Chapter 110 “What should I do? Should I go die?”

Regarding Tang Ying’s car accident, Tang Lan and the Jiang family had the same opinion and simultaneously blocked the news from the outside world. As a result, when Gu Wan Jun went to school on Monday, she didn’t see Tang Ying. When she asked, the other teachers in the office said that Tang Ying had taken a leave of absence for personal reasons, but no one knew exactly what it was.

Tang Ying wasn’t someone who would easily take a leave of absence, yet now she had taken one.

Could it be that the anniversary celebration issue hadn’t been resolved yet?

After the second class, Gu Wan Jun returned to the office, feeling somewhat worried. Her finger hovered over the name [Tang Ying] on the directory for a moment, but she finally pressed the dial button.

The phone rang for a long time before it was answered, and Tang Ying’s hoarse voice came from the other end: “Hello?”

    “……”

That “hello,” as if it had been rubbed with sandpaper, made Gu Wan Jun immediately notice something was wrong. She never imagined that someone who had been so full of life was now hospitalized.

On the phone, Tang Ying gave the hospital name and room number, her voice revealing a fatigue she had never shown before. After hanging up, Gu Wan Jun immediately asked the grade director for leave and ran out with her bag.

Half an hour later, Yunjiang City People’s Hospital.

When she pushed open the hospital room door, sunlight streamed in diagonally through the slats of the blinds, casting mottled shadows on the white sheets. Tang Ying was leaning against the headboard, her right leg and right arm both in casts. Several papers were spread out in front of her, seemingly documents related to stocks and funds.

It had only been two days, but Gu Wan Jun felt that the person in front of her had lost a lot of weight. The hospital gown hung loosely on her shoulders, her collarbones protruding so much that just looking at them made one feel uncomfortable. Her face, which was always meticulously made up, was now as pale as paper, with heavy dark circles under her eyes. Those danfeng eyes, which used to be filled with cold, strong, shrewd calculations, were now dull and lifeless, as if someone had taken away her soul.

“Tang Ying?” Gu Wan Jun’s voice was a little anxious as she quickly approached the bed: “What happened to you?”

Hearing the voice, Tang Ying slowly raised her head, her gaze focusing somewhat sluggishly on the face of the person in front of her. The corner of her mouth twitched, as if she wanted to force a smile, but she couldn’t:

    “You’re here.”

    “What happened?”

Gu Wan Jun put down her bag and sat down on the chair next to the bed. As she spoke, she wanted to reach out and touch Tang Ying’s hand, but stopped when she saw the purplish-blue needle marks on the other’s wrist, unsure of where to touch.

“How did you end up like this? What happened?”

Gu Wan Jun’s words were originally intended to ask how Tang Ying ended up in the hospital, but the person in front of her stared at her intently, a trace of fragility and pain that Gu Wan Jun had never seen before flashing in her eyes. Tang Ying’s voice was as light as a feather falling:

“Fu Yi Wen doesn’t want me anymore.”

    “……”

    Doesn’t want her anymore…

    What does that mean?

Gu Wan Jun’s heart sank, and she didn’t react for a moment, her expression serious: “Wh-what?”

Tang Ying repeated each word carefully, each syllable seeming to be squeezed out from between her teeth:

“Fu Yi Wen doesn’t want me anymore. She said she won’t love me anymore.”

    “……”

Tang Ying’s words were like a thunderclap in her ears, causing Gu Wan Jun to gasp and mutter to herself:

    “…How could that be…”

Hearing her friend’s words, Tang Ying suddenly laughed, the laughter as dry as dead leaves rubbing together, as if it would break with a gust of wind:

“Yeah, how could that be? She clearly liked me so much, how could she say she doesn’t like me anymore?”

As she spoke, Tang Ying’s eyes turned red. Gu Wan Jun rarely faced such a scene and didn’t know what to say for a moment, so she could only gently hold her trembling hand:

“What exactly happened? Did you guys have a fight?”

“Saturday night, after I got off the plane, I went to find her.”

Tang Ying habitually tugged at the corner of her mouth, but her voice couldn’t help but tremble:

“She was standing at the door, looking at me with such a calm expression. She said she had had enough, she said I had never cared about her, she said I wanted everything, two-timing…”

Hearing ‘two-timing,’ Gu Wan Jun’s heart skipped a beat. She gently stroked Tang Ying’s back, carefully looking into her friend’s eyes: “And then?”

“Then we argued, and in a fit of anger, I said it would be better if we just broke up.”

As if stung by something, before the words were finished, Tang Ying suddenly grabbed Gu Wan Jun’s hand, her grip surprisingly strong, her voice trembling:

“I didn’t mean it, I really didn’t mean it, I just… just didn’t know how to coax her, I didn’t expect her to actually agree…”

    “She, she agreed?”

“Yeah, she said she would consider it…”

The thin shoulders under her palm were trembling violently, as if they were about to fall apart at any moment. Tang Ying lowered her somewhat unfocused eyes, like a child who had done something wrong:

“Later, when I was driving away, my mind was blank, and I didn’t even notice that truck coming…”

    “……”

Gu Wan Jun couldn’t help but frown, looking worriedly at Tang Ying’s arm and leg in casts.

    “It’s ironic, isn’t it?”

Tang Ying forced a self-deprecating smile, her eyes red with a heart-wrenching expression:

“I hate being out of control the most in my life, but I almost lost my life because of it.”

    “……”

Even someone as eloquent as Gu Wan Jun didn’t know how to respond at this moment.

The Tang Ying she knew was always in control, whether she was getting straight to the point in the classroom or daring to speak out in the face of injustice, or even handling the issue of a family marriage with ease, as if she could catch the sky if it fell. There was nothing in this world that Tang Ying couldn’t do.

But now, this always high-spirited woman seemed to have been drained of all her energy, leaving only an empty shell.

She loved Fu Yi Wen, loved her to the point of losing her self-control.

“Yesterday she came to the hospital and told me a lot about the past, she said she was so tired, she said she didn’t want to continue anymore, she said she wouldn’t love me anymore, even if I showed her the contract she signed before, even if I scolded her and tried to provoke her, she didn’t care…”

“She doesn’t care about me anymore…”

“Gu Wan Jun, tell me… if Fu Yi Wen really doesn’t love me anymore, what should I do? Should I go die…”

The word “die” made Gu Wan Jun’s heart ache. She reached out and hugged Tang Ying’s violently shaking shoulders. The room fell silent, with only the regular “beep” sound of the monitor. The smell of disinfectant became more and more pungent in the silence, stinging both of their noses.

How did things become like this?

How did Tang Ying also reach this point?

    Is this their retribution?

Neither of the two people troubled by love spoke again. After an unknown amount of time, the sound of the doorknob turning abruptly broke the frozen air.

Jiang Ying Xu walked in wearing a smart navy blue suit, the military emblem on his tie clip gleaming coldly. He held a fruit basket in his left hand and a bouquet of Tang Ying’s most hated red roses in his right.

The man seemed to recognize Gu Wan Jun. After entering the door, he took the initiative to nod and smile at Gu Wan Jun. Gu Wan Jun was slightly stunned, then quickly adjusted her emotions and nodded in response. She glanced at Tang Ying, who had instantly straightened her back with a cold face on the bed, and tactfully picked up her bag and said goodbye.

The moment the hospital door closed, a trace of ruthless coldness spread across Tang Ying’s eyes.

Jiang Ying Xu placed the roses and fruit basket on the bedside table, his tone concerned: “How are you feeling today?”

    “Your goal has been achieved.”

Tang Ying’s words pricked Jiang Ying Xu’s eyebrows imperceptibly. When he turned around, the man’s face wore a confused expression: “What do you mean?”

Tang Ying finally raised her eyes to look at him, her eyes fixed on the man’s face with an icy gaze:

“Jiang Ying Xu, don’t think I don’t know what you’re planning. Do you really think I don’t know who took those photos that were sent to Tang Lan’s desk before? What a hypocrite.”

    “……”

As if he had expected this result long ago, there wasn’t a trace of surprise in Jiang Ying Xu’s expression. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice remained steady: “Tang Ying, we have an agreement between us, and I have the right to ensure the security of our marriage.”

“You still know that there is an agreement between us!”

Tang Ying suddenly raised her voice. She abruptly tore off the needle on the back of her hand, and blood beads splashed onto the snow-white sheet, quickly spreading out. This sudden action made Jiang Ying Xu’s face change. He quickly stepped forward to hold her bleeding hand, but Tang Ying grabbed his wrist with her other hand, and then a stinging pain spread across the back of his hand. Nails coated with nail polish dug into the man’s rough flesh, as if a venomous snake had bared its bloodthirsty fangs:

“Listen to me carefully, I don’t care what you’re planning, I’m telling you clearly now, no matter what Fu Yi Wen said to me, she is my person, as long as I still like her, it’s not over between us.”

    “……”

The slight pain on the back of his hand was nothing to a soldier who was often injured, but when he met Tang Ying’s eyes, which could be described as gloomy at the moment, Jiang Ying Xu couldn’t help but frown.

“I’m leaving my words here. If you dare to interfere again, I don’t mind sending those photos you had someone take to the media.”

“Are you crazy?” Jiang Ying Xu’s face changed again and again. The sound of nurses’ footsteps faintly came from the corridor. He had to lower his voice with a calm face: “If the media finds out, we—”

“I don’t mind going to hell with you.”

Tang Ying interrupted, and the nails inserted into the flesh were disgustedly pulled out at the moment of eye contact. She let go of him, but her eyes were still staring at those deep-set eyes:

    “I mean what I say.”

    “……”

It seemed that the wind was rising. The sun hanging high outside the window was suddenly blocked by clouds that had drifted in from somewhere. The room fell into dimness. Jiang Ying Xu stood in the shadows, his facial muscles twitching slightly, but finally returning to calm. Before leaving, he glanced at Tang Ying and squeezed out a sentence in a low voice:

“Get some rest, I’ll come see you again next time.”

    “……”

    —-

It was already early autumn, and the weather was changing rapidly. It was still sunny during the day, but as evening approached, heavy clouds quietly pressed down.

Near the end of school, Gu Wan Jun, who was packing her things to go home, received a call from her mother. On the other end of the phone, her mother said that she had already taken Duo Duo away.

“Your dad and I are bored at home, so it’s good that Duo Duo is here to keep us company.”

On the phone, her mother said that the two old people were lonely, but in reality, it was because they had heard from their granddaughter Duo Duo that Chen Lu had moved in, and they wanted to take this opportunity to leave some space for the young people to be alone.

Gu Wan Jun understood her mother’s intention.

But now was really not a good time.

After hanging up the phone, looking at the increasingly dark sky outside the window, Gu Wan Jun felt a sourness in her chest. Just as she was about to sigh, the phone, which had been quiet for a while, vibrated again.

This time, the caller ID showed Chen Lu’s name.

Gu Wan Jun’s expression froze for a moment. She subconsciously smoothed the non-existent wrinkles at the corners of her clothes, and her fingertips hovered over the answer button for a few seconds before solemnly pressing down.

    “Hello?”

    “It’s me.”

Chen Lu’s unique cold voice came from the other end of the phone:

“I just went to the kindergarten, and the kindergarten teacher said that Duo Duo was picked up by her maternal grandmother.”

“Yeah, my mom just called me.”

Gu Wan Jun unconsciously gripped the corner of her shirt, her tone a little guilty: “Thank you for making the trip for nothing, I’m sorry.”

As soon as the words “I’m sorry” were spoken, the earpiece suddenly fell silent. Gu Wan Jun bit her lip. She could almost imagine Chen Lu’s slightly furrowed brows at this moment.

The little girl hated her being so distant and polite.

Sure enough, just as Gu Wan Jun thought, the person on the other end of the earpiece was silent for a while, and when she spoke again, her tone was obviously a few degrees colder: “Are you off work?”

“Just finished class, packing things up.”

“I’m at a newly opened dessert shop near your school.” Chen Lu reported the name of a dessert shop, speaking very quickly: “Come find me, we’ll go back together later.”

After speaking, she didn’t give Gu Wan Jun a chance to refuse at all, and the phone was hung up directly.

The phone in her hand was a little hot. Gu Wan Jun turned her head to stare out the window, watching the first drop of rain hit the glass without warning, winding a transparent water mark.

Twenty minutes later, Gu Wan Jun hurried to the dessert shop that Chen Lu had mentioned, holding an umbrella.

The rain that started suddenly had soaked her trouser legs, and her hair tips were also covered with tiny water droplets. She closed her umbrella at the door, took a deep breath and pushed the door open. The next second, the rich aroma of cream mixed with the bitterness of coffee wafted over her.

After entering the door, Gu Wan Jun immediately saw Chen Lu standing not far away in front of the cake display cabinet. The little girl was wearing a simple white shirt and black straight-leg pants today. Her slightly curly long hair was casually scattered over her shoulders, and she was currently looking down at the cakes in the display cabinet.

Gu Wan Jun pursed her lips and was about to step forward, but noticed that a young man in sportswear was standing next to Chen Lu, chatting with Chen Lu enthusiastically at this moment.

Gu Wan Jun’s footsteps paused, and a name so unfamiliar that she almost couldn’t remember it flashed through her mind in an instant.

    Jiang Pengfei.

    Why is he here?
