Chapter 2: The Snake is Watching You… “Have you looked enough?” ……

The little snake seemed to have woken up, finally stretching its body and constantly circling and swimming in the transparent box.

The gleaming golden, round eyes paired with the small red tongue were truly beautiful.

So much so that even after Ji Mo An knocked on the table for the third time, the gazes of the people present still unconsciously followed the little snake up and down.

As if they had automatic tracking.

He shouldn’t have brought the little snake into the meeting room after breakfast, just because he was too lazy to go upstairs…

Ji Mo An raised his hand speechlessly to stop the report.

    “Have you looked enough?”

“Not enough? Want to look some more?”

    The meeting room was silent.

“It just feels a little novel. The color scheme of this snake is similar to the color scheme of the best-selling series of accessories from last quarter,” the Sales Director spoke up among a group of silent colleagues, trying to muddle through.

“Look at it after the meeting.” Ji Mo An put the box on the floor to prevent it from further disrupting morale.

The Monday morning meeting lasted twenty-five minutes, saying the same old things.

Everyone skillfully opened the files, reported, bowed, and returned to their seats.

The busiest one throughout the whole meeting turned out to be the little snake circling in the box.

“Does a snake have that much stamina?” Back in his office, Ji Mo An habitually turned on the computer, logged onto the official website, and casually tapped the box.

The little snake crawled even faster upon hearing the sound.

“Mr. Ji, maybe this box is too small, it wants to come out.” The Special Assistant knocked on the door and placed the wooden insulated box on the desk.

“This is the design model diagram for a custom-made reptile tank. The boss said it can be made in three days at the earliest. You can use this feeding box for a few days first.”

“The boss also sent two rats.”

    “?”

Ji Mo An paused in his action of opening the box. He looked at the two palm-sized, chubby hamsters and then at the little snake in his hand, which wasn’t even as thick as chopsticks.

“Buy a snake and get hamsters? If I put them in, they could crush my snake to death.”

“You’re joking.” The Special Assistant immediately hid the little rats behind his back, revealing a proper smile.

He had specially asked the boss to change them to two of the cutest white hamsters, just waiting to take them back and play with them.

Since his superior didn’t want them, he could give one to Miss Zheng in the Marketing Department.

    *thump*

The little snake slipped down from the edge of the box, where a seam had been opened, and accurately dropped onto the desk, brushing against the entrance of the feeding box.

“Mr. Ji ran away!” The Special Assistant was shocked.

“I didn’t run.” Ji Mo An quickly pulled out a folder and held it in front of him.

Don’t let the snake run away…

The little snake quickly twisted its body, but the surface of the sandalwood table was too smooth.

So the two of them watched as the snake’s twisting speed slowed down, and it finally seemed to compromise, stretching itself into a straight line and lying paralyzed on the table.

Not only did it not move forward, it even slid back a few centimeters.

Damn it, it suffered from not having feet.

“Ahem.” The Special Assistant coughed lightly to cover the laughter surging into his throat.

“Mr. Ji, I’ll do it.” At this time, he had to play the role of his Special Assistant.

He folded a piece of white paper, trying to insert it under the snake’s neck to lift it up.

The little snake flicked its bright red tongue and turned its head to the side.

    Not getting on.

    Hey, not giving him face.

The Special Assistant adjusted his position and stabbed down suddenly.

    *thwack*

“Mr. Ji, this snake has a really good personality. It’s worth buying.” The Special Assistant held up the white paper, looking at the little snake that had curled itself into a ball silently after being bumped onto the floor.

“…Don’t be ridiculous.” Ji Mo An personally took action, using two folders to support it from the left and right.

The little snake obediently was sent into the feeding box.

“Put it on the table next to the Money Tree, pull down the blackout curtains, and I’ll take it back tonight.” Ji Mo An put the folders back on the bookshelf, preparing to handle today’s business.

“Alright. The boss said that a new snake should be warmed and allowed to rest for a few days when it arrives home, and fed after three days.” The Special Assistant adjusted the thermometer on the feeding box a couple of times and added water to the small bowl.

“Mr. Ji.” The Secretary opened the door, “Mr. Ji of Gu Xing Entertainment called, inviting you to dinner at Cloud Sea Pavilion 3601 tonight.”

    “Tell him I’m not free.”

“Mr. Ji said to take him off the blacklist, or he’ll wait for you to get off work at the company gate tonight.” The Secretary said somewhat helplessly.

“Still the same one from before?” Ji Mo An raised his eyebrows. How could this kid be so devoted this time?

“Yeah.” The Special Assistant, as a frontline employee, always had the latest gossip. “He’s been trending on the hot searches lately. He should be seriously promoting someone. But he doesn’t seem to have any serious works yet, just variety shows that are popular.”

“Didn’t he just film two movies? They haven’t been released yet. It’s said that they’re going for a contrast,” the Secretary secretly joined in the gossip.

“Keep the evening free and have him change to a closer place.” Ji Mo An flipped through the list and pulled someone out of the blacklist. “Has the shortlist of candidates for the new product been drafted yet?”

“The overall list hasn’t come out yet, but Teacher Sang Ning has already been confirmed for the ‘Like Snow’ Set, and Teacher Lu Feng for the ‘Chasing Snow’ brooch. There haven’t been any major changes to this year’s international spokesperson and domestic regional spokesperson.”

“Got it.” Ji Mo An rubbed his forehead. Gu Xing Entertainment is one of the most famous entertainment companies in China. Although it hasn’t been established for many years, but… it can only be said that the elders’ business connections are strong.

If he refused again, he would probably have to go to his house and block him.

    How annoying.

    —–

    “How annoying…”

“You said what was on your mind.” Ji Cheng Yu, who was sitting opposite him peeling crab shells, paused.

“Is that so?” Ji Mo An was unapologetic and took a piece of pastry.

“But our Jewelry Prince has been very busy lately. Can’t get him out once in half a month.” Ji Cheng Yu snorted twice.

“There are no princes in socialist countries. Even if there were, a prince wouldn’t be scolded by the board of directors like a grandson.” Ji Mo An objected to this title.

“The chairman is your grandpa. It’s normal to be scolded. If the board of directors doesn’t make trouble, there’s nothing to do.” Ji Cheng Yu was very experienced with being scolded.

    “How’s the food?”

    “Not bad.”

“Then shall we talk about the new product?”

“I’m leaving, no need to see me off.”

“Come back, come back, come back. I’m serious this time.” Ji Cheng Yu rubbed his hair irritably.

“Which series have you taken a fancy to?” Ji Mo An raised an eyebrow.

    “Hehe, Ouroboros.”

    “Leaving.”

“Just kidding, just kidding. Which one do you think is suitable for him now?” Ji Cheng Yu grabbed his sleeve.

“This year’s High Jewelry Gala will be held in December. The main theme is ‘Snow’. There are six sets in this series that need to be worn, three women’s sets and three men’s sets. Ms. Sang Ning and Mr. Lu Feng will wear the ‘Like Snow’ and ‘Chasing Snow’ as the finale.”

“Tch, not to the point of stealing the limelight from the diva and the movie star.” Ji Cheng Yu waved his hand. “I can still figure out how much I weigh.”

“The ‘Reflecting Snow’ Set includes a brooch and a watch, and ‘Dancing Snow’ is a necklace and a tail ring. It’s not to the point of stealing the limelight, but it won’t be at the bottom either.” Ji Mo An had known this would happen, so he specially made a Plan B of candidates.

“Okay. I’ll study it and have my agent contact your assistant later. I’m not good at studying, but I’m definitely a marketing expert and won’t let you suffer.”

Ji Cheng Yu agreed immediately, fearing that he would go back on his word, and shook his phone, adding,

“With two movies released, one line is booked, and the celebrity status is sufficient.”

“Do a good job in public relations and be careful of backlash.” Ji Mo An picked up his coat and prepared to leave.

“Uh-huh, don’t worry, I have experience.” Ji Cheng Yu followed him lazily, “I saw Auntie go to Iceland. Is there progress on Ouroboros Progress?”

“It’s still early. Her manuscript has been stuck for almost three years. In the middle of the night, she had to wake me and Xin Xin and then drag my dad to catch a plane.” Ji Mo An’s head hurt just thinking about his mother urging him to book plane tickets at three o’clock that morning.

“Tch, inspiration. You can’t stop it when it comes. Yo, Special Assistant Bai is waiting.” The summer night wind brought a hint of coolness. Ji Cheng Yu scratched his hair and saw the familiar Volvo at a glance.

“You’ve updated this car? No, how much original stuff is left in this car now? I saw Bentley just came out with a new model that looks pretty good. Do you want to consider changing the skin?”

“Sorry, since I was hit by a Volvo, I’ve fixed its appearance.” Ji Mo An patted the black car door.

“The RS factory sent a new model, saying that they changed the material, making it a quarter lighter, but the bulletproof effect is better than before.”

“Your… mental fortitude is strong enough.” Ji Cheng Yu clicked his tongue and helped him close the car door.

It was indeed a bit lighter, but this car only had its appearance unchanged.

His buddy, who grew up with him, had a car accident while studying abroad. The front of the supercar crashed and the opposite Volvo only lost its bumper.

Then he lay in the ICU for two months and escaped death. It was a miracle that he could recover to this point.

    —–

At seven thirty in the evening, most of the working stiffs had clocked out, and the company corridor was quiet and silent.

“Mr. Ji.” The Special Assistant, who was preparing to hold the feeding box, paused.

    “What’s wrong?”

    “The snake is gone.”

    “?”

Ji Mo An put down the things in his hand and walked over.

Under the warm yellow light, the feeding box was empty.

“Is it stuck in the interlayer?” He opened the lid of the feeding box.

    Still empty.

“The snake was still there when I went out. It couldn’t have opened the lid itself… but it’s still so small.” The Special Assistant subconsciously looked at the door.

If this snake were to crawl out…

Most of the people in the secretary’s office are women. If a snake suddenly crawled out one day, it would be a disaster.

“Look for it in the room first.” Ji Mo An strode over and closed the door, using paper to measure the height of the door gap.

    An awkward height…

Normally, it shouldn’t be able to crawl out, but it might be able to squeeze through.

Fortunately, the secretaries have all left work.

    —–

    “Snakes are nocturnal creatures.”

An hour later, the two men, who had found nothing, began to analyze how to lure the snake out.

“Are the air conditioners blocked? Put the hamster cage on the ground and lay a layer of tape on the ground. Go back, bring a camera back tomorrow. I’ll send you a message before six in the morning. If you can’t find the snake, notify the secretary’s office.”

Ji Mo An put the computer back on the desk, ready to work overtime.

The office had a matching rest room, and it had long become the norm to spend a night in the company when busy.

    ——

Late at night, the moon and stars were sparse.

Silvery moonlight flowed down from the horizon, unwilling to blend into the orange lights, playfully leaping onto the backs of pedestrians, making a ruckus.

    *hiss… hiss…*

A section of jet-black snake tail suddenly flashed across the wooden floor, and the rustling sound did not wake the sleeping man.

The president’s office was not equipped with surveillance cameras, and the strange phenomenon at night was unknown.

The rapidly growing black shadow covered the traces left by the moon and flashed past the reflection in the mirror.

*ripping sound* Slender and pale fingers pinched the tape stuck on the scales, and cold golden eyes stared unblinkingly at the person leaning in the chair.

Afterward, he stood there quietly, motionless, as if he were a sculpture, devoid of life.

Time passed little by little, he was still there, until the moon outside the window tilted westward, and the fluorescent hands turned around and around.

“Squeak…” A sleepy hamster woke up in its sleep, and drowsily got up to groom the hair on its cheeks.

Suddenly, it shuddered violently, its fluffy hair instantly tightened, and a high-pitched, piercing scream broke the silence.

The shadow finally moved, the golden eyes hidden in the darkness twitched slightly, and the originally slightly enlarged pupils shrunk into a thin line.

His gaze fell, and the screams stopped abruptly.

“Hiss…” The man opened his mouth, and the sound he made was still that of a snake.

Underneath the sharp fangs, a scarlet snake tongue protruded, lightly touching the void of darkness.

Afterward, he bent down and touched the forehead of the sleeping person with the back of his hand.

Cold and sharp black scales brushed against the skin, and Ji Mo An shivered in his sleep.
