Chapter Index

    One hour later.

Lu Yi quietly left the Bamboo Hut and went to the lake to wash up.

When he returned to the bedside, the person who had been lying neatly on the couch was now sprawled out in all directions.

A bare foot stretched out from under the gauze curtain, and the bedding had been kicked onto the floor.

Lu Yi’s expression was complicated. He walked to the wardrobe nearby and changed the bedding, covering Xie Rong with a clean set.

He sat by the couch, lowering his head to examine Xie Rong’s face.

The soft flesh on half of his cheek was pressed into a slight red mark, and his long, pale fingers were loosely curled into a fist like a baby’s.

The wicked, ill-tempered devil, when asleep, was surprisingly this adorable.

Lu Yi curled his lips, then snapped back to reality, immediately suppressing his smile.

Damn it, he actually found a little devil adorable.

It must be the effect of the Love Gu.

Initially, there were only rumors among the medicine slaves that one night, after Lu Yi was summoned to the Bamboo Hut by Xie Rong, he never returned to the Low Houses to sleep.

But Lu Yi was not a talkative person, and his lips were sealed. Furthermore, no one dared to probe Xie Rong directly.

The situation escalated when Song Qingming went to the Bamboo Hut one morning to serve the Valley Master as he rose, and the person who opened the door was Lu Yi.

The two fought fiercely in front of the Bamboo Hut, and the matter grew larger and larger.

Song Qingming was merely a scholar who wielded a writing brush before entering the valley. How could he possibly defeat Lu Yi, who was covered in robust muscle? Not only was he beaten black and blue in just a few moves, but he was also caught in the act by the awakened Xie Rong.

Xie Rong did not adhere to rules. The only rule in the valley was that whatever he said, went.

He enjoyed watching dogs fight dogs, especially this group of formerly arrogant noble families and powerful officials from Upper Cloud Capital.

However, in the eyes of the medicine slaves, this confirmed the fact that Lu Yi was the Valley Master’s male favorite.

When Lu Yi first arrived in the valley, he had hypocritically advised them to prepare for rescue. Yet, how long had it been before he himself climbed into the Valley Master’s bed?

    Bah, shameless!

Some even went so far as to provoke Jin Jiuzhou, the observing young general.

“Young General, in terms of masculine vigor, you’re not much worse than that Lu Yi. If the Valley Master wants to choose a male favorite, why did he only fancy him?”

The matter of same-sex affection, which they only dared to mention privately in Upper Cloud Capital, had become a desirable topic in the mouths of this group.

Did these idiots even remember that they were kidnapped and brought into Miedie Valley as slaves? It was truly ridiculous!

Jin Jiuzhou flipped the dining table and sneered, “Who do you take me for? Shallow trash like Lu Yi is not worthy of being compared to me!”

The few noble sons, exhausted after a day of labor, had finally managed to eat a hot meal. Now, holding their rice bowls with no dishes left, they were furious. “It was just a verbal jest! Why are you reacting so strongly? Did we hit a nerve?”

“I told you I didn’t!” Jin Jiuzhou stormed out the door.

Besides, it was clearly that devil who repeatedly flirted with him in front of Lu Yi, trying to make him a concubine.

    Not a chance!

Jin Jiuzhou marched out aggressively for a long distance, then suddenly looked up and realized he had walked right up to the Bamboo Hut.

That shallow trash happened to be walking out of the Bamboo Hut, holding a bundle of clothes.

“When the people in the capital obtain the method to cure the Gu, that will be the time Miedie Valley falls. You curry favor with this devil, yet you were still driven out,” Jin Jiuzhou lifted his chin slightly and walked forward, saying coldly, “I will truthfully report your actions in the valley to His Majesty and the Empress Dowager.”

“I have never colluded with anyone. The innocent are self-evident. Young General, please proceed,” Lu Yi said expressionlessly, walking past him with the bundle in hand.

In less than a day, everyone in the valley knew that Lu Yi had been chased out of the Bamboo Hut by the Valley Master. In just five days, Lu Yi had fallen out of favor.

The Valley Master of Miedie Valley was known for his volatile temperament and was certainly not a person of lasting affection—a fact Lu Yi deeply agreed with.

Except that he was constantly distracted.

He would stare blankly in the fields, stare blankly while chopping wood, and stare blankly while washing the devil’s clothes, even accidentally ruining the devil’s gaudy little vest.

Normally, Xie Rong would either whip him or slap him a few times as punishment.

But three or four days after he ruined the clothes, the little devil had not reacted, which was truly unbelievable.

By the seventh day after he ruined the clothes, Lu Yi gradually sensed something unusual.

Not only was Xie Rong absent from supervising them while they farmed during the day, but he also hadn’t called Lu Yi for the thrice-daily foot washing. Lu Yi even specifically staked out the Bamboo Hut but didn’t see the devil summon any other man to serve him.

Tonight, Lu Yi staked out the area for another two hours. He told himself he was merely gathering intelligence for the Skylight Guard, so he felt justified. Just as he was about to leave, he saw Song Qingming and another medicine slave stop outside the Bamboo Hut, holding a food box, and talking in hushed voices.

“The Valley Master has locked himself in the Bamboo Hut for seven days and seven nights. The lunch and dinner sent over every day haven’t been touched. Could something be wrong?” the medicine slave hesitated.

Song Qingming’s expression was stern. “Do not ask too many questions about the Valley Master’s affairs.”

    The two left together.

Lu Yi jumped down from Xie Rong’s favorite orange tree, dusted the dirt off his shoulders, walked to the Bamboo Hut, and lightly knocked on the door.

After three knocks, if it were the usual, the person would have already opened the door to lecture him, but this time there was no reaction inside.

The intuition of a Skylight Guard pierced his mind like a needle. Lu Yi didn’t hesitate and kicked the door open.

The room was empty, with only the hanging bamboo chimes swaying gently in the wind.

Xie Rong was not in the Bamboo Hut.

    Where could he be?

Miedie Valley was so large, where would he go?

Lu Yi frantically began searching for him.

He dared not dwell on why he was so anxious. He scaled walls and rooftops, pushing his lightness skill to the extreme. Every hour, he would squat on a tree to catch his breath, lick his dry lips, and continue the search.

He had virtually turned the entire Miedie Valley upside down.

Lu Yi walked to the lake and slowly stopped.

A person was leaning against a rock by the lake.

That person was only draped in a thin layer of purple gauze, and all the intricate silver ornaments on his head had been removed and placed on the rock.

His dark hair hung down, wet and clinging to his back along with the light gauze.

He bent his two snow-white, straight legs. The water covered his body, only exposing his knees and chest.

Lu Yi froze, then recovered and stepped closer, only to see—

Several pythons, thicker than Xie Rong’s arm, were wrapped around his waist, shoulders, and calves, passing between his thighs. Xie Rong slowly raised his right hand to stroke the head of one snake, while the heads of the other snakes gathered at his chest, rubbing against him.

Lu Yi simply strode to the shore, about three feet away from Xie Rong. As soon as he clearly saw everything, his pupils suddenly contracted.

The person in the lake was leaning back slightly, his lips pale, eyes closed, clearly unconscious. A cut had been made on his chest, and threads of blood that had just drifted out were being licked away by the flicking tongues of the black pythons.

Before infiltrating Miedie Valley, Lu Yi had already investigated that this matter was related to the Gu poison of South Xinjiang. Therefore, he had previously read many untold secrets in the Skylight Guard’s Library Pavilion.

For instance, when South Xinjiang shamans cultivated Gu, the child Gu were all fed with the blood of medicine slaves, but only the Mother Gu required feeding directly from the Gu King.

The more powerful the Mother Gu, the greater its appetite.

Those snakes, refined into Gu, were clearly treating Xie Rong as their mother, demanding his nourishment.

In other words, Xie Rong had actually refined himself into a Gu King.
