kiss~ Kiss~” The snake wrapped its tail around Ji Mo An’s leg, rubbing against his body.

“What do you mean, the correct choice?!” Ji Mo An then realized that Xuan Bai had turned into a half-human, half-snake form, covered in glowing ornaments.

An expert here would recognize that the gems inlaid on those ornaments, any one of which could be sold for a sky-high price at auction, were of the highest quality.

But Ji Mo An didn’t have time to think about that. His mind was filled with the black door.

He entered the ferocious white door, and the snake said it was the correct choice.

What about the black door? The incorrect choice? What would happen to those who entered the black door? What if his grandfather went into the black door…

“Kiss your head.” Ji Mo An felt his heart beating so fast it was about to jump out. He grabbed the snake by the chin and shook it, pulling the snake that was starting to bite his neck away.

“The Door of Life and the Door of Death. The names explain themselves…” Xuan Bai blinked his eyes, his golden pupils as viscous as the finest honey.

“Those who are not afraid of danger and walk into the Door of Life can smoothly reach the Ouroboros’s domain and come before the Ouroboros.”

“What about the Door of Death…” Ji Mo An was even more afraid.

“I already said the names explain themselves… Those who choose the Door of Death won’t be able to reach the Ouroboros~” Xuan Bai deliberately dragged out the last few words.

    “Tell me!”

“They will fall behind the Ouroboros and need to walk a circle to get to the snake’s front.” Xuan Bai suddenly spoke at double speed, his words flying by.

“Ouch…” Before the snake could finish speaking, a black door suddenly unfolded a meter behind him, and Fourteen walked out holding the twins with a bewildered expression.

“Hehe, Snake Bro, An Bro.” Fourteen smiled happily when he saw familiar faces.

“Ouroboros.” Ji Mo An coldly called out the snake’s full name.

“I’m here~” The snake ingratiatingly rubbed against Ji Mo An with its tail tip, the golden ornaments on its body jingling.

“If I don’t beat you to death today, I’ll take your surname.” Ji Mo An forced out a smile, gnashing his teeth, and drew out his silver stick.

The stick was much easier to use than the bowl.
