Chapter 51: I Can’t Make It Without You
Shao Chengxi walked up to Shu Lin, kissed his forehead, and smiled, “Guess.”
With that, he went to his meeting, leaving Shu Lin even more confused.
After leaving Shao Chengxi’s office, he saw it was still early, so he went back to see Shu Jingcheng.
Shu Jingcheng was recovering well after the surgery. Now he goes to work at the company every morning and rests at home in the afternoon.
When Shu Lin arrived, he had just finished making dinner.
The father and son hadn’t eaten together in a long time, so they chatted while they ate.
Not seeing Shu Lingxiao again, Shu Lin asked, “Is my sister working overtime a lot lately?”
Shu Jingcheng shook his head helplessly, “Yeah, she won’t be back before eleven o’clock these days. I’m afraid it will be another five days before she can relax a bit.”
Five days?
Another five days?
Could his sister also be involved with the Presidential Palace’s decision-making meetings?
But her position and level aren’t even related to that.
Shu Jingcheng suddenly said in a low voice, “Dad will tell you a little secret.”
Shu Lin quickly leaned in to listen.
It turned out that after the verdicts for the two bombing cases came out, Shu Lingxiao was supposed to be promoted to director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, but for some reason, it was held up.
After that, Vice President Ming Jialuo, who was in charge of justice and supervision, had an accident, and Shu Lingxiao’s promotion could only be put on hold for the time being.
“However, your sister doesn’t seem to be in a hurry at all, saying that it’s all under the control of the Shao family, so I shouldn’t worry. Your sister has been opinionated since she was a child and is very capable, so what do I have to worry about?”
Shu Jingcheng’s words were full of pride.
Shu Lin had always unconditionally admired his sister, and upon hearing this, he said, “That’s right, my sister is the most reassuring when it comes to handling things. I just need not to cause her any trouble.”
Shu Jingcheng rubbed his head and smiled, “My little Lin is so good, how could you cause trouble for your sister? By the way, why haven’t you been coming back these days?”
Shu Lin stammered, “Recently, there’s been a lot going on at school and with the dubbing group…”
Shao Chengxi had repeatedly instructed him not to tell anyone about his rut.
Including Shu Jingcheng and Shu Lingxiao.
He said it was an extremely serious matter.
“Baby, it’s not that I don’t trust Dad and your sister, but if they knew, there would be no benefit, only putting them in danger.”
Shao Chengxi said that his political enemies were trying to obtain information about his rut through various channels, just to take advantage of the opportunity to attack him.
Knowing this secret made them targets for his political enemies.
So, now only Shao Bingheng and Shao Tingrui knew the exact date of Shao Chengxi’s rut besides Shu Lin.
Shu Lin knew the importance of the matter and had kept his mouth shut in front of his dad and sister.
Thinking of the unhappiness in his heart recently, Shu Lin lowered his head and stirred the soup in his bowl, saying somewhat sullenly:
“Dad, sometimes I feel like besides being a US-Class Omega, there’s nothing else about me worth mentioning, unlike my sister…”
“Why would you think that?” Shu Jingcheng put down his chopsticks, “My son has many things worth mentioning. A top student at Imperial University, good-looking, with a nice voice, and good at dubbing, and with a good personality. Just these things alone beat a lot of people.”
Shu Lin forced a smile, “Dad, you’re biased. I’m your son, so you think everything about me and my sister is good.”
Shu Jingcheng scolded, “I’m not biased. I’m just saying what’s fair. Besides, in this life, it’s enough to have one advantage. Don’t be so greedy. Too much is as bad as too little.”
“But the one big advantage I have didn’t come from hard work. It doesn’t seem to have much value…”
Shu Jingcheng’s voice suddenly rose, “Absolutely wrong, silly child. Do you know who the two most famous First Ladies in Imperial history are?”
Shu Lin was stunned, wondering why he suddenly brought this up.
“Of course, I know. It’s Madam Gana and Madam Meicheng.”
Madam Gana was born a commoner. She was plain-looking, but very talented and skilled in handling affairs.
She advised her presidential husband, and with her extraordinary wisdom and ability, she helped her presidential husband thrive in politics, eventually becoming one of the greatest presidents in Imperial history.
Madam Gana was therefore also known as one of the most remarkable First Ladies.
Madam Meicheng took a completely opposite route from Madam Gana.
He was an Omega, and as his name suggested, he had stunning beauty.
Shu Jingcheng seemed to favor this madam more, saying:
“Although Madam Meicheng was called a ‘vase’ by some, his beauty and elegance were highly sought after by the world, and he therefore won countless public support for his husband. He would just stand there quietly, maintaining a slightly raised chin and a smile, and it would allow his husband to obtain the highest approval rating in the election.”
And his husband won re-election and was one of the most accomplished presidents in Imperial history.
Madam Meicheng, with his stunning beauty, was, like Madam Gana, known as one of the most famous First Ladies in Imperial history.
Shu Lin blinked, “Dad, I know all this. I learned it in high school history class.”
Shu Jingcheng dismissed it, saying:
“You’ve learned it, but you didn’t understand what Dad meant. Dad wants to say that people can’t have everything.”
“Take Madam Gana and Madam Meicheng, for example. If Madam Gana had both talent and beauty, or if Madam Meicheng had both beauty and talent, they might not have been recorded in history.”
“No one is perfect. If there were really a perfect person, the world wouldn’t accept them because they’re not down-to-earth.”
“Similarly, in three years, as your marriage relationship with Shao Chengxi becomes public, your US-Class Omega identity will inevitably be exposed. At that time, don’t worry about it. Even if you only rely on this identity, you will have your own place. As for other aspects, don’t force it. Just enjoy yourself.”
“Shu Lin, listen to Dad. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Whether it’s achieved through hard work or innate talent, it’s lucky to have one advantage in life.”
This was something Shu Jingcheng had only recently figured out.
If Shu Lin’s true identity hadn’t been exposed, he wouldn’t have wanted his son to use it to get ahead.
But now, they had no choice.
Since they couldn’t change anything, they should accept it gladly and not dwell on it.
He just wanted his precious son to live a safe and healthy life.
Outside the window, the spring breeze gently blew, mixed with various floral fragrances, refreshing the heart.
The gloom in Shu Lin’s heart seemed to be dispelled a lot by this warm spring breeze.
After dinner, he didn’t dare to stay any longer and quickly returned to his residence at the Ministry of Defense.
It seemed that today’s meeting was very important. Shao Chengxi hadn’t returned even after he got back.
It wasn’t until after nine o’clock that Shao Chengxi came back.
As soon as he entered the door, he grabbed Shu Lin and hugged and kissed him.
After the fervent passion, he still held Shu Lin tightly in his arms, as if he were a treasured possession.
Later, his breathing became more steady, and he kissed the base of Shu Lin’s ear, pleading:
“Baby, I feel very bad. You have to follow me all day tomorrow. Without you, I can’t make it.”
“I’m not lying to you, baby. I really can’t make it without you.”
Shu Lin heard an unspeakable dependence in his words.
And a rare glimpse of his vulnerability.
Shu Lin peeked out of his arms, cupped his face, and looked directly into his eyes.
“Okay, I’ll be with you.”
