Chapter 21 The South Xinjiang Saint Son Obsessed with Gu Poison 21

A strange couple had arrived in Bishan Village recently.

Both members of the couple were men. One was robust, clearly suited for farming the fields. The other looked young, fair-skinned, and beautiful. His clothes and head ornaments changed daily, making him more captivating than the Bodhisattvas enshrined in the temple.

Many bachelors in the village, driven by curiosity, would deliberately pass by the couple’s courtyard. They often witnessed the delicate beauty wielding a feather duster, hitting and scolding the tall man who knelt on the ground without uttering a sound. He was like a dull gourd, utterly boring.

For half a year, whenever they encountered the man leaving for the fields, no matter how warmly they greeted him, he maintained a wooden expression. However, the wall of their courtyard had inexplicably grown taller.

Early this morning, before dawn, the candle inside that house was lit again.

In Bishan Village, candles were rare commodities; few families could afford them. Yet, this particular household kept them lit from morning till night.

They only learned why after overhearing the old man selling candles at the market. Apparently, the ‘little wife’ of the house needed to comb his hair every morning, and without light, it would be crooked. He also needed to read and bathe morning and evening, and couldn’t see clearly without light.

Good heavens, firewood was meant for cooking! Which family could afford the luxury of burning wood to heat water for bathing twice a day? Were they even trying to make a living?

Several men muttered amongst themselves. Seeing the man head off to the back mountain with his bow and arrows for hunting, they crept back to the tall blue wall and peered through the gap in the courtyard gate.

Inside the courtyard, two orange trees were planted, one on the left and one on the right. The young man wore a short vest that exposed his waist, and the silver ornaments on his head and body jingled. He was sitting in a rocking chair under the left orange tree, resting his head on his hand, pretending to nap.

His jade-like feet were blindingly white, and the faint pink toes still glistened with water droplets, indicating he had just bathed.

The men stared wide-eyed, swallowing hard and eagerly pushing forward.

With a loud crash, the slightly ajar courtyard gate was forced open, and the men tumbled to the ground in a pile.

The person under the tree looked over at the commotion. Their already tanned faces flushed deep red. They stood in a line. Moments ago, they had laughed at the man for being a dull gourd, but now, smelling the increasingly close fragrance, the tall, burly men couldn’t squeeze out a single word.

Host, they are spying on you!

Xie Rong surveyed the group, a slight curve to his lips.

All excellent material for refining gu.

Although Lu Yi tirelessly fed him Yang energy every night—feeding him until the energy overflowed and his stomach felt full—Xie Rong no longer lacked Yang energy for refining gu. But having cultivated gu for so many years, the more men he had for refining gu, the better.

He glanced sideways. Inside the tightly shut Bamboo Hut, several snakes were restless, trying to slither out to find him, but a single look from him forced them to silently retreat.

Though this place was poor and dilapidated, it had no shortage of snakes.

In the past six months, Xie Rong had Lu Yi catch all the snakes in the village’s back mountain. He now had many snake babies.

Xie Rong had recently learned some etiquette for receiving guests, and he was particularly enthusiastic about brewing tea. He asked the men to wait in the courtyard for a moment and went inside to boil water.

The men waiting outside looked left and right. Before they could receive the beauty’s tea, the man who had just left returned!

“What are you doing in my courtyard?” Lu Yi frowned, looking menacing. “Get out.”

When Xie Rong emerged carrying the tea, which contained insect eggs, only the returning Lu Yi remained in the courtyard.

Xie Rong picked up the teacup and splashed the hot tea onto the man.

“Are you angry?” Lu Yi stepped forward and grabbed his hand.

Xie Rong pulled his hand back and slapped him. “Go catch snakes. Don’t bother me.”

“Is my Yang energy not enough for you?” Lu Yi persisted, his large hand gripping Xie Rong’s waist, pressing him against the door. “Their Yang energy isn’t as good as mine.”

Xie Rong said impatiently, “Why did you come back again?”

Lu Yi was silent for a moment. “Just now in the market, I saw a squad of Xiao Ling Guards searching house by house. We…”

Xie Rong suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed into Lu Yi’s arms, unconscious.

    “Xie Rong?!”

When Xie Rong woke up, the sky was still dark.

He rubbed his temples, trying to force himself up, but found his limbs weak. He fell back powerlessly into the soft bedding.

Detected that the plot has completely deviated. The system has initiated forced detachment.

Forced detachment from this world countdown: 3 days, 2 hours, 35 minutes, 10 seconds.

The Host must maximize the protagonist’s suffering value before the countdown ends, or detachment will fail, and you will remain in this world forever.

Xie Rong’s expression was blank, still looking languid.

A dull thud of fists and feet colliding came from outside. Xie Rong forced himself to crawl to the window, pushing it open. It was the simplest of movements, yet it made his heart race, and he leaned weakly against the wall.

“Is this how you take care of him?!” Under the orange tree, Jin Jiuzhou, who had arrived sometime earlier, punched Lu Yi in the face. “If I had known this would happen, I would have hidden him in the Jin family! At least he wouldn’t have to live in this broken place and end up looking like this!”

    Xie Rong frowned.

What was wrong with the way he looked? Was he ugly?

He turned his head to look at the bronze mirror on the table.

The person in the mirror was not ugly, but his lips were pale and bloodless, indeed looking like someone who wouldn’t live long.

Oh, he looked like this when his cultivation was crippled in his previous life.

Thinking of it that way, he felt a little nostalgic.

Xie Rong suddenly began coughing softly.

The two men fighting outside stopped and rushed into the room.

“Xie Rong, how are you?” Jin Jiuzhou shoved Lu Yi aside, his dog-like eyes red as he looked at Xie Rong expectantly. “Do you still recognize me?”

There were countless men in Miedie Valley back then, and he was afraid Xie Rong wouldn’t remember him.

Before Xie Rong could answer, Jin Jiuzhou continued, “Xie Rong, the Empress Dowager has gone mad.”

    “Hm?”

Jin Jiuzhou recounted the events of the past six months.

The Empress Dowager desperately searched for the South Xinjiang Saint Son without success, and discontent was brewing in the court. It was then that Liu Zhanyi stepped forward, claiming to be the South Xinjiang Saint Son, capable of refining the immortality technique for the Empress Dowager.

Initially, the Empress Dowager did look younger day by day, and she even stopped pursuing Xie Rong and Lu Yi, the pair of reckless lovers who had provoked her.

But a month ago, the Empress Dowager’s face began to fester, and insect eggs even crawled out of the wounds.

When the Empress Dowager ordered men to capture Liu Zhanyi, they found that the man had already become a corpse occupied by Gu worms.

The old palace staff said this was retribution.

Ten years ago, the Empress Dowager, who had just begun ruling from behind the curtain, wanted to refine evil Gu to control people’s minds and gain the trust of her subjects. She secretly captured the South Xinjiang Saintess and forced her to refine Gu. However, the Saintess was fiercely resolute, choosing to starve herself to death rather than comply.

Ten years later, the Empress Dowager tried to capture the South Xinjiang Saint Son to refine the longevity Gu for herself. Unbeknownst to her, the Saint Son had already learned the truth of that year and deliberately came to avenge his mother. It was a cycle of karma.

Now, the Empress Dowager was suffering from Gu worm backlash and was close to death. The Emperor had reclaimed political power. Thinking of the Commander still on the run, he issued an edict pardoning Lu Yi and ordering Jin Jiuzhou to bring him back. If Lu Yi returned, he could be reinstated to his original post.
