SYLM Chapter 3
by VolareAmidst the uncontrollable gasps and stares of the students, a young woman walked directly to the podium.
The woman appeared to be about 170cm tall, her long hair cascading over her shoulders like fine silk, black and soft. She had a dignified and elegant face with fair and delicate skin, like porcelain or jade, radiating a faint glow. Her peach blossom eyes sparkled, filled with a charming watery light. The high bridge of her nose had elegant and powerful lines, like a sculpture, and her full, rosy lips were slightly upturned, as if capable of melting any frost.
Damn! No one told them their new homeroom teacher was so beautiful?!
No one can resist beautiful things. The moment Fu Yi Wen saw the new homeroom teacher, her eyes lit up, and she immediately tossed aside all her previous negative assumptions about the new teacher!
While immersed in admiring the beauty, she didn’t forget to kick Chen Lu’s stool under the desk, signaling her to quickly look at the beautiful teacher!
However, to Fu Yi Wen’s surprise, Chen Lu was already tilting her head, staring intently at the new teacher even before she reminded her.
From Fu Yi Wen’s position, she could only see Chen Lu’s profile with its overly superior lines. She couldn’t clearly see her friend’s expression, but she could sense that the way she looked at the new homeroom teacher was definitely unusual!
Is this what they mean by “beauty is justice”? Even their Chen Lu, the famous unattainable beauty, was captivated by the new teacher’s face?!
……
How could it be her? What a coincidence.
Looking at that beautiful, gentle, and intellectual face, Chen Lu pursed her lips, a hint of disbelief flashing in her eyes.
……
Her gaze briefly swept across the youthful faces of the students below, and her initial nervousness gradually subsided. Gu Wan Jun stood firmly on the podium, smiling and introducing herself in a generous tone:
“Hello, students, I’m very happy to meet you all. I am your new homeroom teacher and Literature teacher. My name is Gu Wan Jun. Zheng Wei is on maternity leave, so from today onwards, I will be taking over her duties as the homeroom teacher of Class 12. I’m very happy to meet you all.”
The chalk moved smoothly, and the three characters ‘Gu Wan Jun’ were powerfully inscribed on the blackboard.
“This is my contact information, please take it down. You can call me anytime if there’s anything you need.”
Gu Wan Jun’s lips always held a warm smile, her voice was soft and pleasant, and her pace was moderate, making people feel like listening to her speak was simply a pleasure.
Judging from the expectant and excited expressions on the faces of the students below, they had a very good first impression of their new homeroom teacher.
After receiving positive feedback, Gu Wan Jun felt a little more relaxed.
“Since this is our first meeting, I may need to take up a little of your morning self-study time to understand the current situation of our class.”
Gu Wan Jun placed her hands on the podium, looking down at the list of class committee members attached to it.
“Which student is the class monitor, Li Wen Qi? Please raise your hand.”
“Teacher, that’s me!”
Hearing the voice, Gu Wan Jun saw a cute girl with a cherry Maruko hairstyle raise her hand.
“Okay, I’ve got it.”
Gu Wan Jun nodded with a smile, signaling Li Wen Qi to put her hand down. Then, she looked down at the podium again, “Um… which student is the Literature Representative, Chen Lu? Please raise your hand.”
“…”
Compared to the class monitor Li Wen Qi’s way of raising her hand and speaking, this time the class was silent, no one spoke, so Gu Wan Jun scanned around the entire room before finally discovering the person she was looking for in a certain position on the third row by the window.
When she clearly saw those crescent-shaped eyes, Gu Wan Jun’s eyebrows twitched slightly, a hint of shock flashing in her eyes, followed by a barely perceptible surprise.
It’s her? How could it be such a coincidence?
Looking at those delicate and bright eyes, although the other person was wearing a mask at the time, Gu Wan Jun was certain and sure that she hadn’t mistaken the person.
So her name is Chen Lu.
Recalling that Zheng Wei had said that the Literature Representative was a meticulous and thoughtful person, Gu Wan Jun felt that this evaluation was very fitting for Chen Lu’s delicate and beautiful face.
Considering that she was taking up morning self-study time, Gu Wan Jun suppressed her surprised emotions. She was just about to ask the other person if she was willing to continue being her Literature Representative when the other person suddenly took the initiative to stand up from her seat, speaking before she could:
“Teacher, can you choose someone else as the Literature Representative?”
“…”
As soon as the words fell, everyone in the classroom’s gaze instantly fixed on Chen Lu, who had just expressed her position, each face filled with shock.
Fu Yi Wen, who was sitting behind Chen Lu, almost spat out a mouthful of old blood when she heard Chen Lu say this. She subconsciously exchanged a look with Jiang Zhen Zhen, who was sitting in the first row near the door.
Fu Yi Wen: No, me saying I’m not going to do it anymore was just talk, but Chen Lu actually did something big without saying a word, directly going against the new homeroom teacher?!
Jiang Zhen Zhen: What did you think? I told you not to talk nonsense, now look what happened…
……
Chen Lu’s answer caught Gu Wan Jun off guard. Although she had imagined that the students might resist her because of the sudden change of teacher before coming, Gu Wan Jun didn’t expect this person to be Chen Lu.
Gu Wan Jun collected the emotions in her eyes and asked with a smile, “May I ask why?”
“My health isn’t very good, and the pressure of studying is high this semester. I’ve been having some neurasthenia and migraines recently and need more time to rest. I wanted to tell Teacher Zheng before, but I didn’t have time before you came, I hope Teacher Gu understands.”
Chen Lu tried to make her words as tactful as possible. It was true that she didn’t want to be the Literature Representative for other teachers, but also, she definitely didn’t want to embarrass the new teacher. This was the minimum respect a student should have for a teacher.
……
Chen Lu’s poor health was something the whole class had long believed, because Chen Lu was always asking for leave. Sometimes she wouldn’t come for two or three days, so it was hard for people not to suspect that she was often sick, to the point of not being able to come to school.
But is that the truth?
Of course not. Only Fu Yi Wen and Jiang Zhen Zhen knew that when Chen Lu took leave, it was mostly because she had a rare burst of inspiration and couldn’t stop writing her novel, or because she had a migraine from staying up late and really couldn’t come to school.
In Fu Yi Wen’s opinion, the reason why Chen Lu was neurasthenic was mostly because she was tired from writing those jump-scare thriller novels.
……
Perhaps because the girl’s face did look too pale, or because her tone indicated that she was determined, Gu Wan Jun hid the emotions in her eyes and didn’t force it any further:
“I see, since your health isn’t good, then you should rest well. After all, health is the foundation of everything, health is the most important thing. You can sit down first. Our class should have more than one Literature Representative, right?”
Gu Wan Jun looked down at the class roster on the podium and then looked up and asked:
“Which student is Qin Hao Yang?”
As soon as she finished speaking, a bookish-looking boy sitting in the back row raised his hand.
Gu Wan Jun asked Qin Hao Yang to take over Chen Lu’s work temporarily, and then they would choose a second Literature Representative if he couldn’t handle it.
……
After getting to know the various class committee members and subject representatives, Gu Wan Jun concluded with a statement:
“I am very much looking forward to establishing a close and harmonious teaching relationship with everyone. I will do my best to provide you with guidance and assistance, both in your studies and in your lives. I hope you can treat me as a friend you can confide in and share with. You can come to me with any ideas or problems at any time. I hope that our Grade Two (12) class can become a united, friendly, and mutually helpful group, where we can grow and progress together.”
……
——
After morning self-study, Gu Wan Jun called Chen Lu and Qin Hao Yang to the office.
At this time, the teachers in the Literature office were all there.
Chen Lu was a familiar face in the Literature office. As soon as she entered the office, Teacher Li Bing, known for her gossipy loud voice, smiled and teased her as usual while looking in the mirror and touching up her makeup:
“Oh, you’re here, little beauty Literature Representative.”
“Hello, Teacher.” Chen Lu nodded in greeting.
“Yeah, hello.” Li Bing smiled, pulled out a few tissues, and got up to leave the office.
From these few short sentences, it could be seen that Chen Lu was indeed very familiar with the other teachers in the office.
Gu Wan Jun inconspicuously withdrew her gaze from Chen Lu’s profile.
……
After returning to her seat, Gu Wan Jun instructed Chen Lu to work hard and use the time between classes to hand over the representative work for the Literature class to Qin Hao Yang, and then used the excuse of going to the printing room to pick up the Literature test papers to send Qin Hao Yang away.
……
Their eyes met, and the faint scent of white tea wafted straight into Chen Lu’s nose. She felt a little uncomfortable being stared at, and was about to say, ‘Teacher, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go back to class first,’ when Gu Wan Jun looked into her eyes and said softly:
“Thank you for this morning.”
“Ah… you’re welcome.” Chen Lu shook her head, thinking that this person probably hadn’t recognized her as the person whose foot she stepped on in the bus.
“Have you seen a doctor?”
“What?”
“You said you weren’t feeling well, have you seen a doctor? What did the doctor say?”
“…”
As soon as the words fell, a look of shock flashed in Chen Lu’s eyes.
Could it be that this person saw through the real reason why she didn’t want to be the Literature Representative?
Their eyes met, and Gu Wan Jun kept looking at Chen Lu, and the concern in those peach blossom eyes seemed completely genuine.
Perhaps it was because she had smelled too much of the good-smelling white tea scent from the person in front of her, Chen Lu was a little dazed. She took two seconds to adjust her emotions and answered truthfully:
“I just get migraines from time to time, the doctor prescribed some medicine.”
“Migraines are not a minor matter, you must listen to the doctor and take your medicine on time.”
“Okay.”
“Teacher Zheng Wei said that you are a particularly good Literature Representative. After hearing her say that, I was especially looking forward to you being my Literature Representative.”
“…”
Gu Wan Jun suddenly changed the subject, and Chen Lu didn’t know how to answer.
Not getting a response, Gu Wan Jun didn’t mind, she continued with a smile:
“I know the students are reluctant to part with Teacher Zheng Wei, especially you, right?”
“…” Chen Lu didn’t deny it, she didn’t want to lie.
“Everyone has emotions, and they haven’t fully accepted me yet, I understand this very, very well. You are students who have been taught by Teacher Zheng Wei, and no one can change that, but I hope you don’t delay your studies and grades because you are resisting the new teacher, do I make myself clear?”
“Okay.”
Chen Lu nodded, the new homeroom teacher’s directness was a bit unexpected.
……
A dozen seconds later, the bell for the first class rang on time, and the conversation had to end there.
Gu Wan Jun let Chen Lu go back to class.
In the office, other Literature teachers who had class in the first period also left the office one after another with their textbooks.
Gu Wan Jun taught Literature to Class 1 and Class 12, and she had no classes in the first two periods today. She took out a stack of monthly exam grade sheets, preparing to analyze the results of Class 12’s recent monthly exams.
At the same time, Li Bing came back. Also not having class in the first period, she came over to talk to Gu Wan Jun.
The two were about the same age, and they got along more like friends, and their communication methods were also more direct.
“Hey, Wan Jun, is that little beauty still going to be your Literature Representative?”
“She’s not.”
“She’s not?” Li Bing looked surprised: “Why not? You don’t want to use her?”
“No, her health isn’t very good, she said she wants to rest.” Gu Wan Jun said as she took out the stapler from the drawer, preparing to staple the transcripts together, so that it would be easier to browse.
“I see, that’s really a pity.”
Li Bing clicked her tongue twice, looking regretful:
“This child was very diligent when she was Teacher Wei’s Literature Representative. All the teachers liked her very much, and often asked her to help pass on a message or deliver a test paper or something. That child doesn’t talk much, but she’s efficient, and her grades are also good. Her Literature test papers are so beautifully written, whoever teaches her, their face will be radiant. We used to joke with Teacher Wei that she had found a treasure!”
Click.
The stapler made a sound, but probably because there was something wrong with the stapler, the first staple didn’t go in well.
Gu Wan Jun silently removed the unstapled staple. Li Bing on the side didn’t realize that there was anything wrong at all. She reeled off a large list of Chen Lu’s advantages, and how all the teachers liked her.
Fortunately, later, other teachers in the office called Li Bing away to discuss issues related to switching classes, and Gu Wan Jun’s ears were able to find peace.
Seeing that the upper left corner of the stack of transcripts in her hand was almost torn apart by herself, Gu Wan Jun belatedly pursed her lips and sighed helplessly.
She did want Chen Lu to continue being her Literature Representative, but that child had to be willing to do it.
……
Grade Two (12) Class.
The first period was Math class, and the Math teacher Wang Zhen De was already standing on the podium five minutes early, preparing to start class.
Seeing Chen Lu enter the class just as the bell for the class rang, Fu Yi Wen finally breathed a sigh of relief for her friend.
The Math teacher of Class 12 was a small, thin old man with a strange temper. He was an old teacher who had been teaching at Ningcheng No. 1 High School since its founding. He was currently the Party Secretary of the school, and even the principal had to respectfully call him Secretary Wang or Teacher Wang when they saw him.
This old Wang head hated being late for class the most. No matter what the reason, as long as you were late for class, you had to hold the book and test paper and stand at the back of the class to listen to the entire period. Even the King of Heaven couldn’t change that. Fu Yi Wen had gone to the liberal arts office to deliver homework and check the Politics test papers after class. A few times she came back late, and she was happy to get the result of standing for a period.
Seeing Chen Lu return to her seat, Fu Yi Wen originally wanted to ask her what the new homeroom teacher had asked her about, and why she came back later than Qin Hao Yang, but before she could ask the question, the Math teacher patted the podium and said that class was starting.
……
Twenty minutes later, group discussion, the front and back tables as a group.
Chen Lu and Fu Yi Wen, who were sitting in the third and fourth rows, were in a group. As soon as the Math teacher said to discuss, Chen Lu turned around as usual with the Math test paper and that black notebook.
The black notebook, blocked by the Math test paper, was densely written. Chen Lu looked serious, drawing and marking on it with a pen. Obviously, this person hadn’t listened to the first half of the Math class at all.
During the group discussion, the teacher would go down to inspect, and the Math teacher was no exception.
Seeing that Old Wang Head had walked to the side of the class near the door and was explaining the questions to the Math representative Jiang Zhen Zhen, Fu Yi Wen dared to use the Math test paper to cover her mouth and whispered:
“Hey, Chen Lu, our new homeroom teacher, that Teacher Gu, what did she say to you when she called you over? Did she make things difficult for you?”
“She didn’t say anything, and she didn’t make things difficult for me. She just asked me to hand over the representative work to Qin Hao Yang.”
Chen Lu answered truthfully, her eyes were always fixed on that black notebook, and the action of writing on it never stopped.
“Just that? Nothing else?”
“Yeah, just that.”
“That’s not right, then why did you come back later than Qin Hao Yang?”
“He went to pick up the test papers, so he came back earlier.”
“Now that you mention it, Qin Hao Yang did come back with a stack of Literature test papers…”
Fu Yi Wen scratched her chin with the Math test paper, then thought for a moment:
“But I still think that our new teacher looks at you a little strangely. Hey, I said, you wouldn’t have offended her because of the Literature Representative matter, right? If that’s really the case, then it’s all over—”
Before she could finish speaking, Fu Yi Wen raised her head and saw Wang Zhen De standing behind Chen Lu with his hands behind his back at some point. Those sharp, angry eyes were staring at Chen Lu, who was using the Math test paper as a cover and actually writing non-stop in the black notebook…
Fu Yi Wen’s expression froze completely, turning into stone on the spot, her heart almost jumped out of her chest in fright!
It’s over, this time it’s really over…
