SYLM Chapter 108

Chapter 108 “Yes, I like her.”
Emergency room entrance.
The stark white light illuminated the streaks on Fu Yi Wen’s face, a mix of tears and sweat, making them shine. She was trembling all over.
A soldier’s counter-surveillance instincts seemed to be ingrained in Jiang Ying Xu’s bones. He noticed he was being watched almost immediately. When he turned and saw Fu Yi Wen, looking as if she’d been fished out of cold water, his thick eyebrows furrowed almost imperceptibly. His eyes, like two deep wells, appeared calm, but underneath swirled emotions that were impossible to decipher.
With just one glance, Fu Yi Wen felt as though this man had seen right through her.
“Miss Fu.”
Jiang Ying Xu spoke first, giving a slight nod, his voice low and steady:
“I didn’t expect to see you here.”
Despite saying he didn’t expect it, there wasn’t a hint of surprise on the man’s face. His tone was so even, as if he were greeting an old friend.
But they were far from friends.
Fu Yi Wen opened her mouth, her throat dry and aching. She wanted to ask Jiang Ying Xu why he was here, but the motion sickness hadn’t completely robbed her of her senses. She knew she had no right to question him.
Jiang Ying Xu was Tang Ying’s legal husband. His presence here was perfectly reasonable.
But what about her?
To put it kindly, she and Jiang Ying Xu were rivals in love. To put it bluntly, she was nothing more than a third party in their marriage.
She had no status. She was nothing.
Digging her nails into her palm, the pain helped Fu Yi Wen stay somewhat clear-headed. Compared to the well-dressed man before her, she could only imagine how disheveled she looked.
But right now, Tang Ying’s safety was all that mattered.
Summoning what little dignity she had left, Fu Yi Wen shuffled forward, forcing out a question:
“How is she?”
The man’s gaze lingered on her briefly before turning towards the emergency room:
“Initial diagnosis is a concussion, a fractured right arm, and a fractured right fibula. They’re doing a CT scan now.”
“What happened? How could she get into a car accident?”
“The driver was drunk and ran a red light. He’s fully responsible. The police are handling it.”
Jiang Ying Xu stated the facts plainly. His tone was calm as he raised his hand to check his watch. The cold light reflected off the watch face stung Fu Yi Wen’s eyes.
Throughout the entire exchange, the man hadn’t shown a single sign of distress.
Compared to his composure, Fu Yi Wen felt like a clown, making a fuss over nothing.
Knowing the general situation, Fu Yi Wen fell silent. She leaned against the cold wall and slowly slid down to the floor, hugging her knees to her chest. Her eyes were fixed on the red light above the emergency room door, staring until they ached, her chest heaving with heartbeats so loud she was sure the entire corridor could hear them.
“Miss Fu.”
After what felt like an eternity, the deep voice spoke again. Fu Yi Wen turned her head to meet Jiang Ying Xu’s unfathomable gaze:
“You look pale. Should I call a doctor?”
A perfunctory inquiry, delivered without any emotional inflection, perfectly in line with Fu Yi Wen’s impression of the man. She shook her head expressionlessly, refocusing her gaze on the red light of the emergency room.
Twenty minutes later, the emergency room doors finally opened.
A male doctor wearing square glasses emerged. Fu Yi Wen immediately stood up to meet him. After squatting for so long, her legs were numb, and she stumbled slightly as she walked. She was about to ask about Tang Ying’s condition, but the doctor seemed not to see her, heading straight for Jiang Ying Xu on the other side:
“Brother Jiang.” The doctor patted Jiang Ying Xu on the shoulder familiarly, his tone very polite:
“Sister-in-law is awake. Fractured right arm and right fibula, plus a few abrasions, but nothing too serious. She’ll need to rest for a while. You can go in to see her in a bit.”
“Thank you.” Jiang Ying Xu nodded slightly: “And thank you for notifying me so quickly.”
“We’re practically family, no need to be so formal.”
The two nodded to each other, seemingly on good terms.
Fu Yi Wen stood to the side, unable to get a word in, only able to glean information about Tang Ying’s condition from their conversation.
Hearing the doctor say that Tang Ying was not in serious danger, Fu Yi Wen’s numb legs registered a delayed ache. She sniffled, tears threatening to fall.
Hearing the doctor say that she could go in to see her, Fu Yi Wen bit her lip, a flicker of hope she knew she shouldn’t have ignited in her heart…
She wanted to see Tang Ying, even just for a moment. She wanted to see with her own eyes that she was safe.
But she didn’t know if she would get the chance.
As if seeing right through Fu Yi Wen’s thoughts, after seeing off his doctor friend, Jiang Ying Xu turned and gestured with his hand, inviting her in.
What did this mean…
Fu Yi Wen could hardly believe her eyes: “I… can I go in?”
“Yes.”
The deep voice remained steady. Fu Yi Wen realized she understood this man less and less.
But whether Jiang Ying Xu was friend or foe, now was not the time to be modest. Fu Yi Wen quietly thanked him, then reached out with a trembling hand and gently pushed open the door to the hospital room.
When Fu Yi Wen entered the room, Tang Ying was staring blankly at the ceiling, her long, wavy hair spread across the snow-white pillow like spilled ink. Her right arm and right leg were in casts, the gauze on her forehead stained with specks of red, her dry lips almost devoid of color.
Turning her head and seeing Fu Yi Wen, the phoenix eyes that were usually frozen over with coldness suddenly melted, turning into a hazy, indistinct mist.
“Fu Yi Wen…”
Her normally sharp voice was as rough as sandpaper. Just saying her name seemed to drain all her strength.
Looking at Tang Ying in this state, Fu Yi Wen felt as if she’d been punched in the face. Her already red eyes and nose stung with a sudden heat. But before she could step forward, a sound of high heels clicking against the floor echoed from the doorway, followed by voices–
“Mom, you’re here.”
“Thank you for your hard work, Xiao Jiang. How’s Tang Ying?”
“She’s inside. The doctor has examined and bandaged her up. She’s fine, but she needs to rest.”
“Mm, why didn’t you go in to see her?”
“I…”
“What? Is there someone else inside?”
Before Jiang Ying Xu could answer, the hospital room door was pushed open forcefully.
The two people standing in the doorway met each other’s gaze. Tang Lan was wearing an impeccable business suit, her hair pinned up perfectly, exuding an undeniable air of authority.
With just one look, the sharp, assertive gaze that swept over Fu Yi Wen felt like a knife, making her shiver and feel a chill down her spine.
With three more people suddenly in the already spacious hospital room, the air seemed to thin, making it hard to breathe.
“It’s you.” Tang Lan sized Fu Yi Wen up and down.
“A… Auntie, hello…”
“What, is the restaurant not busy?”
“…”
The obvious sarcasm in Tang Lan’s voice made Fu Yi Wen feel as if she had fallen into an ice cave. Almost at the same time, Tang Ying’s voice suddenly rose from the bed: “Mom!”
Tang Ying’s reaction was a little too excited, and it was immediately followed by a muffled groan as she pulled at her injuries. Seeing this, Fu Yi Wen was about to step forward, but Jiang Ying Xu, who had been standing behind Tang Lan, immediately rushed to the bedside in three steps, his tone concerned: “Are you alright?”
“None of your business. Don’t touch me.”
Tang Ying’s voice was cold and hard, her watery eyes fixed on Fu Yi Wen, who was standing at the door.
Their eyes met across the space. Seeing the bloodstains seeping through the gauze on Tang Ying’s forehead, Fu Yi Wen bit her lower lip hard, tasting a sweet, metallic flavor. She felt like her heart was being twisted by iron tongs, but she couldn’t do anything.
Looking at Tang Lan at the door, and then at Jiang Ying Xu next to the bed, she suddenly realized how inappropriate her presence was.
One was Tang Ying’s mother, the other was Tang Ying’s husband. What was she in all this?
She shouldn’t have come.
Now that she had seen that Tang Ying was safe, there was nothing for her to stay for.
Fu Yi Wen swallowed the bitterness in her throat and forced a smile:
“Tang… Teacher Tang, I’m relieved to see you’re okay. You should rest. I’ll go now.”
“Fu Yi Wen!”
Seeing the only person she wanted to see leave, Tang Ying desperately tried to sit up, only to be stopped by a cold glare from her mother, Tang Lan.
“That works out.” Tang Lan walked into the room, taking over the conversation: “I have some things I want to say to Tang Ying alone. Xiao Jiang, you should go out too.”
The two exchanged a look, and Jiang Ying Xu nodded slightly, following Fu Yi Wen out of the room.
At the last moment before the door closed, Fu Yi Wen’s vision was blurry, but she could still clearly see Tang Ying reaching out to her, her lips trembling uncontrollably.
Soon, only the mother and daughter remained in the room.
Although the air wasn’t as thin as before, it felt as though it had frozen in place. The smell of disinfectant mixed with Tang Lan’s sandalwood perfume, making Tang Ying’s fingertips tremble with cold.
As she watched Fu Yi Wen’s departing figure disappear through the crack in the door, she felt like an invisible hand had gripped her heart, hurting so badly that she couldn’t breathe.
Knowing her daughter better than anyone, as if sensing Tang Ying’s thoughts, a well-maintained hand rested on Tang Ying’s plastered right leg, not applying much pressure, but carrying an undeniable force:
“If you don’t want her restaurant to close down tomorrow, you’ll lie here and behave yourself.”
Tang Lan’s voice was like a drawn sword, accurately cutting off Tang Ying’s attempt to get up. As soon as she spoke, the person in the bed froze, suddenly looking up, her eyes full of anger:
“Tang Lan.”
These two words were almost squeezed out from between Tang Ying’s teeth, hoarse but sharp.
But Tang Lan didn’t care.
She straightened her business suit, sat down on the bed, then took off the glasses she only wore during meetings from the bridge of her nose, took out a lens cloth, and slowly and deliberately wiped them, her meaningful gaze always fixed on her daughter’s face.
“You sound energetic, so it seems you’re really okay.”
Tang Lan’s tone was so calm that there wasn’t a ripple. As she put her glasses back on, the cold light reflected from the lenses concealed the danger in her eyes:
“The driver has been caught. Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
“…”
Tang Ying’s expression stiffened for a moment, then she turned her face away, looking out the window.
In the darkness of night, the neon signs on the tall buildings outside the hospital flickered with dazzling light.
Very much like the headlights of the truck that had crashed into her.
“He was drunk and ran a red light. He’s fully responsible. What do you want me to say?”
Tang Ying’s voice was cold and dry, and her throat seemed to still have the taste of dust from the exploding airbags.
“I watched the surveillance footage sent by the traffic police.”
Tang Lan paused deliberately, her sharp gaze trying to see through her daughter:
“He’s fully responsible, that’s true, but you clearly had time to swerve out of the way. What were you thinking about for those ten or so seconds?”
“…”
Her hand, with the medicinal patch, silently clenched the blanket.
What was she thinking at that moment.
Tang Ying bit her back teeth.
In the blinding headlights, she had only seen Fu Yi Wen’s face, the little chubby girl who always smiled like the sun, but now her eyes were filled with despair, and she said in a calm tone, “Okay, I’ll think about it.”
The memories were too painful. Tang Ying blinked twice and raised her chin: “What do you want to ask?”
“You know what I want to ask.”
Tang Lan’s voice was very low, but every word was like poison:
“You’ve been distracted all day. After coming back from Hong Kong, you went to that little girl’s restaurant as soon as possible, and then you got into a car accident. What did she say to you that made you unable to concentrate on driving?”
“It has nothing to do with her. I just didn’t see it.”
“Is that so.”
Tang Lan’s tone was faint. She seemed like she wanted to say something else, but her eyes accidentally swept over Tang Ying’s swollen left cheek, which wasn’t covered by her long hair. An unhealed palm print was vaguely exposed under the pale light.
“Does it still hurt?”
“…”
The topic changed suddenly. Seeing her mother’s gaze fall on her left cheek, Tang Ying didn’t say anything. Her tongue instinctively pressed against the wound on the inside of her mouth, and the taste of blood spread through her mouth.
The slap that morning had come unexpectedly. She hadn’t even had time to react, and her head had been pulled to the side.
It was the first time Tang Lan had hit her.
“This morning was the first time I hit you.”
Perhaps it was true that mothers and daughters were connected, Tang Lan accurately said what Tang Ying was thinking, her tone was inaudible: “The source is still that Fu Yi Wen.”
“…”
The memories of the morning came like a tide. As soon as these words were spoken, the atmosphere between mother and daughter seemed even more strained.
Before leaving the house that morning, Tang Ying had received a call from Jiang Ying Xu.
The news of Jiang Bo Yun’s death was like a bomb, blowing up her carefully prepared anniversary plan.
As a member of the Jiang family, Tang Ying, as a niece-in-law, had to attend the funeral for both sentimental and rational reasons.
But at that time, Tang Ying only had one thought in her mind.
Today was the anniversary of Fu Yi Wen’s restaurant, and she couldn’t break her promise again.
So on the phone, before Jiang Ying Xu could finish speaking, Tang Ying coldly stated that she had something to do today. She asked Jiang Ying Xu to go to Hong Kong first, and she would arrive later. Then she hung up the phone, grabbed the car keys, and rushed out of the house.
Tang Ying wanted to go to Fu Yi Wen’s appointment first, and then make other plans. But what she didn’t expect was that as soon as her car got off the Chengnan Expressway, it was blocked by four black cars in front and behind. This small episode caused the smooth traffic flow to experience a serious traffic jam. The vehicles following Tang Ying’s car honked their horns in dissatisfaction, but Tang Ying’s car was stuck on the side of the road and couldn’t move at all. In a burst of piercing horn sounds, she saw the license plate of the leading car–
It was her mother Tang Lan’s car.
The mother and daughter were deadlocked for several minutes, and neither of them got out of the car. When her phone rang, Tang Ying almost crushed the steering wheel.
“If you want Fu Yi Wen’s restaurant anniversary to go smoothly, get out of the car and get into my car immediately.”
Tang Lan’s words were like the cold wind in the dead of winter. It was a notification rather than a negotiation. After she finished speaking, she hung up the phone decisively before Tang Ying could reply, like the executioner’s knife falling.
Tang Ying had no choice but to compromise.
Five minutes later, Tang Ying got out of the car, opened the back door of her mother Tang Lan’s car, and sat down. At that moment, she received the first slap in her life.
At the moment when the crisp sound rang out in the confined car, a trace of astonishment flashed in the eyes of both mother and daughter. Tang Ying could even smell the jasmine scent of her mother’s expensive hand cream.
For a time, there was no sound in the car, only the mechanical sound of the driver setting the final destination of the navigation to the airport.
Before her cell phone was taken away, Tang Ying was still trying to send a message to Fu Yi Wen, but Tang Lan was sitting next to her, so she could only resort to sending the last message to her friend Gu Wan Jun, and then she completely lost the right to use her cell phone. All the way until the plane landed in Yunjiang City in the evening, Tang Lan returned the phone to her.
After that, she went to the flower shop…
After that, she argued with Fu Yi Wen, and the little chubby girl said that she would consider breaking up with her…
After that, she drove away from SWEET HOME, and the hand holding the steering wheel was hurt by the thorns on the roses, and it hurt all the way…
After that, she didn’t know what happened. A sudden, dazzling light lit up in front of her. At that time, her mind was full of Fu Yi Wen…
After that, she opened her eyes and was in the hospital…
……
“The funeral of an important member of her husband’s family and the anniversary of that little girl’s restaurant, you can’t not know which is more important.”
Tang Lan’s faint voice pulled Tang Ying back to reality:
“In my memory, this is one of the few times you’ve done something without thinking. It seems that this Fu Yi Wen is really not suitable to stay by your side.”
Tang Ying stared at the eyes of the person in front of her: “You’re threatening me.”
“I’m saving you. Do you think those people in the Jiang family are vegetarians?”
“What do you want?”
Hearing this, Tang Lan leaned slightly and gently smoothed the wrinkles on her daughter’s hospital gown:
“It’s very simple, cut off all contact with Fu Yi Wen, and this matter will end here.”
Tang Ying pulled at the corners of her mouth, but there was no smile in her eyes: “What if I say no?”
Tang Lan glanced at her and took out a document from her briefcase. The rustling sound of the paper turning was particularly harsh in the quiet ward:
“This is the sanitary inspection report of that little girl’s restaurant. It’s strange, such a clean restaurant was reported three times in a row.”
Saying that, Tang Lan took out another document:
“Also this, it seems that there is a problem with her loan application. It’s really not easy for young people to start a business now.”
“…”
Even with the medicinal patch, her bruised hand still ached slightly from the act of clenching the sheets.
Tang Ying knew Tang Lan’s methods too well.
Swift and decisive, she did what she said.
But like mother, like daughter. She, Tang Ying, was definitely not willing to be at the mercy of others.
“Tang Lan, I’ll say it one last time, if you dare to touch Fu Yi Wen, I won’t let you go.”
Tang Lan adjusted her glasses, not angry but smiling: “Is that so?”
Tang Ying followed her with a sneer, deliberately lowering her voice: “Director Tang, do you really think that no one knows what you’ve done?”
“…”
As soon as she spoke, the ambitious and aggressive eyes instantly narrowed into an interested arc. Tang Lan looked at her daughter, who was very similar to her in every aspect, and her tone was still relaxed:
“In this circle, how many people are clean? What, are you going to announce the evidence in your hand to the world? Don’t blame me for not reminding you in advance, everything you have now was given to you by me. If I fall, you will have nothing.”
“Yes, that’s right, you’re right, I do love the power in your hands.”
Tang Ying raised her eyebrows and sneered, her tone carrying a bit of determination to burn bridges:
“But if you touch Fu Yi Wen, I don’t mind dying with you. You should know that I mean what I say.”
“…”
Tang Lan was stunned for a moment. It seemed that she had heard some major political news that she had never heard before. A rare and unnatural complex expression appeared on the face of the woman who had been in a high position for a long time without being surprised. After being silent for a long time, she asked:
“Do you really like her?”
“Yes, I like her.”
“Even if the price of liking her may be losing everything you have now, are you willing?”
“This sounds ridiculous, but without her, everything I have is meaningless.”
Without strong indifference, without aggressiveness, without barbed words, when she said this, Tang Lan saw a trace of softness and vulnerability in Tang Ying’s eyes, which were always wrapped in ice.
From childhood to adulthood, this was the first time she had heard such an answer from her daughter.
She heard an answer that money and power were not the only priority.
Tang Lan didn’t speak. Silence spread between the two of them, like an invisible wall.
I don’t know how long the stalemate lasted, Tang Lan stuffed the documents she had taken out earlier back into her bag, picked up her bag and got up to leave.
As Tang Ying had expected, Tang Lan stopped at the door, and what the other party said next completely exceeded her expectations:
“Remember, this car accident was an accident. If reporters deliberately ask about it later, you have to say that it was because you were too tired from attending the Jiang family’s funeral that you didn’t dodge the car in time.”
After saying that, Tang Lan didn’t look back and didn’t mention Fu Yi Wen again.
The sound of the ward door closing was very light, but it fell on Tang Ying’s heart like a boulder sinking into a pool.
Tang Lan gave in.
How could it be.
Was it because she was afraid of the evidence in her hand?
Tang Ying wanted to think so, but recalling the sudden change in Tang Lan’s eyes when she asked “Do you really like her?” that look was different from every look she had ever given her, and it even gave Tang Ying a trace of illusion that shouldn’t have been there.
A trace of their seemingly deep mother-daughter affection.
The palm print on her left face still hadn’t disappeared, and the casts on her right arm and leg were as heavy as shackles. Tang Ying didn’t have time to think about Tang Lan’s problem. Her mind was full of a certain little chubby girl’s face.
In any case, she would never give up Fu Yi Wen.
Absolutely not.
Outside the window, the night was dark, with no stars.
When she came out of the hospital, Jiang Ying Xu followed her out.
“Miss Fu, do you have time to talk?”
Meeting the man’s bottomless gaze, Fu Yi Wen knew that things would have to come to an end.
The place where they talked was set in a high-end restaurant with a very high degree of privacy. After all, people like Jiang Ying Xu would not allow themselves to have any bad scandals.
In the private room.
Jiang Ying Xu unbuttoned his cuffs and took the leather menu that the waiter handed over and casually opened it. Every action had the precision that was unique to soldiers, but it also revealed the calmness of a political and business family.
“What would Miss Fu like to eat?”
“No need.”
Fu Yi Wen put the water glass back on the table, and the glass collided with the marble, making a crisp sound. She looked directly at the other party’s deep eyes: “Just say what you have to say.”
The action of turning the menu paused for a moment. Jiang Ying Xu nodded. After the waiter left, he carefully looked at Fu Yi Wen sitting across from him and said bluntly:
“The clothes, perfume, and jewelry on your body are all in Tang Ying’s favorite style.”
“…”
Hearing this, Fu Yi Wen frowned. From Jiang Ying Xu’s tone, she seemed to be a doll that Tang Ying could play with.
The dazzling bouquet of red roses from before flashed inappropriately in her mind, and Fu Yi Wen’s face was a little cold:
“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.”
Jiang Ying Xu leaned back in his chair, this action made his whole body enveloped in the halo of the chandelier. His left middle finger tapped the table rhythmically, as if silently counting down:
“This is the first time you and I have officially met.”
The man paused and his voice was low and steady: “To be honest, I don’t understand, Tang Ying is already married, why are you still guarding her with all your heart?”
This question was sharp enough. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, Jiang Ying Xu started to turn the wedding ring on his left ring finger when the last word was spoken. The platinum ring drew a cold arc in the light, causing Fu Yi Wen a burst of dizziness, but she was not afraid of the other party at all. On the contrary, she looked directly at the other party’s action of turning the ring and said word by word:
“I don’t understand either, you clearly know that she doesn’t love you, why did you agree to marry her?”
“…”
The air suddenly froze, and the knuckles tapping on the table stopped in the air. Jiang Ying Xu’s pupils contracted slightly, and then he showed a meaningful smile:
“You’re not quite what I thought you would be.”
“But I can answer your question.”
“I don’t know if Tang Ying has told you, the reason why this marriage started was because she took the initiative to choose me. Of course, I can’t shamelessly say that I didn’t get any benefits from it. For families like mine and Tang Ying, marriage is not something that we can decide on our own. I admire her personality. She is my favorite among all the candidates for marriage. This is the reason why I agreed to marry her.”
As Jiang Ying Xu spoke, he continued to tap the table rhythmically with his knuckles:
“You just said that Tang Ying doesn’t love me. Of course, I know that she doesn’t love me, but even if she has no feelings for me and doesn’t like me, even if she marries me because of benefits, these are not important. I only value the result. When faced with making a choice, she will always choose me first. That’s enough.”
“Just like now, I can see that you really want to be with her openly, but she will never get a divorce.”
“Because she won’t give up on me.”
Speaking of this, Jiang Ying Xu suddenly smiled, but the smile was particularly cold in Fu Yi Wen’s eyes:
“Now it’s my turn to ask, Miss Fu, do you really think Tang Ying likes you?”
The man paused, tilted his head slightly, and showed an expression that was close to pity:
“Tang Ying and I are a legal couple, and what role are you playing in this relationship, Miss Fu?”
Jiang Ying Xu smiled and threw out a deadly question. As soon as he spoke, the air conditioner in the private room seemed to suddenly stop working, and the air began to become scorching.
He had thought that after saying these words, the young girl in front of him would cry, make a fuss, get angry, and even possibly go to Tang Ying to complain.
But what the man didn’t expect was that after speaking for a long time, the girl sitting across from him looked surprisingly calm.
Looking at Jiang Ying Xu’s confident expression, Fu Yi Wen suddenly realized that the other party was really good at psychological warfare.
And strangely, this realization made her calm down.
“Before you asked this question, to be honest, I wasn’t sure.”
Fu Yi Wen slowly sat up straight, looked directly at those unfathomable eyes, and her voice was unexpectedly stable:
“But now I can definitely answer you, Tang Ying likes me, even to the point that Mr. Jiang has a sense of crisis, and you have to burn bridges and risk trying to pua me by saying that she doesn’t like me at all. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have lived in peace for five years, until today when I was invited here to talk, right?”
“…”
Her knuckles tapped on the table, making an abrupt sound. Fu Yi Wen clearly saw the man’s Adam’s apple move, and the scar at the collar of his shirt fluctuated slightly with his breathing.
Jiang Ying Xu had not expected that this young girl named Fu Yi Wen would see through his thoughts.
If Tang Ying’s heart and love were the biggest bargaining chips in the conversation between the two people present, then Jiang Ying Xu would have been empty-handed from the beginning.
Jiang Ying Xu’s face sank, and just as she was thinking about how to turn the tables, the next second, Fu Yi Wen suddenly smiled and shook her head, and spoke again:
“But you just said one thing wrong.”
This inexplicable smile made Jiang Ying Xu’s eyebrows wrinkle almost imperceptibly, and there was a crack in his calm and composed voice: “Oh? What did I say wrong?”
Fu Yi Wen turned to look out the window, and the city lights melted the night into her eyes, so thick that it couldn’t be dissolved: “I did want to be with her openly…”
Her voice paused, and Fu Yi Wen turned her head back, and the light in her eyes disappeared in an instant: “But now I don’t want to.”
“You’re right, no matter what, she won’t give up on you, she is your wife, you are a couple, I’ve had enough, being an invisible third party, it’s time to end it.”
“…”
As soon as she spoke, Jiang Ying Xu’s pupils shook, obviously this conversation result was something he didn’t expect.
He clearly knew that Tang Ying liked her, but she wanted to give up now?
After a moment of silence, the man asked tentatively: “Why?”
“Because I’m too tired of loving her, I don’t want to continue like this.”
“Just because of this?” There was a trace of real confusion in his low voice.
Just because of this. What a light sentence.
Fu Yi Wen forced a wry smile. She knew that she couldn’t explain it to people like Jiang Ying Xu, so she didn’t need to say it again.
“I will explain it clearly to Teacher Tang as soon as possible. I wish you a happy marriage.”
After speaking, Fu Yi Wen got up to leave.
“Miss Fu, you are her emergency contact.”
Jiang Ying Xu’s voice sounded again behind her, the man’s tone was ambiguous, and it sounded like he was helping Tang Ying to keep her.
Her palm rested on the brass doorknob, and the cold touch of the metal reminded Fu Yi Wen of Tang Ying’s hands that could never be warmed, and the heart that she had never really been close to.
“I know.”
Fu Yi Wen didn’t turn her head, but her voice had a bit of uncontrollable bitterness and self-deprecation:
“Because in the past five years, no matter what time or what situation, I have always been on call.”
Fu Yi Wen gave an answer that was in line with Jiang Ying Xu’s intentions. She knew that the man’s words were testing her final attitude, and he wanted to take advantage of her discouraged opportunity to completely break any chance that she might have to reconcile with them in the future, even the slightest detail that would threaten the safety of their marriage. The man would not leave a single one.
Whatever, no matter what the other party’s purpose was, she didn’t care.
Everything should end.
